tracking the weekend temperatures. >> sonoma county pride celebrating 40 years this weekend. and today's extreme heat didn't seem to keep anybody away. i'm cornell bernard. that story coming up always live. >> abc seven news starts right now. >> we start with a live look in santa cruz on this beautiful saturday evening. sure. is there lots of people are flocking to the beach today to cool off during this heat. looks so nice. good evening to you and thank you for joining us. i'm karina nova. let's get right to abc seven weather anchor spencer christian, who's tracking this heat. and in some place that's not that comfortable, where you want to spend all day, like the beach there. >> you're right about that, karina. this is the second consecutive day of high temperatures at or near 100 degrees in the hottest inland areas. and as a result of this heat spike, we have a heat advisory that is still in effect until 8:00 tonight for parts of the bay area, including the north bay interior mountains, the east bay interior valleys, and

the santa clara valley. a high temperatures did hit 101 or 2 locations around the bay area today. we had many upper 90s, and under this kind of unusual heat, there's the risk of heat related illness from overexposure, and this advisory is in effect for solano county until 11:00 tonight. now, the good news is that big a big cooldown is coming our way. we're going to feel it tomorrow by about 15 degrees or so. but even going into early next week, monday, tuesday and wednesday, as you can see, temperatures are going to be in a much more comfortable and uh-, well, more seasonal range. i'll have the full accuweather seven day forecast coming up a little bit later. >> all right spencer thank you. in the north bay, hot weather didn't impact the crowds for pride month's first bay area event of the year. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard has more from the 40th sonoma pride parade and festival in santa rosa. >> love myself and. >> pride filling the streets of downtown santa rosa in a big way

started flaring. they say cities including richmond, san pablo, pinole and hercules, as well as solano county, could see smoke. you're asking to. you're asked to stay inside with windows and doors closed when possible. the bay area air district is monitoring and investigating the flaring. now to a live look at sfo, where just a few hours ago, a flight was diverted because of a mechanical issue. the united airlines plane was heading from san francisco to beijing. united airlines says the plane had to release fuel to avoid landing overweight. it's unclear how many passengers were on the plane or what kind of mechanical issue it was. this comes as the faa investigates a close call between two commercial jets that were taking off at sfo earlier this month in the south bay. the palo alto fire department is investigating the cause of a huge fire that destroyed a house. take a look at this video. firefighters battled flames that engulfed a truck, a garage and a home on stockton place just after nine this

morning. a neighbor says he saw smoke and smelled gasoline on the driveway before the flames quickly spread. >> all of a sudden, i heard explosions. and then i looked down the street and next thing you know, there's flames shooting out of the black smoke and everything. >> and palo alto says no one was inside the home. but the homeowner fears up to 12 animals died in the fire, including several kittens at the home as part of a fostering program, palo alto police are investigating a disturbing house burglary. detectives say the residents were awake and inside their home on carmel drive at about 9:00 last night when they heard people talking in the hallway. authorities say the door to the man's room opened and he saw a male suspect wearing a face mask. when the suspect saw the resident, he ran outside the house. another burglar with a flashlight also ran outside and they took off in a sedan. investigators say the intruders broke into the home by smashing a rear

sliding glass door. nothing is known to have been taken in san rafael. we're working to learn more about an apartment fire this afternoon. it broke out on woodland avenue near irwin street. crews say they had it under control by about 1:00. they are investigating the cause. turning to the trump administration now, after president trump announced new tariffs on steel imports. this comes amid the president's trade war that already has consumers pulling back on spending amid the uncertainty. abc news reporter selina wang has more. >> president trump says he's doubling the tariffs imposed on steel imports coming into the united states. posting on social media the increase is set to go into effect on june 4th. >> we're going to bring it from 25% to 50%. the tariffs on steel into the united states of america, which will even further secure the steel industry in the united states. >> the announcement, coming

