this morning. super typhoon meranti has already cut power to more than 200,000 homes on the island and wind speed are more than 200 miles an hour and the storm produced waves topping 48 feet. the typhoon could make landfall in china by tomorrow. three police officers in phoenix are recovering after a car rammed them down in a convenience store parking lot. surveillance video captured a driver slamming into the officers unprovoked, violent, and intentional. two officers had serious injuries but expected to be okay. the driver faces several charges, including attempted first-degree murder. two 65-year-old men are facing murder charges in california more than four decade after the crime. they are accused in the 1973 shotgun killings of two girls in a small town north of sacramento. the case was closed long ago, but a detective tracked the

$56,500 but lower than the great recession. the number of people in poverty did fall sharply. 2.4 million people found full-time work last. the price of oil made a slippery slope here on wall street. stocks fell more than 1%. the dow finished 258 points lower. the s&p lost 32. the nasdaq dropped more than 56 points. energy stocks led the decline after oil producers said the global glut will persist. wells fargo said it will ease the aggressive sales goals set for retail bankers. the change comes after workers were caught opening phony accounts to meet those targets. wells fargo will pay fines of $185 million in that case and the chief executive will be grilled next week by a congressional committee. congress fears that robots

a football player at the university of north carolina is charged with sexually assaulting another student. his accuser says she is going public with her allegations because police, prosecutors, and the school did nothing about it for seven months. the story from vinita nair. >> after i was raped i went to the hospital and gave an account of what i could remember. i was treated like a suspect. >> reporter: 19-year-old delaney robinson said the alleged accident happened at an on-campus apartment. she says she was there with a linebacker allen artis a linebacker from the university of north carolina she had must met. >> i was under the influence of alcohol and i was under age but does not give anybody the right to violate me. >> reporter: she says she was assaulted that night and a rape kit was administered. she gave statements to law enforcement and university police. almost seven months later, the university has not charged the athlete. according to the department of

assault cases on campus last year, a jumped to 273 this year and 200% increase. robinson says she is coming forward to push for change. >> i'm taking this public stand not for me but for the other students on campus who are not protected despite what the university says. >> reporter: cbs news did reach out to the football player for comment. he is not responding but the football coach has. he says i cannot comment on either the allegation o investigative process. we take these matters very seriously and are fully cooperating with the appropriate authorities. vinita nair, cbs news, new york. a rarity in syria. 24 hours passed without a single death blamed on the war between its president and rebels. international monitors said yesterday that the truce worked out by the u.s. and russia is holding. the u.n. is now trying to shift food and medicine to people in area cut off by the fighting.

central washington state is speaking out. carter evans has the strorp. >> reporter: -- story. >> reporter: in this fire, daniel lyon faced the unimaginable. in blinding smoke, the engine he was riding in crashed. >> all you see is flame. the intense feeling that your entire body is burning. >> reporter: he was the only one to make it out of the crash alive. daniel's parents dan and barbara vividly remember the phone call from another firefighter. >> the flames of hell. it was just -- wow. >> reporter: this is what daniel looks like a year after the fire, with burns over nearly 70% of his body. >> i mean, i thank god that i can still receive. >> reporter: his sight saved by these singed sunglasses and a watch working is another rem reminder.
