now nbc bay area news tonight. two billionaires seem to be breaking up president trump and elon musk sparring in real time for everyone to see. we'll tell you the immediate and long term impact to tesla and the republicans. also, advocates say ice detentions in the bay area now include women and children. what we know about these latest cases, plus walnut creek, is tracking visitors as they move around the city. how they're doing it and why? and tapping into excitement over the

valkyries. how sonoma county wineries are now getting into the action. good evening. this is nbc bay area news tonight, i'm raj mathai. we have a lot of new information on many notable stories. we start with the break in the case. after two reported sexual assaults on a popular hiking trail. san jose police announcing an arrest about 90 minutes ago. the alllleged assaults happened yesterday morning on the los gatos creek trail. this is near lee avenue in san jose. investigators say the man attacked two women as they walked on that trail. sjpd isn't giving us more details about the arrests right now, but the department plans to release more information tomorrow. we also have new details about that massive oak tree that fell and crushed cars on the peninsula. look at the overhead shots here. a father and young child were in that car. thankfully, both made it out. the child was hurt
7:02 pm
though, but is expected to be okay. the father is calling this a miracle. it happened yesterday in san mateo. the giant tree snapped and fell onto two cars outside the green fashion nursery. this is on ninth avenue, not far from el camino. humberto montoya was inside one of those cars with his four year old son. his son was trapped under a crushed steering wheel. crews helped remove his car door and cut that steering wheel to free the son, who now has a broken leg. i'm not sure why we're still alive, honestly, but it's just a miracle. but it was. it was very, very scary in the moment. my son was actually panicked. he he never been through these situations. could you imagine that? so who's at fault for this? a spokesperson for the city of san mateo says that tree was located on a public sidewalk within city property. the city is reviewing the circumstances, including maintenance history of the tree. the city says it's not ready yet to comment on who could be held

responsible. well, a big step forward today to oust the sheriff of san mateo county, christina. corpus county supervisors unanimously voted to move the process forward. it happened today in a tense special meeting, the supervisors will send sheriff corpus an official notice of intent to remove her from office. they said they supported the rare action because of corpus, alleged misconduct and abuse of power. today, step follows numerous investigations a previous board vote of no confidence and a special election that gave the board the power to remove her corpus. you see, there was at today's meeting they have a motive. they clearly want me out of office for speaking up for what is right. i am here today because standing tall, because i know what is right, i've done nothing wrong. a pretrial or. excuse me? a pre removal hearing has been scheduled for five days from now. the sheriff's legal team plans to file a stay of the
7:04 pm
proceedings in court immediately. well, this is a remarkable story. the feud between elon musk and president trump. we are watching their relationship implode in real time. so much so tesla stock dropped nearly 15% today. the two traded insults on social media after musk criticized the president's spending bill. i'm very disappointed because elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here, better than you people. he knew everything about it. he had no problem with it. all of a sudden he had a problem. and he only developed the problem when he found out that we're going to have to cut the ev mandate, because that's billions and billions of dollars. yeah. so here we go. this all started this morning when the president was asked at the white house about musk's criticism of his bill. musk started firing back on twitter, writing, quote, without me, trump would have lost the election. such ingratitude, trump countered with a post on truth social, including this one. elon was wearing thin. i
7:05 pm
asked him to leave. i took away his ev mandate that forced everyone to buy electric cars that nobody else wanted. and later musk posted this time to drop the really big bomb. trump is in the epstein files. that's the real reason they have not been made public. musk also posted an old video showing trump and epstein partying together, but he didn't offer any evidence of his accusation about the epstein files. let's bring in political analyst larry gerston. larry. this went downhill fast and very publicly. any idea of what's happening behind the scenes here? a lot of jockeying right now, mostly for public support. the problem, of course, is, is that the one who's got most of the power is president trump. and by the way, president trump is correct in that musk did know what was in the bill. we know this because back in december, musk said it's okay if we get rid of all those things. it's okay if we get rid of the ev benefits. and so he
7:06 pm
absolutely was aware. now, on the other hand, you have to look at what musk is saying about trump. a and the ft of the matter is trump. musk had a whole lot of influence on that election outcome. raj $271 million worth one out of every $4 for the trump campaign came from that one man. so yes, trump was beholden. so you can see where both sides are taking positions here and where both have something to say of value. it's interesting because both sides, trump and president trump and elon musk, have been noted known to say, mistruths over the months and years. who's to who? you said they both jockeying for position here. what's the outcome here? what does elon musk want out of this. does he want ev mandate breaks. he certainly was willing to forego them in december. he said it publicly. so it's hard to know what he wants. but we know this much. the power rests with president trump more now than ever before. outside of president roosevelt during world war two, he has become donald trump has become the most powerful president ever in this
7:07 pm
