underway in minnesota after a state representative and her husband were shot and killed, and a state senator and his wife were shot and wounded in what's being called an act of targeted political violence. also, millions of americans are holding no kings protests across the nation and around the bay area, denouncing what organizers describe as president trump's authoritarian policies. abc seven news at 430 starts right now. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. >> a live look right now at our nation's capitol. president trump is presiding over a military parade that coincides with his birthday and celebrates the u.s. army's 250th year anniversary. good evening, and thanks for joining us. i'm j.r. stone. we'll have much more on the military parade and no kings day demonstrations. but first, a day of political protest begins with a deadly act of political

violence. a democratic state representative and her husband have been killed. and a state senator and his wife wounded in what authorities are calling a politically motivated attack. here's abc news reporter olivia rubin with the latest. >> democratic state representative melissa hortman and her husband shot and killed this morning in what minnesota's governor is calling a politically motivated assassination. authorities say it happened around 3:30 a.m. at their home in the minneapolis suburb of brooklyn park.polis >> our state lost a great leader and i lost a dearest of friends. speaker hortman was someone who served the people of minnesota with grace, compassion, humor, and a sense of service. >> roughly 90 minutes earlier in nearby champlin, law enforcement saying state senator john hoffman and his wife shot and wounded. >> this was an act of targeted political violence. >> following the shooting of the hoffman's officers going to proactively check on hortman as they arrived at the state representatives home, they say they noticed what appeared to be a police vehicle in the

driveway, with emergency lights on and an officer leaving the premises. >> brooklyn park police officers encountered them, individual who immediately fired at them and they exchanged gunfire, and then the individual was able to escape during that exchange of gunfire. >> investigators say the suspect fled the scene on foot, and say they searched his car and found a list of names that suspect, identified as 57 year old vance boelter. >> do not approach him. you should consider him armed and dangerous, and you should call 911 immediately with the information. >> according to law enforcement sources, the list in his car, including democratic politicians in minnesota, at the state and federal levels, state officials and local law enforcement say there is now increased security presence for lawmakers and other officials in washington. political leaders from both sides of the aisle, including former president joe biden, with a similar message saying political violence has no place in the country. the entire congressional minnesota delegation also releasing a

joint statement condemning the attack. olivia rubin, abc news, new york. >> california governor gavin newsom, echoing that sentiment and calling for peace in politics as thousands of people gathered in cities, both large and small, for protests against president trump and his policies. abc seven capturing the scene on the ground and with sky seven in the air as demonstrations stretched from san jose to santa rosa and dozens of cities in between. abc seven news reporter tara campbell was at the rally and march in san francisco, which drew one of the largest crowds in the area. >> people united will never be defeated. >> a message of peaceful resistance on the streets of san francisco saturday. >> from california. >> thousands upon thousands starting at dolores park for the no. king's march coinciding with president trump's parade in washington, d.c, celebrating the army's 250th birthday. >> i'm out here because i

want to save our democracy. >> and marches like this across the country are expected to be the largest since the first trump administration. >> this is the only way they're going to hear us, is if enough of us are out herd 2000 of these, definitely they're going to be heard. >> now. >> protesters packing the streets, making their way to civic center. sky seven capturing the large crowds of people filling the streets. what do you think of the turnout? >> i think it's amazing. i think the bay area really shows up and opportunities when we are here to fight for peace and justice. >> not for ice and deportations. >> indivisible sf is the event organizer committed to keeping it peaceful. indivisible has been involved in a lot of protests, a lot of movements. how does this one compare to others? >> this one feels larger because i think what we've noticed in the last, even last week with everything was going on with la, more and more people have coming out like, what can i do? >> what do we do? >> stand up, fight back. >> everybody needs to get off the couch. i don't know what

your justification is for not doing what you need to do, but it's time. it's time. we have to do this. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. >> no kids, no kids. >> thousands turned out in oakland's chinatown for the no king's protest. the day included speeches from mayor barbara lee and other local leaders. protests started gathering at wilma chan park around 11 this morning. they marched to frank ogawa plaza where they held a rally. the day ended with a call to action, with protesters invited to a meeting on monday to learn about where we go from here. a live look now at the nation's capitol, which is holding a grand parade to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the army. the event, also happening at the same time as president trump's birthday. abc news reporter perry russom has more. >> washington, d.c. in the spotlight for the 250th anniversary of the army. >> i think military for

