state's governor since the civil rights era. what we saw yesterday happened after the president's unnecessary, counterproductive and most importantly, unlawful order. meanwhile, president trump says many of the violent protesters in l.a. are professional agitators and bad people. it's lucky for the people in los angeles and in calornia that we did what we did. we got it just in time. it's still simmering a little bit, but not very much. then the president took it a step further, saying he agreed with his border czar, who has said governor newsom should be arrested. when asked today what crime did newsom commit, the president had this to say. i think his primarily primary crime is running for governor because he's done such a bad job. what he's done to that state is like what biden did to this country, and that's pretty bad. it's a wrong philosophy. the governor did not mince words when responding to

demonstrators in los angeles also vandalized five waymo cars, setting some on fire. waymo says it's avoiding potential protest areas out of an abundance of caution. this is the first day of president trump's new travel ban. it bars most people from a dozen countries, from traveling here to the united states. tonight, organizations are pushing back, calling the ban illegal and discriminatory. let's bring in nbc bay area's velena jones, who joins us from city hall in san francisco, velena. well, that's right. you know, we were at a press conference that wrapped up about an hour ago where dozens of people filled the steps here at city hall. they are condemning multiple actions by the trump administration. and tonight they are vowing to stay vocal and fight back. at america's airports today. a new rule about who can and can't enter america. president trump's new order banning most travelers from a dozen mostly muslim countries into the u.s. and adding

opinion, he's doing the right thing. we've got to be careful who's coming in and where are they coming from. but immigrant rights organizatns disagree and are calling the ban illegal and racist, pointing out that the majority of the restrictions affect middle eastern and african countries. we are here to say that no matter where, no matter how trump and his administration targets any vulnerable community, we will show up. this afternoon, several organizations opposing the trump administration's travel ban and immigration enforcement held a rally on the steps of san francisco city hall. they're vowing to resist and protect immigrant communities. elected leaders are also promising tdo the same. you are a wannabe king anchored in hatred. and if you arehinking of targeting a single one of my residents in district five, the families, the children or the seniors, you're going to have to come through me first. supervisor mahmood plans

to introduce legislation to fully support the right to protest at tomorrow's board of supervisors meeting. he also plans to work with the public defender's office to expand the immigrant defense unit. and these organizations note that this is going to be a long battle that they're willing to take on. reporting live in san francisco, velena jones, nbc bay area news. thank you. jeff is here now to talk about our weather as we start the week. we know it's a little foggy in the city right now. it is in that fog is really helping us from getting too hot out here across the bay area. but we're also tracking several systems ase move through this week, and that will also help our temperatures here in the extended. let me show you more details on this. as we started off. right now we can show you the low clouds coming on in at the coastline. so that's already dropping us to 71 in santa rosa, chilly, 59 san francisco, even san jose down to 69. and we're dropping here to some low 70s concord and livermore after getting into those 80s. so what we're really looking at here as we head through tomorrow is two
6:19 pm
different weather systems. we have this area of low pressure to the north that has some colder air with it. and then we've got high pressure to the south that has some relatively warm to hot air. now this area of high pressure is going to basically buffer this system to the north from moving in too much, but we're really left with the best result. we'll get kind of grazed by that system. and it's just going to help to keep temperatures near average. so i think we're really looking at some excellent weather here in our tuesday forecast. we'll start it off with some low clouds, fog, drizzle at the coastline. we'll see some of this. hang on. i think at this point through about 10:00 in the morning near the coast, the bay, the north bay, and then the majority of us will get under that sunshine, except if you're headed to the coastline or san francisco, we'll see that fog linger at times. so this means tomorrow morning we are back down to the 50s. as you head out the door, maybe you're getting yourself to work or the kids off to summer camp. whatever is going on in your world here. temperatures will begin here in the 50s to start, so you'll need some sort of jacket. 57 in the
6:20 pm
east bay and 53 in the north bay. but numbers are going to warm up relatively quickly as you'll see down here across the south bay. it's going to bring us back to the 70s and 80s with 79 in cupertino, 83 in san jose, out here to the east bay, you're in hayward, 69, and then you head over the east bay hills. we're at 82 in danville, up to 83 in concord. no 80s for the peninsula, but you'll be close down here towards palo alto at 79. and then as you head up the northern peninsula, we'll drop it down to 59. in daly city, plenty of 50s and 60s here through san francisco and for the north bay, coming in at 80 in napa, 78 sonoma and 69 in mill valley. so here is the deal. not one, not two, not three, but four different areas of upper low pressure passing to the north the next seven days. so that will continue to keep that hottest desert air away. so we're just kind of easing into june the way it looks now, livermore with some 70s and 80s for the most part next ten days, except next wednesday we get up
6:21 pm
to 90. but again it would drop after that. so as you're out and about enjoying the sunshine, i did want to show you the uv index. it will be up to a powerful ten tomorrow, so make sure to wear the hat, the sunglasses and spf 30 certainly helps right here on that 7-day forecast. san francisco in the 60s for highs with that morning fog pattern next several days. and for the inland valleys we're in the low to mid 80s right into this upcoming weekend. this is a ten on the scale of things for sure. that's great. yeah it's a good way to start it. thank you jeff. up next here at 6:00, several software updates for apple unveiled at its annual worldwide developers conference happening right now in cupertino. the new ai capabilities coming to your iphone.
