alert weekend. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley. where several days into this dangerous fire weather. and it's about to get worse for parts of the bay area. let's begin with abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel. she's tracking it for us. sandhya. >> yeah. dan. the start of summer. strong, gusty winds continuing. let me show you some live pictures from our tower cameras. and you will notice that we do have some shaky cameras. the trees are blowing around. winds right now gusting to 32 at sfo, 33 at half moon bay. going hour by hour. over 40 mile an hour. winds there at point reyes at midnight. heading into tomorrow morning, winds decreased just slightly, but then they really increased back up again. we're looking at 47 even 50 mile an hour wind gusts at times. so this is going to spell critical fire weather conditions for solano county, where a red flag warning will go up at 11 a.m. tomorrow until sunday morning. northerly winds which are really drying 10 to 20, gusting 30 to 40 with low relative humidity, will mean any

fires that develop are going to quickly spread. definitely stay aware as these winds could prove to be dangerous. as we head into tomorrow afternoon, you'll notice inland areas are facing high fire danger. even some spots very high fire danger. dan, i'll be back with a full look at the forecast as to what you can expect for the first weekend of summer. >> okay, sandy, thanks a lot. we'll check back in in a few moments after leaving some people in the dark for days. p-g-and-e's is scaling back power shutoffs this weekend. take a look at this outage map tonight with those planned shutoffs due to a fire danger in pink. those are still active. the biggest impact right now is in the area between livermore and tracy. tomorrow's shutoffs would take place in the same area, but at a much smaller scale, from more than 600 customers to roughly 60. p-g-and-e's shut off the power in one livermore neighborhood today after some tree branches hit a power line. the company says it's trying to leave as few people in the dark as possible, while still keeping its equipment from starting fires.

>> that's all by design. we have been working to underground lines. we've also hardened the lines that are above ground and the equipment that's above ground, and we're able to sort of narrow things down. >> the shutoffs in alameda county could continue through sunday. p-g-and-e's community resource center offers kits to help people through these outages. and we're following some breaking news tonight in fremont. there is a heavy police presence tonight on mission boulevard between walnut avenue and stevenson boulevard. our crew at the scene says police are asking someone to come out of a home, but the swat team left about 20 minutes ago. we will stay on top of it for you. meantime, police in san francisco are searching for two children missing for nearly 24 hours. 14 year old deandre jones, junior and ten year old leonardo henderson were last seen at about 1130 last night on treasure island, 24 hours from about now. police believe the two friends may have been heading to san francisco on

muni. the younger boy is considered at risk, authorities say, due to his age and behavioral challenges. certainly, if you have seen these boys, please contact sfpd immediately so they can get them back home safely. new at 11 a san jose police officer is in jail tonight under investigation in a case of alleged family violence. records show the officer was booked into jail on wednesday, held on $200,000 bail. our partners at the bay area news group report the officer is accused of firing his gun inside his ex-girlfriend's home in morgan hill and assaulting his fiancee's younger daughter. san jose police tell us the officer is on administrative leave and that the department is cooperating with investigators. the pro-palestinian activist at the center of a deportation fight is going back home to his family. mahmoud khalil was released from an ice detention facility in louisiana after more than three months in custody. the trump administration sought to deport

him amid a crackdown on student activism. mahmoud was arrested in march in front of his pregnant wife and missed his graduation at columbia university. a judge ordered that he be released today, and the white house plans to appeal. and tonight, the trump administration is taking aim at california once again, this time threatening funding over a sex education program. the department of health and human services says the program is not compliant with federal law, citing content about gender identity. abc seven news reporter tara campbell has reaction. >> the trump administration is taking aim at a sex education program aimed at helping transgender and non-binary kids, giving california 60 days to get rid of content, teaching students about gender identity. warning a failure to meet the deadline could risk its funding. >> you know, this language is taken away. i think it creates more harms in these communities. i think it creates more division. it you're basically depriving a generation from

really understanding what these issues mean. >> in a letter sent to the california department of public health, the u.s. department of health and human services condemning the program, which goes into places like youth homeless shelters. the federal department stating in part, the trump administration will not tolerate the use of federal funds for programs that indoctrinate our children. the disturbing gender ideology content in california's prep materials is both unacceptable and well outside the program's core purpose. >> threatening to take away really critical funding that isn't just meant to support lgbtq students, but meant to reduce teen pregnancies, teen sti rates. >> governor newsom's office saying it is reviewing the letter and quote. to be clear, this is not california's k-12 sex education curriculum. the california personal responsibility education program, which receives barely $6 million in federal funding, provides comprehensive sexual

health education to adolescents via an effective evidence-based program model. >> you want to have inclusive language. you want to talk about transgender binary issues because it allows people to destigmatize any kind of beliefs or thoughts around it. >> this move comes on the heels of the supreme court upholding a tennessee law banning gender affirming care for transgender children. this week, the trump administration also cut funding to a suicide prevention hotline for lgbtq plus youth. tara campbell, abc seven news. >> hundreds of people protested tonight outside the federal building in san francisco over the iran-israel conflict. this group called for the united states to stop supporting israel and to not join in the military strikes that have been going on all week and continue. demonstrators also voiced their support for palestinians and immigrants. meanwhile, bombs are

