tensions on the streets of los angeles, protests over immigration raids turning aggressive. president trump deploying the national guard. governor newsom and la's mayor blaming his actions for intensifying tensions. >> are you prepared to invoke the insurrection act? >> uh. it depends on whether or not there's an insurrection. no, no. but you have violent people, and we're not going to let them get away with it. >> the president threatening more action against protesters overnight, calling for more national guard deployment, demanding mass arrests. >> and this is from san francisco. solidarity protests turning chaotic. dozens arrested last night after police cars and waymo vehicles were vandalized, storefronts damaged and covered in graffiti. the message from the mayor and police leadership this morning, as more protests are planned across the bay area in the days ahead. good morning. it is monday, june 9th.

>> we're going to start with a check of the traffic with sue. >> yeah, unfortunately, we've got an accident coming off of the bay bridge san francisco side of things. it's westbound 80 there. caltrans camera shows the right lane blocked and a couple of emergency crews on the scene. what happened was a car ran out of gas coming off of the bridge. stopped in the slow lane. another car, as you can see, that white car with the crumpled hood bashed right into the back of it. so now we've got this in the clearing phases. again, it's coming off of the bay bridge. san francisco side. right lanes are currently blocked with this accident. otherwise we've got fog on the golden gate bridge, and we'll have dru to talk a little bit more about that. >> hey there. sue. yeah, we have a good deal of drizzle out there. here's a live view from our exploratorium camera. a low deck of cloud cover. it's pretty cloudy and a lot of cities right now. not only drizzle being reported across san francisco, napa also indicating some drizzle. so this morning underneath our marine layer will likely need your windshield wipers for a few minutes or so as this marine layer is overhead for the next couple of hours

underneath the cloud cover. right now, we're mainly starting out with temperatures in the low and mid 50s. good morning danville 55 degrees. we're at 52 in sonoma, the city coming in at 53 degrees with that drizzle. now future weather is going to show you that marine layer is very slow to break down this morning. by 8:39 a.m. little change in our cloud cover. mainly overcast skies across the region as you head closer to 11 a.m, our inland communities the north bay, the south bay getting sunshine. still quite cloudy across the city and in parts of the east bay. so today it's one of those days where fighting the cloud cover for much of the morning. here's a look at daytime highs 71 in oakland today, 66 in the city with a bit of a breeze. near 80 in san jose later on today guys. >> drew. thank you. demonstrations in la exploded over the weekend in response to immigration authorities detaining more than 100 immigrants in the city. the eruption of protests boiling over after president trump deployed national guard troops bypassing california governor

gavin newsom, l.a. police are reporting a total of 56 people were arrested over the weekend. ten of those were from the downtown demonstrations last night. one person for throwing a molotov cocktail, another forg a ramming officer, an officer with a motorcycle. another 17 yesterday were arrested by chp for blocking a freeway, and 29 people were arrested saturday for not dispersing. so here's what we know right now. the chief says officers are under attack and at least three have suffered minor injuries. hundreds of national guard troops are in la. more are on the way. the president called for 2000 to be deployed. the white house has reportedly put about 500 marines on standby. they would serve as reinforcements and one of the strongest images of the day. multiple cars set on fire. at least five of them waymo's. this is the first time the president has taken control of the state's national guard without approval in 60 years. the la police chief says most of the protests in the city have been peaceful. peaceful. but the violence, he

says, is disgusting. >> we are overwhelmed. we had uh- individuals out there shooting commercial grade fireworks at our officers that can kill you. >> lapd reporting businesses downtown are being looted and fires were continuing to break out overnight. >> the scene unfolding last night on those downtown la streets. reporter gabe santos with our sister station kabc in la was inside chopper seven, monitoring the activity from. >> as i look out the windshield of air seven, i see a lot. i just want to point out i see a lot of pee still on the road, so it's notee like people are avoiding downtown. i think there's a looky loo factor to it all where you just have a lot of people coming downtown to just kind of see what's going on. and you could see uh- there. this looks like hill street in ord uh- somebody, you know, launching fireworks up into the air right in front of that. i believe that's a lapd skirmish line a little bit south of that location, and lapd just has to manage their resources. they

