right now at 11:00, students and families calling attention to racist slurs they say were written in a yearbook of a south bay high school. the morgan hill unified school district now says it's investigating, but the students who brought attention to this issue say they're the ones facing discipline. all of this comes just as seniors are preparing to walk the stage tomorrow. nbc's alyssa gore joins us now from morgan hill with this exclusive story. high school students here are preparing for their graduation tomorrow, and some of them tell us that they're outraged by what was written in their peers yearbooks. it's the end of the school year at ann sobrato high, and students are penning yearbook notes to one another. one student, who didn't want to be identified, tells us. last week she took this photo of a yearbook. we've added the

blurring. there are several entries where students signed using the n-word and other slurs, and one student drew a swastika. when i heard that this had happened, i was completely appalled. jess says she learned about this from her younger sister, who goeso school there and was also upset. it seemed like people were writing this in each other's yearbooks as some sort of joke, but it's something that should absolutely be taken seriously. the student who spoke with us says another friend posted the photo she took on social media. she says they both were asked by the school to write reflections on why they did what they did, and their parents were notified. in a statement, the district says it's investigating the allegations and that it does not tolerate hate speech or the use of racial slurs in any form. there is no place for hate in morgan hill, and speaking up against it is our right. jess, some community groups and other students are pressing the district to hold those who wrote the offensive words in the yearbook more accountable. it

doesn't stay harmless. it grows and it becomes normalized. and that's not okay. they say it's especially concerning in light of other local incidents, like a swastika flag that was hung on a one on one overpass earlier this year in morgan hill. alyssa goard nbc bay area news. okay, what are we going to see tomorrow? today we saw the relationship between president trump and elon musk implode. a very public feud between the two billionaires, musk even going so far as agreeing that president trump should be impeached and replaced with vice president jd vance. the feud sending tesla stock down nearly 15%, wiping out $150 billion in market value. here's nbc's audrey asistio. tonight. the stunning public breakup elon and i had a great relationship. i don't know if we will anymore. i was surprised. just days after that lavish oval office sendoff. he

did a fantastic job. i expect to remain a friend and an advisor. president trump and his once top ally, elon musk, now in a nasty public feud. i'm very disappointed in elon. i've helped elon a lot. it all started this morning when the president was asked about the former doge leader's criticism of his so-called big beautiful bill, which extends the trump 2017 tax cuts and eliminates taxes on tips and overtime, musk slamming it, saying it spends too much. elon knew the inner workings of this bill better than almost anybody sitting here. the president, who recently showed off his tesla at the white house saying musk's opposition began because the bill eliminates electric vehicle tax credits, which hurts musk's business. he had no problem with it. all of a sudden he had a problem, and he only developed the problem when he found out that we're going to have to cut the ev mandate. musk responding in real time on x false. this bill was never shown to me even once. moments later, writing whatever keep the ev solar

incentive cuts in the bill, but ditch the mountain of disgusting pork. nbc pressed trump about musk's criticism, and this is the guy you put in charge of cutting spending. should people not take him seriously about spending now? are you saying this is all sour grapes? no. he worked hard and he did a good job. and i'll be honest, i think he misses the place people leave my administration and they love us. and then at some point they miss it so badly. and some of them embrace it and some of them actually become hostile. i don't know what it is. it's sort of trump derangement syndrome. all of it. a sudden shift for musk, who enthusiastically campaigned for trump. president trump must win to preserve the constitution. today, the president is suggesting he would have won in 2024 without the support of the world's richest man. i think i would have won. he would say. i would have won pennsylvania easily anyway. minutes later, musk firing back, writing without me, trump would have lost the election. such

ingratitude. and this afternoon, the war of words escalating even further. president trump posting elon was wearing thin. i asked him to leave. i took away his ev mandate and he just went crazy. and that the easiest way to save money in our budget, billions and billions of dollars, is to terminate elon's governmental subsidies and contracts. musk then writing time to drop the really big bomb. trump is in the epstein files. that is the real reason they have not been made public. musk offered no evidence to back up his accusation, and nothing made public has implicated trump, who has denied any involvement in epstein's criminal behavior. the white house did not respond to musk's claim. political analyst larry gerston tonight weighing in. president trump is correct in that musk did know what was in the bill. we know this because back in december, musk said, it's okay if we get rid of all those things of the ev benefit. musk has been put in a much less favorable light in terms of the way he thinks he ought to be

