now abc, seven mornings live. >> fireworks and arrests as immigration protests continue in la. we will take you there live with an update on another long night. >> san francisco mayor daniel lowry releasing a statement overnight as protests in the city were much calmer. police did make some arrests. >> plus, if you wanted to, you won't be getting close up with this 50 year old fountain anytime soon. the health concerns putting the future of this piece in jeopardy. and of course, that san francisco. >> good morning. welcome to tuesday. it's june 10th. >> yeah. let's get a check of the weather with drew. >> yeah. so again, just like yesterday, it's very cloudy out there. we're going to see sunshine this afternoon, but it will take time for our marine layer to pull back to the coastline. so you're looking live at sfo camera right now where you can certainly see it's overcast. also reports of drizzle out there and numerous spots. just an indication of our deep marine layer. you look at all of the locations on our screen right now and everybody is reporting overcast skies. so

even that fog has pushed inland first thing this morning. current temperatures underneath that canopy of cloud cover really uniform this morning. we're basically beginning in the mid 50s. and we kind of hang here the next few hours since that cloud cover is slow to depart, that sunshine is slow to appear. so here's 830 and we're still dealing with a lot of cloud cover this morning. by about 1130, it's certainly still cloudy on the coast, across the city and even parts of the east bay shoreline. basically from hayward up through el cerrito. we're still cloudy at that hour. as we head into the afternoon. temperatures will be cooler than yesterday and actually a few degrees below average, and it will turn breezy this afternoon. winds gusting about 20 to 30mph. let's check in with gloria on the roads this morning. >> good morning. we're getting started with a live look here at our richmond san rafael bridge. and you can see where the camera is. it is nice. traffic is flowing nicely here. however, when you get to the west end of san quentin, we do want to tell you about a two car crash that's blocking the right lane. and right now there are not any

major delays, but we'll keep you updated if that does cause some big delays. again, this is a west end and san quentin two car crash blocking the right lane and looking live at our bay bridge toll plaza camera. while traffic is really accumulated here. since we last looked at this about a half hour ago. those metering lights came on just before 540 this morning, and traffic is backed up to the middle of the parking lot, especially those middle lanes from highway four to san francisco. it will take you 47 minutes. and if you take mass transit, we have some good news for you. everything is on time. bart, caltrain, ace are all reporting that they're on time. no delays there. reggie. >> thank you. gloria. president trump is deploying hundreds of marines to los angeles. this video is showing a caravan of transport busses leaving the marine base in 29 palms last night. that is in san bernardino, san bernardino county, near joshua tree, about a 2.5 hour drive from la. the troops are supposed to be protecting federal property and personnel, including immigration

agents. governor newsom and officials in la say the federal response is unnecessary and actually heightening tensions in the city. authorities are preparing for a fifth day of protests over the federal immigration raids in southern california. >> demonstrations lasted late into the night last night, with some protesters breaking away from the larger peaceful groups to clash with police. reporter carly gomez, from our sister station in la is live for us this morning. good morning carly. >> good morning reggie. amanda, you can see right here behind me we're at a shoe palace. the looters here lifting up this frame here of metal, aluminum. and this is heavy. and you can see just how far they lifted it up to access this shoe palace now boarded up this morning. and, you know, people were really coming out quickly to board up these businesses. but still looters were able to get in even after the fact. now you can see on the floor a lot of boxes still left over. and what we've noticed mostly is just how much glass has been on the floors lately. you see boxes of shoes, hangers, taking whatever

they could early this morning. and police have been staging at least four major intersections on broadway, but have since left. and take a look at what happened overnight. we know overnight the adidas store, a jewelry store, the apple store, a shoe palace, two dispensaries and two pharmacies have been broken into and looted. most of the stores on broadway. more buildings and police vehicles have been defaced. mayor bass is holding a briefing at the emergency operations center today to update us on protests. as marines are on the way, trump sending in 700 marines and another 2000 national guard members. we know marines left twentynine palms last night. they are here now, but we have not seen them staged just yet. no timeline yet on when the national guard is expected to arrive. now most of the crowds from the overnight hours have left. we have seen a few of those groups still kind of wandering around. mostly what we've been seeing as well is a lot of people streaming, live streaming the events of the overnight hours, whether they were partaking or not. we've also been seeing some of the

