employerss wt has tried to rease la non w record lows, how the deficut henos are a prob he talked about working on ongoing supply chain issues left over from economies being shut down and then reopened during the pandemic. he talked about his work on ports and he asked congress to crack down on these shipping companies that he says have really hiked prices. on oil, first he blamed russia's invasion on ukraine but he also laid into u.s. oil companies. he said that they haven't been drilling on land they've leased because they've been enjoying these surging high profits. he said they need to drill. of course these companies say they should make it easier, that the white house should be cutting regulation. whit? >> maryalice, thanks. shopping at the supermarket now turning into an increasingly painful experience. abc's deirdre bolton has more on the inflation we're seeing. deidre, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, whit.
you mentioned it, these food prices are a huge component in this inflation factor, it's a big one. grocery prices alone raising by 11.9%, the most since 1979. eggs, milk, meat, these are the biggest culprits. gasoline, all-time high. national average per gallon, $4.98. compared to $3.07 a year ago, a 62% increase from a year ago. rent up more than 26% for a one-bedroom apartment, that's according to rent.com. just from a year ago. the issue is that these are basic costs of living. we're not talk about spending on vacation or anything extra. more worrying experts say may's data points show these higher prices are here to stay. a recent government report shows consumer sentiment is at a record low. for what you can do for your family there are rewards programs at grocery stores, sign up for those, especially the ones you use the most often.

eva, over to you. now to america's newest pastime turned pro, the premier lacrosse league had its inaugural season three years ago and now the co-founder is expanding the sport's reach with a new documentary called "fate of a sport". it premieres at the tribecca film festival. good morning. so glad you're with us. what it's like of taking the game out of the arena and to the big screen? >> it's definitely a bizarre experience, not something we intended on building the league. prior to building the pll we had to capture our own media. when we were building the league in the face of our competitor at the time, major league lacrosse which i played in for ten years, we knew that -- i knew it was going to be swim or drown. so we wanted to record that and we brought on a director and a producer and they took it from there. i don't know much about the fundamentals of film making.
>> also, one of executive producers is the lebron james. what was it like working with him? >> lebron and his team at uninterrupted are special, they built a business around being more than an athlete. in early conversations they said there's no better version of this where athletes had been underwaged, underresourced, undermarketed. they said instead of quitting, let's do it on our own. we want to capture what it would be like for players to start a league of their own. >> did you have to teach them about lacrosse? >> i think lebron and even matt carter knew about it. lacrosse has its deepest history in north america. it's been around for 1,000 years. it's played in 77 countries and that was the opportunity to figure out why doesn't it work at the pro level. let's document it and see what happens four years later. now we're at tribecca premiering something that is raw and the ending is still unwritten.
>> very cool. the premier lacrosse league is going to be on espn. how big of a deal is that for the sport? >> that's huge. our first three seasons we were battling to build something that people were unsure was going to work or not. when you get a partnership with espn, abc and the walt disney company, you're thrown into the global atmosphere of viewership. we're in 170 countries. game tonight on espn2 down in charlotte. i'll be flying there when we're done. they bring this kind of marketing effect to sport like they've done with ufc, f1. the nba, of course, playoff games, nhl. so to be in that limelight is everything. >> being busy a good thing. >> being busy is a good thing, yes. >> congratulations to you. we start right where we left off. unfortunately for victor things don't really work out for him as he thought they would. this season is more about victor exploring who he is and it's about, like, kind of just navigating the world as a gay man now, by himself a little bit, but yeah. >> what are you most proud of with this show after three seasons? >> i think honestly i'm really proud of the impact this show has made.r new ch your art c itzyo like such positive impact be made by one show. it's crazy. >> speaking of that impact, how do you feel at the end of it, how your character developed and how things worked out for the character? and then on the flip side, how are fans going to respond to that? >> obviously this is our last season. i feel like people are going to be really sad to let victor go. i'm sad to let victor go. but i'm very grateful to know,
when we let him go he's in a better place where we left him. as an audience member, you'll be happy to let him go without watching him, if that makes any sense. >> okay, so a lot to look forward. you're also a musician, the last time you were on you sang for us. are you also working on new music as you're acting? >> yeah, i have a new single coming out june 24th. it's called "make me want to dance." a salsa/latin vibe. new stuff coming out soon. going to keep working hard to make everything happen all at once. >> can you give janai singing lessons? i don't know if you've heard her. >> i'm not that bad. >> did you hear her during the commercial break? >> we won't -- >> i'm sure it's great. i'm sure it's great. we all start somewhere. >> so nice of you. >> on a completely different note. you have a scar there on your lip. i ear there's an interesting story behind that. >> yeah.

going with your gut, a deep dive into the gut health trend that's taking over tiktok and here with the dos and don'ts is our registered dietician, maya feller. so good to see you in the flesh. >> it is amazing to see you in the flesh. >> okay, so why is gut health so important? >> okay, so gut health is really important because it informs our whole body health. there's relationship between gut and the brain. this is called the gut/brain access. it can influence mood as well as brain health. now there's all this bacteria living in the gut. when we have an overabundance of bad bacteria, negative health outcomes. generally what i say to my patients is make time and space for rest, movement, include fiber in your diet and de-stressing activities to improve your gut health. >> so what changes could someone see if they are taking good care of their gut? >> right, so what we tend to see is an improvement in metabolic health. in my practice, many of the people come to see me because they're experiencing gas,
bloating, shifts in their digestion. what's really amazing is when we modify their pattern of eating, more fiber, more polephenols, we etty quickly. ctiae anc o.'she numbeone thing bacter. more days than not where you're alcohol-free. you want to be alcohol-free the majority of the time. >> that's fair. let's talk about some of the things to do and get your opinion on some of these trends, starting with the video that has people mixing chia seeds, water and lemon together. we have some here. you couldn't pay me to drink it. >> we don't need whatever this is called, an intestinal shower.
