well, guys, this is exciting sunday is mother's day and we love all the moms out there. [ cheers and applause yeah, i read that this year the average person is spending $245 on mother's day yeah, and on father's day, that same person will be like, "i don't know, should we get him two $5 scratch-offs or one $10? [ light laughter ] of course, the best mother's day gift costs nothing at all. but if you're 40 and still handing out free hug coupons, might be time to up your game. you know what i'm saying [ laughter ] "i'll do some chores for free. she's like, "please move out." [ light laughter ] as always, hooters is celebrating mother's day by offering moms ten free boneless wings. >> steve: aw [ laughter and applause >> jimmy: and this is nice if you take your mom to hooters, she'll be seated in a a special crying section for moms whose kids brought them to hooters on mother's day. be at the derby, and while he's there, he's hosting a fundraiser that costs $75,000 to attend. yep. for 75 grand you get to meet trump, and it's all the horse dewormer you can eat [ light laughter ] well, guys, some big movie news the new "doctor strange" sequel has finally hit theaters [ cheers and applause all i'm saying is, if you take your mom to hooters and then "doctor strange," you better nail her birthday. you know what i'm saying i'm just warning you guys. [ light laughter ] the full title of the movie is "doctor strange in the multiverse of madness. it's pretty long, although it got worse when they tried to shorten it on the marquee. "doctor strange in the --" oh, wow. away any spoilers. but, you were so great on "ozark," that i hope you won every award that was known to man to give to an actor. you deserve it you were great [ cheers and applause >> thank you >> jimmy: that was phenomenal. >> thank you >> jimmy: and i'm reading up about you. and i go, wait, you got your start on "guiding light" >> yeah, yeah, yeah. >> jimmy: what >> i started on "guiding light" out of college, you know and so, i went to theater school, and i'm learning my theater acting >> jimmy: sure >> my big -- my outdoor acting, i now call it. >> jimmy: yeah >> and then you go on television i had never been in front of the camera before. so it was like, what are you supposed to do you know, and people say, like, you do less or you do nothing. >> jimmy: because you're used to projecting your voice on stage. >> yeah, your, kind of, your voice and your body. >> jimmy: theater. >> and all -- you know, yeah >> jimmy: so now you're on camera, yeah >> so now i'm on camera, and i'm like, i'm not going to do anything, you know [ laughter ] >> jimmy: i'm not going to do anything >> i'm literally not going to do anything. and i was like, "oh, i'm cool. like, i bet -- i bet i look cool and i bet this is, like, good camera acting. and because the soap, you know, like, they -- they air it
a month after. so, you're filming an episode a day, and they're airing it a a month later. and that just happens around the clock. >> jimmy: it's work. they go for it on soap operas. >> yeah. >> jimmy: it's like, you do like 50 pages a day or something. >> 50 pages a day. you do an hour a day so then a month later, i'm like, "now let me see what my camera acting -- you know, let's see how this worked out." >> jimmy: hello, let's james dean let's see what happens if james dean enters the room >> well, james dean looked like he had a pole up his butt. [ laughter ] i did? >> jimmy: it was -- it was terrible >> it was so bad it looked like i was scared to move i was like - >> jimmy: "hi. [ laughter ] oh, really so, it's awful and you saw it, and you go, "oh, no, this is rough." >> it was horrible >> jimmy: did your friends and family say, "oh, no, dude, tom, you got to figure this out." >> no, i -- i was my own harshest critic. >> jimmy: you knew it. >> i knew it >> jimmy: you knew it. >> i knew it but it was great, because then you, kind of, learn -- learn as you go you just learn to change it. >> jimmy: and then, you ended up winning two emmys for it. >> yeah. >> jimmy: dude, yeah [ cheers and applause so you learned how to do it.
