the bay area. plus, pushing for a pursuit policy reform the rally east bay community community members are holding today. this comes as calls for justice grow after a teacher is killed following a pursuit chase. this is today in the bay. good thursday morning to you. thanks so much for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia, and i'm marcus washington. cinthia pimentel is in for mike this morning tracking that commute for us and meteorologist kari hall tracking that forecast for us. and guess what i saw today? what? the full moon. yeah. no fog is clear this morning for a lot of the bay area. we're still seeing the fog near the coast. and we're also all clear as we get a live look outside in walnut creek. and look at the temperature trend. this is where we will see a breezy wind to start temperatures in the mid 50s this morning. and then as we go throughout the day, we're headed for the upper 50s at 9:00. lots of sunshine and a nice warming trend that leads us into a very
5:02 am
comfortable day. we'll see a high of 75. in dublin it will be 83. in concord there will be a few inland spots that will be just a touch warmer compared to yesterday, but we're still enjoying some seasonable temperatures and highs in the upper 70s expected for novato, while san francisco will be in the upper 60s. we'll talk about what's ahead leading into the weekend. coming up. cinthia, you're starting over in sunol. yeah, because some people might notice just a little bit of slowing southbound. 680 getting to sunol. it was a crash right there just north of koopman. so just a little bit of a backup i. it's in the clearing stages already. so we're just going to watch for that as the morning goes on. and speaking of the morning going on still pretty quiet around the bay. oh i'm going to check out what's going on over here in san francisco and get back to you in my next hit. but overall everybody is looking good out there. 580 in dublin, it's just about a 26 minute drive right there. grant lane getting you over to 680. marcus and laura. all right. thank you cinthia. we begin this hour with breaking news. hundreds are feared dead. this

is after a crash of a boeing jumbo jet in india. now we're about to show you a video clip of that crash that nbc has already verified. but we should warn you, it may be difficult for some to watch. now, this happened around 1:30 p.m. local time in western india. this clip shows that air india 787 dreamliner plane wobbling as it descends before exploding into a huge fireball. now we know it crashed shortly after takeoff. and we also know that there were 242 people on board, none from the u.s. that flight was headed to london. now, video from the crash site shows the destruction and chaos there on the ground, and you can see a huge emergency response. at this point, the property is believed to be part of a medical school campus. right now, there are no numbers on casualties, either from the plane or on the ground. it is also too soon to know the cause of that crash. air india at this point is only confirming that its plane to gatwick airport was

involved in an incidt. of course, we will bring you more details as they come in this morning. the white house is doubling down on the need for marines and national guard in los angeles. this comes as ice raid protests continue there and across the nation. all eyes are now on san francisco. that's because today, a federal judge has scheduled a hearing on the state's restraining order request against the federal government. this is an attempt to block the trump administration from deploying the military to l.a. now, all of this comes ahead of president trump's military parade and birthday celebration in washington. lawmakers from both parties questioned the optics of the event and the price tag. today in the bay's chris maloney live for us in washington this morning with new details for us and chris. there's also planned protests across the country on saturday, the same day as the trump parade. yep. that's right marcus and laura, good morning to you. that parade and birthday celebration coming up here in the district. meanwhile, over in los angeles, after the second
5:05 am
consecutive night of a curfew overnight, it was largely quiet following a sixth straight day of anti ice protest, with ice protests erupting across the country, this one in seattle, where overnight police arrested several demonstrators. the epicenter remains los angeles, where thousands of national guard troops are keeping watch and 700 marines are poised to join them. democrats on capitol hill are questioning the president's motives. our marines are trained for combat in the indo-pacific, not for securing the streets of los angeles. president trump, insisting protests against ongoing immigration raids would have been much worse if he hadn't acted. they didn't have the police to handle it. the police were asking us to come in. state and local leaders say the situation was under control and accused the president of manufacturing a crisis. maybe we are part of a national experiment to determine how far the federal government can go in reaching in and taking over power. the rare military
5:06 am
activation in an american city comes as washington prepares for a big show of military might, as well. a parade celebrating the 250th anniversary of the army saturday on president trump's 79th birthday, with a price tag of up to $45 million. even some republicans wonder if it's worth it. never been a big fan of goose stepping soldiers in big tanks and missiles rolling down the street. so if you ask me, i wouldn't have. i wouldn't have done it. i would save the money. but it's, you know, if the president wants to have a parade, he's the president, and i'm not. the parade will feature more than 60 tanks rolling down constitution avenue and 6000 soldiers marching along. and the last time washington hosted a military parade, it was 1991 to celebrate the end of the gulf war. the price tag back then was about $12 million. what a difference many decades make. all right, chris pollone for us this morning, chris. thank you.

