5:01 am
night, the governor's demands to people and the president as the federal forces flood the streets. and overnight here in the east bay, late night looters hit local stores in oakland. but that's after what you're seeing here, which was a largely peaceful protest and revising a controversial plan. the new changes, approved by san jose city council leaders to the mayor's proposal to crack down on the unhoused. this is today in the bay. and good morning to you on this wednesday. thanks for starting your morning with us. i'm marcus washington and i'm kris sanchez in for laura garcia. we're going to check in with cinthia who's in for mike today. but we're also going to look at that forecast as folks try to plan around the summer. yeah. and at least the weather is nice and quiet. we've seen more of the same conditions day after day. a live look outside in san jose where we will start out with some clouds once again
5:02 am
this morning. and we are going to see those temperatures start out at 55 degrees as you head out the door. and then throughout the day seeing some clearing. and we're headed for the low 60s at 10:00 and then upper 60s at noon. today, our high temperature makes it up to 75 degrees. very nice and comfortable for san jose, and even slightly cooler for the south county where we've been making it into the mid to upper 80s and thenn upp 70s in the forecast for concord and 78 degrees in santa rosa. so we'll be watching the nice mild temperatures continue. cinthia, you've been watching a couple of things already for the roads. yeah, we've got some new video just in kari. so thanks to daniel, our photographer out there, it is a deadly crash. you can see right there lots of police cars investigating this. what we know right now, latest information that we were able to gather was that it was a car into a tree. and unfortunately, two people did pass away. so it is in the 800 block of toll road just south of history park. it's a really local closure, so we
5:03 am
don't see anything being picked up on the sensors, just kind of avoid that area. if you do live nearby so that the police officers can do their work. i'll continue to follow the rest of the bay area roadways and get back to you with any trouble spots that i notice. all right. we know you will. thank you. cinthia. well, as immigration raids continue across the country, a curfew went into effect overnight in los angeles. and these are the scenes that we have seen playing out within the last 24 hours across the country. there you see the different places, including l.a, oakland, you saw denver there in oakland, marchers and protesters gathered expressing their anger and their frustration over immigration crackdowns. but after several nights of violence, the streets in l.a. were mostly quiet. last night, following a curfew that was instituted by the city's mayor. this comes as governor gavin newsom is issuing a scathing message to president trump in a rare evening address. speaking directly to californians, he is once again calling out the deployment of thousands of
5:04 am
members of the national guard and the sending of hundreds of marines to l.a. the governor had this to say about the administration's tactics. democracy is next. democracy is under assault before our eyes. this moment, we have feared, has arrived. president trump continues to double down on his actions today in the bay's chris pollone joins us live from washington. and, chris, 700 marines now arriving on the streets of l.a. yeah, chris. that's right. and sources tell us that those marines could be providing transportation and protection for ice agents as ongoing raids on immigration continue throughout los angeles, the streets of downtown los angeles largely quiet overnight after the city's mayor instituted a mandatory curfew. it followed another day of protests against widespread federal immigration raids. california governor gavin newsom condemned the violent
5:05 am
confrontations between protesters and police, which started friday. i want to be clear about this. if you incite violence or destroy our communities, you're going to be held to account. but newsom once again accused president trump of making the situation worse. the president sending thousands of national guard troops and hundreds of marines to l.a. against the wishes of state and local leaders. newsom now suing to send them home. he again chose escalation. he chose more force. he chose theatrics over public safety. we do not want our streets militarized by our own armed forces. not in la, not in california, not anywhere. speaking to soldiers in north carolina, president trump defended the deployments. but we didn't do this. los angeles would burn. it would be burning to the ground right now, just like the houses burned to the ground just a few months ago on capitol hill, democrats pressed defense secretary pete hegseth on the price tag for the national guard deployment. could the secretary please address the budget? thank you. you asked
5:06 am
about the situation in los angeles, and we believe ice agents should be allowed to be safe in doing their operations. the pentagon revealing it will cost roughly $134 million. and it appears the trump administration will soon target other cities. should people expect to see similar operations in the rest of the country. and now, two sources tell nbc news that ice special response teams will soon be deployed to five cities across the country run by democratic leadership. we're told those five cities are seattle, chicago, new york, philadelphia and here in washington, d.c, although it's unclear if or when ice raids will begin in those areas. chris, we've certainly seen some very active ice activity in san francisco just happening yesterday in front of our cameras. but going back to the national guard, we know that california has sued to stop the national guard, get them out of california, stop the militarization. part of the