president's agenda. and now she's joining a group of uc berkeley professors filing a lawsuit this week against the trump administration and other federal agencies over federal cuts to research funding. a uc berkeley spokesperson tells nbc that faculty members have every right to pursue litigation on their own behalf, but the university is making it clear that theylay no role in this lawsuit. claudia polsky is a law professor at uc berkeley who is representing the group of faculty members and claims the termination of research funding is unconstitutional and a violation of free speech. anything related to dei or transgender or gender issues generally, or climate that clearly seem to be the basis of terminating some of these awards. but a spokesman for the white house says research grants are not a government entitlement that is guaranteed byby t first amendment. polsky says a motion has also been filed to certify the suit as a class action lawsuit, opening it up to other uc researchers. but some legal

analysts say that could be a challenge. the trump administration is going to argue that eacach researcher and their grant is very different and needs to be looked at individually, not as a class action in berkeley. pete suratos, nbc bay area news. new at 11 two teenagers facing hate crime charges after disrupting a pride event in san mateo county. it happened last night at redwood city's annual pride flag raising at the courthouse square. this is video from tonight. police say the 213 year olds threw fireworks into the crowd and shouted homophobic slurs. one person was hurt. police arrested one of the teenagers last night, the other one tonight. both taken to the county youth services center. a follow up tonight. a father calling it a miracle. tonight we're hearing from the dad of the young child hurt when a massive oak tree c came down on the car in the peninsula where he was sitting. happened yesterday in san mateo. the tree snapped. fell onto two cars outside the green fashion nursery on seventh avenue.

jose. investigators say the man attacked two women as they walked on the trail. sjp isn't saying much more about how about the arrests right now, but the department plans to release more information tomorrow. two men have been arrested in connection to an armed robbery in san jose. it happened back on march 23rd. san jose pd say the man was walking on phelan avenue around 230 in the morning, when he was approached by three men. those men pointed their guns, they say, at the victim and robbed him. they took off with $40,000 worth of items from that victim. investigators later arrested two of the suspects. joseph rico was arrested in ■mountain house. julian lomita stockton. police are still looking for the third man. we're back in 60s ahead. tracking tourists in walnut creek. why? the city is teaming up with the tech company to try to figure out where they're going. what about the privacy concerns? also, the removal process begins. but the san mateo county sheriff isn't backing down. why? the board of supervisors is agreeing to keep

hale county today, another major step to oust the embattled sheriff, christina corpus. supervisors voted unanimously to deliver an official notice of intent, but the sheriff remains defiant. here's nbc's robert honda. in a tense special meeting called by the board of supervisors, supervisors considered sending sheriff christina corpus an official notice of intent to remove her from office. some of the public testimony criticized the board for waiting too long to take action, which led to the long removal process. the damage had already been done to the sheriff's office, to public safety, and to the voters ability to trust the county's management. the sheriff's legal

team objected to the public discussion, so the board went into closed session to discuss the allegations of misconduct and abuse of power detailed in numerous investigations, including one by retired judge ladoris cordell. board members emerged and voted unanimously to proceed, but after the sheriff's objection agreed not to make the notice or its details public. they have a motive. they clearly want me out of office for speaking up for what is right. i am here today because standing tall. because i know what is right. i've done nothing wrong. crime is down. this rhetoric of public safety is at risk is an agenda by certain individuals, certain groups. one community group was upset. the notice will not be made public. i think it was probably get messy given their constraints and putting the pressure on the evidence that they continue withhold. but more importantly for from the public standpoint, if she's