cars out here with different states, license plates on nevada plate as well as in arizona plate. so some of those looters don't seem to be from the area. cleanup efforts are underway this morning, as many stores are now getting boarded up places or pieces of plywood up on their storefronts to really make way for the rest of their day. continuing to clean up this effort live in downtown la. carly gomez, abc seven news. >> all right, carly, thank you. in the bay area, thousands of people rallied in solidarity with protesters. in southern california, people marched through the streets of both san jose and san francisco yesterday. the demonstrations remained peaceful until some small groups broke off after it got dark. abc seven news reporter zach fuentes is in the newsroom with new video of the tense situation in san francisco overnight, and the message from mayor daniel lurie. zach. >> amanda. overnight, san francisco police confirmed some arrests were made after those smaller groups broke away from the large demonstration and began vandalizing businesses. now, this new video shows the

situation. you can see graffiti and some clashes between protesters. some were eventually taken into custody near union square early this morning, though sfpd did not say the exact number. before that. the demonstration was peaceful as hundreds made their way through the mission district carrying signs and chanting, many saying they're angry over federal immigration enforcement actions happening across the country, some saying that what's been happening has sent fear spreading fast through immigrant communities. >> i can't help but be angry. this stuff just enrages me inside and out. uh- knowing that we're just ripping people away right now, picking people up without any due process. it's just it's crazy. we're living through just unjust times. >> last night's protests follow the solidarity protest protests that happened sunday that started peaceful, but police say it turned violent when some people didn't leave after unlawful assembly was declared,

d.a. brooke jenkins confirmed that 148 arrests were made. now, in a statement overnight reacting to last night's protests, mayor daniel lurie said, quote, i was at the emergency operations center with our public safety partners and city departments overseeing a coordinated effort to keep our city safe. tonight's protest was larger than last night and significantly calmer. yesterday, we sent a clear message that we will always protect the right to protest peacefully, but we cannot tolerate violent behavior. that message was heard. i understand why people are out in the streets and i know there's fear in our communities. as mayor, i will always ensure we protect your right to protest peacefully and your right to be safe again. that quote coming from mayor daniel lurie. now, the da's office says it's going to be reviewing arrests and video deciding what charges to file this week. live in the newsroom zach fuentes, abc seven news. >> all right, zach, thank you. in the south bay. hundreds gathered in solidarity with los angeles, demanding ice leave their communities alone. they're calling on mayor matt mehan to

join the effort to support union leader david huerta. he was arrested in la and is being charged with federal conspiracy. >> california will sue the trump administration. governor newsom says the president trampled over the state's sovereignty. the president says governor newsom and the state should be thankful for the federal assistance. gloria, these political tensions only escalating. >> they are reggie aqui. california is now taking the trump administration to court over the president's order to federalize the national guard without the governor's approval. a president had not done that since lbj 60 years ago. state leaders say that president trump invoked a law intended for an invasion from foreign enemies. state republican leaders are blaming the situation in la on california's sanctuary policies. california's democratic congressional delegation says they are incredibly alarmed by the white house's actions. attorney general rob bonta called the move unlawful. >> he's trying to mainstream fringe theories that increase his power. that's why he calls things emergencies. that's why

trend for the rest of the week we're either at or just slightly below average thanks to our morning cloud cover. very slow to pull back to the coastline. that slows the warming process. so we'll look region by region today. and here's the coastline. it is overcast right now. when you see these small percentages on your screen that's the chance of some drizzle out there. very limited sunshine today. we do expect pretty gray conditions along the coast and highs only in the 50s. now around the bay shoreline. it's overcast right now. we get that sunshine breaking through closer to 11 a.m. this afternoon. daytime highs will be in the upper 60s to lower 70s, and it is breezy later on today, with winds gusting about 20 to 30mph. inland is where we see sunshine the fastest today. full sunshine this afternoon and those highs a few degrees below average later on today. those winds again do pick up a bit stronger than yesterday. we could have some isolated areas gusting over 30mph later on this afternoon. reggie. amanda. >> drew. thank you. wild hogs

the california department of fish and wildlife is launching a summer strike team to deter wolf attacks on livestock. they're offering a round the clock staff for livestock producers who have had frequent conflicts with wolves. staff would monitor wolf activity and use non-lethal means to keep them away. the reemergence of gray wolf populations has led multiple northern california counties to declare a state of emergency in recent weeks. >> and there is a wild hog problem impacting people in the south and east bay. three wet winters in a row have led to a population boom. the environmental damage is so extensive that several agencies are banding together to rein in the problem. the santa clara valley water district has contracted with the usda for pig removal, while the santa clara valley open space authority has turned to a local boar trapping company. >> they do direct damage to the environment. they tend to eat food by kind of plowing up the

