likely to be. >> reporter: it's claimed trenton astin climbed over the wall and went directly to the mayor's home, knocking on the door. the mayor not answering after he looked at the ring doorbell video and observed an unknown male. prosecutors claimed he had a taser in his pocket and planned to confront paul young about crime in the season. police later found that taser, rope, and duct tape in the suspect's video. mayor young posting, "today's climate, especially after the tragic events in minnesota and the threats my wife and i often receive online, none of us can be too careful." u.s. congressman max miller from ohio says he was targeted this week driving on a highway. >> some unhinged, deranged man decided to lay on his horn and run me off the road when he couldn't get my attention to show me a palestinian flag. not to mention "death to israel," death to me, that he wanted to kill me and my family.

>> reporter: tonight, police arresting 36-year-old faris hamden for allegedly threatening miller and his family, saying he made anti-semitic slurs against miller, who is jewish. these incidents on the heels of those horrific shootings in minnesota that left two dead. authorities say the alleged killer disguising himself as police, wearing a here realistic latex mask. senator john hoffman and his wife yvette ambushed at their front door. trying to protect his family, they say the senator lunged at the gunman. each of them shot at least eight times. their daughter hope rushed to shut the door and called 911. the hoffmans saying, "without hope, we wouldn't be here right now." david, the hoffman family grateful that hope saved their lives. in response to this toxic and increasingly dangerous political environment, congressional leaders holding urgent meetings this week to discuss ways to improve security. david? >> david: try to bring the temperature down across this

country. pierre thomas, thank you, pierre. breaking news after that arrest of a demonstrator, the columbia graduate student arrested in front of his pregnant wife as the trump administration cracked down on pro-palestinian demonstrators on campus. tonight, a judge new ruling that he must be released, months after his arrest. here's aaron katersky. >> reporter: it was the arrest at columbia university in front of his pregnant wife that made national headlines. >> he's not resisting. >> reporter: and tonight, after more than three months in federal custody, columbia graduate and green card holder mahmoud khalil is set to walk out of an immigration jail in louisiana, a federal judge granting release on bail, ruling the trump administration was punishing him over his pro-palestinian speech. of course, the judge said, that would be unconstitutional. the judge also rejecting the government's movement that khalil represented a flight risk. >> this is a movement, an anti-war movement. >> reporter: the administration accused khalil of fomenting anti-semitism during demonstrations on the columbia campus last year, which his

a grand jury indicting her husband, barry on charges of murder. her husband pleaded for her return in this video. >> no questions asked. however much they want. i will do whatever it takes to get you back. i love you. i want you back so bad. >> reporter: a year later, barry morphew was arrested and charged with her murder. but just days before trial, the charges were dropped. morphew's daughters, macy and malley, standing by their father, sitting down for an interview with abc news. >> we just know our dad better than anyone else. and we know he was not involved in our mom's disappearance. >> reporter: and barry later asked if he was involved. >> absolutely not. it's very hurtful to lose your reputation and your integrity. >> reporter: suzanne morphew's remains were found in a shallow grave. police say an autopsy found traces of sedatives and tranquilizers. according to the new indictment, police found a dart or tranquilizer rifle along with a nude dell cap in the dryer in the home. investigators say at the time of the murder, suzanne had been

having a secret affair and discussed plans to divorce barry morphew with her close friend. barry morphew maintaining his innocence. tonight, he's in custody in arizona, where he was arrested on the murder charge. prosecutors seeking his extradition back here to colorado, david. >> david: mola lenghi, thanks to you. we're hearing from the jurors who acquitted karen read of murdering her boston police officer boyfriend. why they found her not guilty. their reasoning right here tonight. here's stephanie ramos. >> the defendant not guilty or guilty? >> not guilt reserve. >> reporter: tonight after carne read was acquitted in the killing of her police officer boyfriend john o'keefe, jurors describing how they reached that decision. >> i just realized there was too many holes that we couldn't fill. and there's nothing that put her on the scene, in our opinion, besides just dropping john o'keefe off. >> reporter: our affiliate speaking to juror number 11, paula prado, a lawyer from brazil, who says she initially thought read may be guilty of manslaughter but changed her
