3 schools in a northeast nebraska community are *off* lockdown at this hour.that lockdown put in place during a police manhunt in the knox county town of niobrara. 3 3 that manhunt began sometime this afternoon.we don't know much right now... only that a manhunt *is* ongoing in and around niobrara and that the schools *were* on lockdown.a district spokesperson tells siouxland news the students *have* been released and the schools taken off lockdown.the knox county sheriff's office has not released the description of who they are looking for... or what that person is wanted for.we'll hope to have more information for you later tonight on siouxland news. 3 a former sioux city band director is pleading not guilty to charges of sexting a student.34 - year - old lucas (surs - lee) sursely is charged with "sexual exploitation of a minor by a school employee."the former north high band director was arrested earlier this month.. just days after abruptly resigning.court documents say

15 - year - old student in his class about having sex with her... and admitted sending a picture of himself in his underwear.his trial is set to begin in april. 3 3 counterfeit cash continues to circulate in siouxland. this time... some even bigger bills.the south sioux city chamber of commerce is once again reminding business owners to take precaution when accepting $50 and $100 dollar bills. the bill on the top is fake... the one below is real. they're encoururing all local businesses to use a a special pen that can ensure which bills are "real"... and not fake. 3 3 a gas line break disrupted businesses in downtown sioux city this afternoon.construction crews working near the intersection of 5th and nebraska accidentally hit a one and a half inch gas line just after 1 this afternoon.rescue crews evacuated several businesses in the area because of the smell of gas. 3 "just for precautions we've had our monitors in the area reading.. looking for higher levels of natural gas and we

buildings here and secured the area"crews from midamerican energy quickly responded to fix the line. people were allowed to return to work a short t time later. 3 norfolk man is facing felony gun possession charges tonight.38- year- old kenneth smith of norfolk was arrested after police responded to a report of gunshots near the 300 block of south 6th street in norfolk last night.a search of his pickup found a rifle.. a 9 millimeter handgun... and a shotgun... as well as marijuana and hydrocodone pills in an unmarked bottle.smith is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession with intent to deliver marijuana and posession of a controlled substance. 3 3 president obama is taking new executive actions intended to curb gun violence.the president's gun control initiatives expands background checec on firearm sales s at gun shows and the internet... while requiring dealers to be licensed. it

community safer." in an apparent efefrt to combat recent gun violence, president obama used executive action to impose new restrictions on gun control. those restrictions: a 10 point plan, including requiring dealers who sell firearms on the internet and at gun shows to be licensed and conduct background checks. "anytime you buy a gun online, it is already legally mandated to go to a dealer."according to the national rifle association, gun laws in the tri-state area- iowa, nebraska and south dakota- "regulate" the sale, possession, and use of firearms and ammunition. president obama insists he is within his constitutional right to take the action bringing about more background checks."you can go online today and buy a gun, it's still going to come e me as a dealer rst and we're stilil going totorun the same background check you would do if you bought the gun here in store."iowa republican senator rick bertrand says the second amendment is a bipartisan issue. "both republicans and democrats that support the second amendment can agree

overreached." 3 president obama also wants to hire more than 230 additional b-i employees to help process background checks. as part of his push this week - he'll hold a town hall discussion on gun violence thursday. 3 3 texas senator ted cruz is another big critic of the president's plans.the republican presidential candidate was in siouxland this morning campaigning when the announcement was made.he offered this action at a campmpgn stop in onawa. 3 "you know this morning president obama is announcing new executive orders to try to go after our second amendment right to keep and bear arms, well i can tell you right now those executive orders are not worth the paper their printed on because when you live by the pen you die by the pen and my pen has got an eraser."cruz made another stop this afternoon in cherokee. he'll be at the de yager center at dordt college in sioux center tonight starting

3 some u-s senators from the tri-state region were also quick to offer their reaction.iowa republican joni ernst said "there are laws currently in place to prevent firearms from getting into the wrong hands and we must ensure that they are being enforced." "any further discussion about how best to respond to recent tragedies involving firearms should happen in congress." 3 3 nebraska republican ben sasse said "the president should be bigger than the condescending rhetoric and political cynicism we saw today. sadly, president obama is demonizing law- abiding gun owners and undermining the legislative process. 3 this approach will n n end heartbtbaking tragedies but it will poison public discourse." 3 3 and south dakota's mike rounds said "the executive actions the president announced today will make it more difficut for law- abiding citizens to legally obtain firearms and do nothing to fix the problem of gun violence. 3 criminals and terrorists aren't going totobey the law anyway. i will c ctinue to fight against the e president's endless attack on our 2nd

3 "sports, with sports director chris neyenhouse." 3 3 there's only ten teams in the entire country ranked higher in the naia division two women's basketball poll than briar cliff. and they're an underdog i itheir own city! such is the life of a charger when a trophy case across town houses last year's national championship shrine. tomorrow they get their chance to settle an argument on the court when they hop on hamilton boulevard and play at number two morningside. 3 of course the chargers are licking their wounds after only their third loss of the season over the weekend at number 14 concordia. morningside has the number one scoring offense in the gpac and they have a knack for getting to the boards with the top reboundind differential in the conference. they've owned this rivalry in mustang head coach jamie sale's tenure. he's 27-2 against briar cliff. today at practice i spoke with charger senior point guard
