((kirsten joyce)) >> and i'm kirsten joyce alonso perez's escape from the north las vegas police department gained national attention and had law enforcement across the valley searching for him. north las vegas police tell us perez was arrested near charleston and pecos. witnesses say the arrest came

handcuffs last week when he was left alone in an interview room inside the north las vegas police department. he then stole a work truck that was later found east of downtown las vegas. one neighbor saw tuesday's capture unfold: neighbors describing a tense scene tonight... police drawing assault rifles, demanding perez to surrender. ((>> neighbor: "they came out with assault rifles. they blocked off the street. they were screaming for perez to come out of the house. we have you surrounded. they arrested two people but let them go." )) ((kirsten joyce)) shooting and killing 31-year-old mohammed robinson outside a mcdonalds restaurant on pecos and las vegas boulevard august 27-th. perez is held without bail at the clark county detention center ./// ((brian loftus)) metro police are searching for the people responsible for the deaths of two people who were shot outside a las vegas apartment complex. metro tells us the shooting happened at the avery park apartments near torrey pines and smoke ranch. when they arrived on scene, officers found two men shot to

trauma where they later died. one resident whose grandchildren were playing outside says he thought the shooting was fireworks. ((>> joe, resident: "the next thing you know, they come in and they say, no it's shots. turns out it's somebody that moved here about a week ago. somebody ran up to the side of the car where they parked and it looks like they took out two people. one in the front seat, one in the back seat." )) ((brian loftus)) >> his grandchildren weren't hurt. investigators say they aren't sure if this shooting was gang-related descriptions of the two suspects. anyone with information is asked to call crimestoppers at 385-5555. /// ((brian loftus)) we're learning more about an apparent murder-suicide in the anthem neighborhood of henderson. a 38 year-old man appears to have shot and killed his wife before turning the gun on himself. the clark county coroner has not yet identified the victims. police say the woman had a 14 year-old daughter from a previous relationship... and the couple had a 9 year-old daughter together. the girls were not home at the time of the shooting.

((>> jennifer hutt, neighbor "it's always been very safe and quiet and had great schools and it was really scary. makes you think twice about what's going on." )) ((brian loftus)) >> the woman was killed monday while she was moving out of her home on blythswood square. henderson police visited the home once in the past year over a family dispute. the coroner's office will release their identities once families are notified./// ((kirsten joyce)) several new metro police officers are ready to protect and serve the las yesterday afternoon... sixty men and women took an oath to protect our city. the recruits were recognized for their dedication and passion to serve their community after more than six months in police academy. despite the new recruits, metro says it still needs 300 more officers. ((kirsten joyce)) in north dakota protest the construction of a pipeline yesterday protesters used graffiti and attached themselves to machinery. their goal: to impede construction by making the costly project even more expensive. (julie richards demonstrator) "we're going to protect our water and we're going to protect our native women from these man camps, the drugs, the sex trafficking." ((kirsten joyce))

activists try to make those with the money behind this project sweat. protesters say they will, however, do as much as they can to try to make sure dakota access can't complete the pipeline. the demonstrators have reportedly shut down the pipeline at six separate work sites in the past week./// ((kirsten joyce)) green party candidate jill stein could face criminal charges. this after she appeared at that same protest in north dakota. stein used spray-paint to write "i approve this message" on the blade of a bulldozer. activists had invited her leave a message at the protest site. the morton county intends to press charges against stein -- including trespassing./// ((brian loftus)) more than 40-thousands college students are in limbo this morning... after itt technical institute shut down. yesterday, the for-profit college chain announced it would close all of its 130 campuses nationwide. the development came after a federal crackdown on the school's predatory practices. and after the department of education recently barred the school from enrolling new students who use federal aid.

small group of itt tech students gather outside the north las vegas campus after learning their school is permanently closed. more than 8-hundred students are affected by the closure of the two valley locations... most are low income single parents and military veterans. federal officials say students currently enrolled or who withdrew from the school within the last 120 days can apply to have their debt wiped away...a cost that would be covered in part, by taxpayers.