new overnight, new fears about a possible israeli strike in iran are prompting voluntary evacuations of u.s. embassies across the middle east. that includes iraq, along with embassies in bahrain, kuwait and united arab emirates. multiple sources tell nbc news an israeli strike could likely happen without american support or coordination, and may signal a break with the u.s. the u.s. and iran are hitting an impasse on nuclear talks. with concerns growing about iran possessing enough enriched uranium for civilian use. israeli leaders are not commenting. and new u.s. nuclear talks with iran are scheduled for this weekend. happening today, president trump is expected to reverse california's plan to phase out the sale of new gas powered cars. now, according to a post on x from roseville congressman kevin kiley, the president will sign the bill today. california has set its own emissions rules to ban the sale of all gas powered vehicles by the year
5:08 am
2035. president trump blocked the state's stricter admission rule during his first term. then former president biden reinstated them. the senate passed a bill blocking california's gas ban two weeks ago. the white house hasn't confirmed when the president would sign it into law. in just a few hours, we expect rallies in oakland as the community there is pushing for the california highway patrol to adhere to the oakland police pursuit policy when they're on city streets today in the bay's kris sanchez joining us from the newsroom this morning with that renewed call to hit the brakes here, chris, good morning to you, marcus and laura. so there's no question that we're going to hear the name of the bebeloved oakland teacher who dd recently as a result of a crash following a chp pursuit. this is marvin boomer. he was killed when a teenage driver who was evading officers from chp crashed. the chp had already called off that brief pursuit, but it was too late. eric hernanandez garcia lost control, hit a tree and then a hydrant.
5:09 am
marvin boomer was killed when the hydrant then hit him. now, this was not an oakland police pursuit policy, but as we know, the chp has been on the streets of oakland trying to help with certain crimes like sideshows and stolen cars. but they don't have to adhere to the policy. the oakland police policy was put into place in 2022, requiring officers to go no faster than 50mph unless they get other approval. the chp now is being asked to hold to that standard as well. there is going to be a rally today. it is largely organized by the anti-police terror project. there will be other community organizations there as well. that is happening at 11:00 this morning and at 430 this afternoon, when they will talk about the danger of pursuits on city streets. now, the opd policy was put into place after
5:10 am
police pursuits hit an all time high or a ten year high. and so we will see whether or not the chp will be listening to that. so oakland police chief floyd mitchell has said that he would like for the officers of his department to be able to pursue at higher speeds like the chp does. but the oakland police commission is now reviewing that request for a reversal of the policy, and we'll let you know what happens. marcus and laura, a lot to cover there. thank you. chris. thanks, chris. hey, let's take a live look outside overlooking san jose. look at that. the sun coming up this morning. kari has a look at our forecast. okay, i i'm a little t of it. what's. what does it look like here? it looks great. i mean, we've had the same weather since you've been gone for, like, at least two weeks. and it just really depends on your microclimate, where? we've had cool weather in san francisco and t the valleys have been comfortably warm. so we're looking at a morning start with our morning marine layer that we typically see this time of year,
5:11 am
and that will help keep those temperatures down. we're in the low to mid 50s to start. and a live look in palo alto, where we are at 54 degrees, clears out by 7 to 8:00. the rest of the day is sunny with a gradual climb in those temperatures, and we make it up to 75 degrees for a high. today it will be 77 in san jose and 79 in livermore. so we'll get a look at what we'll see going into the weekend. coming up, cinthia, saving you a little bit of money before you make that weekend road trip. yeah, because it's zenni friday kari. and i'm just trying my best here to save everybody some coins. first off, in union city yesterday it was 409 at national gas off of 80, but today down to 3.99. that's good. close second, but not so close. we'll go over to brentwood with 405 at the costco. and finally 406 down here in san jose at most stop on camden off of 85 if you're traveling through the area, if you see anything cheaper today, let me know through email, instagram, or even tiktok, you can find me pretty much anywhere to the roads. now let's go and check on what was going on in
5:12 am
san francisco that i talked about. it is southbound 280. they're saying some heavy machinery is required for this, and they're also going to the lake merced golf course to check if the car went down that way. otherwise, the sensors aren't looking too bad. so we'll keep an eye on that as the morning goes on. back to you. sounds good. thanks, cinthia. apple is adding new parental controls for teen users. ahead here on today in the bay, the new restriction parents will be able to add to their kids iphones plus fake minions, a lawsuit over despicable dupes. let's go out to the futures this morning. wall street didn't move around a lot yesterday, but certainly on fire today. we'll
5:15 am
