where is pearl pinson. tonight marks two years since the bay area teenager vanished. it's a chilling case. her family is not giving up. tonight they gathered at the very overpass where she was last seen. nbc bay area's cheryl hurd was at tonight a vigil in vallejo. so heartbreaking for this family not to have any answers so far. >> reporter: that's right, jess. it was a difficult night for pearl's people and for investigators still working on

this case. they were all here tonight, and they tell me they're confident pearl will be found. >> we expected to have her back home the day she was taken. and then coming to two years, it's heartbreaking. >> reporter: heartbreaking and emotional. the family and friends of pearl pinson. tonight's vigil held at the same vallejo overpass where she was last seen being dragged away, bleeding and screaming. 19-year-old fernando castro, believed to have kidnapped her. there's no evidence the two knew each other. >> her being so young, i feel like he couldn't have done it on his own. >> reporter: castro was killed in a shoot-out with police on the central coast one day after she was taken. pinson's blood was found in his car. off and on for two years, solano county sheriffs deputies have been searching coastal snonoma

county, hoping the dive team could come up with something. >> i'm happy with the effort that's put in. it didn't lead to us finding her. >> reporter: for detective sean mattson, this case is personal. >> relatives call and text me more times than i can count. i feel kind of a connection to them and a responsibility to do the best i can. >> i know she'll be found. you know what, even if it's two years from now, i feel like i know she'll be found one way or another. >> reporter: now, there is a tip line on the solano county sheriffs facebook page. there's also a $10,000 reward for information leading to the whereabouts of pearl. reporting live in vallejo, cheryl hurd, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, cheryl. we're following some breaking news out of oakland right now. it's a fire burning near the oakland coliseum. it's at the intersection of hagan berger and san leandro. this is a photo sent to us from

a viewer. we don't know exactly what is burning. we don't have the details right now. we have a crew headed in that direction, and as soon as they get there, we'll bring you the latest information. also breaking at this hour, police are investigating a stabbing in concord. this is at treat and clayton. a witness tells us a man in the parking lot of a cvs waved down a van. when the van stopped, that man stabbed the driver in the neck. >> my boss is a good guy. he helps out a lot of people, i mean as much as he can. he's a really good guy. >> the victim was taken to the hospital. his condition is unknown. the suspect took off and is on the run. dramatic new video tonight which shows a police chase coming to an end in santa clara. police say the suspect rammed a police car last week during a traffic stop and then raced away. today officers spotted that same car in a parking lot. and get this. the driver ran again ammed thend

took off again. officers cornered him after he hit a series of parked cars. the question as to why he's doing this, we don't know. we are told that no officers have been injured. now to our microclimate weather coverage. after some spotty rain, more changes ahead this memorial day weekend. take a look at san jose. i cool nig a cool night but it's about to get much warmer. jeff? >> it's going to be a little slow going on saturday's forecast, but eventually we will get that sun building in. right now storm ranger, we still have some wet weather right up here near santa rosa. it's moving off to the south. likely continued showers in rohnert park. over the next few hours, best chance of any wet weather would be right near the northern coast liep, also the peninsula and maybe a spot shower for the south bay. into tomorrow morning, on the early side, still a slight chance of a shower, but it's mainly the cloud cover that will still hold on tomorrow morning. then once we hit the afternoon,

decades in the making. nbc bay area's ian cull joins us with what they're saying and what they want next. >> reporter: the school spokesman says this is simply a retirement, no more, no less. but those women who say they were abused say tonight is a step in the right direction. >> it's been an emotional day. >> reporter: tonight relief among two former presentation high students. mary ann stew ki, the board of directors chair at the high school says she's moving on at the end of the month. the announcement follows our exclusive investigations which revealed at least eight former teachers have been accused of some form of sexual misconduct. some of the allegations dating back decades. the victims say the incidents were reported to school leaders who then failed to report the accusations to police. >> what we've always been working towards is replacing the leadership. >> reporter: kathryn says she was sexually assaulted by a spanish teacher when she was a student in 1990, saying should

he told stuckey, the principal at the time, who allegedly never reported it. >> i think it would be hard for the sisters and for the board, after listening to all the dozens of accusations over the past 30 years, not to encourage marion stuckey to retire. >> in a statement released this afternoon, mary ann stuckey insists her term as board chair was coming to an end. quote, i hope the continuing improvements the school is making on its own and in response to criticism to improve zwrags and training will have a positive impact. >> and then ensuring the new leadership adheres to child abuse reporting laws so we can rebuild the school and make it a great one. >> reporter: the school has said it revised its policies and is now requiring additional staff training on mandatory reporting of sexual abuse to police. ian cull, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, ian. as we mentioned, our investigative unit has aired a series of exclusive reports on presentation high school.