dirt and kind of digging it up, almost like a rototiller in your front yard or something like that. or people who are hiking on our preserves. those encounters can be pretty scary. they will occasionally charge people or otherwise exhibit aggressive behavior. probably the animal that is actually most likely to do that. >> we're told east bay residents are seeing wild hogs in parklands, backyards, hiking trails, and even on water district properties. >> happening tonight in vacaville. the decision to sign an issue of pride month proclamation. the city council will vote on whether or not to empower the vice mayor to sign a 2025 pride proclamation. this is something the mayor is against. the council submitted a draft of the proclamation in february. during may's meeting, the mayor and vice and the vice mayor had a public disagreement over the timeline and process for this proclamation. although proclamations are honorary, the vice mayor's drafted version recognizes equal rights and calls for support of lgbtq youth. >> the 50 year old controversial

fountain at san francisco's embarcadero plaza will remain fenced indefinitely after being deemed a public safety risk, officials point to a new report showing the 700 ton sculpture has been deteriorating. it also contains toxic materials including asbestos and lead, and doesn't meet seismic safety codes. final decisions about the fate of the fountain will be determined by the arts commission, and possibly the board of supervisors. >> firefighters in san francisco want to convince people to keep doors closed inside their homes. recent house fires are prompting that advisory. one of those fires happened friday. we showed it to you as breaking news on abc seven mornings. the fire forced more than 30 tenants out of three buildings in the richmond district. the building sustained severe damage, and firefighters say the spread of flames could have been slowed if more doors inside the building were closed. >> and the fire has a flow path that's following a flow path. it's coming through the building. it hits this door. it bounces back. if this door was

open such as this, that same flow path is coming. and now, in addition to burning everything in here, it's now moving into this room. >> firefighters say as a precaution, you should close the doors to rooms in your home before you go to bed. >> no real id? no problem if you're an apple user with a passport. starting this fall, you'll be able to upload your passport to your apple wallet on your device. the tsa says it will accept the digital passport as identification at airport checkpoints, but only for domestic flights. if you're flying internationally, you still need to carry a physical passport. this feature will debut with the new iphone operating system. >> i feel like this will save. >> a lot of time too. you just have your phone, you're not going through your pockets, where's the id going through your purse or whatever, your passport. and you've got it all right there. >> i love it. you know, the thing we're not talking about when it comes to this apple operating system? >> what? >> the karaoke. >> yeah. >> tell us more.

we're finally breaking through with full sunshine. so our deep marine layer takes its time pulling back to the coastline. and that means the warming process, you see, is very gradual. over the next couple of hours. winds are a bit stronger today compared to yesterday afternoon, that onshore flow 20 to 30mph. there could be isolated spots on our map where we do see winds in excess of 30mph. so it's bright but breezy. this afternoon. highs in our microclimates starting the south bay clouds to sun here in the south bay. we'll see that sunshine breaking through before noon. temperatures right around 78. in san jose along the peninsula. cloudy all day along the coast. brighter and warmer around the bay shoreline. we'll see sunshine and redwood city, probably close to 10:11 a.m. this morning. 76 a high there. it stays cloudy all day across san francisco, just like yesterday. so do expect overcast skies. it will feel chilly upper 50s to the mid 60s with that breeze really picking up this afternoon. now in the north bay as you move away from the coast we do get nice mild conditions,

starting today, if you call 911 in contra costa county for a health issue, they may connect you to a nurse. people who don't need an ambulance or emergency care can talk it through with a licensed nurse over the phone. instead, the nurses can give advice or set up medical appointments. the county says callers do not need to have insurance and will not be billed. santa clara county already launched a similar nurse navigation program back in november. california's legislature may have given local transit systems a lifeline before they have to make service cuts. an agreement rejected part of the governor governor's proposed budget, cutting $1.1 billion from the state's public transit agencies. instead, the deal extends a two year, $750 million interest free loan for