have to decide, you know, we're not going to chase after each individual fireworks thrower or fire starter. we have to kind of methodically approach this and only move forward if the situation calls for it. >> the lapd declared unlawful assembly in downtown la overnight and they announced everyone must leave. president trump, commenting on the protests overnight with posts on truth social, he wrote the national guard should be brought in right now and those wearing face masks should be arrested, he said. chief jim mcdonnell is considering bringing in the troops, trump urging the chief to do so, writing don't let these thugs get away with this. trump was referring to mcdonald's press conference when he said, this thing has gotten out of control and would now have to make a reassessment about requesting the national guard. >> governor newsom says california intends to sue president trump after protests escalated in l.a. the governor requesting the trump administration rescind their, quote, unlawful deployment of

troops in los angeles county and return them to newsom's command. the governor posted on x it says, quote, we didn't have a problem until trump got involved. this is a serious breach of state sovereignty, inflaming tensions while pulling resources from where they'd actually be needed. the lieutenant governor, eleni kounalakis, was on cnn last night where she said the conflict was generated by donald trump for, quote, political theater. >> it's deeply concerning tt he is attempting to rile people up in this way. and the governor, i think you reported already has asked him to return control of the national guard back to him. and i believe that we are likely going to see a lawsuit. >> in fact, that lawsuit is expected to be filed today by the governor. the last time the national guard was activated without a governor's permission was in 1965. that's when lbj sent troops to a civil rights march in alabama. >> across the bay area. today, we are expecting to e

more protests in solidarity with the people in los angeles. over the weekend, protesters made their voices heard in san francisco. abc seven news reporter zach fuentes is tracking that part of the story. and, zach, these were mostly peaceful until last night when some people began vandalizing downtown. >> yeah, that's right. things took a turn around seven yesterday and late last night. police. police issued a night. statement saying approximately 60 people were arrested after officers were injured and a lot of property damage. now, hundreds of protesters gathered outside the ice field office on sansom street. they were carrying signs and chanting against the federal immigration enforcement and deployment of national guard troops to la. >> watching what's going on in la. and we're like, no, not not in la. we're in solidarity with los angeles to. >> here to protest the outrageous attacks on undocumented immigrants. >> police say a lot of people did leave once unlawful assembly was declared, but some people in the crowds got violent around 7:00, vandalizing buildings and

attacking officers. two officers were injured. one of them was taken to the hospital, and things spread over to market and kearny streets, where police say some protesters vandalized buildings and a police patrol vehicle. a gun was found at the scene and of the 60 that were arrested, some were juveniles. the embarcadero bart station was also temporarily shut down. mayor daniel lurie said some muni vehicles were vandalized and windows of local businesses were broken. in a statement, he said in part, everyone in this country has a right to make their voice heard peacefully and local law enforcement will always protect that right and the rights of everyone in our city to be safe. but we will never tolerate violent and destructive behavior, and local law enforcement will always protect that right and the rights of everyone in our city to be safe. but we will never tolerate violent and destructive behavior. police have not released the names of those arrested yet. right now, live in the newsroom. zach fuentes, abc seven news. >> thank you, zach bay area leaders are denouncing the trump administration's actions toward the la prote.

>> 5-10 this morning. we're looking at your forecast today and it's a nice mild afternoon. but we do have a fair amount of cloud cover early on this morning. so we'll go from overcast skies to a bright but breezy afternoon. daytime highs at or just a few degrees above average for this time of the year. here's live doppler seven ag with satellite. yesterday afternoon, we had a fair amount of thunderstorms bubbling up around tahoe. will likely see a repeat of that later on today, as we have a little bit of instability in the atmosphere there locally. we have our cloudy skies right now. onshore flow will pick up this afternoon, that breeze gusting about 2020 five miles per hour later on today. so here's a cloudy view from our exploratorium camera. sunrise today is at 547 this morning, and we do begin with that june gloom. overhead drizzle certainly along the coast, and some spotty drizzle being reported in the north bay right now. we'll have decreasing clouds throughout the morning. it's a bright afternoon. it is breezy in those daytime highs just a few degrees above average for this time of the year.

a search in the andes mountains in peru for an american hiker who has gone missing. edson bandeira began his hike may 29th with two other hikers hoping to summit a mountain known for its nearly perfect pyramid shaped peak. but the group hasn't been heard from for more than a week.