past the hour. let's check out gilroy. we're starting out with a few clouds this morning. a nice, cool start. and temperatures in the low 50s at 8:00 at noon. we're in the low 70s. you see how quickly those temperatures ramp up? but we'll only make it into the low 80s today, which is very seasonable for mid june. we'll get a look ahead to the weekend with minor changes in our microclimate forecast coming up. and there's really no changes right here through the san mateo b bridge.i see a little bit of drizzle there on the windshield. so only thing to watch out for this morning. hey, if you leave right now, you'll make it pretty much under ten minutes across the richmond bridge, the bay bridge and the san mateo bridge. we'll get a look at the rest of the bay area and also ahead to the weekend coming up. well good
5:16 am
morning. very happy thursday to you. the washington post says the trump administration is going to target home depot, specifically as it looks for undocumented workers. day workers often wait for work outside the hardware store. not a lot of movement on the markets on wednesday, even after president trump said the white house had built a trade framework with china, there's not enough detail for investors. now, president trump says he'll set new tariff rates on other countries in the next two weeks. he often uses two weeks to mean sometimes in his first term, he said there would be a new, new health care plan two weeks away. several times we do expect stocks, though, to open in the red on the new threat. we'll get more inflation data today with the producer price index. yesterday, the consumer price index showed inflation slowing. the government gets that data by literally sending people into stores with clipboards to write down the price of tomatoes and a pound of chicken and a pair of socks. but the white house says it's sending fewer price
5:17 am
checkers in skipping some cities as the size of government shrinks. and that concerns analysts who dend on the data. so if we don't have very good data, then the chance of us making a policy mistake in terms of interest rate setting is higher. i think that when you have fewer data points, you're going to have less informational value in the data. a number of republicans calling for a boycott of walmart after a member of the walton family took out a full page ad in the new york times to promote no kings day this saturday, walmart points out christy walton is not employed by walmart, not on the company's board. disney, universal, fox pretty much all of hollywood are suing the company behind the artificial intelligence image generator midjourney, saying their characters, like mickey mouse or the minions belong to them, and midjourney is violating their copyrights not just by creating fake mickey mouse's or mickey

numbers. requests will appear in the messages app. and the parents can actually tap a button to approve or decline. apple is also launching a permission kit to let developers create a similar feature in their apps. the features are set to be approved with approved and arrived with ios 26 this fall. and you know what? big smile on our faces this morning. because we're happy. because laura is back. back from vacation there, traveling with the family. that's right. i traveled with the triplets and my sister. i went on a pilgrimage to italy. one of the places that we visited was the vatican, where we got to see the new pope, pope leo the 14th. take a look. he's right here. he's ght here. you're right. he's right there. he's right there. it was one of the most amazing moments to be able to share with my children, who are now 16 years old. i mean, to take this pilgrimage to see the new pontiff, to
5:20 am
celebrate mass there. we went to several different cities in this pilgrimage throughout italy, and it was one of the most memorable trips that i've ever taken in my life. i'm very blessed. i'm very thankful. that was in venice. that's beautiful. we went to siena and florence and we walked a lot, thank god, because i ate so much pasta and gelato every single day. i held up the tower. yeah, gotta do that right when you're there. and it was just wonderful. i got back last night, so, you know, if i'm a little jet lagged, but actually i'm doing pretty good. good. yeah, it was lovely. it really, really was. but i didn't post that much during my trip because i really want to enjoy the moment that i was in. yeah, be present. and i can't recommend that enough. i think we're just in this world of posting so often, but it was just and just going through some of the pictures now, so maybe i'll post later. yeah, i'm glad you got to experience that. thank you, thank you. yeah. without having to post everything. yeah. and it's great to have you back. thank you so much. you guys held
5:21 am
down the fort. yeah we did, we did. every day. every day. life goes on here too. you missed some great weather though. yeah. will it continue? yeah. it's going to continue into the weend at least into the start of next week. we're in the steady weather pattern where we're seeing our microclimates. microclimates. we are going to see the temperatures in dublin starting out with some mid 50s there and low clouds in san francisco. we have not been able to shake these clouds, but it's also given us some cool weather and actually helping out the rest of the bay area with that natural air conditioning, that westerly wind coming off of the coast and into the inland areas, we'll keep thehe weather really cool. while san francisco only makes it into the upper 60s in parts of the city today, if you're in the marina district, you're only going to stay in the 50s. so again this afternoon across the bay in oakland, where sunshine, will be in the low 70s, mid 70s for dublin and low 80s for concord, also 83 for santa rosa and 83 for morgan hill and san martin. tomorrow as
5:22 am
