how many parents were able to pick up their children's things--- and what's next for parents and students./// also, metro police continue to investigate the city's 118th murder. the man they're pursuing as a prime suspect and what led to the death./// and... things warmed up a bit this weekend but the triple digit temps won't last long. the earliest we can see double digit numbers. those stories and more next on the valley's news leader./// "now, live.hi ((sharie johnson)) the mecury mayhem continues for the fourth straight day. that's where we begin tonight. i'm sharie johnson. thanks for joining us. if you remember johnson junior high school was placed on a lockdown after a mercury scare. that lockdown then turned into a hazmat situation that lasted for several hours as students, staff and faculty were screened and decontaminated.

decontaminating parts of campus--- and screening the belongings that were left behind. our michael stevens was at the school earlier today following the e-p-a's latest statement on the investigation. michael what did we learn today? ((michael stevens)) >> sharie... the building has been off limits since wednesday... but today, some parents and their been off limits since wednesday... but today, some parents and their kids were allowed back to pick-up belongings like shoes... and backpacks left behind after mercury was detected inside. and walter johnson jr. high is busy again... busy with families picking up over 700 personal items tested by the environmental protection agency. high for almost 20-hours wednesday... after 9-students and 3-teachers tested positive for levels of mercury. ((alessia moore // student: it took hours for them to test everyone. i was just scared because i didn't know what was going to happen to me at that time. )) the clark county school district says they called 226 families giving them the okay to pick-up anything left behind... so far just over 100 bags have been retrieved. ((jocelynn crocker // parent: it's just sad because it's effecting all these people and mercury is a dangerous substance. )) the district says members from the e-p-a have been working around the clock... testing clothes... classrooms and buses... a tedious process that's kept these doors closed for days. and that's okay with some families. " )) ((sharie johnson)) >> valley high school was one of several schools that participated in this years reclaim your future walk. this year valley high s after high school freshman. to get students back on track early on who may have been missing class. it's the 7th year in a row they've hosted the event. ((sharie johnson)) family, friends and the community... said their goodbyes to the first woman elected as a clark county commissioner. today a celebration of life was held for thalia dondero. she was elected back in 19-74 and served on the commission for 20 years.

female politician... catherine cortez masto. dondero passed away last sunday. her kids say till the very end she was still working... and it's that drive her children want their mom to be remembered for: ((rob dondero // son of thalia dondero: my mom was one of those people who said, did you go out and get engaged? are you going to do something about it? because if you didn't, you can't sit back and complain -- so paving a way to get engaged and get involved was something i'm very proud that she did. )) oversaw a mccarran airport expansion and flood control projects. she was 96 years old./// ((sharie johnson)) metro police are searching for the man they say is respnsible for the cities 118th homicide. they say this man... 22 year old asa brown... shot and killed another man friday morning. investigators say brown got into an argument with another man at an apartment complex near maryland parkway and desert inn...

((sharie johnson)) the cease-fire deal between u-s and russia is expected to take effect in just two days. officials hope the deal will slow the deadly violence in syria. as don champion reports... secretary of state john kerry describes the plan as a turning point. bombs were still falling across syria...hours after the united states and russia announced a cease-fire deal for the war torn country.

bombing u-s backed rebels starting monday at sundown. the agreement would also allow much needed humanitarian aid to reach syrian towns like aleppo where 22-hundred people have died since july. secretary of state john kerry said the deal is a turning point. (sot john kerry, secretary of state) we're announcing an arrangement that we think has the capability of sticking but is dependent on people's choices. last week, president vladimir putin during the g-20 summit but the leaders failed to strike a deal. if the truce holds for a week, russia and the u-s will carry out coordinated air strikes against isis. the five year old conflict has taken its toll. at least half a million people have died and millions of refugees have been forced from their homes. for now, the deal allows assad to stay in power

people dressed up for the 5k at mountains edge exploration park .. to support candlelighters childhood cancer foundation of nevada. candlelighter's cause is something that really hits home for metro police captain james larochelle.. his 9 year old daughter, rosa was diagnosed with cancer... and today she got the chance to go out and see all the support from the community. the event raised more than 206- thousand dollars .. our very own morning anchor one of the co-hosts ((sharie johnson)) and fall is just around the corner .. and that means .. the harvest festival has returned to the valley. if you didn't make it today... you still have tomorrow to check it out. doors open at 10 am and it goes until 6. tickets are 9 bucks .. but you can save two dollars if you bring a can of food, baby formula, or paper products. the items will be donated to safe
