everybody. well today, most of the country was hit with snow, ice and record low temperatures. yeah millions of americans woke up this morning, like, "damn, this promotion for 'frozen 2' is nuts." [ laughter ] almost 70% of the country got hit with an arctic blast you know it's cold when they start describing the weather with flavors of dentyne gum. [ laughter ] "vanilla frost is hitting the tri-state area." [ light laughter ] it was cold today. it was so cold, president trump stayed warm by burning copies of don jr.'s new book. you know what i'm saying [ laughter ] it was cold. >> steve: wow, that's cold >> jimmy: it was so cold, mitch mcconnell's chins were chattering all day long. [ chattering ] [ laughter ] well, it's a good day to be inside because the new disney streaming service launched today. yep. [ cheers ] disney+ is available and it features almost 500 movies. 500 movies, or as samuel l. jackson calls it one year of work [ laughter ] that's right, disney+ started streaming at 12:01 a.m. and suffered a few technical

problems yeah, when he heard about streaming problems at midnight, bernie sanders was like, "been there, doing that. [ laughter ] but disney+ is pretty amazing. it features all the movies from "marvel," "star wars" and pixar. and just to complete with netflix, it also features a thousand stand-up specials from disney characters you've never heard of >> steve: oh [ light laughter ] >> jimmy: yeah, experts think disney+ could be the biggest threat to netflix yet. right now, both streams services are racing to see who can raise the price a dollar each month without you noticing [ laughter ] seriously, you could tell netflix is worried instead of asking "are you still watching," now it says, "and where the hell do you think you're going?" [ laughter ] but disney+ has so much content to choose from check this out yeah, look at that disney, pixar, "marvel," "star wars" and "national geographic." everyone was like, "wait, how did 'national geographic' wind up sitting with all the cool kids?" [ laughter ] it's like a concert ad that says, "come see john, paul, george and 'national geographic.' [ laughter ] disney officially launched their new streaming service, disney+. and just a few weeks ago, apple launched their streaming service apple tv+.

[ light laughter ] meanwhile, to counter what people see on tv, i heard that rudy giuliani might launch his own podcast that will provide analysis of the impeachment hearings the podcast doesn't have a name yet. although prosecutors are already calling it "exhibit a. [ laughter ] i can't wait for rudy's podcast. it'll be fun to hear him rant against the democrats, then take a 30 second break to read an ad for casper mattresses. [ light laughter ] i heard -- some tech news here i heard that instagram might get rid of likes as soon as next week. yeah, no more likes. in response, people immediately stopped running marathons and having babies. [ cheers and applause oh, and get this today we got a first look at the resigned sonic the hedgehog >> steve: oh >> jimmy: yeah, when the first trailer for the movie came out, fans hated how unrealistic sonic looked, so they re-did the animation. here's the old sonic on the left and new one on the right. check it out fans are like, "finally now that's a realistic blue talking hedgehog." the comics come home benefit in boston and he raises money for the cam neely foundation which helps cancer patients and their families it's a great thing they actually saved my dad's life i couldn't make it this year but i skyped in. and i told denis i'd donate $10,000 on one condition. he'd have to put on a yankees t-shirt with my name on the back and lip sync "truth hurts" by lizzo [ laughter ] so, here he is with the shirt right -- right here. that's denis yeah, he's a good man. and then somebody in the audience offered $20,000 if they could have the shirt burned instead [ laughter and applause i love boston! i absolutely love boston so much >> steve: come on. >> jimmy: so anyways -- two firefighters from worcester fire department showed up. here they are right here and - [ laughter ] here they are burning the shirt. this might be number one we take previous "high school musical" theater cast and reunite them to put on their show in six days so obviously, that's very funny. and also, we have cast that are millennials. and we have casts that are baby boomers. so some people saw them each other five years ago some people saw each other 45 years ago and the one thing that unites us all, right, is that word high school. we all feel a little gross when you say it, right? [ laughter ] like we're going to puke >> jimmy: yeah >> 'cause it's traumatic, but to shed the labels that you had in high school and sort of reintroduce yourself to people that you know. it's a little bit like time travel and it's the most positive uplifting show and i watch it with my kids, we've seen all the cuts. and i'm so proud of it >> jimmy: fascinating. it's called "encore. >> it's called "encore." >> jimmy: do people -- do people, like, hook up? school and now your not, and you're both divorced. i don't know what's going to happen >> jimmy: oh, see that's what i'm talking about. >> watch the show. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: let's talk about "frozen 2. >> let's do it >> jimmy: it comes out november 22nd. >> yeah. >> jimmy: what can everyone expect for this one? >> this one is a much bigger adventure than the first one i was really proud of the first one, because we talked about self-love and familial love when a lot of times, you just get to talk about romantic love but in this movie, we delve a little bit into romantic love and the thing i think i'm proudest of is the way that they represented kristoff. like, the movie -- in the first one, it's like two females it's great but in the second movie, kristoff has a song that is going to blow your mind, sung by jonathan groff. >> jimmy: jonathan groff >> it's called "lost in the woods. and it's about his big feelings for anna and little boys don't often see representations of other boys having really big loving feelings and there's a line in the song that says, "you feel your feelings and your feelings are real." and weezer just did a cover of

