((kirsten joyce)) >> we sat down with the leader of boulder city in this previously recorded segment. ((brian loftus)) joined again by mayor woodbury, lets get right into our first question about the volleyball court at veterans memorial park volleyboall court with help of the eagle scout project. apparently the group shoveled and raked over 55t this is a great way to create a new and improved attraction. mayor rod woodbury: right, it's at our veterans memorial park in boulder city. it was really a community project. we had over 800 volunteers, 200+ man hours of work and moving that stuff around. it's kind of modeled after the volleyball court at sunset park. it used to be this rough sand in there where you'd have basically a kitty litter box and kids digging in there between little league games. it's going to be a great asset to our community
6:49 am
((brian loftus)) team effort! ((kirsten joyce)) with everybody helping, that's nice! mayor, recently there've been some development proposals and discussion about residential growth in slo-growth boulder city. what's the latest? mayor rod woodbury: as you know, we have slow-growth ordinances out in boulder city and because of i-11 and the unknowns about what's going to happen, the business community is a little alarmed about what do we do? do we grow? do we stay where we're at? then we had a developer propose a 640 acre master planned community recently, with what we're used to. so the discussion is alive out there. it's kind've the growth pains, maybe a little bit of an identity crisis, to just determine what we really want out in boulder city and where we're going to the future. ((brian loftus)) boulder city has a new finance director. tell us a little more about him and why the city brought him on. mayor rod woodbury: his name is hyun kim. he comes to us from wyoming, where he was basically the city manager, but he's a local.
6:50 am
looking forward to it. our prior finance director went to take a job in south carolina as a city manager there. mr kim comes to us with great accolades from wyoming. people person, great manager. we're looking forward to seeing where the future goes with him. ((brian loftus)) ((kirsten joyce)) and of course, it's about that time. we're talking holiday celebrations in boulder city. what do you have on tap? mayor rod woodbury: dec 1-3 is kind of our lineup there.. we start with the retelling of the journey of joseph and mary down to bethlehem and the nativity scene. on the 2nd, we have the christmas tree lighting and the 3rd we have our santa's electric night parade and pics with santa preceding that as well.
6:51 am
