mission district where candidate newsom will be campaigning in about two hours. >> reporter: you see the crowd starting to build behind me. gavin newsom is going to dip into the well of some of his biggest-named backers. as for john cox, he was in berkley, then he went to sacramento, now he's on his way back to san diego. so a whirl wind tour for him. as we talk about the record-breaking early voter numbers, the tidal wave is still tomorrow. they have received 113,000 votes, 24% of the voter turnout. but they are expecting turnout in the 60s. there could be a couple hundred thousand ballots still up for grabs. john cox talked about fiscal responsibility. newsom had a message of the

american dream which runs counter to what we've seen from washington recently. these stumps still carry weight. >> i think the way the numbers are tracking, if we were to get 100,000 people who voted at the polls tomorrow, this will be the highest midterm turnout since 1974. our records don't go any further back in time. >> people in california have a very good way of, first of all, rejecting the conventional wisdom and deciding for themselves that they want change. >> reporter: so that was john cox answering a question from a reporter about lagging behind newsom by double digits in a number of polls which he called, quote, rear view, not taking into account the latest data. we just got video of gaffvin newsom from he was there campaigning on behalf of a candidate.

news. a deadly accident during lunch hour in san francisco's north beach. our nbc bay area chopper was overhead. a big rig hit a pedestrian. details are limited but it happened at the intersection of powell and vallejo. the truck driver is cooperating with police. the accident closed a few tre s streets in the area. we have good news tonight about two missing children from the south bay. sheriff's deputies in colorado found alexander and priscilla penaloza. their mother allegedly kidnapped them. police issued an amber alert. the kids were not hurt. a stretch of roadway in the santa cruz mountains remains closed because of the nea highw.

degrees. san francisco will stay in the 60s from the embarcadero right down to the ingleside. as we bring you up to the north bay, it's going to be warm, but not uncomfortable. we'll be up to 78 in santa rosa, 76 in sonoma and 75 in mill valley. no doubt, tomorrow is going to be a beautiful day. i know there are a few of you who are like, we like the sunshine. it's been nice, but where is all the rainfall headed? it's all about high pressure. this has been so extremely stubborn in object actober and t kping the jet stream to the north. and the effect again weather conditions. i want to take a look at the we've had these on again, off data. most of the bay area hasn't seen any rainfall in the past 33 to

34 days. it was pretty good in the north bay with close to an inch of rain in santa rosa. but for most of the bay area, it's only been trace amounts to .700 of an inch. i still do not see any pattern change. we're looking at dry weather and mild, low 70s in san francisco by thursday and friday. inland valleys, we'll stay with some pretty steady temperatures as we head right into friday's forecast. i am watching out on thursday. low humidity and a dry breeze might bring us a fire weather watch on thursday. we'll keep an eye on that. and we'll stay with these 70s. the best chance of above-average rain goes to texas and the southeast. what does that mean for the bay area? at this point we are likely trending for winter average to maybe below average on the