to watch them, go to our website, nbcbayarea.com and click on the investigative unit tab. tonight we're learning the d.a. will not be filing charges against this man. a san jose kindergarten teacher accused of inappropriately touching a 9-year-old. prosecutors say there isn't enough evidence. police arrested edward frerking after allegations surfaced he touched a student who was helping him set up his classroom. a tweet from president trump tonight hints that a north korea summit may happen after all. the president referenced very productive talks about reinstating the summit on its original date of june 12th in singapore. president trump abruptly canceled the meeting yesterday after hearing that north korea went back on its commitment to allow nuclear inspectors into the country. but overnight he got a new comment from north korea. the statement called his decision to cancel a surprise and totally regrettable, adding that chairman kim jong-un had focused every effort on his meeting with president trump. well, the scooter saga

continues. you've probably seen people riding them on sidewalks and up and down streets in san francisco. but have you seen them on the bay bridge? new video tonight gives drivers a new reason to be upset with those electric scooters found all over the city. nbc bay area's jean elle is live in san francisco where the scooters are slowing traffic and really it's a big safety issue to have them on the bay bridge. >> reporter: it is, jessica. drivers say two young men on electric scooters drove slowly up first street, blocking traffic, and right onto this bay bridge on ramp. one witness says he thought for sure they would turn around before they got onto the span, but they didn't. two men on electric scooters ride onto the bay bridge. that's mike lee hollering at one rider as he stands on the emergency walkway. >> i thought it would not be safe. it's going to be dangerous. >> reporter: lee says the pair slowed cars down as they scoo

up the bay bridge on ramp thursday afternoon. >> they're young kids. maybe they thought it was a good, cool idea. i was just going to think they're going to go on the on ramp and flip a u-turn and come back out. but they ended up going on the pedestrian walkway, emergency left side and keep on going. >> reporter: the chp says several drivers called 911 to report the pair on the span. officers never located them, but say if they had, they would have detained and cited them because scooters that have a maximum speed of 15 miles an hour are not allowed on the bridge. pedestrians aren't allowed either. >> would you write that on the bay bridge? >> no. >> reporter: electric scooter riders in san francisco we talked to said they have no plans to give it a try. >> riding across the bridge is a little nuts. >> i don't think it's a sensible idea, yeah. >> reporter: the chp agrees the message tonight is do not ride an electric scooter on any highway or bridge. now, the city of san francisco did just put those scooter share

companies on notice, ordering them to remove all scooters from the streets of san francisco by june 4th and apply for a permit. reporting live in san francisco, jean elle, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, jean. for years the end of the line has been the pittsburgh bay point station, but today bart opened two new stations, extending service to antioch. the new line is called e bart, short for eastern contra costa bart. they're powered by renewable diesel fuel. bart offered free rides after a ribbon cutting ceremony. the regular service starts tomorrow. still ahead, it's filling up your in box. the new law having a big impact in the bay area. plus the video has gone viral and ayesha curry is not happy about it. the inappropriate thing a houston rockets fan did to her at last night's game. storm range, mobile doppler radar shows more showers starting to push into santa

zblood a new law went into effect today in the european union. it's designed to protect european citizens' private data. but it's having an impact on companies around the world including here in the bay area and their customers. sergio quintana is in san francisco with the details for us. sergio? >> reporter: janelle, if you happen to receive an e-mail from a company or actually from several companies, if they are updating their privacy policies, it's likely because those companies are trying to comply with this new european law. on a busy friday evening, everyone i randomly asked in the street told me they received some kind of notice from a company about the gdpr or general data protection regulation. >> from every company i've ever signed up for and some i haven't. like a lot. >> have you read any of them? >> no. i just clicked through them. >> reporter: in short, the flood of e-mails and updates are

efforts to comply with the new law aimed at protecting the private data of european union citizens. many companies are choosing toek tend some of those protections to all their customers, including americans. under the new european law, companies have to tell their customers what data they're collecting and how it's being used. the. >> the gdpr also has in it that you have adequate data safeguards to protect your customers' data. if you're a small company, that means you should be using good vendors. >> reporter: joshua is a san francisco based privacy attorney. he says every company that does business with european customers should be aware of these new regulations. some local companies were taken by surprise and have even decided to block europeans from accessing their websites, which could hurt a company's bottom line. at least one san frnc startup called payver has pulled its app from the european market because of the legal work they're still conducting. in a statement, they said we plan to resume in the future. local residents seem to appreciate the new regulations. >> certainly i'm all for as much