nation's history by virtue of the way that he's been taking overer various agencies and departments. and i want to tell you something. musk is in the middle of this thing. there's a whole series of agencies right now which have issues with with musk, and they start with the national relations board. it goes to the securities and exchange commission, the equal employment opportunity commission, federal compliance, federal contract compliance. you mean the federal aviation commission and the national highway traffic safety program? they're all upset for musk with musk for various reasons, ranging from firings to discrimination to pay issues to quality of product. so that doesn't mean they're right. it doesn't mean they're going to get get him on the with goods. but the point is, there are a lot of agencies that have him in their sights as we speak. okay. well, we always say this follow the money. elon musk has a lot of money. the richest man in the world. how could this impact the midterm elections? just around the corner would must start funding candidates that are anti-trump. well, he's threatening to take his toys
7:08 pm
away, so to speak. he says he wants nothing more to do with president trump. the question is, will musk go after those republican senators that believe there there are too many cuts and that there should be of any anything more of a balanced budget? that's the issue right now. musk thinks that this current budget proposal is way too weak as far as he's concerned. there should have been many more cuts. that's what doge was about. he would say so. so now, if they go ahead and pass a budget, that doesn't really make too many of those cuts. the question is, will musk go after and primary as they call the term primary. these guys come next spring. we'll have to see. right now he's a pretty unhappypy guy. yeah. what happened. we're seeing the video there just a couple of days ago. they seem to be amicably split the other day, even giving him a key to the w white house or whatever. that was what happened in the last 24, 48 hours. hard to know. raj. we know that all this stuff about drugs has come out. we know that the musk has been put in a much less
7:09 pm
favorable light in terms of the way he thinks he ought to be looked at. we also know that you have two huge egos here, and with those two egos, only one can really be supreme. and i think that, more than anything else is what's happened with these two guys. they're just not room for them both to dance in the same place. i don't think many people are surprised that this relationship has gone south, but maybe are surprised in terms of the pace of what's happening. larry gerston appreciate your time and your perspective. another big headline now, undocumented migrants being detained here in the bay area. for the past week, we've been reporting many adults were detained. now, according to immigration attorneys, four children were picked up. the attorneys say federal agents detained at least 15 people yesterday outside the immigration and customs enforcement building in san francisco. we're told they were there for a scheduled check in. once advocacy groups learned of the detentions, they rallied outside the office. today, attorneys spent most of the day trying to determine exactly how
7:10 pm
many people were taken yesterday and where they're being held. they believe the group includes three separate groups of moms and children. some of those who attended their check ins again had received last minute orders from ice to show up, not expecting that they would be detained. and after spending periods of time complying with their conditions, others were detained without having any deportation orders. still, being in the midst of hearings for citizenship. yeah, there's a lot of activity here. yesterday we saw federal agents detaining people in san jose. this was near the chavez market. and last week, ice walked four men out of a san francisco court in handcuffs. similar actions in concord as well. let's bring in nbc and telemundo reporter andres brendel. andres, a lot of moving parts here. first and foremost, what's the level of fear, if you can guesstimate here in the immigrant community in the bay area? well, people
7:11 pm
are fearful. i'm going to tell you a story. last week, after the four people were detained outside the immigration court in san francisco, one colombian dad and mom holding their two three year old baby came to me. they saw that i worked for telemundo and nbc and asked me, are ice agents inside? and it's just not the question. it's what's happening inside their minds, their hearts, because they know they are going inside the building. what they don't know is once they exit the building, are they going to be detained? are they going to be separated? and with all these operations that ice have been making, well, that's the fear that many undocumented immigrants have now. they are very, very scared. andres, who's exactly as far as you know, is being detained in san francisco and why? well, the problem here is we don't have a lot of answers that we need to have. we've contacted, for
7:12 pm
example, we got in touch with ice today asking for information regarding these 15 people they detained, including four minors. according to the rapid response from san francisco. we still have to hear from them. there's just not a lot of answers at this moment. and that's worry for, you know, activists and laers as well, and the community as well. you've spoken to a lot of people surrounding this. these detainments here, including that one of the sisters of one of the detainees. what does she have to tell you? well, she's also super fearful. she didn't even want to disclose. where are they from? where do they live? she just says that it's just not fair for them. she said her sister just works. she has a small kid, and according to her account, when they were detetained, wl, the kid, you know, slept on the floor. apparently they were cold. and, you know, she she ys, like most of the undocumented people here, they just come here to work to forge
7:13 pm