everything they. >> do along the national mall, a military festival honoring the history of the army. from helicopters to howitzers. officials say more than 6000 troops are expected to be here. >> i'm a veteran, but i believe in service to country. and truly, our country has the greatest history on the planet of the world's greatest fighting force. >> the army also having the strength competition, really working hard out here in the heat and humidity. they are hitting the assault bike. they're deadlifting. senior leadership says this is a chance to show off what they can do, show off their strength and how they work as a team. the army says the entire celebration, which is also happening on president trump's birthday, is estimated to cost as much as $45 million. polling from the associated press and norfolk center for public affairs research finds about 6 in 10 americans say this is not a good use of government money. some people have been having some concerns about how much this is costing army, saying up to $45 million. what's your response to that? >> i think you know what i think the response is we've got to support our military, and it's important to come together here on our homeland and support them. >> security is top of mind.

there are miles of non-scalable fencing around the festival and parade route. >> i'm really disappointed. it looks like an armed city. >> it comes as there are counter protests in cities across the country. >> this is what democracy looks like. >> it's a part of what's being called no king's day. crowds gathering in atlanta, a rain swept boston and west palm beach outside president trump's mar a lago home. >> america is about democracy. what we're seeing right now is not democracy. it's about one person, their ego, their agenda. >> it all culminates tonight with the military parade and fireworks. even though this is president trump's 79th birthday, the army says they have no plans to formally recognize him. perry russom, abc news, washington. >> and this is a live look at washington, d.c. right now. you see president trump right there with his family and the entire trump administration. the trump military parade is streaming live right now on abc news live, hulu and disney+.

>> you get streaming. >> stay on. >> we are not shooting the bird. >> no, no. just these little things here. >> wow. >> and this celebration of the army's 250th in the east bay, the city of dublin, along with camp parks, hosted a birthday bash at don biddle park. there was music from the u.s. army band, vintage military vehicles, and live demonstrations from military personnel. camp parks was a navy base during world war two, then morphed into an army training facility. over 20,000 army reserve and national guard soldiers were trained at camp parks through the years. new today a change in policy from the white house on its deportation campaign. the department of homeland security says it's directing immigration and customs enforcement agents to pause raids on farms, hotels and restaurants. it comes after trump publicly acknowledged those industries have been hurt by his deportation agenda. the new guidance arrived in an email, which also says

investigations involving human trafficking, money laundering and drug smuggling into these industries are still okay. new developments out of the middle east. a new wave of attacks from both israel and iran this evening. israel hit 150 iranian targets overnight. iran responded by targeting facilities that produce fuel for israeli jets. iran also canceled nuclear talks with the u.s. set for sunday, saying they're unjustifiable while israel's attacks continue. the tensions in the area ratcheted up thursday night, with israeli strikes across iran killing top military commanders, nuclear scientists and dozens of other people, including children. israel says it has carried out the attack in an attempt to eliminate iran's nuclear program. much more ahead on abc seven news at 430. the latest plot twist following the bankruptcy of 23 andme, the familiar name who has won the

marched and demonstrated in downtown walnut creek earlier this afternoon. we also saw a large gathering of protesters in pleasant hill. a new twist in the saga of 23 and me, and the personal and genetic data of millions of customers. the company announced a purchase agreement with its founder and former ceo. that ceo won a bid to buy all of the company's assets for $305 million. that includes the genetic data of up to 15 million customers. 23 andme filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year. the proposal is subject to approval by a bankruptcy court. >> it's a celebration of black freedom, culture, food, music, just us being together, celebrating, you know, brings people together. no matter. doesn't matter what color you are. so it's all about community. so that's i think that's what's most important. >> in the south bay. san jose

went a little bit country this year and their celebration of juneteenth. the city is celebrating black cowboy and cowgirl culture, and there's a country western vibe to the celebration. the bill pickett rodeo, along with their horses and riders, were part of the grand opening ceremony. rising country singer tierra kennedy featured on beyoncé's cowboy cowboy carter album, is one of the festival's headliners. >> the wonderful three band give it to him one more time. >> in san francisco's fillmore district. thousands gathered today for the neighborhood's annual juneteenth celebration, going on until six. the event features live music, food, games and carnival rides spanning eight blocks along fillmore street between fulton and geary. juneteenth is next week, june 19th, and commemorates the emancipation of enslaved people in the united states. next on abc seven news. at 430, you might have trouble catching a waymo this weekend. why? the

