a six-month stay at the international space station ended when four astronauts splashed down overnight in the gulf of mexico, courtesy of the spacex capsule "endurance." it landed off the coast of tampa and will be making their way to houston later today after their nearly 24-hour trip home.

the trial involving johnny depp is now on a ten-day scheduled break after an emotional second day on the stand by his ex, amber heard. here's abc's stephanie ramos. [ weeping ] >> i don't want to do this. i don't want to do this. >> reporter: more disturbing testimony in amber heard's second day on the witness stand. the actress sued for $50 million. her ex-husband, johnny depp, claims she defamed him by claiming to be the victim of abuse. >> realizing there was a phone there, and he picked up the phone, and he's screaming, like, at the top of his lungs, screaming, i [ bleep ] hate you. i [ bleep ] hate you. you ruined my [ bleep ] life. and screaming at the top of his lungs. he picks up the phone and starts bashing the phone against the wall, against the wall where i was just being held. and i was that phone all of a sudden. >> reporter: the dramatic testimony in stark contrast to how depp recounted the trip when he testified, claiming the "aqua man" actress extinguished a

cigarette on his face and partially severed his middle finger by throwing a vodka bottle. >> so we went to the emergency room. the doctor asked me what happened, and i lied to him. i said that i had smashed it. >> why would you lie about that? >> i didn't want to get her in trouble. >> reporter: in depp's four days on the stand, he claimed it was heard who abused him. >> it's definitely me after receiving kind of a -- a roundhouse punch from ms. heard. >> reporter: heard continued to paint a picture of a jealous husband, describing the moment they were both on a private plane and an alleged violent argument took place over her filming a romantic scene with actor james franco. >> my back is turned to him, and i feel this boot in my back. no one said anything. no one did anything. it was -- like you could -- you could hear a pin drop on that

plane. you could feel the tension, but no one did anything. i felt so embarrassed that he could kick me to the ground in front of people. and more embarrassing, i didn't know what to do about it. >> reporter: the defense played this audio recording made by heard saying that's depp howling on that plane bound for l.a. before passing out in the bathroom. heard testified that after the "pirates" star hit what she thought was rock bottom, in 2014, she accompanied him to the bahamas to detox from his alleged drug use, calling it hell. >> it was up, down. he'd be mad at me. then he was wanting a hug. >> reporter: explaining she made the audio recordings and took photos of him passed out because she knew otherwise depp wouldn't remember. this recording played days earlier from depp's team. >> you didn't get punched. you got hit. i'm sorry i hit you like this, but i did not punch you. you are such a baby!

we're back now with the horses getting set for tomorrow's 148th running of the kentucky derby. the forecast calls for clouds and a slight chance of rain. now, the favorite is number 10, zandon, but here are some guarantees. there will be plenty of fancy hats and there will be mint juleps. >> ready for it. the tsa at reagan national airport stopped a passenger with 23 weapons in his carry-on bag. they say the virginia man was trying to get through a security checkpoint with nearly two dozen knives, including scalpels, martial arts throwing knives, a switchblade and a dagger. he was also carrying brass knuckles. the weapons were confiscated and he was cited. if you're planning to hit the beaches around tampa bay this weekend, check out this video first. a sheriff's department plane captured what appears to be a major swarm of sharks in tampa bay. the department posted the video with this message. a day in the water is a fun way to beat our florida heat, but it's important to be aware of the dangers below the water as well as above. >> i feel like there's some tom brady joke somewhere in there.

on the west coast, an update about a massive bird infestation in this home in redding, california. hundreds of swallows apparently found their way in through the chimney while people were away. the damage was so extensive, even the cleanup company was stunned. >> when i first walked in, i thought they'd been gone for maybe a week or something. but it only took a day. so, yeah. pretty crazy. >> the family is out of the house for now because all of the furniture had to be thrown out, all the carpets, and even the window blinds. the total bill for the damage, $20,000. the insurance company is so far refusing to pay. >> talk about "fowl" play. >> yeah. talk about -- >> f-o-w-l. >> -- out of luck. wow, i can't even imagine. >> $20,000 of damage. >> i can't even imagine where you begin. and the fact that these poor guys have to clean it up. like this is not in the employee handbook. >> you also have to worry about like diseases and things like that, right? it's not just the cleanup effort. i don't know.