you figured it out you know, it's teacher appreciation week, and i know that you wanted to give a shout out to a certain teacher of yours. the stage is yours the floor is yours you can go to camera two or camera one >> yeah, well, when i was 14-years-old in high school, i had a teacher named steve kasakoff, and, i guess -- i guess he really changed my life you know, he was a man that introduced me to acting and gave me my first exposure to the whole thing. and he did it with love and passion, and he taught me discipline and i'm going to get emotional he gave me a work ethic. and i wouldn't be here or have the life i have right now without him. and i'm so grateful for that, and i'm so grateful for all the people, and the teachers and the adults who take time to show an interest in kids and, kind of, turn their lights on. and -- yeah, happy -- happy teacher week >> jimmy: teacher appreciation -- yeah [ cheers and applause
[ laughter ] >> jimmy: thank you for doing that thank you for saying that. love that. where would we be without our teachers we're lucky enough to have teachers i mean, he's got to be proud of your work on "ozark. i got to be honest, you play ben, you know, laura linney's brother, you know, on the show and i'm watching, you know -- and again, no spoilers, i'm not quite to the end so i don't know anything but i do know that what i saw was just amazing and it was just -- it was just - i was scared of you, then i loved you. i rooted for you i mean, i didn't love you, but i rooted for you >> right, right. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: and then -- then you got romantic, so i go, "oh, this guy's a romantic. >> yeah. >> jimmy: i'm rooting for you guys i'm always rooting for love. and then -- then i didn't know what was going to happen with you. and you made me so nervous, and i haven't seen acting like that in a long time it was just phenomenal what you did. did you know when you were doing it like, "oh, this -- i'm hitting it out of the park here? >> oh, no. no [ laughter ] >> jimmy: really >> yeah.
>> jimmy: wow. >> yeah, you don't -- you don't know like, when it -- when it's kind of really good, you kind of don't know really what's happening. and you forget a little bit, and you're not really sure but, thankfully i'm surrounded by, you know, laura linney and jason bateman. and it's like -- >> jimmy: oh, yeah >> "are we okay? "yeah, we're good. >> jimmy: we're good >> we're just -- [ light laughter ] >> jimmy: i mean, yeah, they're all -- they're all great actors the whole cast is amazing. >> amazing >> jimmy: everyone scores, obviously. but i just saw you and i was like, "this guy is just -- not even a home run. just knocked the cover off the ball, buddy. it was amazing >> dude, that means so much to me >> jimmy: really, you're great and now i want to talk about "outer range." okay, this is on prime video here, this is -- set this up, because this is a great -- this is a great plot. >> yeah. so, i mean, it's a lot of things so, you kind of have this -- it's a modern day western family drama, mystery with a a metaphysical element and crazy neighbors. [ laughter ] >> jimmy: if you can't relate to that, then i mean that's -- exactly. [ laughter ] no, but it's -- so it's basically -- yeah, you're on
horseback a lot. you're herding cattle. there's -- your wife goes missing. >> she's missing, yeah when the show starts, she's been missing for nine months and my character, perry abbott, the son of royal abbott, who is played by josh brolin, is sort of -- sort of broken, sort of -- kind of lost his wife's missing, and he doesn't know why or what happened and they don't know if she's alive or dead. and he's sort of in that limbo when we meet him >> jimmy: yeah i want to show everyone a clip here is tom pelphrey and josh brolin in "outer range. take a look at this. >> she said that rebecca's not gone that nothing's ever really gone that there's a plan. >> what do you mean? ♪

♪ [ cheers and applause >> jimmy: our next guest has a a comedy special called "trash white" streaming now on hbo max. making his "tonight show" debut, please welcome the very funny moses storm. ♪ [ cheers and applause >> thank you oh, my gosh. this is already one of the better birthdays that i've had [ cheers and applause i'll explain i grew up very poor. my mom was a single parent she had five kids. we were on food stamps when we ran out of welfare, we would actually eat from the garbage. we'd dumpster dive and a lot of people find it hard to believe that i was ever that poor because, like, look at this. [ laughter ] not only do i look rich, i look like i was conceived at an ivy league acapella concert.