5:07 am
problem is that we don't know how long they're supposed to be here. right? president t trump, when asked that yesterday, said, when there's no danger, they'll go home. of course, it seems like it's up to him when there's no danger. and with the lawsuit that the governor and thehe stae has filed against the federal government, it will be interesting to see whether there's time for it to be adjudicated or whether the president will order those troops home before it even makes it through the courts. okay, we know you'll keep following it. thank you very much. chris pollone in washington, dc. oakland police this morning. still not confirming if late night looting at a fruitvale store is connected to earlier protests in that same area. now, video from that scene showing a large group of people rushing that store. this is on 34th and international leaving with that merchandise. witnesses say looters used a sledgehammer to break in. now the video also shows a nearby car set on fire. you see right here. now, this was all shot at around 9 p.m. this all happened just steps from where a peaceful protest wrapped up a short time earlier,
5:08 am
organized by faith leaders and attended by hundreds, vigil organizers are vowing to continue holding similar protests and so-called safe spaces, including one scheduled for saturday in downtown oakland. our thom jensen will have a full report on the latest developments in our next half hour. the city of san jose is going forward with a new plan to address the city's homeless crisis, though that plan is largely revised. city council members yesterday approved an amended version of mayor matt mahan's responsibility to shelter initiative. it now does not include a provision calling for the arrest of unhoused people who refuse shelter three times in 18 months. that was one of the more controversial parts. instead, refusing shelter will be considered a code of conduct violation. the council did approve more outreach teams and a dedicated police unit to monitor encampments. here's one advocate for the unhoused talking about the impact. it will have a negative one in a multitude of ways. one, you already have a community that
5:09 am
doesn't want to talk to the city or the county. two, you will have people that are forced into treatment. mayor matt mahan is calling this initiative an important step forward, saying it gives the city new tools to require treatment for those who need it the most. this ordinance now takes effect next month. taking a live look this morning out. this is downtown san jose, i believe. yeah, look, it's lit up with the pride colors that it is. all right, well, let's get moving with a look at that forecast for us today. kari you know what for a quick moment i saw the full moon. then i looked over again and it was gone. well, it's probably the fog that i was at my house waking me up. it was super bright this morning. if you can see the moon and we're starting out with low clouds and fog over san francisco, in san rafael, the visibility is clear, the clouds are higher up, and we're looking good. so maybe you can see the moon there. it's at 52 degrees and throughout the day, and we're going to see the sky
5:10 am
clearing once again. very nice and mild weather with a cool breeze keeping the coastal areas cool while the valleys will be nice and mild. highs in the mid to upper 70s and cynthia's been following not only the traffic but gas prices. sure am this morning. good morning kari. good morning everyone. well these prices are coming to us from gasbuddy.com. if you see something cheaper on the roads let me know on social media. we'll get it up on the board. we're going to start in the north bay with $4.05 for a gallon of regular in mill valley, off of 101 at the arco gas station. now, it was a close second when we went over to union city with 409 at the gas station off of 80 at alvarado boulevard, and our final price a little bit higher than both of these. it's 425 in san mateo at the arco on delaware street, sandwiched right between 82 or 101 from the pumps to the roads. let's check on traffic. we told you at the top of the hour that we are following this fatal crash down here in san jose around holly. it's going to be
5:11 am
quite a bit of hours. while police make their investigations on the car that went to the tree right there. toll road eastbound is closed from galveston avenue to center road. we'll keep an eye on it throughout the morning hours. marcus and chris, thank you very much, cinthia. well, tesla is rolling out new robotaxi service. ahead here on today in the bay. the promises ceo elon musk is making, which some say might miss the mark. we get important inflation numbers this morning. and also elon musk says maybe he took it too far out to the futures today. you know the investors are not all that impressed with the us china deal. we'll talk more about that as well. plus a game you just had to see. but if you missed it here it is. giants take on the rockies and we'll show you the way. the team closed it out which hasn't happened in three decades. keep it right here so you

