posted on x that the feds are taking over and deploying 2000 california national guard soldiers to los angeles. the governor is not in favor of the decision. he's calling it purposely inflammatory and says it will erode public trust. now. oh my god. now, this was the view that reporters had of what appears to be la county sheriffs breaking up a large crowd in paramount with less than lethal weapons and tear gas. the protesters are out there because of ice raids yesterday in the city. the sheriff says they were called in after protesters threw objects at federal agents. let's go now to nbc's steve patterson with another angle on the demonstration. yeah, another day, another flashpoint between protesters and authorities. the tensions still happening as we speak. but this all really started this morning across the street from a home depot. that's

the 30th annual pink triangle. patrick carney is the pink triangles co-founder, and it's so important to remember our history. in fact, part of appreciating and understanding and celebrating any pride is knowing where you've been. and this giant pink triangle is exactly where we've been. the pink triangle began as a symbol of persecution, a mark used by the nazi regime to identify and dehumanize lgbtq plus people. but here on this hill, san francisco has transformed it into a beacon of pride. some spoke about what they say is at stake in the current political climate in the country. trans people have increasingly been persecuted in this country over the last five years. we have to be in this for the long run to defend our community, to defend healthcare, to defend democracy, to defend our immigrant neighbors. happy birthday to

you. there was music, too, and some people said a real uplifting sense of togetherness that feels even more timely. yeah, they always do. and to hear the things and to see the people and the solidarity. in san francisco. christie smith, nbc bay area news. just into our newsroom, the chp is investigating a deadly head-on crash in sonoma. one person is dead and a mother and her two children are in the hospital with major injuries. it happened last night around 630 on state route 121ear the sonoma raceway, the chp says. for unknown reasons, a lexus crossed into oncoming traffic and hit another car head on. the driver of the lexus died at the hospital. he was the only person in that car. the woman and her 15 year old son and 11 year old daughter were in the other car. chp officers are out in full force this weekend in salinas. e officers increasing patrols starting at 6:00 this morning, all to catch drivers who are

being reckless and speeding. the maximum enforcement period is happening through tonight and will end early tomorrow morning. san francisco's iconic fisherman's wharf is going to look a lot different very soon. a decades old seafood restaurant is going to be demolished. alioto's restaurant has been an iconic piece of fisherman's wharf for almost 80 years, but closed in 2020. now the empty building is going to be torn down, all part of the city's $10 million plan to refresh the area. the old building will be replaced by a public plaza. the san francisco port agency expects to complete the first phase of the project next year. our thom jensen is there at fisherman's wharf right now talking to businesses and tourists. he'll have a full report for us tonight at 11. in santa cruz, work is being done this weekend to remove debris from the broken wharf. pieces of the wharf fell into the ocean last year after a storm cracked the wooden beams. broken parts have still been floating in the water for months. while the city has waited for calm conditions.

but this weekend the city, along with the coast guard and a construction company, began the process of removing the pieces. teams are working carefully to make sure the removal process is environmentally safe. and it's been a long process o of six months of planning and ensuring a perfect weather window and getting the tugs all coordinated and getting the schedule right. so that's why we're out here today, finally getting the crane piece out of the water. as long as some of the woody debris piles as well. the city parks department is currently working on a new design for the end of the wharf. it expects to design to be finished within the next few months, with an aim to construction finished by next spring. independence day, less than a month away, and officials in san mateo are working to get illegal fireworks off the street. fireworks are illegal in unincorporated san mateo county, so in order to encourage people to get rid of them, san mateo is buying back fireworks. the county says it collected 82 pounds of illegal fireworks and explosives. just today. we want people to have a good time. we

all different ages, and it's been a great day. it's one of those things where we can get together with the community. america makes a fantastic job of making sure that kids have an opportunity to be able not to develop just what they can do on the field and mentally and their exercise, but also what they can do with writing, with expressing themselves through poetry. this is the third one that we organized with america's course. and if you don't believe me, that it's been a blast. let's listen to some of the participants that tell us that. i love that you can like, like, play with your friends. it's free and it's not competitive until you're like around middle school. but i just feel like it makes me feel happy when i play. and. yeah. and did they start at 1:00? but we're closing down with almost the finals. that's why some of the older guys are back here to play on those finals for the older group. also the younger kids that will also be getting a trophy will always

