"the mummy," this is a story about a 2,000-year-old corpse that is brought back to life whenever somebody says the ancient cursed word covfefe. [ laughter and applause ] >> steve: covfefe. >> jimmy: i think -- >> steve: chili covfefe. >> jimmy: let's get to some news here. a highly classified document was just leaked, and it suggests that russia may have hacked into our voting system before the election. [ audience oohs ] you can tell the report was highly classified because it was marked, don't show trump. [ laughter and applause ] actually, it turns out russia actually hacked the company that makes our voting machines. which explains why when anybody who pressed on hillary clinton heard a voice go, "try again. [ laughter and applause ] try again." i saw that the nsa contractor who leaked the document is a a woman named reality winner.

[ laughter ] when he was asked if he had any contact with the leaker, trump said, "no, i'm totally out of touch with reality." [ laughter and applause ] of course, trump's been causing a lot of problems with the things he's tweeted recently, but the white house says he isn't concerned with being politically correct. then they clarified their statement and said, he isn't even concerned about being correct. [ laughter and applause ] and you go, that makes more sense. did you see one of our favorite shows "the bachelorette" last night? did you see it? [ talking over each other ] i want to talk about -- you have a movie called "american made" coming out september 29th. and i just saw the trailer, went on the internet like two days ago, and it just lit on fire. so, congrats on that. >> thank you very much. >> jimmy: and that is a -- [ cheers and applause ] doug liman? >> doug liman, who directed "edge of tomorrow," and "borne" and "mr. and mrs. smith." >> jimmy: what is that film about? >> it's just based on a true story of barry seal. and it's really kind of a -- it's a comedy, and it's drama. and there's amazing kind of flying stuff in there. we -- you know, both aviators. we did our own flying. but characters outrageous in

the world, in the time, it's just outrageous. it takes place in the '70s and the '80s. it is a wild story. it's wild. wild. >> jimmy: speaking of a wild ride, "the mummy," was fantastic. i recommend imax to go see it. i mean, either way, go see it in theaters. but it was like -- it's a giant film. >> thank you. >> jimmy: and you do one of these scenes in there, it's a a zero gravity. >> yeah. >> jimmy: and you're just kind of floating around in the back, and wrestling, and flipping -- this is my acting. this is what -- [ laughter ] this is why i don't -- this is why i don't get cast in any movies. like it's the mummy! it's the mummy, it's the mummy! [ light laughter ] that's why i'm a better audience than i am an actor. [ light laughter ] [ talking over each other ] yeah, they're coming at me and scaring me, yeah. but it really is -- >> a whole universe that universal, its dark universe -- these films, i remember seeing as a little kid in black and white on television. and they're films from the '30s. and it's these monsters, that are the universal -- that established universal pictures as a viable film

company. these are blockbusters, >> jimmy: "frankenstein," and "dracula." >> "mummy," "frankenstein," "dracula," so they have this idea to create a universe of their monsters for a modern audience. and they came to me and asked me to be a part of it. and this is the -- an origin story and really, the first step into the dark universe. gets your toe in the water and you'll see, it's just got -- just big large-scale action, adventure, comedy and scares. >> jimmy: yeah, so -- >> kind of like that's what they wanted, everything. okay, well, let's do it. >> jimmy: and it's also -- i've got to say, in such a a tom cruise way, you -- when you come on to the screen for the first time, so rad. i know, you don't feel it, because you are tom cruise, but you hear your voice -- [ laughter ] you hear your voice, and you're in a scarf, and then you just hear your voice, you go -- that's tom, this is tom. [ light laughter ] this is before i was scared of the mummy, like -- and then you pull the thing off, and you go -- and pull the scarf off, and i'm like, "yes!" that's tom cruise. that's why i paid the money for it. that's a movie star in there. and i just loved it. right, from start to finish. >> thank you. >> jimmy: and it gets crazy

[ light laughter ] >> she's scary. this mummy is scary. she's beautiful, she's terrifying, she's powerful. you want to -- alluring, and you want to run from her. >> jimmy: that's the girl from -- i know her from "kingsmen." >> "kingsmen." fantastic, sofia boutella, she's amazing. >> jimmy: she had the sword -- remember the -- her feet were swords. the blades, the blades? >> yeah, the blades. >> jimmy: oh, my gosh, yeah. she was fantastic, but she's great in this as well. you make everybody look good. everybody's gorgeous in this movie. >> thank you, thank you. >> jimmy: but there's a scene where you go, oh, that can't be really tom wrestling and rolling around the plane. >> with annabelle wallis. >> jimmy: yes, who's fantastic as well. >> yeah, she's amazing. >> jimmy: but you really did your own stunts? >> yeah, i had this idea. it was something i was actually talking to chris mckrory, who wrote it also, you know, were working on "mission" together and other films, and alex kurtzman, who worked -- he directed it. and so i had this idea for a a scene with annabelle wallis and i, that i wanted to do the plane crash for real. so, we went to bordeaux, france and we built this set inside this airplane. it's a lot of engineering went -- went into this.

a lot of research and development actually. and then we spent two days on the vomit comet. >> jimmy: yes, they call it "the vomit comet." >> they call it the vomit comet 'cause -- 'cause it's just a a parabolic arc and usually people get sick, and you know. >> jimmy: do people get sick? >> yeah, people got sick. >> jimmy: i was -- [ laughter ] >> people got sick. >> jimmy: what did the set smell like? [ light laughter ] >> i didn't even -- we were just like -- you don't want to even think about it. >> jimmy: don't even think about it. >> you just focus on the work, you know. [ light laughter ] focus on the work, focus on the shot. and in between the take, you know, you go into zero g for about 35 seconds. and then in between takes we, you know, we're getting ready to do the next thing, and guys would pull out their bags and, you know, they were going for it. >> jimmy: but how did you know where you were going to land? >> i didn't get sick, and annabelle didn't get sick, so. >> jimmy: yeah, but you were -- you were in zero gravity -- >> you were in zero gravity, and we start at the top -- front of the airplane, to the back. and we couldn't really rehearse this stunt, you just have to go on and do it. and annabelle, who's never done anything like this before, ever. she was a real champ. and you see in the sequence, we're just spiraling out of control. it was -- it was wild. and it needed to be wild. >> jimmy: it's fantastic. it's a big movie, and it's super fun. >> thank you. >> jimmy: we have a clip. here's tom cruise and annabelle wallis trying to survive the plane crash. this was shot in real zero

[ light laughter ] >> jimmy: yeah, that's so interesting. you think that you would have that. >> i know. no, no. >> jimmy: i want to talk about this film, "megan leavey." this is a real true story. >> mm-hmm. >> jimmy: a real person. can you set up the movie? >> yes. so megan was a kind of lost soul. she joined the marine corps, which completely changed her life. and she decided to become a a canine handler. so the movie is a lot about that. the canine unit. and you know, a badass female marine. >> jimmy: absolutely yeah.

and did you -- [ cheers and applause ] did you have to go to -- did you go to boot camp and everything? >> yes. i had -- well, i had to train really intensely with the dog, because it was his first movie. which made me a little bit nervous. but the two of us trained together, as you would, you know, as the marines do with their dogs. and it was really intense. it was like, i mean, we would just hide some treats around the room for him, for him it was great. but i had to feel super confident with this massive german shepherd, which i'm not used to. >> jimmy: yeah, he doesn't know he's acting. he's just like, food. >> he's just finding food, yeah. >> jimmy: finding food, like -- yeah.