protection as we can get. >> reporter: in san francisco, sergio quintana, nbc bay area news. new at 11:00 tonight, cal fire released the first findings of its probe into the northern california wildfires last october. now, the report doesn't involve any of the devastating fires in napa and sonoma counties but it does blame pg&e for violations related to three of the four fires in butte and nevada counties. the cases have been turned over to local prosecutors and state regulators. pg&e in turn released a statement responding to the report. the utility says, quote, based on the information we have so far, we believe our overall programs met our state's high standards. meanwhile the initial findings are expected to be released next week on some of the local fires from october. our investigative unit has learned that pg&e is already blaming north bay counties for a flawed response to the fires. the utility is filing claims against sonoma county, santa rosa, and three other wine country agencies. an attorney representing sonoma county called pg&e's claims an

insult given the challenges they faced that night. while the investigation is not complete, the governor's office of emergency services report did find major gaps in sonoma county's emergency alert system. a powerful sign of recovery for the north bay communities leveled by the devastating wildfires. seven months later, the city of santa rosa recognized a coffey park homeowner for having the first rebuilt home. the entire neighborhood was destroyed. >> well, people can see it. folks who are struggling to figure out how to put it all together, they can see there's a light at the end of the tunnel. >> the tubbs fire destroyed 1,300 homes just in the coffey park neighborhood. two more homes will be rebuilt in a matter of weeks and then dozens in the coming months. let's bring things over to chief meteorologist jeff ranieri. we have faith that the sunshine is just around the corner. >> it is. it's going to be slow to get here on saturday, but that sun's going to start to come on out as we head into your memorial day weekend. let's take you into our microclimate forecast tonight.

we'll get you ready for that weekend. the big headline everybody is talking about is the warmer in head into this upcoming weekend. it really looks like high pressure will start to bring that warm air, especially on sunday, also into memorial dayo. but before we can get to that, we still have to get over some showers that are lingering with our storm system as it's trying to pull on out of here. right now storm ranger mobile doppler radar shows some of this activity in the north bay. it's moving to the south. that would continue to put some showers in south santa rosa through 11:37, at petaluma by 12:09 tonight. so for all of the bay area tomorrow, we're holding on to just a slight chance of a spotty shower. also the clouds and temperatures starting off cool in the 50s. 56 for the south bay. tri-valley at 55. in the north bay, 54. san francisco will begin at 53. i want to take you back to our hour by hour forecast on saturday morning just to get you ready for the day. you can see at 7:30, it's just a

little chance here of maybe a few hit and miss showers for the santa cruz mountains, also for the south bay. it's the clouds that we're going to have as we start the day. once we hit the afternoon at 2:00 p.m., you can see some sunshine trying to break out in the east bay. also for the south bay. still kind of gray there with an overcast sky for parts of the north bay. but then by the late afternoon, early evening hours, those skies will begin to clear on out. so temperatures warm up for tomorrow, but it's not exactly going to be a hot day. we'll get back to some low 70s in the south bay. i still think it will be really nice here across downtown san jose at 70 degrees. contra costa, alameda counties, the warmest the more you go away from the bay. 74 my forecast in antioch. 73 in concord. i couldn't warm you up too much in oakland and hayward because of a little bit of a bay breeze moving in and the cooler air that's lingering around. through the peninsula, also still cool. 66 here in redwood city. san francisco, our typical cool

upper 50s and low 60s. if you're heading to san francisco or you're looking for something to do, maybe you forgot. it's all about carnival this weekend. we do expect sunshine to build in once we hit 1:00, 2:00, and also 3:00. remember tha parade on sunday, that's really kind of the main event. we should have a lot more sun once we hit sunday's forecast in san francisco. to the north bay, we're at 72 in napa. 71 in santa rosa. cooler 67 in mill valley. extended forecast, temperatures in san francisco going up to 69 on memorial day for monday. then we're cooling off into next week for cities away from the coast. there's your warming. 84 on sunday. by memorial day, we are up to 90. then we're back down to 70s as we head into next week. so tomorrow the sun's a little slow going. it will get here. i think sunday and monday are going to be the really good days.
