maybe frenemies, the big beautiful bill divides president trump and elon musk. and we are live in washington with their growing rift as new tariffs take effect this morning. enhancing crime fighting technology. san francisco police leading the way with a massive gift from the crypto billionaire that would provide millis for the department. this is today in the bay. good morning to you on this wednesday. thanks for starting your morning with us. i'm marcus washington and i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. it was a nice mild walk to the car this morning. kari i think we're going to be mild all day. right? right. it's going to be a repeat of yesterday, where we start out in the 50s and we head to some of our warm valley temperatures with highs in the 80s, but slightly cooler tomorrow as we get more fog near the coast and in san francisco, and then going into the weekend with more of the same temperatures staying steady as we take a live look outside in san jose. we're in
6:01 am
the upper 50s now, and throughout the next several hours we head from upper 60s at 10:00 and then upper 70s at 1:00. today we'll see a high of 82 degrees in the south bay, 86 in morgan hill, and up to 90 in clear lake. while in san francisco it stays in the 60s. and mike, you want to alert drivers in the south bay. here's why. kari folks, look at the screen. this is video we just got in from our friend photographer reporter over here, traveling north 101 past the scene at moffett. look at a nuer of fire engines, a number of emergency vehicles, and reportedly nine vehicles involved in total at the scene blocking all but your express lanes. so not even one lane is open, just the express lane getting by with three blocked. the ambulance is on scene. although we haven't heard about any major injuries, we do have a lot of vehicles involved. let's look at the map. this is causing a backup about three miles of backup and building now coming out of sunnyvale, starting before you get to fair oaks and really just jamming up solid up st moffett field and into
6:02 am
mountain view. now, if you join 101 north at 85 or heading north of there, you're okay. if you're coming on to 37 through santa clara and into sunnyvale, continue past the backup, perhaps, and take it over to 85 and loop back up. it's more mileage, but it will keep you out of that backup. and with more traffic feeding in out of san jose, there is a concern the rest of the bay is standard. back to you. good to have you around. thanks, mike. well, ice detainment continue across the bay area. and just yesterday, agents detained at least four people in san jose. now, the growing crackdown is really leaving communities wondering what's going to happen next. today in the bay's ginger conejero saab live for us in san francisco this morning. and ginger, i know the opponents there really trying to make their voices heard in this matter. that's correct. marcus. starting with planned action, including one that's scheduled for later today. it will happen tonight. bring miguel home is in response to the detainment of miguel angel lopez from a san francisco court room last week.
6:03 am
i should say lopez is a father of three, and he is a grandfather who works at a vineyard in livermore. he has been in the country for 27 years now. his family said he was there in san francisco for a routine appointment when agents detained, and then transported him to a private detention center in kern county. supporters plan to rally for his release at livermore plaza at 6 p.m. tonight. lopez luvians arrest came last week, but there have been a number that have since followed. ice agents were in san jose yesterday for what appeared to be targeted arrests. agents were seen detaining at least four people at a strip mall parking lot on snell and blossom hill. those four were transported from one van to another. community members saw what was going on. they began filming on their phones and even sharing some words with agents. a rapid response network staff member w was also there. they sy people detained had pending removal orders. now we don't know the details of those cases.
6:04 am
of the four people detained, but one immigration attorney says there can be an appeals process that can then take a number of years. after which, if they're deemed to be a low enforcement priority, they're essentially allowed to remain in the united states with that prior order of removal, as long as they do periodic ice check ins. and there's no other red flags. now, a reminder, in the event that you or someone you know is questioned by ice agents or detained, it is important to know your rights. the immigration immigration institute of the bay area has created red cards, and as a reminder of what your rights are and how you can exercise them now, you can keep one with you wherever you go. scan the qr code on your screen to download and print one out. they are available in eight different languages, including spanish, tagalog, and korean. live in san francisco ginger conejero saab. today in the bay. good

with president trump at the white house this afternoon. they're looking for tweaks in this bill so that it can pass both houses of congress. kris i mean, it is big. so there are a lot of things in there. what's the timeline for republicans to bring this to a vote? republican senate leadership said that they would like to have this on the floor of the senate for a vote by the end of this month. they would like to see it reach the president's desk by the 4th of july. all right. thank you very much, chris pollone washington. let's take a live look in downtown san jose this morning. this is where you may smell a hint of smoke in the air. this is from the controlled burn continuing today in the south bay and south san jose. now, firefighters burned about 30 acres of land. this is in solano county park. yesterday, cal fire conducting that burn as part of the training session with bay area fire departments. training will continue in the same area today between 8:00 this morning and 5:00 this evening. meteorologist kari hall is here

of business anymore? 80% of the officers and firefighters don't live in oakland. they're not from oakland. they're not living in oakland. so if i don't live in oakland, that my loyalty and my respect and my, it's a lot different than the city that i'm living in. so i think that that, you know, i think if you can look into what other cities do, oakland used to do it, they would recruit from the inside of the city, and they would train and make sure that they were elevated to serve the community they grew up in, and a community that supported you for a lifetime. this report, accepte yesterday by oakland city council, also found that the rates for violent and property crimes have increased in that city since 2021, that nationwide, among big cities, oakland ranks first in violent and property crimes per sworn staff members. the current budget proposal for the next two years calls for defunding of the current 678 police officers, along with six police academies,

between the president and fiscal conservatives over the spending plan. scott mcgrew some republicans say it adds too much to the deficit. democrats to the democrats are concerned about medicaid. yeah, they say the white house that it cuts too much medicaid. the whiteouse says neither of these things, that it's too expensive or cuts too much is true. but the congressional budget office, whose job it is to analyze and total the cost of congressional bills, says the trump spending spending plan will cut millions from medicare and add trillions to the deficit over the next ten years, which is why you have senators like kentucky's rand paul announcing they're not going to support president trump's big, beautiful bill. the president clearly saw this exchange on cnbc and posted on social media. rand paul's ideas are crazy losers. he says. the people of kentucky can't stand him. remember, this is a fellow republican. it's also driven a

wedge between president trump and former so-called first buddy elon musk. musk is also opposed to this bill because it spends too much compared to what it brings in, he says. and he's said that gently in the past, but he absolutely unleashed on his own social network, x this massive, outrageous, pork filled congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination, he said. and then he thought, i got more to say. so he retweeted that message, adding it will burden americans with another 2.5 trillion in debt. musk went on to hint he may use his money to unseat republicans who vote in favor of this bill, saying shame on you for voting on it. here's press secretary caroline leavitt fielding that one. those who voted for it, you know you did wrong. you know it. look, the president already knows where elon musk stood on this bill. it doesn't change the president's opinion. this is one big, beautiful bill and he's sticking to it. as for the congressional

budget office's analysis that the trump spending bill will add trillions to the deficit, the white house says, well, maybe we can't trust the congressional watchdog. after all, there hasn't been a single staffer in the entire congressional budget office that has contributed to a republican since the year 2000. but guess what? there have been many staffers within the congressional budget office who have contributed to democrat candidates and politicians every single cycle since. so unfortunately, this is an institution in our country that has become partizan and political, and we are very confident in our own economic analyzes of this bill. we expect an updated total from the cbo today. all right. this is the usns cesar chavez, a u.s. navy cargo ship named after the labor leader who also served in the navy during the second world war. military.com reports defense secretary pete hegseth wants to rename this ship. he also wants to rename the soon to sail harriet tubman, and has
