through the city right now. so here's a look at current sky conditions. a real mixed bag of what's going on. cloudy along the coast. napa reporting some drizzle as well, but you head inland and concord right now reporting sunny skies. so temperatures currently underneath the cloud cover. we're holding in the 50s for much of the morning. so here's a look at future weather. you'll notice at 830 we still have expansive cloud cover. it's one of those mornings where our marine layer is really stubborn. it's very slow to pull back to the coastline. even by 11 a.m, we're still looking at clouds around the bay shoreline. heading into the afternoon, we'll keep the coast cloudy inland. we'll find lots of sunshine. daytime highs at or just a few degrees above average for this time of the year. so we'll have our june gloom this morning, giving way to sunnier skies this afternoon. it will get breezy later on today. onshore flow will strengthen. will gust to about 20 to 30mph later on today. let's check in with sue. let's see. we're on the roads this morning. >> thanks, drew. we do have fog. a fog advisory on the golden

gate bridge. you will need windshield wipers coming across the waldo grade as well. and wind on the altamont pass, checking the east shore freeway eight, i should say 880, which is the nimitz freeway past the oakland coliseum. it's moving at a really good clip. no delays here. so if your destination this morning is the oakland airport, certainly nothing to get in your way here. taking a look at some misty sky above the east shore freeway and about a 42 minute drive, now 80 westbound from hercules through rodeo and el sobrante on into berkeley and the macarthur maze. metering lights were turned on at 543 this morning. so that's awaiting you. and very busy stretch of roadway. always. here you can see our early morning commuters out of the central valley and an accident, this one in los gatos. it is south 17, blocking the slow lane just past highway nine, causing a bit of a delay. >> thank you sue. so far this morning, calm on the streets of downtown los angeles after protests exploded over the

weekend in response to immigration raids. the demonstrations erupting after more than 100 immigrants were arrested in the city. then tensions ratcheted up when president trump deployed national guard troops, bypassing governor gavin newsom. l.a. police are reporting a total of 56 people were arrested over the weekend. ten of those were from the downtown demonstrations last night. one person arrested for throwing a molotov cocktail, another for ramming officers with a motorcycle. another 17 yesterday were arrested by chp for blocking a freeway, and 29 people were arrested saturday for not dispersing. so here's the latest on this developing story. the chief says officers are under attack and at least three have suffered minor injuries. hundreds of national guard troops are in la. more are on the way. the president called for 2000 to be deployed. the white house has reportedly put about 500 marines on standby. they would serve as reinforcements. one of the strongest images of the day. multiple cars set on fire. at least five of them waymo's. this

is the first time a president has taken control of a state's national guard without approval in 60 years. la's police chief says most of the protests in the city have been peaceful. but the violence he is seeing, he calls disgusting. >> we are overwhelmed. we had uh- individuals out there shooting commercial grade fireworks at our officers that can kill you. >> reporting businesses downtown are being looted and fires were continuing to break out overnight. >> the scene unfolding last night on those downtown la streets. reporter gabe santos, with our sister station at kabc in la, was inside chopper seven monitoring the activity from above. >> as i look out the windshield of air seven, i see a lot. i just want to point out i see a lot of people still on the road, so it's not like people are avoiding downtown. i think there's a looky loo factor to it all where you just have a lot of people coming downtown to just kind of see what's going on. and you could see uh- there. this

looks like hill street and ord uh- somebody, you know, launching fireworks up into the air right in front of that. i believe that's a lapd skirmish line a little bit south of that location, and lapd just has to manage their resources. they have to decide, you know, we're not going to chase after each individual fireworks thrower or fire starter. we have to kind of methodically approach this and only move forward if the situation calls for it. >> the lapd declared unlawful assembly in downtown la overnight. they announced everyone must leave. president trump, commenting on the protests with posts on truth social, he wrote the national guard should be brought in right now and those wearing face masks should be arrested, he said. chief jim mcdonnell is considering bringing in the troops, trump urging the chief to do so, writing don't let these thugs get away with this. trump was referring to mcdonald's press conference when he said, this thing has gotten out of control and would now