rescue crews have been using drones and helicopters to search. so far, there are no signs of the group, but there are signs of an avalanche. bandeira's family is worried. >> i was very hopeful. now i don't know. i don't want to lose my hopes, but it's also. it's just hard. it's been a very rough couple of days. >> he's an experienced hiker and has been working to be a certified, to be certified as a high mountain guide. >> if you don't want this to be you. san francisco fire officials have a reminder stay on the trails when you're enjoying the outdoors. >> multiple people had to be rescued over the past two weekends after falling down cliffs around land's end. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard has more on how to stay safe. >> it's beautiful and it's also kind of hazardous. >> yes. yeah, it is definitely important to stay on the trails. >> good advice from hiker angelica mcdaniel, who's showing her friend brandon land's end trail for the first time, where the views are breathtaking. >> i've never been. i'm following her lead, so it's good

to hear that she has safety in mind. but yeah, absolutely. yeah. it's important for people to stay on the trail. >> but not everyone does. on saturday, the san francisco fire department says it rescued two tourists after they accidentally dropped their phone 80ft down a cliff near mile rock beach while snapping a picture, then tried to get the phone back. >> they thought to themselves they were athletic enough to go down and retrieve it. when they turn around and saw how steep the cliff face was, they realized they weren't going to be able to climb back up. that's when their friend called 911. >> lieutenant mariano elias helped bring the two to safety. they weren't hurt. and last weekend, there were two separate cliff rescues at battery crosby trail. one person was hurt. the incidents prompting a familiar warning to respect these posted signs. >> we want people to come visit san francisco residents who live here. enjoy the beautiful views of the bay, the bridge, but stay on trail. that is the most important thing they need to do. >> in 2021. the department says there were 38 cliff rescues in san francisco, 31 and 20

also the largest, with more than 100,000 people in attendance. the la pride parade started as a protest in 1970, and this weekend's protests over immigration raids in la were top of mind. organizers say they worked with lapd to ensure undocumented immigrants in mixed status families felt safe. >> we are very confident that our team will be safe, our community will be safe, and that pride will continue and that pride will march on. >> it's important that we're out here every year saying who we are. we're not going anywhere. >> organizers say this year's theme was pride marches on to reflect a culture that refuses to be silenced. >> it was once a symbol of oppression. now it's been reclaimed as an act of community and resilience. the pink triangle is back on twin peaks. more than 700 volunteers gathered saturday to install the triangle. it's a uniquely san francisco tradition, organizers say. we are the only city in the world with a project like this. it's a title we've held on to for 30 years. during the holocaust, the symbol was sewn

since may 31st. people spotted the striped escapee trotting through neighborhoods and galloping along the interstate. yesterday, ed was seen grazing on grass in a nearby field. crews had to airlift him away. >> i watched the neighbors children and they were going wild. they were running, they were fenced in, but otherwise they would have been probably catching the zebra. >> so the sheriff's office says ed is doing well and has been reunited with his caretakers. no word yet on how he managed to escape in the first place. it is legal to have a zebra as a pet in tennessee. a video with no. >> okay, i'm going to pretend like none of that happened. broadway is back, and there's no better cue to the industry's health than a fantastic tony awards. and it was that the 79th ceremony capped off a record grossing season for post-pandemic broadway. >> abc south.

cloud cover out there. you're looking live from our sfo camera right now. we're getting many reports of drizzle along the coast and across the city this morning. current conditions right now will begin with those temperatures mainly in the mid 50s. as we start your monday, here's a look at future weather. we have a pretty deep marine layer this morning, meaning clouds will be really slow to break down. so even by 8:39 a.m. it is still fairly cloudy out there. as we get closer to noon, we'll see those clouds break down inland first, even around the bay shoreline. at that hour we're still fighting a lot of fog. but into the afternoon we'll keep the coast and much of the city pretty cloudy away from those areas. we do get a lot of sunshine throughout the day. it is breezy too, with winds gusting about 20 to 25mph throughout the afternoon. so a look at your daytime highs today. we will get temperatures at or just a few degrees above average for this time of the year. your sunrise today coming at 547 this morning. now the latest on the pollen index. this coming in this morning. we do have grass pollen on the rise again. it was low over the weekend. now we're back to medium levels

matching tree pollen as well. let's check in with sue. see how we do on the roads this morning. >> good morning drew. and you will find fog and low clouds on the golden gate bridge. windshield wipers for sure. there is a fog advisory in effect here. we look at the bay bridge. no metering lights yet. we are checking for you. they should be on at any time and we'll of course check back for you. it's about a 40 minute drive through the 80 corridor, beginning at highway four and hercules, all the way to and through the toll plaza on the san francisco side of the bay bridge. an earlier accident has been cleared. sun is coming up here with some fog and lowg up clouds at the san mateo bridge, and you can see a few brake lights on the causeway and up towards the high rise. it's about a 14 minute drive from 880 across the span. san mateo bridge over towards foster city. so overall, we have our early morning commuters out of the central valley for about a 45 minute ride now into dublin pleasanton west on 580. and we do have winds on the benicia bridge. so heads up with some