we go into the afternoon, it's about the same. temperatures may go up or down a degree or two, depending on where you are. and then on saturday, also looking at more of the same. so as we check out one of our usually warmer spots, fairfield, we're going to see highs in the low 80s into monday, but we are going to have a spike in temperatures through the middle of next week. and it's been a while since we've had temperatures in the 90s. but as of this point, as we look ahead in the models not expecting any triple digits. so that's the good news there. and we'll see temperatures in the upper 70s and low 80s throughout the weekend. mike. mike she's out. mike is out. cynthia is in. there's something going on in the east bay. yeah. hopefully mike is sleeping comfortable at home. we're in for him this morning and we're looking over on into highway four now. it's pretty local. there is a crash, a car went into a tree, and this is eastbound franklin canyon and goodfellow. so pretty local. but for my neighbors there, we could be looking at more of those
5:23 am
police sirens starting to come about. so we'll keep an eye on that. no impact to highway four and the commute direction. we'll keep an eye on the bay bridge 20 minutes from now. check if those metering lights come on back to you. that's good. thanks so much, cynthia. well, next here on today in the bay nbc bay area responds just hang up on a hotel concierge because it's probably just an imposter. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura. we'll tell you about that scam. plus give you an invitation learn aboutto
5:26 am
people about the concierge scam where thieves are pretending to be hotel concierges to try to fool you. basically, the imposters claim there's a problem with your payment method in your hotel profile for an upcoming stay. maybe, but it's just a ruse to get a hold of your credit card numbers. just hang up on the concierge, then call the hotel yourself to see if there's really a problem. we're not the only ones on the lookout for scams. so is aarp. and next wednesday, it's hosting a special event called the scam jam. well, what we're trying to do is really educate our community right in the bay area. we're such a wealthy community. there's a lot of people out there who fall victim of scams and crimes, and it's just a way of us to kind of educate the community about what's going on. aarp is lined up experts in law enforcement and consumer protection to get you smart about identity theft, romance scams, travel scams, veteran

right now at 530, a legal showdown between california and president trump's administration. the key hearing, set to play out in san francisco courtroom today as governor gavin newsom requests a restraining order against the federal government. all of this over the military and marine being sent into la following protests. also, a new covid variant believed to be more contagious than previous mutations is being closely monitored. the reported symptoms and the cases also coming to light. and today marks a big day in oakland, as cricket is set to make its debut at the coliseum. we're live with everything you
5:31 am
need to know. this is today in the bay. i'm a bowler. yeah, i learned that yesterday with cricket. look at you. i better stick to your day job, though. very much. you see how i did it? i'm like, watch out. good morning to you on this thursday. i'm marcus washington. i'm laura garcia. let's check the bowler cricket weather today. taking a look at the forecast with meteorologist kari hall. and we're starting out with low to mid 50s as you're heading out the door. some clouds early, but we know how it's been. it's going to start out cloudy. and then for some of our inland areas clear out a lot more quickly than what we'll see near the coastline. you can check out those low clouds over san francisco where it's 54 degrees. a light wind. and as we get a look at fremont, we're going to start out the morning for the commute. cloudy in the low 50s. jacket weather for now. but then as we go throughout the day, it becomes very comfortable with high temperatures in the mid 70s, a few spots from the south
5:32 am
county to the north bay will be in the low 80s, but mostly 70s on the map here with 60s near the coastline. we'll get a look ahead to the weekend forecast and some events going on as well. cinthia, you were saying there's a slow approach to the altamont pass? yeah, check it out. we see the slowing right there through mountain house. this is westbound 580. so the commute direction and for people waking up this early, not something you want to deal with. it is a large pothole. so says chp in the number two lane. some cars actually were impacted by this. they had to pull over. so if that is your direction in the next couple of minutes, half hour. watch out for that. it will be a slow approach and of course slowing through 580 to get you down into livermore and the rest of the valley, going down into san francisco. the sensors are picking up on this now. southbound 280. we talked about a crash right there by the lake merced golf course. there was some heavy duty included in this to get the car and find the person. they did find them, but they've got some injuries but being taken care of now. lauren
5:33 am
marcus, thank you very much. we do continue to follow breaking news this morning. the crash of a boeing 787 dreamliner in western india. hundreds are feared dead. these are images from the crash site, which is believed to be a part of a medical college. at this point, we know there were 242 people on board the air india plane, none believed to be american. nbc has verified video showing a huge fireball upon impact. the plane had just taken off. it was headed to london's gatwick airport a little after 1 p.m. local time. it's still not clear if the investigation has even started into how this all happened. we'll continue to monitor. well, the federal response to la's immigration protests facing a critical hearing today in san francisco, a judge may rule on the deployment of u.s. troops. the hearing itself centers around a temporary restraining order requested by governor newsom and the state attorney general.