it and someone you might know is in the video [ light laughter ] >> jimmy: you just winked. >> i did, yeah >> jimmy: yeah, yeah, yeah >> it was something in my eye. but it's me. it is me >> jimmy: yeah, you're in it >> and he also has two lines that i love where he rescues anna at one point, and it is in the midst of battle, and he looks at her, and first thing he says is, "i'm here. what do you need?" he doesn't say, "stand back, i've got this. and i was like, i stood up when i first saw it i was like, "do you know how profound that line is? >> jimmy: yeah >> and then, in the end, anna apologizes for something and he says, "it's okay, my love it's not fragile." [ audience aws ] >> jimmy: wow. >> i know, right [ laughter ] >> jimmy: i got to say, the -- what do you call it? the animation in this movie is something i've never seen anything like it >> so great, right >> jimmy: get ready. they're going to win all sorts of oscars and whatever awards - 'cause i've never -- the water >> the water is crazy looking. >> jimmy: it's not like little mermaid cartoon waves. >> no. >> jimmy: it looks like a real ocean. >> yeah, it's terrifying >> jimmy: it's unbelievable. amazing animation, and you just crush it >> thanks. >> jimmy: not only are you great at singing, but your voice acting is fantastic.

>> thanks. those animators are really the unsung hero. and i would love to take a a minute just to say thank you to all of our animators. we have hundreds of people work on this movie. >> jimmy: it's nuts, it's unbelievable >> oh, they're so good and there's like just one person that works on elsa's braid. and then - >> jimmy: oh, really >> yeah. but, they also -- they have a lot of fun together. and when they show us the pre-vis, like the pre-visual, when i have to rerecord a scene or slide a line in or something, what they show us often has tricks in it like -- when we watch the pre-vis, first of all, we're nude, okay >> jimmy: no, that's not true. >> and we're bald, 100%. >> jimmy: you mean the cartoons, the cartoons are >> the cartoons are. >> jimmy: okay, thanks [ laughter ] >> oh, i'm not nude! [ laughter ] >> i've never done a cartoon, okay whatever you got to do, man. whatever you got to do to get into character, go for it. >> no, no. it's a disney film the characters are nude. >> jimmy: yeah >> this doesn't sound any better >> jimmy: no, it doesn't, yeah >> but there's like, there's just like white -- >> jimmy: there's no nudity in this movie at all, by the way. >> or grayish body parts no nudity. i'm in so much trouble at this point.

[ laughter ] disney people behind the scenes are like, "what's she talking about? >> jimmy: no, no >> but we're also bald >> jimmy: yeah >> and - >> jimmy: because they haven't done the animation >> they haven't done the animation. and then, often times, like, i remember trying to slide one line into this intimate scene where elsa and i are sitting on the bed. and i'm like, "it's okay you'll always have me," and the animators just put in -- [ raspberries >> jimmy: oh, my god >> yes >> jimmy: oh, come on. >> they put in toots there's been times where i've been like jumping from a cliff to cliff and i don't make it [ laughter ] and you just see - >> jimmy: they're just playing with you >> wa-wee-woo. [ laughter ] yeah, they have so much fun in there. >> jimmy: gosh, it must be amazing. what a cool thing to be part of do people come up to you like parents and go like, "oh, my gosh will you take a picture with my kid? like, you're anna. >> yes yes, all the time. and here's one thing i do want to say this. if your kid is not 7-years-old yet, maybe skip it because i've been in so many awkward situations where the parent gets excited. and it's like a 3-year-old and they're like, "this is princess anna. and they just like shove a a 3-year-old at me and then, i'm like, "hi, how are you? i'm anna." wait, what and then they recognize it, but