day two, you will get important inflation numbers in about 15 minutes. google confirms it's offering buyout packages to some of its employees to reduce headcount, and it will ask any employee that lives within a 50 mile distance of a google office to come into work in person. tesla says it will have robot taxis on the streets of austin by june 22nd or so. tesla and elon musk make promises that miss their estimates all the time. musk said that teslas

hands of one person, one person, and one company. i mean, my daughter, 16 years old, and she's like, why are they doing this on social media? like, why is this back and forth? right? but yeah, one of the comments that i saw overnight was like, were you hacked? because it's like, oh, he's he's taking a lot of it back and deleting a lot of them. yeah. all right. thanks. you bet. san francisco giants doing something no baseball team has done in more than 35 years. so when marcus was a baby, and they're doing it rather dramatically last night in colorado, the giants were down five two to start the ninth inning. c casey schmidt hit a so home run, and then mike yastrzemski singled in the go ahead run. the giants come back to beat the rockies 6 to 5 for their sixth straight one run win. and the last time that happened, it was the 1989 california angels. well, this morning today is getting the background on a love story that
5:18 am
captured the hearts of more than 33 million people. yeah. one man's elaborate proposal going viral. let's take a look. you guys are great, right? we're trying to elevate kind of our candlelight brand. right? so parker's taking some photos. can i see if i can grab the musicians in here? just to try to get the whole. he's probably going to shoot some photos and maybe some candid video. are you ready? yeah. this is. my. man. and she said yes. so that was the moment luke everett proposed to his now fiancee, lauren, after attending the candlelight concert in san diego last month. he actually set this whole thing up, making the photographer act as if he was a man who just wanted to use the couple to take some publicity pictures. well, then you just saw right there the string quartet moved in, and the rest, as many people describe it, a fairy tale. so the man behind the camera is actually explaining what he
5:19 am
actually wanted to capture in this special moment. luke originally was just asking me to photograph the proposal. and i begged him. i was like, this is after hearing it, the whole story and his whole plan. i was like, please, please let me let me film this. and he did. okay, so it is worth noting that the song that the quartet was playing is love. this is from the avatar franchise. everett says that it is a song that they will walk down the aisle to, and you can see that full story by tuning in to today. that's ahead for you at 7:00 this morning, right after us here on today in the bay. the guests go to the wedding and it's all super low key, like barefoot in the barn or something. they're like, what happened here? i know, they actually have an event like that. the candlelight event over in oakland. coming up on the. oh, yeah, they've been kind of traveling around in a lot of cities. and so i've been seeing that online as well. so if you have some plans for proposal, you know that might be the place to see it. it looks really cool. all right. well let's get
5:20 am
started with this weather this morning. it's wednesday. we're making it through the week with some weather that's been kind of holding steady day after day. so here we are, back to the low to mid 50s this morning in a cloudy start. as we've seen for at least the past couple of weeks. but i think for the most part we'll take it. we've had a wide range in our microclimates, so it reay just depends on where you are as to what kind of weather you'll experience. i know it's been cold and foggy near the coast, and probably not the best of beach days. half moon bay will stay in the 50s, and you're not going to see much sunshine today. while the south bay is going to be sunny and very mild headed for the mid 70s in san jose and even some low 80s for the south county, a little bit cooler for parts of the east bay and in oakland will stay in the mid 60s with a high of 78. in danville, walnut creek and concord will be in the upper 70s low 70s for palo alto and in san francisco. another chilly day in the north bay will be in the mid to upper 70s for the most part. now looking at san
5:21 am
jose, we are expecting a bit of a warm up throu the middle of next week, but no extreme heat in the forecast and our temperatures for some of our warmer spots in parts like santa clara valley as well as the tri-valley, are headed for the low to mid 80s through at least the weekend, and san francisco will see more highs in the upper 60s. cinthia, you have alert and alert for bart riders. yeah, and it's for all of my riders that go from the east bay down into the peninsula. it's the red line. bart says. no red line this morning from richmond to millbrae. so some alternatives for you. you can use the orange or the yellow lines, make some transfers there or use the shuttles. more of that information of course, on ba.gov. the rest of the roadway still looking pretty quiet. we'll keep an eye on it as the morning goes on. back to you. thanks, cinthia. next on today in the bay, a look at san francisco's controversial budget plan. here's senior investigator bigad jobeth. the budget will make homelessness worse, not better. tough talk in san francisco, stemming from the mayor's roughly $16 billion

financial plan for the city. i'm senior investigative reporter bigad shaban. we investigate why some fear the budget could push

