ballots. but it appears most of the mainstream republican candidates, at least here in california. kimberly terry in pleasanton where a day-long tea party rally is just wrapping up. hello, kimberly. >> hello, diane. everyone is packing up and packing up their belongings. 20,000 people would be here today were estimates, it appears the number fell quite short of that. the event organizer says she's still counting 10 to 20,000 attendees. but when we arrived through numerous parts of the day, we saw maybe 2,000, 3,000 people here. those who were here were spirited and are in agreement when it comes to what they're looking for. that is a return to conservative values in america. many people claim today to hear tea party backed speakers which included gop candidates for

treasurer, secretary of state and state controller just to name a few. the high profile republican candidates for government and senate were not here. their campaign did set up informational booths. people we talked to say their movement is growing stronger and they hope to have a major impact on election day. >> the idea, the whole idea of the tea party is to get people out, take their rights back. it's pretty cool. >> we want to be with like minded people, and it's time that we get up off the couch and give our opinions, all these years we've been voting for the officials that we put into office, and all they've done is what they want to do, instead of what we want to do. >> the tea party claims no affiliation with any political party. the majority of candidates invited to speak today are republican, the organizer, the head of the pleasanton tea party says they haven't found any democratic candidates they can get behind. but she would really like to find one they can support based

on their fiscal conservative values. this is the last large event planned by the pleasanton tea party before the november election. members say they continue to grow in numbers it and hope to make a difference on november 2nd. live at the alameda county fair grou grounds. >> thank you, kimberly. arizona senator john mccain is is up for re-election in his home state. he spent this weekend in california trying to lend a hand to republican senate candidate carly fiore ina today. he spoke in san diego this afternoon. mccain told the crowd that fiorina's challenger barbara boxer tried to cut the military in iraq and afghanistan. no coincidence the focus is on the military. just a few days ago, senator boxer received the endorsement of the veterans of foreign wars political action committee. mccain said he was stunned by

that endorsement and lashed out at boxer. >> barbara boxer is the most bitterly partisan, most anti-defense senator in the united states senate today, i know that, because i've had the unpleasant experience of having to serve with her. >> by the way, fiorina served as an economic adviser to mccain. she was pulled from the front line when she told reporters that neither mccain nor sarah palin would be capable of running a company. palin is campaigning in southern california as well. the former vice presidential candidate appeared at a voter turnout rally. the top republican candidates did not show up to join her. palin and michael steele were the two big draws for the rally and thousands of people showed up. but meg whitman and carly fiorina skipped the event claiming they had prior engagements.

perhaps the biggest draws in the democratic party are in the bay area this weekend. that will be bill clinton and hillary clinton. the former resident is due to lead the rally tomorrow. yesterday, hillary clinton gave a speech in san francisco to the commonwealth club. she focused on technology and how it's changing the world and the bay area is leading the way. the movement to save california's landmark global warming law received a star powered boost today. james cameron pledged $1 million to fight proposition 23. prop 23 would suspend the global warming law until unemployment in california drops to 5.5% for four consecutive quarters. that's only happened three times since 1980. those behind prop 23 say the global warming measure will cost the state jobs at the worst

possible time. in making his donation, cameron joins the governor and environmental groups in supporting the law that is aimed at reducing greenhouse gases. pg&e says it will turn over hundreds of pages of internal documents related to the deadly gas pipeline explosion in san bruno. company leaders have agreed to give the documents to the head of the snait state senate investigations committee. the utility previously refused to turn over the paper because of the ongoing federal investigation. the documents include inspection reports and gas pipeline maintenance memos. it's unclear if pg&e will turn over the documents before tuesday's state senate hearing on the explosion. hundreds of emergency volunteers from across san francisco came together today to practice what they've learned. the volunteers spent three hours practicing skills such as search and rescue, caring for injured victims and setting up staging areas. the group is called nert, standing for neighborhood emergency response team.

