national guard. >> he is a legal battle over president trump's deployment of the california national guard in los angeles will continue tomorrow in a federal appeals court in san francisco. the ninth circuit pausing u.s. district judge charles breyer's ruling last week, ordering trump to return control of the national guard to governor newsom. the trump administration appealed that ruling, and a three judge panel ruling staying that order, keeping the national guard under president trump's control for now. melissa michaelsen is a political science and constitutional law professor at menlo college in atherton. and she says there's a chance the governor gets control back, or that the case could stay in limbo a little longer. >> another possible outcome is that they say, well, you know, we're going to take some more time to think about this. and for the, you know, for the foreseeable future, we're going to leave control with the president until we've made a decision. >> meanwhile, the 4000 national guard troops deployed to los angeles have remained there, and their fate could possibly be

decided tomorrow. but no matter the decision, michaelson says that the case is likely headed to the supreme court. live in the studio gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> president trump is ordering immigration officials to expand deportation efforts in cities, as he puts it, run by democrats. he made that announcement on social media yesterday. in his post, he called on ice officials to, quote, expand efforts toials detain and deport. again, his words illegal aliens and america's largest cities such as los angeles, chicago and new york, end quote. he went on to claim that there are millions of undocumented people living in those cities and claim they are, quote, the core of the democrat power center, where they use illegal aliens to expand their voter base, cheat in elections and grow the welfare state. california senator alex padilla is defending his actions that led to agents detaining him last week. he suggesting the administration is intentionally provoking these confrontations. >> if all the trump administration was doing was

truly focusing on dangerous, violent criminals, as they suggest, there would be no debate, there would be no disagreement. but we've seen story after story after story of hardworking women and men uh- undocumented but otherwise law abiding good people being subject to the terror that the immigration enforcement operations is subjecting the people to. >> padilla, along with some fellow democrats, sent a lettere weekend, writing in part, quote, it's a dangerous misuse of federal power that has actively disrupted local law enforcement efforts to maintain peace and order. deploying military personnel should always be a last resort, not a first step. >> in san francisco, activists believe dozens of immigrant detentions were possibly stopped by their actions. over the weekend, they held two days of protests outside of an ice subcontractor's office on tehama street. the group blocked entrances to the building on both saturday and sunday. they say many immigrant

families reported getting messages from ice to check in over the weekend. >> we strongly suspect that this was to detain many of r community members. however, starting yesterday, the community has come out in such power that the office where people were called to come in has not opened since yesterday. >> abc seven news has reached out to u.s. immigration and customs enforcement for comment, but we've not heard back today. >> organizers of the no. king's march plan to hold a call to talk about what's next. people in dozens of cities across the country protested saturday. sky seven was over marches in sanky francisco and san jose as they happened. organizers say the overall message was to stand up against authoritarianism and was, quote, a reminder we are still here, still organizing, still rising, still unafraid. it went on to say, we don't do kings in this country. we do solidarity. we do community, we do justice, and we do it together. and at the live desk this morning, we're tracking the shootings of to minnesota lawmakers and their spouses. today, the man accused

in the deadly attacks is scheduled to face a judge for the first time. 57 year old vance boulter was arrested last night near his farm. he's been charged with two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder. minnesota state representative melissa hortman and her husband died after being shot at their home saturday morning. investigators say boulter also shot state senator john hoffman and his wife. they survived. authorities are saying that boulter planned to target other democratic lawmakers and abortion rights activists. top democratic leaders are now calling for increased security for lawmakers. >> it's part of a troubling pattern, a wave of political violence that threatens the very foundation of this republic. and let me be clear violence has no place, no place in our politics. >> senators are set to receive a bipartisan security briefing later today on capitol hill. >> developing news out of the middle east, where israel and iran have been exchanging

