the fireworks off bay area streets as police make multiple busts. the plan to catch people shooting them off tonight on abc seven news at 11. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. >> right now, more than ever, it feels amazing to be in the space. >> it's just, like, really joyful to all be in community. >> this is what it's about. this is all we want to be able to do this. i don't think this is too much to ask. >> celebrating pride in san francisco. from the streets to the skies. good evening. i'm ama daetz. san francisco is kicking off one of its busiest weekends of the year, with massive crowds visiting one of the nation's largest pride events. san francisco is glowing with pride. tonight, several city landmarks are lit up with pride symbols from the skystar wheel at fisherman's wharf. how beautiful that is to city hall, to that laser beam down market street. >> three, two. one.

>> that is the moment they flipped the switch on those lasers, beaming together to make a four mile long pride flag. there was a special celebration beforehand that included a dj and drag performances. the lasers will be illuminated each night through the weekend. however, there is one significant tweak to this year's display because of the 45 foot tall our evolution sculpture. the lasers had to be moved, otherwise the woman would block them. couldn't have that. and on the other end of market street, the pink triangle is also glowing. tonight, atop twin peaks, volunteers put up spotlights bordering the beacon of pride. this is the 30th year of the pink triangle, originally used to identify gay men during the holocaust, organizers say it's important to see it reclaimed and just as bright as the pride lights down market. tonight's main event was the trans march and a massive crowd turned out people walking with a message for a safer and more loving world for transgender people. abc seven news reporter tara campbell spoke to marchers

about why this year's march feels more important than ever. >> a celebration and a clear message at san francisco's transgender march. >> i'm with my people, with my trans folks supporting us. you know we exist. no executive order can get rid of us, and we're not going away. >> thousands making their way from dolores park to city hall friday evening. >> a lot of people grooving and getting along. you know, this is. this is what it's about. you know, this is all we want to be able to do. >> i think it's a really strong statement of like, we're here, this is who we are. like, yeah, we're here for each other. like this community is not going away. and it's strong and joyful and defiant. >> this year, it's more important than ever to kind of come out and show support and show that we're here and remind people that we're here and not going anywhere. >> this year's march comes amid rising fears over the trump administration's attacks on the transgender community, in particular transgender children. >> i'm a trans therapist supporting trans youth and families, and my wife is a medical provider supporting trans youth. we're noticing an

uptick in mental health crises because people are being told that they don't deserve to live. so we're definitely seeing an uptick of trauma, anxiety, depression, not only in trans youth, but in their families. so now more than ever, we need to come together. trans people have always existed. we're still going to, and we deserve joy, just like anyone else does. >> i think we all are the same, and i think we deserve the same rights as everybody because we're humans. we all have a heart. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. >> tonight's pride festivities included the annual drag me to front street block party. it's a free event that starts with a drag show and ends with a dance party, plus plenty of food and drink. and because it happened in san francisco's front street entertainment zone, people could take their alcohol to go. over at chase center tonight, the golden state valkyries hosted their inaugural pride game. fans could take a picture to show off their pride. there is also entertainment and programing celebrating the lgbtq plus community. as for how the

valkyries did on the court, sports director larry beil will have highlights later in sports. a busy night of pride events and the party is just getting started. so here's a run through of the jam packed weekend ahead. the san francisco pride celebration kicks off saturday at civic center plaza. the two day music fest starts at noon, featuring hundreds of artists and exhibitors. saturday is also the dike march, the first organized rally since 2019. people will pack dolores park starting at 11 a.m. the march steps off at 5 p.m, then sunday, of course. it's the main event, the san francisco pride parade. hundreds of thousands of people will pack downtown to cheer on san francisco's lgbtq community. the route runs from beal to eighth street and ends with a celebration outside city hall. keep an eye out for street closures and muni reroutes. abc seven is the exclusive broadcast partner of the parade. you can watch it live sunday morning starting at 1030 right here on abc seven and wherever you stream abc seven news. and how

pride flag colors in honor of the events that are happening. and of course, for the 55th anniversary of pride events. i'll be back to let you know about some changes that are coming in just a few minutes. >> okay. thank you. sandhya. one week out to the 4th of july and police are busy busting illegal fireworks. police seized thousands of pounds of fireworks across multiple cities this week. abc seven news reporter lauren martinez breaks down the plan to catch people shooting off illegal fireworks in san jose. >> more than 3,000 pounds of illegal fireworks and homemade explosives are now off san jose streets. on friday, police announced a series of raids and arrests. >> in the june 23rd operation that we conducted. the ieds that we located contained hundreds, if not thousands of times more explosive powder than legally allowed. >> in one case, undercover officers posed as buyers. that investigation led to the seizure of 1,300 pounds of dangerous fireworks and explosives that were in a storage unit off west capitol expressway. officers