[ laughter ] [ applause ] ♪ scooby-do-who my day own every university shooby-doo-whop ♪ what even is adversity [ laughter ] evil rich, like a king geoffrey game of thrones. like i'm only here to bother sophie [ applause ] you thought you killed me, sansa! i hated being on food stamps because the technical term for a family on welfare in this country is a "food insecure household. i never liked that food insecure. it just makes a pretty serious issue just sound adorable. [ laughter ] almost like the government is like, "oh, come on [ laughter ] just show us your food show us! and then i'm like -- [ laughter ]
you know, i'm starving, not bashful. [ laughter ] when we ran out of food stamps, we would go to food banks. and for some reason, all of the food at food banks was just dented cans. it seems suspicious. are they doing that? or how are you guys shopping [ laughter ] were you like, "what is this low sodium corn? [ laughter ] get out of here! not my brand!" [ applause ] actually, on my eighth birthday, we were living in this really terrible, hot, awful part of florida called, florida. [ laughter ] and any time that we wanted to go swimming, we would just break into a fancy condo community just so we could use their pool and on the way there, we would stop off at the grocery store dumpster, like we always did
but it was a birthday miracle. i had never seen anything like this this grocery store threw out their entire ice cream department at once now, every kind of ice cream that we could never afford is now in three large trash bags. my four siblings and i, we waste no time, right there, back of the store, just start shoveling half melting ice cream into our faces as fast as possible like little skin covered raccoons before it all melts. and i don't know if you've ever had to speed eat dairy in the sun, but we are not doing well have you ever been so full that you feel it in your neck [ laughter ] you know -- every burp is so high stakes. every burp, it's as if it's a contraction for the barf baby you're about to deliver. [ laughter ] it has a pulse my stomach is kicking. if i lived in georgia right now, it would be illegal to
throw this up. [ audience ohs ] [ applause ] we get to this fancy pool. the one down side of this very fancy pool, is it had an infuriating amount of security it was way too good. they had a guard shack security guard, a roaming security guard, and just a pool security guard. it made it not fun my mom is like, okay, look at me don't worry about it just stick with the regular plan when breaking into one of these pools. [ light laughter ] all of you kids spread out as far as possible. one by one, you enter the pool from different sides when safe, we can all meet in the middle we're not going to flash mob people with poverty. [ laughter ] the second that i jump in on my side of the pool, i know i'm going to vomit so, my plan is to just put my mouth under the water just so it won't make a sound and just - [ retches
so much. it looked like i had eaten nothing but 700 vanilla lava lamps. this kid with red hair, he comes to the surface of the pool, takes his goggles off, and goes, "oh, my god! [ laughter ] because he has this little imax 3d experience below. dad calls my older brother, jonah, who is already not doing well he turns he sees me and now he starts vomiting because vomiting is a lot like those inspirational quotes that white girls will post online very contagious and embarrassing when it slips out of your mouth in public. [ laughter ] so, over here, he just - [ retches "if you can't handle me at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best. [ laughter and applause that triggers my two sisters way over here to "shoot for the moon, you might land amongst the stars. [ laughter ] and then finally, my older brother, david is like, "if you want a rainbow, you're going to
have to put up with some rain. [ laughter ] there are now five kids simultaneously throwing up into one pool, which is way too many kids i know that because the other rich parents are now freaking out. because we are all so far spread out in the pool, it doesn't look like some isolated incident in their minds, it looks like some sort of violent super virus has swept over the entire pool causing kids to explode [ laughter ] kids are screaming parents are pulling their kids out by the arms. there's kids throwing up that didn't even eat trash bags of ice cream. [ laughter ] i get out of the pool. the pool is ruined and i remember just thinking to myself - [ sighs man, this place needs better security [ laughter ]