>> and we'll introduce you to two northern california high school grads competing in what's known as the tony's for teenagers. >> all that talent. >> good morning everyone. it's tuesday, june 10th. >> let's first get a check of the forecast. hey, drew. >> hey. good morning. you can see behind us. it's very cloudy, so we'll take the exploratorium camera where you can see our marine layer. this morning is really low right now, covering the tops of our buildings. a lot of reports of drizzle out there right now, this deep marine layer even pushing as far inland as walnut creek and concord right now. so we do begin with our morning gray conditions. temperatures are in the 50s right now, and this is where we'll hang for the next couple of hours. with that sunshine. very slow to break through the cloud cover. it means the warming process is quite slow this morning. here's a look at future weather by 830. we're still in a similar spot with a lot of cloud cover up above. as we head towards 11 a.m. we see that marine layer shrink, but certainly still cloudy over the city at that hour. lots of clouds along the coast and cloud cover still dominating parts of

the east bay shoreline, essentially from about el cerrito down through hayward. we are still quite cloudy at that hour as we head into the afternoon. temperatures are a little bit cooler compared to yesterday and a few degrees below average in many spots. so here's a look at daytime highs. winds do pick up this afternoon, gusting about 20 to 30mph. let's check in with gloria see how the commute is going. >> good morning so far. looking pretty good out there. one thing to keep in mind though, it is foggy. i know when i was driving in this morning it was pretty foggy out there. that's the case here at the golden gate bridge. you can see our live look here with the fog, but thankfully it's not causing any major delays there. you just want to be extra careful when you are driving in that fog. also foggy in emeryville. this is a live look here and traffic is busy on westbound 80 as you head towards the bay bridge. and right now it will take you about an hour to get from highway four to san francisco. looking at your drive times. if you're driving on the bridges this morning on the richmond-san rafael bridge from point richmond to san rafael, eight minutes on the san mateo

bridge from hayward to foster city, 16 minutes. and if you're on the dumbarton bridge from the toll plaza, menlo park, eight minutes. amanda. >> all right. >> gloria, thank you. and this morning we are tracking the tense situation in la as protests against federal immigration raids enter their fifth day. the trump administration is sending hundreds of marines into the city. president trump is also ordering more national guard members over the objections of governor newsom and l.a. mayor karen bass. here's abc news reporter perry russom. >> this morning. president trump sending 700 marines to los angeles amid the protests against immigration and customs enforcement. the marines will support the nearly 1700 national guard troops already on the ground, some seen here protecting a courthouse. >> the introduction of federal military personnel without direct coordination creates logistical challenges and risks confusion during critical incidents. >> la's police chief says most of the protests in the city have been peaceful. he says those who engage in violence or vandalism

will be arrested. la mayor karen bass says the federal government's response is contributing to the chaos. >> it makes me feel like our city is actually a test case, a test case for what happens when the federal government moves in and takes the authority away from the state or away from local government. >> it comes as peaceful demonstrations against ice are spreading to other major cities nationwide, including atlanta, chicago and new york. >> we are not criminals. >> california governor gavin newsom, now in a war of words with president trump after trump expressed support of arresting newsom. abc's karen travers with the president. >> what crime has he committed that would warrant his arrest? what crime has governor newsom committed. >> a crime? has he committed. >> yet to warrant his arrest? >> i think his primarily primary crime is running for governor because he's done such a bad job. >> newsom challenging trump on a podcast. >> i told the president, just just get it over with. arrest me. move on.

>> california has sued the trump administration. they are trying to stop the deployment of national guard troops and marines. the mayor says they are only protecting two federal buildings downtown. perry, russom. abc news, washington. >> waymo is scaling back service in san francisco because of the protests. people in la set several robotaxis on fire over the weekend. waymo was limiting trips near the protests in san francisco last night. at several points throughout the night, the waymo app said no cars were available. a waymo vehicle was vandalized in san francisco during sunday night's protests. waymo is stopping all service in downtown la for now, after five of its robotaxis were vandalized over the weekend. l.a. firefighters say the waymo fires are even more dangerous than a typical car fire because of the way their batteries burn. >> but the public must understand that when lithium ion batteries burn, they release hydrogen fluoride gas. that's a highly toxic substance. it can damage your lungs, it can be

from their children, that's not right. we have to come out here and tell the world it's not right. >> the demonstration was peaceful until nightfall, when two large groups broke off. or i should say, when two groups broke off from the larger group. san francisco police say those smaller groups vandalized buildings. some did get arrested late last night after clashing with police. right now, it's not clear exactly how many. >> now to a local action in the south bay. hundreds gathered outside san jose city hall demanding that ice leave their communities alone. abc seven news reporter zach fuentes has been tracking the local protests and is live in the newsroom with more. zach. >> amanda, organizers of the san jose protest, said it was an emergency call to action after seeing the ice raids in los angeles. all of this as the city is set to make a big vote on emergency funding to expand legal defense for undocumented families. but as for that protest, hundreds of people came out to chant and make their voices heard. that includes community members, community organizations, and city officials. city council member pamela campos said in the past