5:34 am
today in the bay ginger conejero saab live for us in san francisco. and ginger, a ruling today would no doubt have major implications here. absolutely. marcus and laura, no matter what side you are on, a federal judge here in the city will decide later today how almost 5000 federal troops will be used. governor gavin newsom and state attorney general rob bonta filed suit on monday against president trump and defense secretary pete hegseth, arguing california never requested federal intervention. newsom is urging the court to grant emergency relief, preventing the national guard and active duty marines from taking part in local law enforcement actions. a rerestrainin order would not prevent u.s. troops from protecting the safety of federal buildings, but it would restrict participation in the enforcement of immigration laws and ice activity. any ruling today would likely set an immediate precedent in the event of federal actions elsewhere around
5:35 am
the nation that may include the no protests planned across the country this saturday. some 1500 demonstrations are being organized around the country to protest the military parade happening in dc, celebrating 250 years of the u.s. army and coinciding with president trump's birthday. bay area protesters are organizing no demonstrations, and local law enforcement is gearing up to avoid a repeat of recent tensions. this is from monday night in san francisco's mission district. a largely peaceful protest turned chaotic when splinter groups broke off and vandalized several businesses. then on tuesday night, things got rowdy in oakland once a peaceful rally ended, video showed people looting a shoe store and a car was lit on fire. yesterday, oakland mayor barbara lee addressed the violence, as did one concerned business owner. but when it comes to any type of violence, then we have
5:36 am
to say very clearly that is not going to be tolerated. protesters say your voice, do whatever you believe. believe in it, run with it. but there's ways to do it. and i think you're messing up businesses that spend millions of dollars, hundreds of thousands of their own hard earned money, and you're fighting for that and you're messing them up. it doesn't make any sense. governor newsom was on a podcast ahead of today's hearing. we'll have more on that in the next hour. for now, we're live in san francisco, ginger conejero saab. today in the bay. ginger. well, a chicago firefighter and paramedic is talking from his hospital bed this morning about the chaotic moments he experienced when he was seriously injured in a bay area triathlon. 35 year-old jose perez right now is paralyzed. he and doctors are hopeful he'll regain use of his limbs after emergency spinal surgery. he was injured 11 days ago during the escape from alcatraz triathlon..
5:37 am
it starts with swimmers jumping into the water from boats, and he says he was injured immediately after jumping in. i remember them telling me, hey, go, go. just jump, just jump. don't wait. just jump. literally my head was about to hit the surface. i just felt a big boom on the back of my neck, the back of my head, and it felt like an enormous weight. and immediately i just knew i'm paralyzed. another swimmer came to his aid, and he was quickly taken to a san francisco hospital. he says right now he's just focusing on getting better. the escape from alcatraz triathlon team did give us a statement which says, in part, while thousands of triathletes have enjoyed a safe experience over the past 40 plus years, we always riew safety plans and water safety measures after each race. it goes on to say the escape team is ready to support jose and his family, and we wish him a full recovery.