have to make a reassessment about requesting the national guard. oakland native and former vice president kamala harris slammed the trump administration's move to deploy the national guard in la, saying in part, quote, deploying the national guard is a dangerous escalation. it is part of the trump administration's cruel, calculated agenda to spread panic and division. >> governor newsom says california intends to sue president trump today after protests escalated in la. the governor requesting the trump administration rescind their, quote, unlawful deployment of troops in los angeles county and return them to newsom's command. newsom's post on x says, quote, we didn't have a problem until trump got involved. this is a serious breach of state sovereignty and inflaming tensions while pulling resources from where they'd actually be needed. lieutenant governor lenny kounalakis was on cnn last night where she said the conflict was generated by donald trump for political theater. >> it's deeply concerning that

he is attempting to rile people up in this way. and the governor, i think you reported already has asked him to return control of the national guard back to him. and i believe that we are likely going to see a lawsuit. >> that lawsuit is expected to be filed today by the governor. the last time the national guard was activated without a governor's permission was in 1965. that's when lbj sent troops to civil rights. civil rights march in alabama across the bay area. today, we're expecting to see more protests in solidarity with people in la. over the weekend, protesters here made their voices heard in the streets of san francisco. abc seven news reporter zach fuentes tracking that part of the story. zach. these were mostly peaceful until last night when some people began vandalizing downtown. >> yeah. that's right. things took a turn around seven yesterday and late last night, police issued a statement saying approximately 60 people were arrested after officers were injured and there was a lot of property damage. now, hundreds

of protesters gathered outside the ice field office on sansom street. they were carrying signs and chanting against the federal immigration enforcement and also the deployment of national guard troops to la. >> watching what's going on in la. we're like, no, not not in la. we're in solidarity with los angeles to. >> i'm here to protest the outrageous attacks on undocumented immigrants. >> now, police say a lot of people did leave once unlawful assembly was declared. but some people in the crowds got violent around 7 p.m, vandalizing buildings and attacking officers. now, at least two officers were injured and one was taken to the hospital. things spread over to market and kearny streets, where police say some protesters vandalized buildings and a police patrol vehicle. a gun was found at the scene and of the 60 that were arrested, some were juveniles. the embarcadero bart station was also temporarily shut down, and mayor daniel lurie said some muni vehicles were vandalized and windows of local businesses were broken. in a statement, he said in part, everyone in this

>> time now is 614. this morning, an urgent search in the andes mountains in peru. for an american hiker who has gone missing. edson bandera began his hike may 29th with two other hikers hoping to summit a mountain known for its nearly perfect pyramid shaped peak. but the group hasn't been heard from for more than a week. rescue crews have been using drones and

helicopters to search. so far, there are no signs of the group, but there are signs of an avalanche. ventura's family is worried. >> i was very hopeful. now i don't know. i don't want to lose my hopes, but it's also. it's just hard. it's been a very rough couple of days. >> bandera is an experienced hiker and has been working to be certified as a high mountain guide. >> san francisco's fire department is advising people to enjoy the city's scenic views, but do it safely. recently, they've been busy rescuing hikers. they're urging folks to stay on the trails. the past two weekends for hikers have been rescued by crews. two of them happened at the same hiking trail called battery crosby trail. this past week, rescue crews saved two tourists at milly rock beach. the duo went after a phone that dropped 80ft below them. >> they thought to themselves they were athletic enough to go down and retrieve it. when they turn around and saw how steep