also have a plan to catch people setting off illegal fireworks. san jose fire says police are already deploying drones to be on the lookout. >> they will be strategically in areas already they will be launching. if they see fireworks, they can zoom uh. they actually can move very quickly over uh- neighborhoods and start to observe. they will be taking video. >> on thursday. san francisco police officers found rockets, barrel bombs and hundreds of other illegal fireworks that were inside a stolen u-haul in alameda. a tip led police officers to the county's largest fireworks seizure so far this year. more than 1500 fireworks were found in storage units. some boxes had the words threat to society printed on them. we spoke with deputy chief mark shumate with the santa clara county fire department. >> over my 22 years, it's gone from, you know, firecrackers and bottle rockets, that sort of thing. that's what we used to see when i was first hired. and

now you're getting the big ground launched up fireworks. >> he said it's not just the fire danger they pose, but the injuries they can cause. deputy chief shumate says leave it to the professionals. >> they're everywhere around. i mean, there's really no excuse to not go to a show if you really want to see some fireworks. >> san francisco, antioch, san jose and mountain view are just some of the cities with professional shows in the south bay. lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> a judge declared a mistrial today in the case against an oakland man accused of stabbing two uc davis students to death. a jury found carlos dominguez dominguez not guilty of first degree murder in the 2023 attacks. but jurors couldn't agree on a second degree murder. after nine days of deliberations, prosecutors argued dominguez was angry about being dismissed from the school and a breakup with his girlfriend when he killed two people and injured a third. dominguez claimed he was suffering from untreated schizophrenia, telling the jury he killed them but didn't think

they were real people. >> it's been quite difficult for everyone involved, not just me. it's very graphic, it's very jarring. it's very emotional for everyone, the jury. i mean, even if you don't have a personal connection to the people who lost their lives. >> a new trial for the second degree murder charges will start on july 24th. despite his acquittal on first degree murder charge, dominguez is expected to remain in custody ahead of the new trial. new at 11 governor newsom signed a new state budget today with one big catch the entire $321 billion spending package goes down the tubes. if lawmakers don't approve of an infrastructure plan and housing measure on monday, they are on a very tight deadline. with the state's fiscal year set to begin july 1st. the housing measure seeks to fast track the construction process. the state is facing a $12 billion deficit. the budget relies on cuts to health care for undocumented immigrants to close that gap, also making cuts. stanford the university says it has to trim

>> governor newsom is suing fox news. he's accusing the network of defamation for how it covered a phone call between him and president trump. and as reporter josh haskell explains, the amount the governor is suing for has a bigger meaning. >> mr. president, when is the last time you spoke with governor newsom? >> a day ago. >> that was june 10th, when president trump was asked about the ongoing immigration raids in los angeles. governor newsom responding on x there was no call, not even a voicemail. americans should be alarmed that a president deploying marines onto our streets doesn't even know who he's talking to. the night of june 10th on fox news, anchor jesse watters played an edited clip of trump and accused governor newsom of lying. the banner on fox news read gavin lied about trump's call. newsom is now suing fox news for $787 million. >> governor newsom is bringing this suit in part to make a legal claim, and i think in part to make a political claim. and you often see that when it comes

to defamation suits, i think newsom, like any other public official, is facing a bit of an uphill battle here. he has to show that there was a false statement of fact, and that it was made with actual malice. >> newsom's legal team says the governor will drop the suit if fox news retracts its claim, and waters gives him an on air apology. >> fox the murdochs the news at fox national needs to get its act together and act in an ethical way. they haven't in this instant, and they're dead to right on this lawsuit. it's crystal clear they crossed that line and they defamed me. >> in a statement, fox news said governor newsom's transparent publicity stunt is frivolous and designed to chill free speech critical of him. we will defend this case vigorously and look forward to it being dismissed. this lawsuit is similar to president trump's lawsuits against news networks. also for defamation. the amount of money

