[ laughter ] so, after about seven days of that, i mean, you know he was so exasperated, so i started showing up when i found out where their office was [ laughter ] >> jimmy: wow, you were really persistent persistent >> very persistent >> jimmy: yeah >> thank you >> jimmy: yes, exactly, not stalker, persistent. yeah [ laughter ] so, you start there and you're not even -- you're not even acting you just want to be around the business >> yes i did. i -- you know what that's a wonderful way to put it and the directors, you know, i actually broke through and they gave me a job and paid me $100 a week in casting as an intern and then i thought i was rich when they started paying me $500 a week. >> jimmy: yeah

parties in my hotel room with the crew and everybody and i'd deejay and by the end of the night she would be the only one left because i'm not a great deejay [ laughter ] but -- she likes me. and so, we just hung out and were just friends. and that was it. and then, we were -- she produced this movie and we were selling the movie, and i saw her and i go, "i miss you. she goes, "i miss you too. >> ah, man >> jimmy: "we should hang out. and then we've been married 16 years >> 16 years. that's love, man [ cheers and applause i love that. >> jimmy: but that's the best way to do it >> that's the best way >> jimmy: just go, "let's just being friends, having a good time." >> just be friends, right. >> jimmy: i love it. i want to talk about this now. september 10th, this comes out "a beautiful revolution: part 2. what's the inspiration did you always know it was going to be number two when you did the first one? >> the first one yeah i kind of -- when i was in the studio i was like, "man it would be nice to continue this energy of what we were creating." and "part 1" was a little more like intense and had the revolution there because it was the political climate that was going on in the fall >> jimmy: yeah >> but this one is more about, like, bringing inspiration and

joy in a different way and, like, hope and optimism. so, i wanted the music to, like, be uplifting and you feel good but also get some good food for your soul so, that's what this album is, and we took it a lot of different places but i feel like the music, like, is about rejoicing >> jimmy: wait 'til you guys hear this and see this performance tonight. "when we move" is the song >> yeah. >> jimmy: and it is so good. and you were saying -- well, i mean, you know black thought for how long now the roots? >> let me tell you, i wouldn't be sitting on this couch right here if it weren't for the roots, to be honest. like, that's my family [ applause ] at first -- look i - i love the roots i love their music but when i first saw them, i may remember this story. they were performing at this place in chicago called the double door and i was talking to this girl kind of really loving the show but trying to ignore her and trying to be cool i was just being an asswip like, i don't know why [ laughter ] but then, i got to talking to them