organizers say it's no coincidence today's drill comes on the eve of the anniversary of the lolaprieta earthquake. >> every april, which commemorates the 1906 earthquake, and every october, we focus as the big refreshers to everyone. throughout the year we offer other trainings and skills, but those are the two big ones. >> the citywide drill has been held since 1992. more than 20,000 people have been trained to step in and help in the event of a disaster. the training is free and opened to anyone interested. giants fever is in full effect tonight. right now there may be one place in the bay area you can find an equal number of phillies fans and giants fans in close proximity to each other. that's at kisar pub in san francisco. the pub is packed with baseball fans watching the teams compete, and the national league

championship series. the pub has become a favorite hangout for fans of the phillies and it's where many of them watched their team win the world series in 2008. today san francisco giants fans are there too, and it's making for what you might consider a spirited atmosphere. >> outside this bar you wouldn't know there was a playoff game going on right now. inside, it's a little different. >> the winner of the giants sev seven-game series against the phillies advance to the world series. we'll have full coverage from philadelphia tonight at 11:00. a late inning curveball could cost the city of san jose a chance to lure the oakland a's. and the problem, money? the city may not have the money to secure the last few parcels to build a downtown ballpark. for over a year there's been talk of moving the a's to san jose. they've been buying up land in preparation for construction. now there's word the

walnut creek. even with the arrests, women may still be in danger. today the complex said security officers are still checking every car driving into and out of the complex. sheriff's deputies arrested william yoakum in connection with the sexual assault that happened last month. another man was arrested in august in connection to three other attacks. here's a sketch of a third man. detectives want to talk to about another reported attack that happened in that same complex a couple weeks ago. that assault, the victim said she fought off the attacker after he tried to push her into her apartment 37. >> a south bay man suspected of committing lewd acts against a child is behind bars tonight. his bail is set at $1 million. 40-year-old john keith wilson's alleged victim is under the age of 14. officers arrested wilson this week in response to an anonymous tip. they have yet to release details of the case, though. detectives served search

warrants at wilson's home in los altos and another home. a medical marijuana club in the bay area is it facing charges of cashing in on the crop. medical marijuana angels care collective was raided on friday on suspicion they were pulling in a profit. the team seized 100 pounds of pot plants and two freezers full of marijuana edibles. they froze a $75,000 bank account linked to the club. this is the third task force raid in santa clara county in two weeks. what does beverly hills smell like? how you can get a whiff thanks to a new product. and the san francisco giants may be far away from home, but at least we know they're eating well. the sights, sounds and smells of philadelphia. one of my favorite cents, fresh rain.

getting ready for the marathon tomorrow. later spots for the morning, and then as you go through your run, lose some of those as we start to warm back up. next shot as we head over to the east side of the inland valleys, beautiful. as we look at mid to high level clouds and same story for the south end of the bay. the weather headlines moving forward, cloudy, we've been talking about mist, drizzle, 40s and 50s so a chilly night, feeling just like fog. tomorrow a scattered shower or two, mainly across the santa cruz mountains and across the hills closer to the range. if you're headed to the sierra, prepare for thunderstorms, of course, get out of the way of the lightning strikes, take cover if you're going to be doing hiking or camping this weekend. that will be the story through monday. and then after that, we'll start to dry out a bit. until next weekend. 55 in san francisco right now, we saw that cold picture. 62 in san jose, 71 in concord. here is the wind coming through the golden gate.

85 miles per hour in the past hour. northwest at 12 miles per hour in livermore. this is the little spin right here, this is what we're watching, this is moving closer to us. it's going to park just off the coast. we have that wraparound moisture, counter clockwise rotation. that picks up the moisture just to our south. watch for a couple showers again. mainly to the south into the central valley and sierra nevadas where they will get thunderstorms tomorrow. we have the forecast for tomorrow, 60s yet again, these are low and mid-60s only into the 70s. 58 for san francisco again tomorrow, redwood city 64, the warmer spots just touching the upper 60s close to concord, orando livermore. once you get into the south end of the bay, 68 in morgan hill and the same for sonoma and napa with mid-60s there.

inspired by pablo sandoval. and right there, fear the beard, of course. yeah, we got it going on. tailgating rules are changing at many universities around the country, including at usc. today was the first day of the changes that include no alcohol, no loud music, no open fire and no drinking games. what do you do at the tailgate exactly? >> the changes are because this semester, usc has set a record for alcohol related incidents and hospitalizations. of course, students say the restrictions aren't really going to stop them. >> whether it's games -- if you were drinking regardless, i don't think -- i don't think it will stop people from drinking. >> the loud music was a pain in the neck. >> school leaders did admit it will take a little while for fans to get used to the new rules and enforce them as well. who needs a tailgate? >> plenty fired up today.
