newspaper executives saying today they welcome a lawsuit from donald trump. raj? >> you can watch the clip of michelle obama and read what people are saying about her comments right on our facebook page. now to our other top story tonight, rain is on the way. just about six hours out from now, for the first time this season, the bay area is expected to get some significant rainfall. we have microclimate weather team coverage tonight. chief meteorologist jeff ranieri is in the weather center tracking the storm's path. but we begin with damien trujillo, live in san jose where crews are preparing for what's to come. damien? >> reporter: that's right, janelle, this is the silver creek behind me. crews have been working to shore up this water way for quite some time now. crews have been fanning out across the valley hoping to minimize potential damage from the start of the rainy season. they've spent the last two months pulling debris from san jose storm drains. the junk inside is what causes

street flooding during the rainy season. >> it creates that plug in the storm main, the storm laterals, and it allows water to build up on the street, which is a hazard to pedestrians and bicyclists. >> reporter: crews have cleared 14,000 of these storm drains since august. they say homeowners can do their part by taking care of the leaves, especially now that those leaves are beginning to fall. >> the leaves, you know, along the street, the gutter line, and the yards, generally when the rains come, the leaves are the first things that go down the storm drains. >> reporter: resist here in willow glen say they take turns clearing leaves but are glad that the professionals are also helping out. >> i'm very pleased, i'm a long-time -- because i'm old -- believer in prevent medicine. i'm glad the city feels the same. >> reporter: along the silver creek, digging continues to continue the water way's flood project. residents remember rising waters several years ago and are glad

something is being done to avoid a repeat. the valley water district is also performing creek maintenance, clearing debris and trash from along the creek bed to make sure there's no backups or floods when the rain begins. i'm damien trujillo, nbc bay area news. >> damien, thank you. so it's going to be hit the north bay first. homeowners and businesses are bracing for flooding and possible power outages. pg&e spent much of the day in mill valley cutting back vegetation to prevent wind-whipped branches coming in contact with power lines, the key reason for power failure. >> that's why we do this every single year, we don't wait for a storm, we do it constantly throughout northern and central california. >> pg&e says it's important to steer clear of hanging or downed power lines because they're likely to still be energized. let's check in with chief

meteorologist jeff ranieri. when will this rain arrive? >> it looks like by tonight. we're not expecting major flooding throughout the bay area. river levels are not expected to exceed their banks. but it will be the first significant storm of the season. atmospheric river is a stream of moisture in the pacific and it will help boost rainfall totals as the storms move in. you can see the rain falls off to the north, 250 miles away. we'll begin to see a few showers develop by 11:30 tonight in middletown, calistoga, maybe a spotty showers in san francisco. it's all about tomorrow morning's commute, right in marin, sonoma counties, at 6:30 a.m. again, for tomorrow morning, the storm is expected to arrive. roads of course will be slick. certainly throughout the bridges, winds 15 to 30 miles per hour. make sure you give those windshield wipers a quick check if you can, we've had hot

minutes. police captured one man on school property hiding near the gym. they found the other nearby in someone's yard. we now have a face to go with the arrest video you saw last night only on nbc bay area. he's accused of exploiting a minor. he was found by the south bay's human trafficking task force. our cameras were there when the sting went down. we were the only tv station there as the feds and local law enforcement used a san jose hotel room for their sting. the goal is not to prosecute young women for prostitution, but to interrupt the cycle of human trafficking. the task force used this tactic in the days leading up to the super bowl at levi stadium. a south bay pot shop says it's finally ready to pay up after refusing to pay taxes for

>> chief meteorologist jeff ranieri joins us now. i did what you said, covered the patio furniture and prepped the house ahead of the rain. >> we have an important timing change, though, as the storm system is slowing down a little bit. look, everybody is still going to get wet weather. it's just going to come at different times tomorrow morning. i want to give you an overview first. i think it's important to do this, because a lot of you have weekend plans. we've been talking about the chance of rainfall. and this is a really easy way to just kind of segment it out for you. friday morning our storm system moves in. saturday night through sunday, another wave of wet weather and potentially for monday morning as well. three different chances of rainfall expected over the next four days. now, the storm system that we're monitoring right now is just off to the north. we have cloud cover increasing. any sign of rain is still 270 miles away, so we're still waiting on that of course to get here. as we get you into tomorrow

morning's forecast, what i really want you to focus in on is the fact that the north bay and the san francisco area has the best chance of wind and rain for tomorrow. early on in the commute in the south bay, you actually still may be dry the way it looks, and 58 degrees to start. let's bring you the most important thing. that's the timeline. you can really figure out what's going to be happening over the next 24 hours. you can see for tonight, a few spotty showers, middletown, calistoga, santa rosa, point reyes, nothing too heavy right now. check out how the colors intensify, heavier pockets expected at 7:00 a.m. marin, sonoma counties, mainly contained there for a lot of the commute tomorrow. maybe also some showers down the peninsula as well. you can see a good section of the east and south bay will be dry. slowly push to go the south. by 9:30, across contra costa and alameda counties. we've seen it slow down by three

hours. san jose may not actually start to get some accumulating rainfall until we hit about 10:30 through 11:30 tomorrow morning. folks in san jose may actually have a dry commute in the morning but eventually that rainfall will get to you. by evening hours, we have scattered rainfall that will be less here in the forecast. let's get you to the totals. we haven't seen too much change on this for the south bay. a quarter to a half inch. san francisco to the north, a half inch to one inch potential. we may see slightly higher totals than this, the way the subtropical moisture is moving in. again, that's a real good idea of what we can expect. temperatures in the 60s across the board tomorrow. you'll need the jacket and also the umbrella. on the extended forecast, we have that chance of rain again saturday evening. and then that rain will linger through sunday, the way it looks at this point. for the interior valleys, temperatures stay cool all the way through monday's forecast. and then we are back up to 83