nonprofit organizations from across san francisco will gather on the steps of city hall. they're rallying against deep cuts made by the mayor and his recent unveiling city budget. a
5:25 am
senior investigative reporter, bigad shaban, explains exactly what they are protesting and why they believe the mayor's financial plan for the city could lead to a spike in unhoused people. yeah, well, this all stems from san francisco's shortfall over the next two years. we're talking about a budget deficit of roughly $800 million. fewer tourists and more empty office spaceeans less money. city hall has to spend now on the chopping block is free legal aid for families struggling with everything from wage theft to unpaid child support. the mayor's proposing to eliminate that program as part of a slew of cuts included in his roughly $16 billion budget. it's called civil legal services. a $4 million effort to offer free legal representation for a wide range of issues, including family law, discrimination and poor living conditions in rental units. now offering free legal assistance to help people secure
5:26 am
money they're owed or keep housing that's rightfully theirs, has been proven to prevent some families from becoming homeless. that's according to studies across the country. but san francisco's mayor, in his just released budget, is proposing to eliminat the program. the mayor's office says its plan allocates an extra $90 million in previously unused funds for homeless services. but supporters of the free legal aid program say it's often a more cost effective way of attacking the crisis. so if you prevent people from becoming homeless, they don't develop that trauma, and then they don't need all of the supportive services that people who are homeless need. so as far as taxpayers are concerned, it becomes less costly to solve, far less costly. i mean, it's not even like apples or oranges. it's like one tenth the cost. well, the city's police and fire departments are each getting a more than $20 million boost in their budgets. the city's public works department is losing more than $26 million, though the
5:27 am
mayor's office says funding for street cleaning will remain intact. all across city government, about 100 workers are expected to lose their jobs and more than 1300 vacant positions will be cut to. that is, if the mayor's budget is approved by the city's supervisors. we reached out to all 11 members of the board to find out if they support restoring funding for civil legal services. to see how they responded, just log on to our website to watch our in-depth investigation. that's nbcbayarea.com. bigad. nbc bay area news. we investigate. thanks for that. all right. next here on today in the bay, nbc bay area responds a new look at where homeowners and renters insurance rates are going up the most. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura. we'll map it out next. plus, in a speech aimed at the nation, governor newsom blasts president trump for his

deployment of u.s. troops in southern california. and president trump doubles down once again. we've got a full update coming up in a live you have something none of us have. audiences give, 'how to train your dragon' an a. oh, oh, we're okay. toothless no. it's working. whoa. yeah! it's... you ready?

more force. he chose theatrics over public safety. right now, at 530, governor gavin newsom condemns federal intervention in los angeles at the protest there, calling it an assault on

democracy. the governor's harsh words for president trump as he urges for peaceful resistance. as a curfew kicked in overnight. plus, from l.a. to the bay, those protests against ice continue across the state, and the tense moments between protesters and agents right here at home. also, teachers in the south bay plan to rally over major cuts and layoffs. the demands they have as leaders are facing multimillion dollar deficits. this is today in the bay. thanks for joining us on this wednesday morning i'm kris sanchez. i'm in for laura garcia and i'm marcus washington. let's get you caught up with that forecast this morning. meteorologist kari hall is tracking what we can expect as we head out there. a foggy start pretty much across the bay this morning. yeah. so we're starting out with our marine layer, those morning clouds that are going to at times linger through some of the coastal areas in the morning. and a live look at the golden gate bridge. very light traffic there, at least for now. i see the zipper truck there
5:32 am
moving the cones in the center divide, and as we head down to union city, we're starting out with some mid 50s. and yes, it's a cloudy morning, but we'll shape up to be nice and sunny by the early afternoon. and we're headed for the low 70s for fremont as well as dublin and mid 60s for san francisco. and cinthia, you're saying the bay bridge looks good? yeah, we're about ten minutes from the typical start of the metering lights, but we were talking about how traffic is starting to look a little different now as kids are getting out of school. we see this light right there through the toll plaza, so we'll see if the metering lights turn on at about 540. the rest of the bay area is looking good. we talked about the situation down here in san jose. officers are taking care of that by toll road. the only crash i have right now is counter commute eastbound 580 right there through the altamont pass greenville road offramp. we'll take a look if that impacts us the other direction. kris and marcus. all right. thank you, cinthia. well, governor newsom turning up the heat on president trump and his deployment of u.s.