a better future for them and their family. we hear the commercials. we hear the rhetoric coming from the white house saying the federal officials saying some people or many people should self-deport is that even an option that people are talking about here? no. the majority of the people that i see that i meet, they actually want to they want to stay here and they want to obey the laws. they want to go through the two process that the country gives them. so, you know, they still are risking, you know, their family, their freedom, because they if they have an appointment at court, they have to show up because if not, they're breaking the law. so they're in this dilemma that they say it's just totally unfair and creates a lot of stress within the family, within the community. it's just very emotional for so many people involved. andres brendel, a reporter for nbc and telemundo. thank you andres, let's move on. now we are seeing visible community support for a livermore father detained by ice agents last week. last night, people rallied for miguel angel
7:14 pm
lopez lujan, his wife and one of his daughters joined us on this program on monday. he's he's holding it together. i just tell him to be patient. we're going to try our best to bring him home. this is something i, i never thought my family or i would have to experience or go through. so it's very, very hard. but we're trying to stay strong, be confident, positive that we'll get him back home with the family. yeah. right now her father is being detained at a federal facility near bakersfield and they're from the east bay. you can watch the rest of this interview, along with more of our reporting on federal immigration action in the bay area. you can watch it on our app and at nbcbayarea.com. up next, walnut creek, tracking your next visit to better tap into tourism, we'll explain how this is working. also, take a sip. sonoma county wineries now

called arrival list. it uses anonymous mobile location data to help cities understand who's visiting. the chamber president says it will let them know if visitors stayed at the hotel or attended an event. they can then use that info to effectively advertise to tourists to bring in business and fill the hotels. some say, though, they're not comfortable having their movements tracked by comings and goings, and it's just an invasion of privacy, i think. i don't care for it. i just don't. we can be able to tell where people came from, how long they spent time here to help us determine where we spend our marketing dollars. the chamber of commerce insists no identifying personal information is being gathered and that the dadata is not being sold. and ty say you can opt out by simply logging into your phone's privacy settings and turning off your location. okay. what a start for our wnba team. so much excitement for the valkyries. they just did something no other
7:19 pm
wnba team has ever done. they sold out their first three games. that's about 18,000 per game at chase center. now, a pair of sonoma county wineries are getting in on the action. la crema in windsor and jay vineyards in healdsburg are the official wine partners of the valkyries. in addition to selling their wine at chase center, the wineries will also host special events geared towards the team and of course, towards the fans. let's bring in morgan curry with la crema wines. morgan, thanks for being with us. are you surprised by the fan support so far with the valkyries? oh, not at all. i think we could feel it building. we actually signed on to be a sponsor before they even had a team name. so we've been an early, early partner of the bay area, standing up the very first wnba team, and it's been exciting the entire time. you know, i think we were amazed to see them break a season ticket. ticket record, you know, even before their first game. so i would say the wnba and women's
7:20 pm
sports is here. it's exciting and we're excited to be a partner in all the action. okay. i will give you credit for that. you were an og with this franchise. why partner with the valkyries? what is the fan base? how does it resonate with your clientele and your wines? yeah, well, you know, it's our job to bring wine to new consumers, right? and we see that there is high energy, that the wnba and the valkyries are the crossroads of like, sports and fashion and culture. these fans are digitally savvy. so we can, you know, integrate our wine into the stadium, but also when they're on their phones or when they're at home watching the game. there's a valkyries game on tonight. you know, they're playing the mercury. so yeah, it's the perfect opportunity to bring wine to a new fan base. maggie, this is not a cute story of a small, underfunded team here. you know, this is big business. it's a joe lacob owned team. ken la crema make money with this partnership. yeah. so
7:21 pm
all signs are that this type of partnership works. sports marketing works in wine. and we're seeing it because not only are the stadiums themselves trying to elevate their experience and stadium, i will tell you a hot tip chardonnay and a glass chardonnay in a glass with valkyries. popcorn is a killer pairing. but yeah, it's us being able to activate locally, like in the bay area where the valkyries mean something, right? and you're aligning your brand. and we're seeing excitement in the grocery stores and restaurants, in the sports bars and the hotels around chase center. and so, yeah, we're learning a lot, but all things are pointing to a great execution and positive results. very interesting. is this happening with other wha franchises or is it here with the valkyries? in big part because of this is wine country? well, we had to be part of standing up a wnba team in our backyard, right? but we about a year ago became an official league partner with the wnba. we are also partners with the
7:22 pm
mercury and the indiana fever. and so we're learning as we go. i still feel like we're new into the game with the wnba, but it's a rocket ship. i think their stats are like 103% increase in their fans since 2019. so we find ourselves right in the rocket ship moment of elevating women in sports. and then this captivated and expanding audience. it's great for wine. it seems fascinating. okay, before we wrap it up here, what are we drinking when we come visit your winery away from chase center? yeah, my favorite is la crema, russian river pinot noir from sara lee's vineyards. but i do i do pair with what i'm having for dinner that night. so sometimes it's the russian river chardonnay, sometimes it's the sonoma coast chardonnay, sometimes it's the sauvignon blanc or the cabernet. so you know, yeah, you never know. you're a good person to know. maggie curry with la crema wines. thank you. and good luck with this partnership. yeah. thank you so much. let's take you outside now. live. look at
