hotel are experiencing some problems with their slot machines. a viewer sent us these photos of the blacked out machines. we called the hotel to ask about the issue... and a manager simply told us "no comment". we'll update you as soon as we find out what caused the glitch. /// ((brian loftus)) > metro police are investigating two separate crashes... that killed two people. the first crash happned near washington and michael. police say an 18-year-old driver pulled out in front of a stop sign... and collided with a 19-year- old motorcyclist. the driver did remain at the scene... while the motorcyclist was taken to u-m-c, where he later died. police are investigating if speed was a factor: (( sgt. richard strader/ metro fatal detail: "the facts of the matter of this is that we have two people who shouldn't have been driving vehicles.//had they been doing what they were supposed to be doing which is not driving cars without people and not riding a motorcycle because they shouldn't have been, we wouldn't be standing here today. > a second crash was reported near eastern and tropicana... where a pedestrian was hit by a pick-up truck. police say the pedestrian was not in crosswalk... and was not crossing at an intersection. the victim was taken to the hospital where they later died. this was metro's 16-th and 17-th traffic fatalities in their jurisidiction. /// ((brian loftus)) ((kirsten joyce))

here in the valley -- vehicle thefts. so far this year, 970 cars have been reported stolen in metro's jurisdiction. the areas hit hardest saw a 10-percent increase from last year. police visited apartment managers... advising residents to be more careful. they warn simple things can easily be taken... like change, phones, purses, and wallets. police urge people if they see something suspicious, report it: (( sgt. fred haas/metro police: "if they see somebody walking by a car looking in the windows or checking the door handles please call so we can respond and check and prevent citizens from becoming victims in our valley." )) ((brian loftus)) police also urge you to always lock your cars... and take any valuables out to avoid temptation. /// ((kirsten joyce)) > a tour helicopter in hawaii suddenly crashed into the water... sending all five people on board to the hospital. witnesses who saw the crash say.. something looked wrong with the helicopter. they say it looked like the helicopter was about to touch

weather service in kansas city, missouri... is warning people to dispose their cigarettes properly... after this massive 50-acre grass fire. multiple fire departments were called to put the fire out. the fire line spread all the way up to the missouri river. thankfully no one was hurt or injured... but a witness nearby the fire... watched as these two fire tornadoes spun up.

((kirsten joyce)) > there could be a break in a disturbing case of animal cruelty. several ducks and swans were killed in the desert shores community last november. the group "nevada political action for animals" says... a teen may be responsible for the killings. 8 news now confirms there is movement in the case. concerned residents are very passionate about the birds... and say they're looking forward to getting more answers about the deaths: ((yolanda shaner/desert shores resident: they are not just animals. they know, they love us, they come to us and we just love em. they have feelings. why should they be killed? they're not harming anyone. )) ((kirsten joyce)) yolanda shaner says her husband and other residents..

henderson. the second place they went to... was the bureau of reclamation office in boulder city... where leavitt works. and finally... law enforcement went to a las vegas accounting firm.. on sunset near durango. ((brian loftus)) the i-team has learned through law enforcement sources... that one focus of the probe is a contract.. to manage the sale of electricity from the hoover dam. no one has commented yet on this investigation. /// ((sherry swensk)) > there were at least three avalanches in the sierra nevada mountains... right after the rain and winds rolled into the valley. one avalanche buried cars in the alpine meadows area of northern california. three people had to be pulled from their cars by emergency responders. fortunately, no one was hurt.... neither of the other two avalanches caused serious damage. drivers in the area had to throw the chains on their tires to make it through the mountains. ///