troops in southern california. authoritarian regimes begin by targeting people who are least able to defend themselves, but they do not stop there. trump and his loyalists, they thrive on division because it allows them to take more power and exert even more control. so this is happening as a late night curfew goes into effect in downtown la following days of chaotic protests. now, the governor is also calling for protesters to demonstrate lawfully. today in the bay's thom jensen is live for us this morning. and tom, the angry anger really certainly goe far beyond la. it actually also includes a new response right here at home in the bay area. that's right. good morning. and he also said the governor did that and he was speaking to a national audience because he said, this is not just about los angeles. he said if the president is capable of deploying troops to southern california like he has, he's capable of deploying troops
5:34 am
anywhere. he did urge peace. but even as he was urging for peaceful protests and obeying the laws, there was more vandalism and looting overnight in oakland. it all followe a peaceful protest nearby last night in fruitvale, witnesses say people used a sledgehammer to smash the doors of a store near 34th and international. video shows people running off with merchandise, and a nearby car was set on fire. police are so far not confirming looting or any arrests of the protests that were there, but it's all been fueled by this the detainment of undocumented migrants outside courthouses, something we've been covering in the bay area for a few weeks now. it happened again yesterday in san francisco and in concord, and led to tense moments between citizens and alleged ice agents outside immigration courts, where lawyers say several asylum seekers were detained. the governor says president trump is intentionally fanning the flames. we're seeing unmarked cars, unmarked cars in school
5:35 am
parking lots, kids afraid of attending their own graduation. donald trump's government isn't protecting our communities. they're traumatizing our communities. and that seems to be the entire point. president trump called newsom incompetent, and he says the use of hundreds of national guard troops and 700 marines is justified because the governor and the mayor of la are incapable of keeping the peace. he doubled down this morning, saying that homes would be set on fire if he hadn't sent the military in. he called the protesters agitators and troublemakers. but newsom says donald trump is breaking the law with his military deployment on u.s. soil, and he urged congress to hold the president accountable. he said. protesters who break the law. though newsom did, they will be held accountable. we're live in san francisco, thom jensen, today in the bay. all right. thank you, tom. well, now to california's home insurance crisis. state farm's controversial new emergency rate hike is kicking in. and new this morning. we
5:36 am
have a fresh analysis of the extra cost that families will now have to pay, right down to the zip code. consumer investigator chris chmura got a first look. the center for climate integrity created some new maps that plot out where state farm's new homeowners and renters rates are going up the most. take a look. the darker the color you see on this california map, the more people are paying. analysts say where the zip codes outlined in black people are now paying state farm more than 50% more than they did just two years ago. on first glance, it looks like the bay area was spared the brunt, yes, but not totally spared, the analysts say policyholders in the lighter color areas are still paying state farm up to 35% more than in 2023. statewide, the center for climate integrity estimates that average state farm home policy is costing an extra $737. the insurance crisis is the is the

blasting those cuts, which take effect next month when the school year starts. about 250 people lost their jobs, which leaders attributed to declining enrollment and a multimillion dollar budget deficit. that plan was in the works even before widespread federal cututs we enacted and head start teachers the hardest. the union now is planning to demand those cuts be reversed. also today, oakland leaders will receive public feedback on the proposed changes to the city's budget plan. so last night, they laid out new details on the two year plan. the city now faces a $265 million budget deficit. council members say the proposed amendments include keeping all 25 city fire stations open, avoiding layoffs and investing in law enforcement. oakland's budget team will be leading today's meeting, taking a live look at san francisco. this morning, we see that it is off to a cool start and kari some folks around the bay also seeing a little bit of the fog. yeah,
5:39 am
so we're starting out this morning with some low clouds, and as we go through the next few hours, it clears away from the inland valleys by about 9 to 10:00, but will linger near the coast and keeping those temperatures much cooler. but we're all starting out with upper 40s and low 50s as we're starting out on this wednesday morning in gilroy. it's going to be partly cloudy at 8:00 and starting to clear temperatures in the mid 50s and then jumping up about ten degrees within two hours. so you can see the warm up there happens quickly as we make it into the low 80shis afternoon. and we'll see upper 70s for napa and santa rosa 78 degrees, while oakland will stay in the 60s and also upper 60s for hayward and 59 degrees today in half moon bay. so you can see the range in our microclimates. and cynthia's been tracking two alerts for bart riders. yeah, a couple minutes ago, kari i told everyone there was no red line service between richmond and millbrae. now we got another one saying there's no green line between daly city and west oakland. so we're going to find out what's going on with bart if
5:40 am
these were planned or if something's going on. but for the new one, this no green line, daly city to west oakland, you can use the blue or orange line, of course, make those transfers and use the shuttles. now let's talk about what might be going on in the east bay tomorrow and all of those weekend events. we're jumping forward. major league cricket. how interesting starts tomorrow at the oakland coliseum. we're going to see that run through the 18th. it's at 6 p.m. so expect some backups there as you move through 880 both directions just to make sure that everybody exits safely. then on saturday we've got the valkyries game at 530 there at chase center. expect some traffic through 281 on one, maybe taking the caltrain or biking to the chase center will be good. scott, over to you. all right. well, lots more still to come on today in the bay. we'll continue our coverage of the governor and trump versus newsom. cricket coming to the coliseum ahead here on today in the bay. the historic bay area debut and the way you can get in
5:41 am
on the action. and we are exactly one year out from world cup soccer here in the bay area. the celebrations to mark this majestic milestone.

