marines are joining the effort to quell the violence that erupted over the weekend in downtown los angeles, sent there by president trump. i think it would have been a very bad situation. it was heading in the wrong direction. it's now heading in the right direction. the marines joined thousands of national guard troops called up against the wishes of california governor gavin newsom and los angeles mayor karen bass. there was no reason for them to be here in the first place. if anything, it was a provocation. california now asking the courts to send the military home. trump and hegseth ignored law enforcement's expertise and guidance and trampled over our state's california's sovereignty. the city was burning. governor newsom did nothing. the mayor did nothing. so president trump, god bless him, he sent the national guard in to save property and save lives out of. mayor bass, now urging the trump administration to stop the immigration raids taking place throughout the area, which sparked the violent

great weather that we are seeing. it has been pretty awesome for most spots, but of course we do have our microclimates. and if you've been getting outside enjoying the cooler weather, watch out for the pollen again. today i wanted to show you the pollen count that is moderate for all of tree pollen, pine pollen as well as grass pollen that's really been kicking up here lately. as we get a look at walnut creek, we are starting out with some low clouds and some higher clouds. all of this clears out within the next couple of hours, but helps cool us down. we have just enough of a breeze to make it feel cool. with temperatures in the mid 50s, we should start to see a little bit more sun around 9 to 10:00. as we typically see everything's right on schedule and our temperatures are headed right towards our normal highs in the upper 70s. for parts of the east bay, it will be 79 for the high temperature in concord and 84 in fairfield and in the south county. it's still going to be warm this afternoon. the cool ocean breeze that we're getting from the coastline, and

the fog transports across the peninsula into the east bay, but it will be blocked by the hills in the south counties, so it's still going to be pretty toasty there for morgan hill to gilroy. and tomorrow we could see some slight cooling there, while the rest of the bay area stays very mild and cool for san francisco and half moon bay, along with up and down the coastline. it's been dry, so let's check in on our reservoirs. as we get deeper into summer, we kind of deplete that water supply as we go month after month without rainfall. but we're doing pretty well. we're at 90% of capacity for the four largest reservoirs across northern california. and so despite having a very dry southern california winter in norcal, we are seeing a pretty good amount of water storage there in our reservoirs. looking at livermore today, the next few days, it looks really nice here. highs in the upper 70s. it's not until the middle of next week when the heat comes back, so we're enjoying at least several more days of near normal or

today in the bay. turning now to our climate in crisis. you may be dealing with some unwanted visitors in your home. pests. so experts say mild winters let them adapt enough to survive. and now they're looking for somewhere to crawl into cooler places. and there's actually a pest map for the summer that a local pest control company has published. and for us here in california, we especially need to watch out for carpenter ants and mosquitoes in the bay area. depending on your microclimate, you may have issues with flies, rodents, cockroaches, yellow jackets, and or wasps. and we spoke with zach smith of smith's pest management, who explained why after a mild winter. it's not just a creepy crawlies, but flies that could show up at your summer barbecue. the lifespan of a fly, for example, is dictated

santa ana. this followed the protests outside of the city's federal building, including about 1000 people. but then police declared an unlawful assembly there. now there's no word of an exact number of people takenen into custody. and it all comes as president trump announces plans to send 2000 additional troops to los angeles. that's on top of the 2000 already deployed 700 marines, also still waiting to be called into action. los angeles mayor karen bass spoke with our la affiliate by phone last night. she believes l.a. is part of a white house experiment with deeper implications. i think that that we are a test case to what happens if the federal government decides to take power from a governor and to take over a city. i think we are the laboratory rats right now for the administration, and i don't think our city should be played with. governor newsom and state attorney general r bonta filed a new lawsuit against the

didn't represent the larger, peaceful protest. several people were arrested and at least two were taken away by ambulance. san francisco did call in officers from other departments for mutual aid. and this is what you're seeing at union square. some of the store windows boarded up and others had extra security in anticipation of possible looting. now, that was a contrast to the peaceful march through the mission, through most of the afternoon and early evening, where both the again, the san francisco mayor and interim chief said that the group was larger and peaceful on sunday and then sunday's protest, about 2000 people chanted their support for la and decried trump administration immigration tactics. this is all being done in peace and we're not trying here to harm anyone, but here to raise our voice and raise the voice of those who are oppressed. are we traitors to this country because we protest like that is where i take issue now. at the rally in san jose, a

