broken glass on the sidewalk right there. we asked the san francisco superior courts for a snap shot of how these car breaking cases got resolved will in 2017 and they spent months compiling that data. >> monday they just broke my rear window. >> reporter: people who live here -- even bombeding officers, all have been caught up in the cross hairs of the car break-in epidemic. auto repair shops say they're exhausted. >> a lot of employees are tired now because they don't get a break. >> reporter: nbc bay area requested a breakdown of the break-ins. the superior court granted our requests and dug up 417 cases. a little more than half ended with jail sentences and a sliver more in prison sentences totalling a 57% conviction rate for auto burglaries.

>> i will say that we receive 74% of the incidents, a little higher than the number you have. >> reporter: max with the district attorney's office says it includes revoked probations in its numbers. possibly explaining the difference. either way he is grateful the superior courts are collecting such granular data. speaking of which, how much jail time did those convicted serve? just four months for the 85% that entered a plea deal and just over four months for those sentenced by a judge. only for you% all year actually went to trial. and jail time dropped significantly if the person has fro priors. we asked the san francisco superior courts if they wanted to go on camera is that they said the numbers speak for

as well. the fbi has been investigating the breach. the feds say it happened at a company in massachusetts that provides transcripts for doctors' visits. an employee accesses information over a two-week period last year. >> stop working with the feds. it makes license plate readers. the activists went there today and they say the company is working with i.c.e. and they delivered a company asking the coil. no one came to the door. >> we want to make sure immigrant families stay safe and this technology should not be used to track immigrant families. >> you may remember another protest was held in january outside the san francisco federal building when the contract was initially announced with i.c.e. of the will.

a gas station mix-up in san ramon. diesel gas was put in the regular pump. it happened last weekend. the gas station received about 30 reports from customers. this can severely the damage your engine. chevron is addressing it. a high school senior severely reprimanded for her post saying her content was meant to inspire. she has been disenrolled from archbishop high school just weeks before graduation. this is her inat a gram page. there are some photos where she is in her underwear. she is in a private high school. the officials told her if she didn't take down the pictures, she would be disenroad. she is protesting that decision and started a petition. she said she's been working

at the same time that violent crime went up 18% in san francisco. in la, mayor antonio villaraigosa put more police on the streets and cut violent crime in half. california's police chiefs trust antonio for governor.

mishandled soil samples and falsified data and it later took corrective action. two years later, a former worker came forward announcing the fraud was. more widespread. they prompted the flaif in 2017 to reexamine all of the data. earlier this year, the navy revealed nearly half had inconsistencies and some of it is likely fraudulent. last week the department of justice sentenced two workers to prison for falsifying clean-up records. the company acknowledged the records were fake but stand by the rest of the work. now, the supervisor said not only is she disgusted with it but with the navy. the agency in charge of redevelopment. >> the lack of transparency and unwillingness to answer questions has caused a lot of doubt and delay on the project.

capitol for the memorial. >> not only my department sent me here to honor jacks, but it is important that they're doing it for the first time to honor these dogs that really save us. to make sure they're safe and they cross the line first. >> well said. >> maybe a little too tech savvy. a high school student has been suspended after hacking into the computer and changing grades. police agents raided the boy's home. the family surveillance camera captured it. neighbors were shocked to see law enforcement with guns drawn breaking down the door. the 16-year-old is accused of changing the grades of a dozen students in concord. his father, the boy's father said the son should be punished but he wondered if it is possible federal charges is a bit too much.

hour. let's take you to the north bay. we have clear skies across the vineyards. in napa, the humidity is extremely low. down to 15%. currently 82 degrees. fire danger is elevated. we will begin to drop down into the 60s. fire danger again will stay with us through tonight. also into early tomorrow morning. we're a little over six months out from the deadly wildfires that ravaged over 100,000 acres. it is the same spots for the fire danger. i probably don't need to tell you this but no barbecuing tonight. even tomorrow as the winds could top 50-miles-per-hour.

the campaign worker who talked with us yesterday reiterated her claim to the school newspaper. >> it was not casual touching. it was inappropriate and it disgusted me. >> i was really surprised. >> what was surprising? >> all this sexual harassment. all that stuff. i didn't know it would come from him. >> anyone who would put anyone through that uncomfortable state is, in my opinion, is not a good person. >> some of the claims date back to 2002 and many critics have asked why he was allowed to continue teaching. district officials who wouldn't talk on camera say they can't comment on specific cases but when allegations are made they follow all proper procedures. >> he did not return our call for comment. while cause are being reviewed, more reason possible victims

have come forward and he will end up facing some of them at the public hearing tuesday night at city hall. >> thank you. >> the lawyers for ruben foster did not attendant court. this was video from a previous hearing. his lawyer wanted his girlfriend's medical records from the prosecution. the girlfriend has since recanted her story that ruben foster beat her, instead blaming the injuries on a fight with another woman during a road rage incident. >> 18 months after the deadly blaze, a judge dismissed charges. the attorneys argue that alameda county that's the never found the cause of the fire and therefore, can't say that their clients were negligent.

it started with a car burglary and ended with a chase. this all began in japantown. investigators investigating a car burglary on one man but the other car drove off. the driver finally stopped at civic center plaza where he was arrested. both men were booked for burglary and other charges.

just before 11:00, a man was arrested. he ran and collapsed at the entrance of a 7-eleven. the paramedics were able to rush him to the hospital. now they're looking for a suspect who witnessed the scene, drove away in an suv. talk about a scary wake-up call for a homeowner when someone drove their car into this house at 5:00 in the morning. the car is gone but you can see what's left of the home. this happened at farm hill boulevard. luckily no one was hurt. at this point it is not clear how the driver lost control. all systems go from cape canaveral. take a look. >> 3, 2, 1, 0, liftoff. >> it never gets owed. >> today spacex's rocket 9 launched successfully in

dispute with a contractor they didn't even hire. >> it turns out they mistakenly gave the wrong guy a lot of money. so they asked the investigator chris to give back the money. >> this has triggered some very unexpected and severe headaches. it all started with some flooring and kitchen work. the owner got several bids. after they selected a company, they sent the $24,000 check to the wrong business by mistake. that company cashed the check and later sent a refund but that was not the end of the story. >> the check was returned for insufficient funds. it bounced. >> and it sent another check. but only for half the amount. >> tonight, what the business owner said when we confront him. plus the non-negotiable reason why you should give contractors no more than $1,000 up front.

and the standing ovation went on for about a minute. that's a long time. the standing ovation in pittsburgh for a member of the giants. andrew mccutchen returning to the steel city for the first time. he spent nine scenics there with the pirates. >> his mother passed away a few days ago. now the a's have put him on the bereavement list. >> there will be a memorial for gretchen pisciotti. >> on tuesday night,two days after his mother passed away from als, the a's right fielder made his way to the batter's box at the oakland coliseum. a standing ovation followed.