the cliff face was, they realized they weren't going to be able to climb back up. that's when their friend called 911. >> the department revived an old psa reminding folks to be safe, especially when you're trying to snap a selfie. >> pride was on full display in southern california this weekend. the 55th annual la pride parade marched through hollywood yesterday, complete with bright, bold and festive floats. organizers say la pride is one of the longest running events in socal history. it's also the largest, with more than 100,000 people in attendance. the la pride parade started as a protest in 1970, and this weekend's protests over immigration raids in la were top of mind. organizers say they worked with lapd to ensure undocumented immigrants and mixed status families felt safe. >> we are very confident that our team will be safe, our community will be safe, and that pride will continue and that pride will march on. >> it's important that we're out here every year saying who we

average. and really for the week ahead, we're not going to stray too far from these numbers. it's a steady pattern of our morning marine layer, afternoon sunshine, a little breezy in the afternoon and temperatures very pleasant for this time of the year. as we take a look at your morning planner, you do notice it's pretty cloudy the next several hours. probably not until lunchtime that many of us are really seeing full sunshine. so it's one of those days with a deep marine layer. takes time to break it down. takes time for to pull back to the coastline. but the afternoon is going to be bright for many of us. winds right now. isolated breezy spots. but overall, the winds will pick up this afternoon. that onshore flow is back and it will repeat tomorrow as well. and really each afternoon this week it will be breezy. so looking at highs today in our microclimates starting in the south bay 70s and 80s for daytime highs 77 in cupertino but 85 in los gatos, 79 in san jose along the peninsula. cloudy for the coast, but brighter and warmer around the bay shoreline. 74 in palo alto, 72 in san mateo. very cloudy this morning

>> a runaway pet, zebra, is finally back home after escaping in tennessee. after more than a week on the loose, crews finally captured ed the zebra. he was causing chaos and confusion in rutherford county since may 31st, people spotted the striped escapee trotting through neighborhoods and galloping along the interstate. so yesterday, ed was seen grazing on grass in a nearby field. crews had to airlift him away. >> i watched the neighbor's children and they were going wild. they were running, they were fenced in, but otherwise they would have been probably catching the zebra. >> the sheriff's office says ed is doing well and has been reunited with his caretakers. no word yet on how he managed to escape in the first place. it is legal to have a zebra as a pet in tennessee. the 79th tony award show capped off a record grossing season for post-pandemic broadway. it was a

guard, making sure that the headquarters is protected. we have seen the neighboring building had some broken glass. so they want to make sure that that's taken care of. and we have already seen this morning as the sun has come up, some people coming out here with signs and they're getting ready to protest. one of the things that we're going to be seeing is some rallies for david huerta, that local labor leader that was arrested friday during a protest downtown. watch this. >> i have a bad shoulder on women. they be beating their wives up. >> huerta, a u.s. citizen and president of the seiu, was arrested friday as hundreds of protesters gathered in downtown la friday afternoon condemning the ice immigration raids that took place at three different locations across la. after being treated for his injuries at the hospital, huerta remained in federal custody through the weekend, with the u.s. attorney saying huerta was arrested for interfering with federal agents. huerta is a nationally

recognized labor leader who has helped raise wages, improved benefits, and expanded job protections for low wage workers. now, those union workers and huerta's family are calling for his immediate release. take a listen. >> people need to understand this is only happening right now to immigrants, to people in this country legally. but pretty soon, any kind of dissent is going to be criminalized. everybody thinks it's happening to somebody else. eventually it's going to come to their doorstep. >> meantime, this was the scene in downtown la just hours ago. air seven caught people looting near sixth and broadway. it happened just before 10:30 p.m. last night. the damage is widespread. several waymo self-driving vehicles were also set on fire. the crowd destroyed property throughout the area, including several police vehicles. overall, the unlawful conflict that took place over the weekend led to nearly 60 arrests. nine officers were also injured, according to police. now, right now, there are hundreds of national guard troops in la. 2000 members were authorized by the president,