lot of parents brought their children to city hall trying to send the message that trump's immigration policies are terrorizing and tearing families apart. inside city hall, people shared their experiences as several community groups also asked the city council to set aside at least $1.5 million for legal assistance in the community. now, later this evening, people will gather in oakland for an interfaith vigil at fruitvale plaza to show their support as well. and we're hoping things will remain peaceful. marcus. all right. thank you, chris, and we will continue to follow the latest in la and right here in the bay area on air, as well as on our website. for online updates, go to nbcbayarea.com and click on la protest in the bar at the top of that homepage. happening today, a judge will hear arguments on the controversial clearing of a berkeley encampment. today's hearing will focus on a possible preliminary injunction for an encampment on eighth and harrison. that's

where the city conducted a surprise sweep last wednesday. about 40 unhoused residents were left scrambling. some people told us their belongings were taken or destroyed. a judge later ordered the city to immediately halt the sweep, citing a lack of prior notice. but the city argues people there were warned in february about what is now an expired restraining order. in san jose, also today, leaders are scheduled to vote on mayor matt mahan budget proposal to expand enforcement against the unhoused. his responsibility to shelter initiative would allow for the arrest or the hospitalization of people on the street who refuse offers of shelter three times over an 18 month period. it would also expand outreach efforts and create a new police unit to enforce the policy. critics blasted the plan, saying it further criminalizes homelessness and claiming the city lacks enough shelter beds. a live look near the richmond san rafael bridge toll plaza.

this is where drivers should expect more delays this week between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. the closure will run through friday. this all comes after the bridge was shut down last week due to a falling concrete in the upper deck. that forced emergency repairs and prompted the agency to close lanes in both directions. want to check in with meteorologist kari hall right now? because she's checking in with both what's happening on those roads as well as with our forecast? yes, sometimes they're connected, and so we're seeing at least clear visibility. things look good in the south bay and we are starting out cloudy. but as we take a look at our trend over the next few hours, it will go from cloudy to some peeks of sunshine at 8:00 and temperatures climbing into the 60s. we should be all clear by 10:00 and the rest of the day is sunny as we keep the comfortable highs headed for the mid to upper 70s today. zoom into the south bay shows that temperatures even in the south bay will range from 76 in milpitas to 86 in morgan hill, and anywhere from mid 60s in oakland to low 80s for antioch.
6:39 am
so we are still seeing, just depending on your microclimate, some cool weather near the coast and very warm temperatures for the inland valleys. getting out on the roads this morning. we've seen so far just a few minor incidents. nothing major at this point. even the accident that was moving on. 580 as you're coming outut of the north bay ad heading through it, looks like it hasn't caused any major delays for the east bay. we are seeing it slow down. coming on 680, going southbound as you pass through dublin and heading into fremont. we've seen it slowing down there as well on highway four coming through the delta. so as of now, things are flowing as they normally do on a tuesday. back to you. well, coming up on today in the bay, president trump says la would have burned down without him. his critics say he's fanning the flames out to the big board this morning. we're really waiting a lot on any word of us-china trade relations and we're not getting it. so you see that not much is happening. well, just

for the people in los angeles and in california that we did what we did. we got it just in time. it's still simmering a little bit, but not very much. president trump has ordered u.s. marines into the city, posting just moments ago, the city would have burned to the ground if he hadn't sent troops. the president has also upped the number of national guard. critics say the president is inventing a crisis to justify the use of the military. pointing out the violence that you see on tv, or for that matter, in a graphic behind a reporter, are a few street corners and not a whole city. la's mayor says the lapd and the sheriff's department can handle it. i mean, we didn't need the national guard. why on earth what are they going to do? do you know what the national guard is doing now? they are guarding two buildings. they're guarding the federal building here in downtown, and they're guarding the federal building in westwood. that's what they're doing. so they need marines on top of it. i don't understand

of california is this while the national guard, including the 79th, normally reports to governor newsom, who can deploy them if he thinks there's an emergency, a president can federalize those troops and put them under the command of the pentagon, under title ten. presidents do not need a governor's approval, and they've done that before. most notably, president kennedy activating the alabama guard to help integrate the schools over the wishes of governor george wallace. those troops in that case, and in modern day, can only support law enforcement. they are not law enforcement. they have no power to arrest anyone under title ten. ginger. important facts. thanks, scott. well, tomorrow marks one year from what is promised to be the largest global soccer event ever. that is when an expanded world cup kicks off with 48 nations taking part. now soccer fans from around the world will descend on to north america and those venues including ours, levi stadium today in the bay's bob
