how installing a smart door bell can help you fight back against crime. /// now, nevada's first choice for news, this is 8 newsnow, weekend edition ((patranya bhoolsuwan)) > it's was a wet and rainy day today in the valley. the storm even resulted in some major damage to at least one home. clark county fire officials say lightning struck a tree... which caught fire and spread to a house. it happened around 3:00 this afternoon... in the las vegas country club estates. that's near desert inn and paradise. there were no people inside the home at the time... but firefighters did save two cats. damages to the home are estimated at about 200- thousand dollars. thanks for joining us tonight... i'm patranya bhoolsuwan. the chances of rain and lightning aren't over quite yet. mauricio marin is live from mccarran... where this storm system is causing travel delays... all over the southwest. but first let's check in with

have been delayed arriving and taking off. it's not just because of wet weather here but because of rain in california and arizona as well. looking at the flight status board...some flights coming in from san francisco and san diego were delayed from about an hour or but in some cases up to two hours. rain, low clouds and even wind were a factor for some delayed flights. right now the federal aviation administration's website shows delays are down to about 15 minutes or less. but we've gotten reports of flights in reno getting delayed and even cancelled because of the heavy snow fall up there. one passenger we talked with tonight says he's glad to finally be here. (( gage miller/flight delayed: "i guess the wind was so bad that like we got delayed an extra hour and a half to here las vegas and yeah when i looked at my phone there was thunderstorms here but now it's partly cloudy so it's pretty cool but definitely had to wait a little extra time in the terminal." ))

valley...the rain kept falling which kept roads sleek and slippery. driving around town...we saw a number of car crashes with nevada highway patrol troopers responding this evening. even a crash slowing down traffic near the spaghetti bowl that has since cleared. catch the criminals in the act. it's called ring video doorbell. valley resident nikolaus rotzinger caught someone taking a mail package from his doorstep three days after installing the technology. he's still amazed at how daring the suspect was to committ the crime in broad daylight.