how things escalated. zach. >> yeah. here locally, we know that around 60 people were arrested, according to sfpd. they say those arrests were made after officers were injured and property damage. now, it all started yesterday evening when hundreds of protesters gathered outside the ice field office on sansom street. they were carrying signs and chanting against the federal immigration enforcement and deployment of national guard troops to la. >> organizing, organizing. we need a united front of everybody who wants to oppose the scapegoating of immigrants. >> and the whole thing about going after immigrants and people who are undocumented, the most vulnerable are our populations. that is like, so wrong. >> now, eventually, police say a lot of people left once unlawful assembly was declared. but some people in the crowds got violent around 7 p.m. they say vandalizing buildings and attacking officers. at least two officers were injured. one of them was taken to the hospital. things spread over to market and kearny streets, where police say some protesters vandalized buildings and a police patrol vehicle. a gun was found at the scene, and the embarcadero bart

cared for by emergency emt and given any kind of treatment that they needed for what seemed to be a lot of, you know, as you would expect, bumps and bruises and those types of things. >> the ntsb and faa are investigating the crash. >> a scooters lithium ion battery is suspected of sparking a fire in san francisco that critically burned two people. this happened yesterday morning inside an apartment building on jones street and golden gate avenue. firefighters say the burning scooter was blocking an exit. crews were able to rescue two people from the unit. >> local salmon anglers have waited two years for this past weekend. ocean salmon season officially got underway. a viewer shared some video showing some of the catches yesterday in sausalito. groups say they had a pretty good outing, bringing in more than 30 fish. each angler was allowed only two fish per day, and the state has capped that total at 7000. we are waiting to learn if the state hit that number. if it hasn't, fishing will be allowed again on

july 5th and sixth. a new phase in the cleanup effort after december's wharf collapse in santa cruz. the city and coast guard have started the process of removing heavy equipment and debris that fell into the ocean. work has been delayed because crews needed calm sea conditions. the wharf and its businesses will stay open during the process. visitors are asked to stay clear of the work zone. >> i do think it's a little weird that they didn't clean it up earlier. i mean, with all the stuff that's still in the ocean from the collapse, that's completely dangerous for sea life, for boaters like all those people. >> work to restore the wharf should start in october. city officials hope to finish by early next year. >> some scary moments at oracle park before yesterday's giants braves game. a grease fire ignited a portable concession stand. crews quickly contained the fire and the game went on as planned. the giants celebrated girls day at oracle park. that's to honor women and girls in sports. and yesterday's game had

because it is expansive and it is creating some drizzle along the coast this morning. current temperatures right now we're holding in the mid 50s. that sun is up here. but it's going to take some time that we see that cloud cover this morning. the fog is going to stick with us over the next several hours heading into the afternoon. once we get that fog to pull back to the coastline, temperatures will be at or just slightly above average for this time of the year and really for the week ahead. we're not going to stray too far from these numbers. it's a real steady pattern of morning clouds, afternoon sunshine, and daytime highs pretty close to where we should be for this time of the year. so wl look at the morning forecast. you can see we're pretty cloudy the next several hours. it's not until we approach about 11 a.m, even close to noon, that we get that sunshine really breaking through the cloud cover, so just expect gray conditions mainly for the first half of your day. winds right now, for the most part they are pretty light, but there are a few areas, especially through the delta, that the winds are breezy. they will ramp up again this afternoon. the

18 year olds on tiktok say some tween skincare videos are pushing potentially dangerous chemicals. here's abc news reporter andrew dymburt. >> in this morning's gma first look, a warning for parents after a new investigation by northwestern university researchers finding tween skincare routines may be causing more harm to skin and parents bank accounts than good. researchers from northwestern university creating tiktok accounts, pretending to be 13 year olds and reviewing 100 skincare videos on tiktok from girls as young as seven. among the top 25 most viewed videos. investigators finding an average of 11 active ingredients that could irritate adolescent skin, including citric acid, salicylic acid and glycolic acid.