going to bring you everything that happened. we're going to have who was the winner, how they lived it, of course, but it's the most important part here in the community. with san rafael being able to have all these kids have a fantastic day. and also, as you mentioned, when we're almost a year out to the world cup. great. carlos, thank you very much. several jewish organizations have dropped out of san diego pride because oakland native kehlani is performing. they claim she has made several anti-semitic comments. the jewish federation of san diego president says all 31 of the city's jewish organizations are pulling their support from this year's pride parade. they say it is because kehlani is the event's headliner. the jewish federation says it has collected posts from kehlani's social media pages. one says dismantle israel, eradicate zionism. many in the community say although they want to support pride, they feel unsafe with kalani's presence. these are groups who want to be at pride. these these organizations, many of them have marched in pride for decades. i don't want to feel like members

of our community are isolated just because of one artist that wants to si here, especially when it's a pride parade that's supposed to be about inclusion. earlier this week, kehlani dropped out of performing for so sf. the san francisco pride block party organizers say it was an amicable decision. she has not commented. those music festival in san francisco today, but we can't tell you the venue because the venue is simply, simply people's porches. it's going up. your old lady just going down. how cool is that? today was the annual s.f. porch fest live music festival where bands play on porches, front stoops, driveways, bacards and at some businesses throughout the mission district. this year, there were 74 bands across 13 venues. organizers say it is their gift to san francisco. it's really a day just to enjoy your neighborhood, build community, meet your neighbors, meet people you never knew before. it was awesome playing

in the street because usually we're playing in some kind of venue. it's just cool being in like an open area like this. beth gould beth gould co-founded porch fest in 2015, is open to all genres, all ages, and it is all free. what a spectacular way to spend a beautiful day in the city. a beautiful day turning a little chilly, right? yeah. you saw some folks in jackets over there. we had temperatures in san francisco running in the low 60s today, and with the wind probably didn't feel that warm. and some of that wind also keeping our inland temperatures down to start the weekend, especially placesike, well, let's say livermore, you saw a high today of about 82 degrees. well, it's not too bad, considering last weekend it was 100 degrees. we had heat advisories last saturday. nothing of the sort today. look at santa rosa. just 75 degrees. 82 in concord, 72 in san jose. and those cooler, low 60s around san francisco. sunshine right now, 71 degrees. pleasant evening around the santa clara valley, 77 degrees in walnut

creek after the low 80s earlier and now down into the upper 60s in san rafael. and as you drive down past the golden gate bridge into san francisco, a low cloud blanket is already waiting for you. 58 degrees and low clouds now spreading across the bay to oakland, driven by that sea breeze which is really kept our temperatures down. but once you pass solano county, not much ocean air conditioning there as you get into sacramento. still 90s inland, but comfortably cool around the bay area. in fact, slightly cooler than 24 hours ago thanks to the fact the wind speeds have picked up off that cool pacific ocean, gusting from 20 to 30mph. a little less wind tomorrow, and i think more so by monday. that will allow our inland temperatures to make a run at the mid and upper 80s early in the new week. right now you can see all the low clouds already moving across the bay. what has our attention though? thunderstorms around the sierra. none of this has been getting closer to the bay area, but during the day tomorrow, high clouds, remnant moisture essentially from those weakening thunderstorms could drift our

way into the afternoon. although the best chance of any showers likely stays north of lake county. so tomorrow morning we wake up to the low clouds, some spotty drizzle and a few areas, and then you got sunshine and a few of those high clouds drifting in from the east during the day. so morning temperatures starting off in the 50s and our highs tomorrow about the same as what we had today, mid to upper 70s around san jose, mid 80s in reach around morgan hill, 80 out towards vacaville and fairfield and upper 70s around santa rosa. now notice monday the maps changing colors a little bit, a little more red. showing up with 80s in san jose, upper 80s near 90 in vacaville. right now, monday looks to be the warmest day with some 80s around the north bay valleys, 60s and 70s from san francisco to oakland. and really, not much change from tuesday into wednesday with upper 70s to low 80s. but now thursday and friday, some cooling showing up as this trough of low pressure approaches the coast. shower chances again staying to the north, but that's going to crank up the sea breeze again and allow our temperatures to drop