the department of justice demanded a response from schools, indicating whether or not they will exclude trans athletes. bonta says the state department of education told the trump administration schools will follow state law, which protects trans athletes participation. assistant attorney general harmeet dhillon threatened legal action if schools don't comply. >> we look forward to responding to this case in court once we're once we're served with it. but i will, you know, have other colleagues involved in that since i'm named in this lawsuit. so i love california. i lived in california for 25 years. and it's really embarrassing what california's leaders have let that state become. >> bonta's lawsuit aims to prevent the trump administration from withholding funding over this issue. governor newsom's office estimates of california's nearly 6 million k-12 students, fewer than ten are transgender athletes. >> this morning, new concerns after a health and human services secretary, rfk jr, dismissed a panel of vaccine advisers. that panel historically guides the federal

government's vaccine recommendations. he's replacing all 17 members of the cdc's vaccine advisory committee, and he says the removal is a step toward restoring public trust in vaccines. kennedy is famously skeptical of vaccines, and last week, he said the hhs would no longer recommend the covid vaccine for healthy children and pregnant women. he did not consult the panel for that decision. local health officials are worried this will cause people to forego a vaccine. >> so the best way to protect pregnant women and very young infants is for a covid vaccination. that was in the cdc guidance. it recognizes that pregnancy is a risk factor for poor covid outcome. >> marin county's public health officer is predicting a summer surge in covid 19. she's recommending anyone six months or older get. back vaccinated. >> coming up, san jose's mayor leading calls to release text messages between city council members who allegedly used racial slurs. >> let's take a live look at the big board at the new york stock

>> an oakland businessman is being sued by the department of justice. the department alleges the owner of jerusalem cafe violated title two of the civil rights act. according to court documents, two men were allegedly denied service at the cafe because of their baseball hats that had symbols associated with judaism. an attorney representing the business owner says his client never denied service and opposes anti-semitism. he claims one of the customers involved has an alleged history of engaging in public fights about the war in gaza. the department of justice believes it has more to do with the men's religion. >> no american should feel afraid or unwilling or worried that if they go into a particular restaurant that's open to the public, that they won't be served because of their articles of faith. >> in our view, is very much a political attack and an

anti-semitism, which is a very real problem in this country and in the world, is being distorted and weaponized. >> in addition to the federal lawsuit, both customers have filed individual suits against the business owner. >> the convicted killer of an east bay journalist has been released from state prison on parole. according to our partners at the bay area news group, devaughndre, broussard has been released after serving more than 17 years. he's the convicted hitman who confessed to the 2007 killing of oakland post publisher chauncey bailey. broussard cut a deal with prosecutors to testify that he carried out the hit on orders from yusuf bey, the fourth. he's the leader of oakland's now defunct your black muslim bakery. prosecutors say bailey was killed before he was set to publish a scathing story about the bakery. new developments in the south bay, where the san jose, silicon valley naacp and san jose mayor matt mehan are calling for the release of text

messages between city council members that allegedly contained racial slurs. and gloria, we are learning council members peter ortiz and domingo candelas are said to have been part of those messages. >> san jose council members peter ortiz and domingo candelas represent the east side of the city. it's a diverse community, and a report by the san jose spotlight claims the text thread was discovered when the phone of ex councilmember omar torres was seized as part of his unrelated criminal investigation. messages allegedly included the use of the n word, as well as the derogatory term used to describe mexicans. the text thread included the council members ken ellis, chief of staff, the community relations manager for the san jose downtown association, who is also ortiz's partner, and the working partnerships usa transportation policy director. >> just really disheartening that, you know, we haven't heard an apology yet. now the community is going to scream, can we trust these people to advocate for us? and that would

can merge, adapt and shrink. taking a live look at the new york stock exchange as trading gets underway. we're down about 30 points. >> the silicon valley bart extension is facing another setback. according to the chronicle staff at the valley transportation authority, they're recommending bart find a new contractor to dig the underground tunnel that will connect three stations. it's due to an effort to keep the project on budget, but finding a new contractor could set construction back by 18 months. vta staff will present their new proposal on thursday. >> today, the continued push for speed cameras in oakland, the city's department of transportation meeting with the public works and transportation committee. the goal is to authorize a contract for a speed safety camera vendor. in today's hearing, if today's hearing is successful, they'll need full city council approval next week. they're projecting cameras could be up and running by the end of the year. it was the final ride for the historic aids life cycle. the seven day ride from san francisco to los angeles