missile attacks for a fourth day in a row overnight, israel claims it has gained control of the airspace over tehran. and now we're learning the impact of this conflict right here at home. analysts warn gas prices could spike in the coming weeks. here's abc news reporter nicole deantonio. >> this morning, families in tel aviv searching through rubble after iran launched a fresh barrage of missiles overnight. israeli officials say five people were killed, bringing the death toll inside israel to at least 17 since the attacks began friday. israeli defense forces saying iran launched dozens of missiles and drones in a coordinated overnight strike with interceptors deployed across major cities. abc's ian pannell is there. >> the building shook. it was a big bang. it fell. the shrapnel. we could hear the shrapnel falling. >> israel attacking iran's capital, tehran, from the air. explosions and plumes of smoke rising over the city. israel saying new strikes today targeted missile sites in central iran. more than 220

could rise $0.20 per gallon in the coming weeks. nicole deantonio, abc news, washington. >> 510 we're looking at your highs today. we are going to find temperatures that are cooler than average today. and in some cases, like livermore, we're about ten degrees cooler than average. so we have these numbers running a bit below where we should be. but it will be a sunny day and a little breezy this afternoon. the coastline is going to see a fair amount of sunshine today. it's going to be a really beautiful day along the coast. we'll have increasing sunshine throughout the morning, temperatures hovering in the 50s to near 60 degrees, and that wind will pick up later on today, gusting about 20 o 30mph. around the bay shoreline. we have partly cloudy skies right now. some patchy fog out there, but we do find brighter conditions later on today. highs upper 60s, lower 70s and again it will get breezy out there inland today, even though we are below average by several degrees, it's still really pleasant for the new week we have here. lots of sunshine inland, those temperatures upper 70s to lower 80s for daytime highs. weather. wellness. today

saturday night when torrential rains fell in parts of the state. flash floods swept vehicles into creeks and even caused an apartment building to collapse. >> i started hearing something like bursting and it was other people's windows bursting because their apartments were filling up with water, and it was scary how fast it could happen. one second i was washing dishes, the other minute i'm swimming down the hallway with my child. >> the danger isn't over yet. officials say there was a flood watch in the region through tomorrow. >> it's been almost six months since the palisades fire, and now the community is officially open to the public. authorities have lifted the evacuation order. previously, only residents and contractors were allowed into the area. since the fire in january, crews have been working to clear downed wires. potentially explosive lithium ion batteries and toxic wildfire debris for more than 3200 properties. some are raising concerns about the long term pollution from contamination. oakland police are investigating

several sideshows over the weekend. witnesses say they ended with cars set on fire. the sideshows happened early sunday morning in three different places foothill and 55th, 98th and empire and international boulevard and 42nd. police broke up the crowds as oakland fire responded to the car fires. >> police in san francisco are investigating another incident of vandalism at sunset dunes. that's the city's newest park along the great highway. a piece called ocean calling is a public art installation with a phone booth. it was found destroyed last week. then on saturday, a community piano was found broken beyond repair. the friends of sunset dunes nonprofit is looking to replace it. as we've reported, the area has been a point of contention since the closure of the great highway made way for this park. >> new leaders are taking command of san francisco's police force following a series of changes, according to the chronicle. tracy mcrae, the president of the san francisco police officers association, is among those being promoted.

she's moving up two ranks from lieutenant to commander. that starts july 5th. that new position means she's going to have to resign from leading the rank and file. it's not clear who's going to replace her. the change was just announced by acting chief paul. yep. who took over for longtime police chief bill scott. >> today, a new giant is making his way to the bay area. san francisco made a blockbuster trade to build up the roster yesterday. designated hitter rafael devers from the boston red sox is coming into town this trade deal giving the orange and black some much needed firepower at the plate. devers has 15 home runs this season and 330 home run season in his career. the giants haven't seen production like that since barry bonds in the 2000. it is a pricey deal. $260 million are still owed on his contract, making it the largest contract in team history. the giants gave up two pitchers and two minor leaguers for devers. the trade shocked the baseball world.