there's this dissidence. and they don't get it. >> jimmy: they're like, "what? because they're looking at like an old woman >> jimmy: no [ laughter ] >> and they're like, that's not anna she's 17, okay [ laughter ] and i just feel like they do not get it but at 7-years-old, they can understand that there's like a a voice actor. so prior to that, i would say skip the picture they're fine without a picture >> jimmy: wait till 7, and then do the picture >> then throw the 7-year-olds at me. >> jimmy: it is such a cool movie. i loved it i watched it with my two girls and they loved it. and they were like, "oh, my gosh, we want to go see it again. >> i'm so proud of it. >> jimmy: you're fantastic in it i want to show everyone a clip here's kristen bell in "frozen 2. take a look. ♪ >> did elsa seem weird to you? >> she seemed like elsa. >> hmm [ clears throat that last word really seemed to throw her. what was it? >> i don't know -- [ clears throat i don't know >> no, no. >> but - >> ah. ice. oh, come on. she couldn't act out ice

[ cheers ] thank you for coming back to the show >> it is good to be here >> jimmy: i love having you on the show remember the last time you were on the show? >> well, i don't know why we haven't really talked about this since, but the last time i was here, i was leaving, they provide a car. >> jimmy: you remember - >> i remember it exactly, because it was terrifying. the show provides a car. i don't need to be nice, but just to make sure you're on time >> jimmy: yeah, and you come to the show >> and you show up >> jimmy: yeah >> and so i'm leaving, and i'm in the car drive down, i guess like, fifth avenue, and suddenly something hits me in the face. and it's a piece of candy. and i look left, and there's jimmy in his car like laughing at me. [ laughter ] and so then i take a piece of candy, and you know, we're going like 30 miles an hour down the street, and i toss one at him and then you toss one at me. >> jimmy: yep.

[ laughter ] >> jimmy: oh my gosh that's not what he - no >> so then - [ laughter ] so then he goes to your car. and i'm like, "oh, jimmy is about to get it. this is going to be fun. and then, like, 2 minutes later, he comes back to my car and goes, "hey, everything's cool jimmy said he'd buy us some steaks." like in new york >> jimmy: yeah yeah, i pay the cops off with steaks [ laughter ] i was scared though. >> it was a little scary >> jimmy: i emailed you. i go, "dude, that was pretty -- that was frightening that was a couple years ago, but that was the last time i saw you. >> we're kind of - we're wimpy. i wanted to see you over the summer >> jimmy: yeah >> 'cause i was here and i said, "hey, you know i vacation near where you vacation i think right down the street from me. and i said, "maybe we should, like, get dinner or something. and you're like, "great. i go, "all right, give me your email. and you gave me your email, and then leslie and i, you know, we're on our vacation. and i said, "i'm going to email jimmy. see if he wants to hang out. and then i emailed you and you ghosted me [ laughter ] like nothing, and then it becomes like the running gag for leslie all summer is like, "have you heard from jimmy yet? [ laughter ] >> jimmy: what, come on? >> then i thought, maybe i wrote your email wrong >> jimmy: i would never ghost you. >> i thought, like i probably wrote the email wrong. >> jimmy: what email do you have >> like is this correct? >> jimmy: yeah [ laughter ]

i don't remember getting one from you >> you know what, i miss most of them. >> jimmy: oh, i know >> like everything gets past me if i don't check it -- >> jimmy: but i want to hang out with you >> i forget. we'll -- i'm gonna - >> jimmy: i would love to hang out with you i'm a big fan. i love you and we have the same interests >> i'm going to escalate this tension and awkwardness next year >> jimmy: okay good, perfect, yeah. [ light laughter ] can we talk about garry shandling? >> yes please. >> jimmy: "it's garry shandling's book" right here this is an amazing, amazing book if you like comedy in general, you should pick up this book just to see what's in the mind of a comedian as great as garry shandling is you got access to everything, his journals, his diaries, his notes that he scribbled down how did you even get - how'd you edit this? >> well, i mean, i spent about a year or two working on the documentary. and then a year working on this and i just kept finding amazing things and a lot of it is based on his interest in buddhism and it's very spiritual what he's talking about you know it's like he was developing a positive voice to talk himself off the ledge.