test held all around the bay area. this was the scene in madera where we saw hundreds of people demonstrating this morning. we also saw a large gathering of about 100 protesters in olema in western marin county. the bay area protests meant some disruptions for people trying to catch a waymo. customers were told to expect longer wait times, modified routes and even no go zones. last week, several waymo cars were caught in an anti ice protest in los angeles. at least three were set on fire. at least one waymo was vandalized during the protests here in san francisco. moving along right now, frances dinglasan joins me. i mean, one thing that we've seen with all this video coming from outside these protests, the weather looks beautiful. >> yeah, we got a lot more sunshine today. just some passing high clouds. and that allowed temperatures to warm up a few degrees in some spots. some stayed about the same though as we show you live doppler seven, the satellite radar image. we're still

seeing some of those high clouds passing through. and as we show you live view from sutro looking down at san francisco, some cirrus clouds in the sky and temperatures hovered near where they were yesterday. at this time in san francisco, currently 61 oakland, 64 degrees san jose 74. redwood city really comfortable at 78 and half moon bay 57 degrees. notice the cameras bouncing a little bit. so we are still seeing some breezes, especially in the higher elevations as we look here from the east bay hills out towards mount diablo. so you'll notice fairfield and concord and livermore in the 80s, where they're getting lots more sunshine early on. santa rosa also very comfortable at 75, petaluma and napa right now in the upper 60s. so the winds not as strong, but they're still ranging anywhere from 15 to 25mph, gusting to 22 right now, novato and also at sfo. and the reason for this is we have this area of high pressure. this low pressure is going to stay to our

north, but that increases onshore flow. with that in mind, we'll still see some high clouds moving through, but not much fog tomorrow morning. and then with the more sunshine or more sunshine for father's day, that does mean slightly warmer temperatures tonight will drop into the mid 40s for the north bay, and low 50s all around the bay area. and then tomorrow look for temperatures just to come up a touch for some areas. with more sunshine. we'll see some partly cloudy conditions though, in half moon bay in the afternoon and with that onshore flow, 58 degrees will be the high san francisco 63, oakland 6876. in san jose and then in fairfield. antioch some mid 80s. really comfortable if you're heading up towards napa. 78 degrees santa rosa 81. as we jump ahead to tuesday, we'll notice a more will notice more of a warmup for inland areas. we'll see some upper 80s. wednesday will be the warmest day of the week. we could see even

some low to mid 90s. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so we have a little bump up for temperatures for father's day tomorrow. little change on monday. sunny and warmer on tuesday. getting hot inland for wednesday and then cooler for juneteenth. the first day of summer is on friday, the longest day for us, and temperatures start to reach more normal numbers mild and steady through next weekend. >> game two between the giants and dodgers going down tonight. g-men lookingo carry over the momentum from last night's win that gave them the first place tie with la. that victory much in thanks to their ace through seven. logan webb allowed two runs. struck out for that sinker. just nasty webb moves to six and five with the win and the offense. they complemented three homers in this win for san francisco, but none bigger than casey schmidt's first career grand slam. best part is he knew that thing was

gone. 420ft gone. he just looked at the dugout and was like, yeah, i just did that. that gave the giants the five one lead and they kept it. schmidt made a key error in thursday's loss to colorado, so this made him feel a whole lot better. >> to be able to come through like that in that situation. you know, that was that was a big thing for me, me personally as well, you know, to be able to come through and put the team up. >> i was just kind of in shock. he hit that very far. so i was uh. but yeah, guys were excited. anytime you hit a grand slam, especially in this place, kind of quiets the whole crowd. you know, it's pretty cool. >> the golden state valkyries are back in action tonight as they welcome in the seattle storm to chase center. valkyries are looking for their third straight win, which would be a first of the season. also important to know a win would put them at 500 game tips off at 530. we'll have highlights tonight at 11. the thunder tie up the nba finals at two games apiece, with the finals heading back to oklahoma city for game

music is filling the streets of san francisco's north beach neighborhood this weekend. the 71st annual north beach festival kicked off today and will continue through tomorrow night. the event features music, arts, crafts and more than 200 vendors. you can also indulge in some delicious food with the well-known north beach restaurants. organizers also added two additional blocks to the festival this year from stockton to filbert. the event is family friendly, offering activities for all ages. looks like a good time all around. we missed it. we missed food. >> saxophone. technical. >> we still go tomorrow. that's it for abc7 news at 430. for sarah hodges a