circuit decision. we're going to just let that stand. >> the 4000 national guard troops deployed to los angeles have remained there. a federal appeals court in san francisco will take up the case tomorrow. and, of course, we'll keep you updated on that. live in the studio. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news.ria rodriguez, abc >> thank you. gloria. friends and family of a livermore father deported by ice to mexico last weekend are demanding he be brought home. miguel lopez was taken to tijuana. hours before a federal judge ordered immigration officials to keep him in the country. last week, more than 200 protesters held a rally in downtown livermore. lopez was detained by ice officials during a routine check in at an ice office in san francisco. >> saturday's protests in downtown los angeles led to 35 arrests. police clashed with people in an attempt to break the crowd ahead of an 8 p.m. curfew, and they imposed a dispersal order at around 4 p.m, used tear gas and crowd control measures as well. most of the arrests were for curfew

violations. lapd reports. three officers were injured and this morning we are working to learn if waymo still has a no go zone in parts of san francisco. over the weekend, the company modified routes to ignore parts of downtown and other nearby neighborhoods due to the anti ice protests. at least one waymo was vandalized during the protests here. waymo's weren't running at all in los angeles this weekend. several were lit on fire during protests there. new developments in the shootings of two minnesota lawmakers and their spouses. the man accused in the attacks is set to face a judge for the first time today. abc news reporter nicole deantonio has more on what we're learning about the suspect and the growing memorial outside the state capitol. >> this morning. the manhunt for the suspect wanted in the shooting of two minneapolis lawmakers and their spouses comes to an end overnight.s police arresting vance boelter near his farm in green isle, southwest of minneapolis. police now calling this the largest manhunt in minnesota state

history. the search lasted nearly two days after the shootings happened. >> that's 48 hours that law enforcement involved in a complex and dangerous manhunt. uh- spent father's day away from their families to deliver justice for melissa and mark hortman and their children, who spent this father's day alone. >> boelter is accused of killing former minnesota house speaker melissa hortman and her husband, and in a separate incident, shooting state senator john hoffman and his wife. the violence underscoring a troubling trend threats to elected officials are on the rise. >> it's part of a troubling pattern, a wave of political violence that threatens the very foundation of this republic. and let me be clear violence has no place, no place in our politics. >> republican majority leader john thune and house speaker mike johnson have also both condemned the incident and all acts of political violence. abc news has learned investigators found a vehicle of interest and

personal items they believe belonged to boelter, including writings and a list of potential targets. they say the suspect left behind, including the names of many democratic lawmakers and abortion rights advocates, along with addresses. so far, no motive has been released. nationally, 43% of state lawmakers reported facing threats during their most recent term in office and the preceding campaign. meanwhile, a makeshift memorial for hortman and her husband continues to grow outside the state capitol in minnesota. visitors leaving flowers, signs and american flags to honor the lives lost. senators will receive a bipartisan security briefing when they return to work later today. nicole deantonio, abc news, washington. >> some tech giants are reportedly cutting ties with scale ai, a san francisco based artificial intelligence company, according to reuters. google and microsoft are reconsidering their partnerships with the company after meta brought a 49% stake in it. google planned to

give the ai company $200 million, but now google is talking to other competitors. scale ai focuses on gender generative ai data labeling, and data curation. >> new details in the 23 me data sale. now, the san francisco based company says it's reached an agreement with the company's founder and former ceo. that ceo won a bid to buy all of the company's assets for $305 million. that includes the genetic data of up to 15 million customers. 23 filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy earlier this year. the proposal is still subject to approval by a bankruptcy court.o now to our abc seven mornings advance. we preview what's happening in the bay area, and today we are focusing on commuters. >> yeah, we'll start with an alert for caltrain riders starting today. train service will be suspended between the tamien and diridon stations in san jose for eight months to give crews time to repair the guadalupe bridge. caltrain will provide bus service through the area each day during