innocent, why not release the report? so even though a pre-removal hearing is scheduled in five days, the sheriff's legal team made it clearar its next legal moves will push that hearing further down the road. in redwood city, robert honda, nbc bay area news. okay, the next time you're in walnut creek, you could be tracked by the chamber of commerce. it is using tracking technology to boost tourism. walnut creek chamber teamed up with location intelligence platform called arrival list. it uses anonymous mobile location data to help cities understand who's visiting. chamber president says it will let them know if visitors stayed at a hotel or attended an event. they can then use that information more effectively to advertise to tourists to bring in business and fill hotels. some say they're not comfortable with having their movements tracked by comings and goings, and it's just an invasion of privacy, i think. i don't care for it. i just don't. we can be able to tell where people came from, how long they spent time here to help us determine where we spend
1:54 am
our marketing dollars. the chamber insists no identifying personal information is being gathered in. the data isn't being sold. they also say you can opt out by simply logging into your phone's privacy settings and turning off your location. okay, the days of free parking in golden gate park may be numbered. mayor lurie is considering charging for parking right now. curbside parking inside the park is difficult to find sometimes, but it is free. the mayor's proposal would add a charge of 2 to $4 an hour. the city's rec and parks department actually suggested the parking fee. the department faces deficit that could grow past $16 million over the next two years. supervisors would nee to approve the change, and if they do, the parking fee would take effect and not until after 2027. watch your speed in san jose. another town hall meeting tonight to discuss the new traffic cameras the city will install for red light cameras in july as part of a one year pilot
1:55 am
program. then, a separate five year pilot program calls for speed cameras at 33 locations across san jose as soon as this fall. that rollout is still in limbo pending the approval of federal fus. tonight, the last community forum was held, with many supporting the cameras. police can't be everywhere all the time, so if we're going to catch speeders and prevent traffic accidents, i'm all for it. let's go. red light violators will face fines of more than $400. fines for speeding will range between 50 and $500. all right. let's bring in jeff right now. talk about if we're going to keep these temperatures in these 80s that we've been having. i think we're on a pretty good streak here. this weather continuing for the next several days. in fact, we'll get a ten day forecast in here for you in just a bit. but as far as it goes for tomorrow, we have this area of high pressure keeping the main storm track well to the north. but this system right here, it's sneaking in from the south and it's going to help to keep this

fog going at the coast. let me show you more details on that. in your microclimate weather. and we are into friday tomorrow weeks moving by kind of quick. and as we started off on your friday morning, we'll begin with another round here. some low clouds, chance of some spotty drizzle near the coastline. but look, most of this clears back by 10:00 in the morning. then through the afternoon. we'll see that split picture here. fog at the coast and then sunny weather. once you get away from the coastline. so this will set up some widespread temperatures anywhere from 50 to 80. but i think overall a beautiful day coming our way that's going to start. everybody down here in the 50s for tomorrow morning, 57 in the peninsula, south bay, stepping out the door in the early side. you'll be at 56 out here to the north bay, the chilliest at 52. and double fives back here towards the east bay by the afternoon. no need for any kind of jacket whatsoever in the south bay. our numbers going back up into the 80s. we're coming in here, downtown san jose with 82, los gatos 83, morgan hill 85. out
1:57 am
here to the east bay. you're going to fremont. we're at 8076 here in hayward. then you cross over those east bay hills. we're up to 84 in concord, 83 here in danville, out to the coastline with that foggy breeze, 62 here in half moon bay, 60 in daly city, right here to redwood city. 77 san francisco, 60s across the board from the marina down towards ingleside and for the north bay, up into wine country. i have some mid to upper 70s, so temperatures near average for tomorrow. but how about the next ten days? well, we're still looking at what could be for different areas of upper low pressure. so if this plays out just like i have it here through the next ten days, that would keep some cooler air just to the north of us and keep that hottest desert air away. so i think you're going to really like this result here for june. this is some pretty incredible weather, will keep us some 70s and 80s here in concord, which can be one of our hottest locations. so even looking into next week, looks like we have plenty of 70s on the board for
1:58 am
us. let's take it into that 7-day forecast. you can see in san francisco we're in the 60s next several days, 50s for morning temperatures and 60s for those afternoon highs with morning fog and afternoon sunshine. and right here for the inland valleys. we're going to 87 saturday, 88 sunday. and we'll be in those midid 80s through next week. so fire danger is always elevated this time of year. but if we can keep with this trend it's certainly going to keep extreme fire danger away, at least right now. and that certainly is good stuff for us. best part of the forecast. and we're 40 nutes away, by the way, from friday. all right. we're almost there. but yeah thanks jeff. up next a swift water rescue in south lake tahoe. look at that. how that jeep got stuck in the middle of a fast moving river. that's bad. and we have jimmy. hey, everyone. sydney sweeney, andrew reynolds, nick kroll are here for a new game called one breath trivia plus, we have