newsom is seeking is also the same amount fox paid dominion voting systems over the network's coverage of false vote rigging claims in the 2020 presidential election. josh haskell, abc seven news. >> one of the last two escapees from a jailbreak last month in new orleans has been recaptured. a domestic abuse and car theft suspect is back in custody after six weeks on the run. louisiana state police say a tip from a citizen led them to a home in new orleans today, where the man surrendered peacefully. he was among ten inmates who escaped from the orleans justice center on may 16th. more than a dozen people have been arrested on suspicion of helping the escapees. the sheriff's office is installing new razor wire and new locks at that jail. lululemon is taking costco to court over knockoffs. the athletic wear company claims some kirkland brand products are illegal copies of its clothes. the lawsuit points to several jackets and pants that it claims infringe upon lululemon's

trademarks. it cites news articles calling the kirkland products dupes, saying the similar designs could confuse customers. lululemon wants a court to force costco to stop selling the clothes. we reached out to costco tonight, but we have not heard back. investigators in southern california are looking into a brazen case of koi crime. they're searching for a thief who broke into a restaurant and took off with 85 fish. i said 85. surveillance video shows two men walking into the property in yucaipa over the weekend. the owner of the restaurant say that the suspect took the fish from a large pond outside. she says the koi have been there for more than 20 years. >> i hear on the on the cameras when he was talking about a specific fish. so in the audio you can hear the voices saying which one they were looking for. >> san bernardino county deputies arrested one of the suspects. they found five of the fish, but they think the thieves sold the other 80. well,

castroville artichoke center of the world sign is being replaced. construction has already started on the updated sign, which will be tailored to fit the historic downtown architecture. plans are to unveil it in fewer than two weeks, but now the city has to figure out what to do with the old sign. they're going to take it up at a meeting on july 15th. can you believe it? july. right around the corner. let's get a check of our weather as we start to get close to that new month. abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is here in pride this weekend. sandhya. >> yeah, and you know what? it really is going to be? beautiful weather for pride. i do want to show you from our sutro tower camera what it looked like on market street tonight as they started up the laser light show. just absolutely spectacular to see this. you know, it's kind of hard not to get distracted if you're driving, so just keep that in mind. really it is going to be nice weather for the parade on sunday 10:00. it will be perfect is what we'll call it. parading weather 59 degrees.

there will be some patchy fog around. bright skies for the afternoon. certainly will be milder. low to mid 60s heading into the 4:00 hour. here's a look at how hot it was today. got up into the low to upper 90s 93 livermore 95, concord 97. fairfield 37 degrees cooler in half moon bay. coming in at 60 today, which is our summer microclimates. what we expect around this time of year with the marine influence and some patchy fog. 70 in the city the first time this month. we've actually seen that in all of june 76th oakland 91, santa rosa 85, in san jose, still retaining some of the heat from earlier in the day. we've got a lot of 60s, even some 80s around brentwood, 70 up to the north. here's a look at live doppler seven right now. and there is some fog, but it is pretty limited at this hour. kind of want to show you the setup here. so high pressure brought us the heat today. it hangs around the high isn't directly over us, but it is out over the pacific. there is an

area of low pressure that's going to start to work its way towards the coastline. and as it does, it's going to provide enough moisture around some of our mountains in northern california monday that they just issued a fire weather watch for the mountains as they could see some dry lightning. so something to keep in mind. a beautiful view from our mount tam cam as we look at salesforce tower and the fog kind of shrouding the view there, but not shrouded from sutro tower. there's another view of the laser lights this weekend, perfect for pride events. a wide range of temperatures with hot conditions inland, mild at the coast, and early next week. we'll have some minor cooling to start off tomorrow morning. there will be some areas of fog around the coast and bay, and then you'll notice by noontime you're already in the 80s in many parts of our inland areas, getting up into the 90s by the afternoon. but don't worry, the coast will stay in the 60s, and later in the evening we'll hold that warmth away from the beaches. your morning temperatures, 50s, 60s. once again, there will be some fog around. it's there

the shark tank in san jose was filled with teal tonight, as the team hosted a party for the nhl draft. there were plenty of things for san jose sharks fans to experience. they could walk through the sharks head that the players skate through when they enter the rink. san jose mayor matt mehan was also there for a roundtable discussion. we caught up with him afterward. he was. he has big dreams for his city's hockey team. >> not only are the sharks committed for the next 25 years and hopefully beyond, but the city will be in a position to help make major upgrades to the facility and start to think about what comes next. what does a broader sports and entertainment district and experience in downtown look like? >> the city plans on finalizing the lease extension with the sharks in august. another sellout for the golden state valkyries, and they did not