so a lot of the journal isn't him whining. it's actually him saying, you know, "relax and --" >> jimmy: yeah >> yeah, i mean i think there was like, i don't know what we pulled aside here, but, like he was going to do "saturday night live." and this is how he prepared. he wrote in his journal, "'saturday night live' is next week remain loose have fun be funny have fun commit to working. have fun concentrate and write during the week work extra hard. sacrifice, remain yourself rehearse and work hard as though it was your show. by sunday you'll be done." >> jimmy: wow, isn't that -- all that thought went into him [ applause ] >> yes >> jimmy: also like, i can't believe he kept all these things i mean he has all these notes and script notes like did you - did you ever keep stuff from like - >> i'm a total hoarder >> jimmy: you are. >> i mean, i'd save everything my family is very mad that everything - i'm just one of those people

with a big stack of magazines. it's like, i'm going to get to that article about eddie vedder in "mojo" magazine one day [ laughter ] >> jimmy: yeah, you have stacks of stuff, yeah >> i mean, i'm such a hoarder, and i find stuff all the time. 'cause my theory is, it's not hoarding if your stuff is awesome. you know then it's just saving cool stuff. >> jimmy: that's true. >> so the other day i was going through stuff. and i found from "freaks and geeks," so this is 20 years ago, a note from the nbc censor on "freaks and geeks." you can read it. this was like a note from the censor >> jimmy: from the censor, they said to you, "page 24, scene 11 please take another pass at revising bill's touching story about the time when he tried to sneak out a fart, but it came out a poop - [ laughter ] and i had to flush my undies down the toilet. [ laughter ] >> now why would you throw that out? that's incredible. someone had to type that out and take it seriously. >> jimmy: oh, my god and did you revise it? >> i believe there is a scene -- there was a scene in "freaks and geeks" where he's with this pretty girl, and she gets up to go get something in the other room when she gets up it sounds like

a fart >> jimmy: uh-huh >> the chair, and then she leaves, and he sits in her chair. and he tries to replicate the sound, and he can't. [ laughter ] that's what that turned into >> jimmy: yeah, yeah, yeah >> we made it into a better fart joke. >> jimmy: see? [ laughter ] see what happens the one -- one of the cooler things that i loved about this book is i didn't realize how much of a mentor he was to other people >> m-hmm >> jimmy: and, like, people would call him for advice. different directors, and other comedians, and writers and i remember i asked him for a joke once, because he did a bit at - what's the one at hermosa beach? >> comedy and magic club >> jimmy: comedy and magic club and i saw him there. and he did this great joke, something about martha stewart or something and i was doing a song about me being in love with older women or something and i was like, "can i -- can i have that joke that you did? i know it's your joke, but i love it, and it really would be a great ending to my song. he goes, "sure, take it. >> oh wow. >> jimmy: he just gave me a joke i was like, i love that garry shandling let me use his

joke >> yes >> jimmy: i mean he was just so giving and i love that. i remember, i think we were on the show, and we were talking about garry. and i looked in the camera i'm like, "garry, please come on the show. blah, blah, blah and he sent me an email, and he goes, "that freaked me out [ laughter ] don't talk to me through the camera it's so weird. he's like, "'cause i'm sitting there going, wait. what's going on? >> he also could have been really stoned at that moment [ laughter ] >> jimmy: "oh, my god. what's happening?" yeah, but in here he actually - there's a letter that he wrote to his 16-year-old self. >> oh, i know where that is. that's in the beginning. >> jimmy: yeah >> and this is weird, and i don't know why it's even in there at all just for no reason, he has a a section in his diary one day this is in 2010. >> jimmy: yeah >> right, yeah he's 60, and this is what he's writing, "to my 16-year-old self, i want to assure you that you are enough don't doubt this you're just as god intended. and then it says the next one is, "learn to meditate." and the next one is, "stop

masturbating." [ laughter ] and then it says, "one day you will not have to wear glasses. there's a surgery that can fix your eyes. [ laughter ] i know how bad yours are the doctor may have to go through the back." [ laughter ] and then he says, "punch a a couple of kids at school in the face i can't recall their names now, but you know who i'm talking about.