5:38 am
health experts are warning about what, for some patients, ian alarming symptom that may be tied to the latest covid variant. they're calling it razor blade throat. as you can expect, it's a sharp pain in the throat some describe as swallowing shattered glass. the latest variant is nicknamed nimbus, and now it's surging across asia and just starting to make its way into the u.s. with confirmed cases here in california. now, some researchers are linking those severe throat symptoms, while others say it may just be part of the latest wider viral strains. and experts say that it should not be resistant to happening tonight cricket, which is extremely popular outside the u.s, will make its debut in the east bay. and who better to tell us about it today in the bay's bob redell joining us live outside the fremont bart station this morning.. so inderstand bart is trying to work to get fans pretty excited about this. they are. good morning to laura marcus. yes, bart will be
5:39 am
running special fan trains from fremont bart here behind me tonight to get fans revved up for tonight's match. we'll have more on that in a moment. but yes, the san francisco unicorns. they'll take on the washington freedom tonight at the oakland coliseum. this will be the debut match for major league cricket season. yesterday we spoke with the league ceo, who tells us this will be the first time cricket has been played at this level on the west coast of america. the coliseum is one of three venues nationwide hosting major league cricket. as many here in the east bay are painfully aware, the coliseum used to host the raiders before that team left for vegas and most recently, the a's before that team left for sacramento. oakland mayor barbara lee talked about the magnitude of cricket coming to the town. i want to thank the league for investing 3 million into improving the fan and player experience at the coliseum. we are deeply grateful. that's jobs. that's economic activity. that's energy
5:40 am
and momentum for this part of town. and that's what our residents need the most. we are super excited to be here, and we're glad that we can expand this game of cricket that we all love to a different part of the united states. it's become very mainstream. we have youth leagues. we have. every field is filled with just people playing. and so they got their wickets. they got their jerseys. cricket has grown in his city, which again, we are here in fremont outsidee the bart station, where later this afternoon, a bart will run three fan trains to cheer on the san francisco unicorns. those trains leave at 435, 443 455 here from fremont bart, and they go to oakland coliseum bart, where they'll drop off fans in time for that 6:00 match. again, the san francisco unicorns taking on the washington freedom. that will be the first of nine matches to be played at the coliseum.
5:41 am

national guard. okay. scott mcgrew. the state says that the president's federalization of southern california unit was illegal. right. and this is going to be a tough case. good morning. we we've really never run into a situation exactly like this before. so there's little to no precedent to lean on. presidents certainly have the power to call up a state guard. but the laws say it's only under certain situations in this case, that localal law enforcement was not able to keep order. and that disorder interfered with the federal government's ability to enforce and carry out laws. california officials say that's absolutely not the case, that l.a. county has more than 17,000 law enforcement officers and needs just a fraction of those in the small areas where the protests are taking place. case in point, the justice department announced the arrest of some of the most violent protesters who threw rocks at local law enforcement, and they were arrested by law enforcement. the escalation of

violence by these rioters poses a serious threat to our agents and the safety of the public. throwing rocks, explosives, assaulting agents and committing other acts of violence are extremely dangerous and will not be tolerated. the vast majority of the protesters in l.a. and elsewhere are protesting peacefully, protesting the arrest of immigrants by masked, unnamed ice agents. this worker, actually a legal worker with a valid green card. california asked the judge for a restraining order to stop the federal government from using the military in l.a. that judge refused to do it immediately, which is what the state wanted, instead called for that hearing today. now, generally speaking, the courts are reluctant to stand in the way of a president's power to command the military. the democratic governors of minnesota, illinois and new york will testify before congress today in a q&a scheduled long before the latest trouble. tim walz, you know him from the campaign. pritzker from illinois talked about as a possible presidential candidate,

bewildered senator to say, this is the appropriations committee of the united states senate. we appropriate the money that you will spend kari. thanks, scott. now let's turn to our climate in crisis. there's a new documentary premiering tonight in the north bay about forest guardians trying to protect the amazon rainforest. just three. amazonia. the amazon rainforest is critical for the planet because it takes carbon from the atmosphere and serves as a home for so many species. and we spoke with the filmmakers who say the film is a small window into the lives of people risking everything to protect the amazon from invasion and deforestation, and you get to learn straight from them their wisdom and their culture as they're going out on these missions that are risking their lives. and also the other side, the indigenous logger, the

illegal loggers that are going out and invading the indigenous lands just to feed their families. and so it's a character driven story about the global implications of what's happening in the amazon. we're all guardians. we can all step up as guardians of our communities, of our localal forests, of the amazon as well. so yeah, please come join us. come check out the film, share about it. it's a really important issue. and it's amazing right now to have the guardians with us. they inspire me with so much hope and so much courage to step into what feels like really crazy times in our world. but i have a lot of hope because of them. the movie opens tonight in downtown san rafael with the directors, and some of the forest protectors will also be present. and there are showings in san francisco, santa cruz, san jose and sonoma later this month. we'll put a link to that info on our website, nbcbayarea.com. look for this story under the climate in crisis tab. marcus. all right. thanks so much. kari. well, this
