misconduct talks about coming back home and returning to his old job. abc seven news at 430 starts right now. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. >> we are continuing to turn over every stone, if you will, in our efforts to locate elaine. missing for more than 48 hours now, more than 150 volunteers are desperately looking for a bay area woman who disappeared while hiking with family. good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm dion lim. the search is now in day three and it's expanding well beyond the original area, but there is still no sign of margaret elaine mckinley. she was last seen in the windy hill open space preserve in portola valley. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard is live for us at the base camp for the search, where there is stillthe hope she will be found safe this afternoon. cornell? >> yeah. hi, diane. yes. the

sheriff's department is optimistic that uh- margaret elaine mckinley will indeed be found safe. and we've really seen the search effort intensify today. we have search teams from all over the bay area keeping an eye out for her. >> there were a lot of search people in yellow vests with dogs searching and going through the brush. >> hiker martha angel from palo alto says she wasn't alone on her trek through the windy hill preserve saturday. dozens of search and rescue teams are joining the search effort for 79 year old margaret elaine mckinley, who has dementia. >> as we hit the 48 hour mark that elaine has been missing, we remain very hopeful and focused on locating her. >> gretchen spiker, from the san mateo county sheriff's department, says the search footprint is expanding to include areas west of the preserve beyond skyline boulevard. so far, a 12 mile area has been searched with no sign of mckinley. >> we have more than 150 search

and rescue volunteers here. >> including a mounted horse patrol from san joaquin county. mckinley is described as an experienced hiker. she was wearing a red jacket and black pants when she went missing thursday afternoon during a hike celebrating her partner, kitt durkin's birthday, but mckinley got ahead of the group on lost trail. >> about three and a half miles. elaine just took off like an energizer bunny. i. i cry all the time because i just think about what it would be like for her. >> local hikers say the 1400 acre preserve is expansive. >> but yeah, the trails can get twisty and you can get confused and turn around in some areas. you know, there might be a steep, not a precipice, but there's brush that goes down to the creek. >> the sheriff's department is now asking residents with outdoor security cameras to review footage beginning thursday afternoon for any sign of elaine mckinley, and let the department know what they found. >> both the information of sightings, or lack thereof, is

very helpful as we continue this search, because it can guide us to retrace elaine's steps. >> deputies have been going door to door with this flier for neighbors to report. if they have seen mckinley or not. we were told that she left the area with her friends on that hike with the water bottle, but no cell phone. the search is set to wrap up at sundown and resume tomorrow if need be. of course, fingers crossed that she will be found asap. we're live in portola valley today. cornell. bernard abc seven news. >> it is what we are all hoping. cornell. many thanks. moving to the east bay now. police are investigating a shooting at a downtown oakland restaurant during dinner service. authorities say a 31 year-old woman and a 24 year-old man were hit by bullets at pierre-pierre restaurant just after 8 p.m. last night. the restaurant is located at 13th and franklin on the ground floor of the tribune tower. both victims were taken

to area hospitals and are in stable condition. so far, no word on any suspects. new details on the deadly crash near yellowstone national park that killed seven people and injured eight others. the idaho state patrol says a mercedes passenger van was carrying 12 chinese tourists and an italian citizen when it crashed thursday night into a pickup truck on u.s. highway 20. the chinese consulate general in san francisco confirms five of the people killed are chinese citizens. the italian tourist and the pickup truck driver also died. police are still investigating the cause of this accident. in san francisco, firefighters acted quickly to contain an apartment fire before it could spread. this happened at about ten this morning on folsom between 23rd and 24th streets in the mission. the fire was contained to one room, but two people needed to be checked out. investigators are now looking into what started it.

the former mayor forced to resign because of sexual misconduct allegations, says he plans to move back to the bay area and may possibly even run for his old office. dominic foppoli was the mayor of windsor. he is facing several civil lawsuits accusing him of sexual misconduct. he has been living in italy, but in an email to abc seven news, he says in part my focus for this year is starting a family, fully moving back to windsor and winning decisively and completely in civil court. he is also critical of the current state of windsor, saying if the town continues to fall down this terrible path with the support of my family, i will seriously consider accepting a call to run next year. foppoli is accused of misconduct by at least seven women but has not been charged with a crime. he told abc seven the encounters were consensual. foppoli resigned back in 2021, one day after president trump said he wanted to rename

veterans day. the white house is now backtracking. they now say victory day for world war one will be an additional proclamation, and not a replacement of the holiday that honors all of our nation's veterans. the trump administration is planning a massive military celebration through the streets of washington to mark the 250th anniversary of the u.s. army on june 14th. that is also president trump's birthday. the cost of the parade remains unclear, but it comes as the president proposes $163 billion in cuts to domestic spending is $1.7 trillion. budget proposal for next year slashes half the cdc budget from 9 billion to $4 billion. >> we believe it's necessary to reform the cdc to narrow its focus to actually go after infectious disease. >> energy programs are also being gutted as well. a chimney is installed in the sistine chapel as the world awaits to

apple is now in place and when white smoke flows from it, it will signal to the world that a new pope has been chosen. abc news reporter ines de la cuetara has a look now at the new images from rome. tonight, a stunning look inside the sistine chapel, where the college of cardinals will choose the next pope. the first official images of the preparations for the papal conclave. the vatican says nearly all of the cardinals who will vote have arrived, holding near-daily meetings called general congregations as they prepare for the conclave set to begin wednesday. the cardinals making speeches, getting to know each other and discussing what they want in the next pope. 133 voting cardinals are expected to take part in the conclave. 108 of them were appointed by pope francis. ten of them are american. they will sequester inside the sistine chapel, swearing an oath of secrecy. voting up to four times a day until they come to a two thirds majority. i spoke with czech born canadian cardinal michael czerny, one of the voting cardinals. >> we're looking for a person who can best lead the church in

american pope. ines de la cuetara, abc news, vatican city. a new breast cancer memorial is now open in san francisco. the recreation and park department held a ribbon cutting ceremony today for the bay area young survivors breast cancer memorial garden in golden gate park. it's near arguello and conservatory drive. the memorial is dedicated to lives lost from breast cancer. the american cancer society estimates more than 42,000 women will die from breast cancer this year. well, with the federal real id deadline just four days away, some california dmv offices held rare saturday hours today. the oakland office on claremont avenue was one of three in the area opened by appointment only. over the past several weeks, there have been long lines at dmv offices, with some people waiting hours for a real id. starting may 7th, travelers will need either a real id or another verified form of id, like a

after completing the annual sf stair challenge, the nonprofit walk sf posted these videos on x of today's event. this year's course was a five mile route connecting 36 stairways in the bernal heights neighborhood. it featured the tompkins stairway garden, the esmeralda street slides, and bradford street, the city's steepest street. >> just finish the stair challenge. i've done this event three years in a row. i look forward to this every year. it's my absolute favorite thing and i cannot wait for you. number four. >> it took most participants about three hours to complete the route. looks like fun. next year's sf stair challenge is already planned for may 2nd of 2026. well, check this out. san francisco's mission district is