no matter where you are from bodega bay, down through santa cruz and monterey, we will have sunny conditions. but again, that breeze does pick up this afternoon. your ocean water temperature coming in at 55 degrees and the uv index is very high. so highs today we are slightly below average, but we're bright and breezy this afternoon. and those daytime highs mainly in the 60s and 70s around the bay shoreline. warmest areas inland will be in the 70s and in the 80s later on this afternoon. but over the next couple of days, we are going to introduce some warmer weather into the forecast. for much of the month so far, temperatures have been at or below average, but that will change tomorrow and wednesday as warmer weather starts to move in here by tomorrow afternoon. warmest areas into the 90s. and then wednesday is going to be the warmest day we have all week. widespread 80s and 90s away from the coast. so we'll take a closer look at these daytime highs, region by region, coming up on the seven-day

seven summit. he's meeting with the canadian prime minister and other world leaders. top of mind trade deals and the war between russia and ukraine, and the conflict between iran and israel. 2018 was the last time canada hosted the summit, and at that time, trump withdrew his support for the joint resolution issued by the g-7 leaders. new this morning, eli lilly is making the weight loss drug more available to customers outside of insurance. that could make the drug more affordable to some patients. the company announced this morning it's including the 12.5 and 15 milligram vials in its lilly direct service. alln approved doses of the drug will be available online for $499 or less, beginning in august. people paying the monthly self-pay program will still need a doctor's prescription, but it is an option to pay without insurance coverage. >> a new warning this morning

about products easily available at convenience stores. they've become known as gas station heroin. abc news reporter alison kosik explains the growing concern. >> this morning. a new warning from the fda about products like these marketed as energy shots or cognitive supplements sold at gas stations, convenience stores and vape shops, sometimes called gas station heroin for its opioid like effects. these elixirs, pills, and powders with names like neptune's fix and zaza contain tianeptine, a drug that's never been approved by the fda and can be addictive and cause serious side effects. >> it's very invigorating. it's a distraction from reality. >> abc news spoke with hannah gilliam last year. she says she got addicted to tianeptine. >> it was it was miserable. >> i have withdrawal from heroin. i've withdrawal from pain pills. i've withdrawn. you know, pain pills that were coming with fentanyl. and they

don't they don't even measure close to what those pain with those withdrawals from tianeptine felt like. >> calls to poison control centers involving tianeptine have increased by more than 500% in recent years. now, the fda, in a new letter to health professionals, warns about the magnitude of the underlying danger of these products, urging consumers to avoid all products containing tianeptine, including those claiming to treat an ailment or disorder. >> i don't want any other mother to go through what i'm going through. >> christie terry says her son suffered from migrainese went to a gas station looking for something to soothe his symptoms, and wound up taking 12 of the 15 pills in the bottle of tianeptine. the bottle suggested only two pills a day. >> all i knew that he had took them pills for a headache, but i had no idea that they would have took his life. >> while it's technically illegal to have tianeptine in products in the u.s, doctors say companies are able to

will end a little early this year, closing out the end of the week. officials say the hope is to minimize the risk of humpback whales getting entangled in crabbing equipment. 24 whales got entangled off the california coast last year. the bay area crabbing season ended back in april. this thursday is juneteenth, commemorating the date in 1865 when enslaved people in the south learned of the emancipation proclamation. it only became a federal holiday four years ago. that was back in

2021. in san francisco yesterday, there was a big party in the bayview to celebrate juneteenth and father's day. families gathered at gilman park for amusement park rides, vendors, as well as a concert and car show. organizers say the bayview is experiencing a cultural and economic revitalization. >> it's humbling. we got the whole community out here. they say bayview, man, but we got the whole city out here. you know what i'm saying? because it's all love. it's all unity.it's showing love to the fathers, to the community. and juneteenth. man. give it back. remember where we came from. remembering the sacrifices that were made for us to be able to be here. >> the museum of african diaspora and five point, the developer behind the future candlestick redevelopment, sponsored the event. the holiday was also celebrated early in the east bay at the 38th annual berkeley juneteenth festival. south berkeley businesses and residents started the celebration in 1987 to promote community pride and bring people together. >> this is something that's brought to us where we all come