lighting up the skies above both jerusalem and tel aviv. as israel begins a new wave of attacks against iran. european led diplomatic talks between israel and iran did not lead to any major breakthroughs today. abc news reporter zohreen shah has the latest on the conflict and the clashes within the trump administration. >> president trump today making it clear he is not aligned with the assessment from his own top intelligence official. >> what intelligence do you have that iran is building a nuclear weapon? your intelligence community has said they have no evidence that they are at this point. >> well, then my intelligence community is wrong. who in the intelligence community said that. >> your director of national intelligence, tulsi gabbard. >> she's wrong. >> just before israel launched its initial strikes against iran, gabbard made the unusual move of releasing a personal statement online. >> it's up to us, the people, to speak up and demand an end to this madness. we must reject this path to nuclear war. >> abc news has learned that the president chastised gabbard

dual citizenship. >> i finally had some time, so i started looking into it and it didn't look that hard. >> but the process became more challenging when yates attempted to ship three copies of her birth certificate to new jersey, where she was born, so the department of revenue could authenticate the documents before sending them back to her. >> i'm tracking it, and it's not. it's just sitting there at the new jersey facility. >> yates shared her tracking with seven on your side, which showed the shipment went from oakland to lathrop, california, back to oakland, then louisville, kentucky, before landing in secaucus, new jersey. >> so i called again, and they the person i got said it was damaged and destroyed. i thought they should have contacted me before destroying documents that are damaged. so i basically didn't believe them. >> last month, seven on your side reported on a lost guitar shipped via ups. ups gave the shipper several different explanations as to why the item was missing, including that the package was damaged beyond repair and all contents were destroyed and discarded. but

then the guitar turned up for sale on a guitar center website. >> i just had an intuition that the guitar was stolen and that it wasn't damaged and destroyed. >> after that report aired, two more viewers got in touch with seven on your side. mike lamarca was shipping a one of a kind motorcycle supercharger, and pam daniels was shipping an original painting by artist june chen aliman. both were told their shipments were missing and the boxes were discarded. >> i don't think it could disappear. it's not like it was a couple of loose bolts in the bottom of a box that fell out. i don't know how you lose something that's five feet by seven feet big. >> lamarca later found what he believes to be the same supercharger for sale on ebay. the seller told him, we buy lost freight from shipping companies. >> so maybe the box was torn open and missing some parts and ups sells them off. i don't know. at this point. >> ups wouldn't answer that question. writing in its latest statement to seven on your side quote, we are committed to providing reliable service and take any report of a missing package seriously. we're pleased to resolve these matters and

groups there are not very happy about it. >> you don't need to invest that much in the perimeter. people get out. there's not much waiting for them other than alligators and pythons. nowhere to go, nowhere to hide. >> this site is really important to friends of the everglades. it's actually the reason friends of the everglades was founded by marjory stoneman douglas in 1969 to stop what would have been the world's largest airport from being built right there. >> florida's attorney general doesn't have a cost estimate on his pitch. meantime, we haven't seen any movement on the trump administration plans to reopen the real alcatraz train. diplomacy seems to be rolling right along just fine. tonight, the mayor of lima, peru, posted a video of a visit this week to stockton, where he celebrated the first shipment from caltrans retired diesel fleet. the first batch left from the port this week. they're traveling by sea. caltrain is selling a total of 90 cars and 19 locomotives to peru, and expects to get around $6 million. it retired the

diesel fleet last year when it switched to electric power. today marks the end of the season for dungeness crab fishing in northern california. the last two open fishing zones were shut down by the department of fish and wildlife this evening. they're worried about humpback whales getting tangled in crab fishing gear. a zone from south of half moon bay to the sonoma mendocino border was closed in may for the very same reason. all right. as we talked about at the top, windy conditions, fire danger, fairly high this weekend. meteorologist sandyha patel is tracking that. and of course the seven day forecast. sandy. >> that's right dan. and we're going to have to hang on to our hats a few more days and definitely stay vigilant as a fire danger is elevated going into the first weekend of summer. here's a live view from our mount tam cam, and you can pretty much see why. it is a very windy view. bouncy camera checking out the sustained winds right now around the state, you'll notice 18 miles an hour in fresno, 20 at sfo, but those

gusts are actually stronger. and when we take a look at the gusts sfo reporting wind gusts of 32 right now. same thing with san mateo 30 at novato, a northwesterly wind, that wind at the higher elevations at this hour, 33 on pine mountain. mount eminem 3337 at hawkeye, going hour by hour here at midnight. you're still dealing with those windy conditions as we head into 7 a.m, 30 to about 36 mile an hour winds for the stronger locations and then the winds pick up. look at this 50 by the afternoon hours at point reyes, 31 san rafael, the windy weather will stick around through the evening hours, keeping that fire danger elevated. but for the first night of summer, summer started at 742 this evening from our tam cam. i just want to show you how gorgeous this sunset is. summer is here definitely, and you can see a little bit of haze in the air. certainly a colorful sunset tonight as we check out