but it does warm up quickly and by noon we're in the mid 70s and headed for the low 80s today. it will be a touch cooler than it was yesterday, but we are seeing a trend that keeps us mild, at least for most of our microclimates. we'll talk about the range and temperatures and what's ahead coming up. and we're looking at the richmond san rafael bridge. for a second i was like, where is everyone? but now the cars are starting to approach the toll plaza. it's a smooth commute, though, into marin county, just about a seven minute ride once you get past the tolls. 11 minutes to get yourself westbound over the bay bridge and 12 minutes over the san mateo bridge. i'm keeping an eye on all bay area roadways. we'll update you coming up. governor gavin newsom now saying president trump is a threat to democracy. scott mcgrew is with us right now. and scott newsom is actually also warning other states to be ready. yeah, that trump's feud with california could very well be a feud with michigan or massachusetts. our governor saying california was first, but other states are

next. this was a short speech over live stream. here's a couple of moments from it. he again chose escalation. he chose more force. he chose theatrics over public safety. democracy is next. democracy is under assault before our eyes. this moment we have feared, has arrived. the rule of law has increasingly been given way to the rule of don, the founding fathers. they didn't live and die to see this kind of moment. it's time for all of us to stand up. now, there are two ways of looking at this. one, newsom is standing up for democracy, or two, he's setting up a run for the white house. and it's entirely possible that both are perfectly true. la instituted a curfew for a section of downtown overnight. l.a. is not under curfew. roughly one square mile or 1/500 of la, is under curfew. the city
5:46 am
said it did not need a curfew before the federal troops arrived. and that goes to a central argument, is the presence of uniformed military on an american street, making things more or less calm. here's the president know it can only go right by having the military deescalate. that was the only way these people are agitators. they're troublemakers. rioters acting on the words of politicians like aoc and hakeem jeffries, are trying to stop this effort by burning storefronts and endangering the lives of patriotic law enforcement officers. the contrast could not be any more clear now. aoc, congresswoman alexandria ocasio-cortez has encouraged nothing of the sort, of course, and takes issue with her own democrats, saying that it's a delusion the democrats need to answer. for every teen that throws a rock, she says, and instead they should be holding trump accountable for

stoking the violence. president trump spent time yesterday at fort bragg, where he announced some military bases would go back to their original names after congress voted to rename them. during his first term, republicans and democrats alike voting to change the names that honored confederate soldiers. so from fort bragg to fort liberty, trump administratio changed it back to brag, but says it's a different guy named bragg who fought in the second world war. fort gordon was named after a man who took up arms against the united states. suspected member of the ku klux klan was renamed to fort eisenhower. it's going to go back to gordon, says trump. though the gordon who fought in somalia, his sacrifice documented so incredibly well in the book and movie black hawk down. marcus. thank you scott. well, get ready to be bowled over. cricket is coming to the bay area. yes. bowlers. bowlers there are. and batman are for

soccer matches. stanford stadium hosted several games during the 1994 world cup. that's where our own max cordero with telemundo, 48, spoke with hugo perez, who was on team usa soccer, the team usa soccer team during the 1994 world cup. hugo agrees that team usa will have an advantage as being the host country in 2026. the issue is going to become how much pressure they're going to have to perform well. i mean, 30 years ago, we took a big step in showing the world that we can compete, but now it's a little bit different. we have a lot of players playing in europe now, so people here are expecting that. our national team does well, at least to get into the quarterfinals or semifinals. but you know, you never know. i mean there's a there's more national teams coming this year. also the competition is tougher. but hopefully they'll do well. in