during a rally in pittsburgh on friday as the president touted the sale of u.s. steel to japan's nippon steel, saying the company will continue to be controlled by the united states. but he offered no details on how ownership would be structured. >> we're here today to celebrate a blockbuster agreement that will ensure this storied american company stays an american company. >> the president says he rejected previous offers from nippon before realizing they wanted to invest in america. >> and they're putting up, you know, billions of dollars, and they're going to do this plant and other plants, and it's great, and you're going to have control. >> i think, for the most part, majority the steelworkers are for this bill. i can't speak for everyone. the last thing we want to see is uh- this deal, not go through. and then possibly the steel industry leaving the mon valley. >> the president's increased tariffs on steel imports come as his trade war stirs up economic uncertainty. several large retailers, including walmart, macy's and ford have already said some price hikes are

o'brien embarked on its 45th annual memorial cruise from pier 35, in fisherman's wharf. the operational world war ii liberty ship sailed through the san francisco bay, passing landmarks such as the golden gate bridge and alcatraz island. one of the ship's volunteers says the memorial cruise honors the legacy of the merchant mariners and those who served in the armed forces. though o'brien launched in 1943 and took part in the d-day invasion in 1944. in golden gate park this morning, a fundraiser to support research into cures for blinding retinal diseases. the vision walk five-k was hosted by abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez. this is the 20th year of the walk that takes place in dozens of cities across the country. this year, the bay area walk raised more than $200,000 to fund sight saving research, taking over union street. thousands of people are enjoying one of the biggest festivals in san francisco, and we're

the heat. fans were set on high to try to keep players cool in the dugouts, and people in the stands stayed undercover and out of the hot sun. shout out to all the parents supportive parents out there that battle the heat. of course you got to support the kids. >> of course you do their locations out there. that got up to over 100 degrees today. so. >> so 95 i guess wasn't that bad. >> not so bad. let's take a look at our weather here in the bay area right now, karina. and we still have a heat advisory in effect for much of the bay area until 8:00 tonight. and for solano county until 11:00 tonight. now we're talking about the north bay interior mountains, the east bay interior valleys, and the santa clara valley. high temperatures today did hit upper 90s to 100 and 101 in some inland locations. but once this, once the heat starts to retreat, we'll of course, that heat advisory will be canceled. right now we're looking at gentle breezes moving, blowing onshore 14, 15, 16 mile per hour winds for the most part, not much of a cooling effect, except that the 24 hour temperature change shows a 3 to 5 degree cool

down in most bay area locations from this time yesterday, so that's significant. on we go, under sunny skies, looking out over san francisco where it's 64 degrees right now. oakland 67. we have 80 in hayward, mid to upper 80s at san jose and redwood city, 59 at half moon bay. nice clear view from mount tam looking down into the bay. no evidence of a marine layer building yet. we'll have some coastal clouds later though. 87 right now in santa rosa. that's still pretty warm. mid 70s at petaluma and napa. we've got low to mid 90s at fairfield, concord and livermore. all of these locations were in the upper 90s to near 100 earlier in the afternoon. these are the forecast headlines. big changes come our way tomorrow. it will be breezy and much cooler by as much as 15 degrees or more in some locations early next week. mostly sunny, mild days ahead and at the end of the week, the warming trend a warming trend will develop. just a minor one though. nothing like what we had the last couple of days. here's our forecast animation for this evening. and tonight we'll see a few clouds moving over and a few patches of drizzle along the coastline. maybe 1 or 2 of those patches of drizzle

will move onshore, but won't amount to very much. and we'll have a mainly sunny day tomorrow as we start the month of june. overnight, low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper 50s, so it's going to be pretty mild overnight as the daytime heating will not retreat very quickly. highs tomorrow though much lower than today. we're talking upper 50s on the coast, 64 here in san francisco, around the bay shoreline, upper 60s to low 70s inland areas that were in the upper 90s today, low 80s tomorrow. and as we look ahead at the maximum temperature trend, it will be relatively cool to mild on monday and tuesday and wednesday. so we've got a string of very mild seasonal days coming our way with no extreme heat at all. so june 1st tomorrow starts on a cooler note than may 31st and going into the middle of the week, we're talking about highs in the mid 80s inland, upper 70s around the bay shoreline, and then at the end of the week, going into next weekend, we'll see just some minor warming, but no heat wave on the way. >> all right. thank you very much spencer. baseball now