off as we approach next weekend. so waking up to some areas of low clouds, some drizzle for the morning. san francisco kind of stuck in the 60s as we go through the week. a little bit warmer monday and tuesday, and valley temperatures, which have been mostly in the 70s to low 80s, rebound slightly tomorrow. right now, loo like monday and tuesday will be the warmest days of the week, with temperatures climbing into the mid to upper 80s inland, but pretty close to the averages. nothing too extreme setting up in that 7-day forecast. looking very summer-like. it is. rob, thank you very much. a big event returning to san jose tomorrow. see the route for the viva cal and which road is going car free. plus we just told you about a year away until the world cup coming to the bay area. several matches will be played next june, so get ready as we celebrate the passion of soccer, watch our nbc bay area special tomorrow at 4:30 p.m.

the riveter world war ii home front national historical park is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year. in honor of that milestone, the park and its partner organization, the rosie the riveter trust, hosted a rosie rally. 11 actual rosies were in attendance, the youngest being 99 and the oldest recently turned 104. t youngest one's 99, so there's not a lot of people left to tell their stories. so i think it's really great that the park is here and continues that tradition and shares those stories that we won't we won't be able to hear for much longer. so to preserve that for the next generation is really special. county supervisor john gioia was among the attendees. people young and old are eager to meet the rosie's, many stuck around to have them autographed. autographed. that iconic rosie the riveter poster. so working to find dogs forever homes while also having a little weekend fun. today was berkeley's annual pints for paws. the 11th year of the event, it celebrates

shelter's dogs while also hosting a beer and wine festival for the community. the event raises funds for berkeley humane's medical and adoption program, while also showcasing some of the animals for adoption for california's adopt a pet day. berkeley humane's mission is to save the lives of animals, and in order to help get them adopted, we must first make sure they're medically healthy. and the medical program is actually quite expensive. so fundraisers like this help bring the resources in order to make that happen. this year was a huge success. they had 47 animals for adoption and they all found their forever homes. they drank some beer there. they drank some beers at the ballpark and had a fun way to end the day, especially at the end. the giants win in dramatic walk off fashion. how matt chapman and his teammates celebrated. i'm not sure if it was with beer after his game winning home run to announce sports is next.

back on bay area waters today. fishing for salmon. the state has reopened recreational salmon fishing this weekend. it was banned in 2023 and 2024 to allow the salmon population to recover after years of decline. it is great news for several angler anglers we talked to who have been itching to get back out there for more than just the fish. the salmon tastes great. i've probably been fishing in the ocean for about 40 years now, a little over 40 years. i grew up with my brothers and yeah, got a lot of great memories, and now i want to pass it on to, you know, my kids. so if you're wondering how long the season is open, there's a statewide 7000 chinook salmon summer harvest guideline. if the limit is not met this weekend, the state will open up other weekends for salmon fishing this summer. thank you so much for joining us. the three of us will

be back vianey arana: thank you for joining us. i'm meteorologist vianey arana. here at "nbc bay area," we're tracking our "climate in crisis" all year long. now, earth day highlighted the work and changes happening, but it extends beyond just one day of action. science shows us that our planet is warming at an alarming rate from the burning of fossil fuels to deforestation and microplastic pollution. the impacts are being felt around the world, and one of the big headlines so far in 2025 were the wildfires that ravaged southern california. now, the latest numbers say 30 people were killed and more than 90 square miles were burned. dry vegetation exasperated the dangerous conditions, with many parts of southern california experiencing severe drought. for the area, it was the driest start to the rainy season on record, and the driest nine-month period also on record. when the santa ana winds hit with gusts reaching 50 to 80