with 500 marines on standby, just in case things get worse. now, like you guys all mentioned today, governor newsom did say he plans to sue the trump administration over them bringing the national guard on over here. governor newsom says that he did not allow for that to happen. so again, we're going to be following this development really closely and seeing how things unfold today here in downtown la, reporting live from downtown los angeles. monica deanda, abc seven news. >> monica. thank you. president trump appears to be closely watching the situation unfolding in la. he's been posting on social media saying protesters shouldn't be allowed to wear masks. trump made that comment in a post on his social media site. now, in the past, he's also called for student protesters to be banned from wearing masks. privacy experts say mask bans could have a chilling effect on free speech, while also opening up protesters to political harassment. now, back here in the bay area, more demonstrations are planned today as people voice their solidarity with what's happening in los angeles. last night, protesters called for ice and the national

guard to leave. now this all started off peacefully, but it turned violent as the day turned to evening. abc seven news reporter zach fuentes is live in the newsroom with more on how things escalated. >> zach. >> yeah, reggie, we're just finding out that locally, around 60 people were arrested, according to sfpd, who said that late last night. they say those arrests were made after officers were injured and there was property damage. now, all of this started yesterday evening when hundreds of protesters gathered outside the ice field office on sansom street. they were carrying signs and chanting against the federal immigration enforcement and deployment of national guard troops to la. >> organizing. organizing. we need a united front of everybody who wants to oppose the scapegoating of immigrants. >> and the whole thing about going after immigrants and people who are undocumented, the most vulnerable are our populations. that is like, so wrong. >> now, eventually, police say a lot of people left once unlawful assembly was declared, but some people in the crowds got violent around 7 p.m, vandalizing buildings and attacking officers. two officers were

app, we'll send alerts when there are major developments you should know about. and coming up at 7 a.m. gma is going to be live in los angeles with the latest situation there. >> today is the first day of president trump's new sweeping travel ban. it's a revival of a ban from the first trump administration. you can see the 12 countries impacted here in purple, and they include iran, afghanistan, libya, myanmar and sudan. the seven other countries highlighted in yellow face partial restrictions. trump's proclamation cites national security threats and insufficient, ineffective, inefficient, excuse me screening processes. there are some exemptions green card holders, dual citizens and athletes traveling for world sporting events. they will be able to travel into the u.s. for the east bay. now a series of sideshows saturday night in vallejo. the sideshows began near tennessee avenue, bringing out hundreds of spectators and fireworks. there was also a second sideshow in richmond and a third in oakland. police broke

up all three sideshows. no word on whether any arrests were made. >> thousands of people gathered at jack london square for the inauguration of oakland mayor barbara lee. that celebration held yesterday on the ferry lawn. it included lots of music, artists and cultural performances to celebrate oakland's new mayor, oakland rapper mistah fab made an appearance on stage. mayor lee was officially sworn in as oakland's mayor may 20th. another celebration for lee held in east oakland at liberation park on foothill boulevard. organizers say it was an opportunity to showcase east oakland's vibrant culture, businesses and community spirit. >> it's important that, especially in times where things are tough or things are maybe a little uncertain in the world, that we come together and unity and solidarity with one another. and that's what this day is about unity and solidarity, not just as east oakland or west oakland or north oakland, but as one oakland celebrating.

haven't changed at all the percentages, so there's some opportunities there also. in condo sales in san francisco, there is an 11% increase in sales from last year. however, a 9% decrease in prices. >> all right. so he says despite a bit of a cooldown, the overall market is still very strong. >> a scooters lithium ion battery is suspected of sparking a fire in san francisco that critically burned two people. it happened yesterday morning in an apartment building on jones street in golden gate avenue. firefighters say the burning scooter was blocking an exit. crews were able to rescue two people from the unit. a new women's sports bar is coming to san francisco this week. ricky's in the castro says it's the first dedicated women's sports bar in the city, and it's opening on wednesday at its location on market street near sanchez. it is named after rikki streicher. she's a lesbian icon whose legacy includes founding the gay games federation. that was in the early 80s.
