problem. this is today in the bay. good friday morning. the sound of friday. i'm marcus washington, and i'm laura garcia. we'll get a look at that friday morning commute for you in just a moment. but let's talk about the forecast with meteorologist kari hall. we've had some great weather and no changes heading into the weekend. so just depending on your microclimate, we're going to see a wide range in temperatures and sky conditions throughout the day and throughout the weekend across the bay area. here's a live look in san rafael. we're starting out with some clouds, but visibility is clear. at least the street level, and we will be clearing out quickly through the next couple of hours. starting out in the mid 40s right now will be in the upper 50s at 9:00 and then seeing the trend headed for the low 70s in the early afternoon. we'll see highs in the low 70s in parts of the north bay. novato will be 75. and in san jose, also looking at a high of 75 degrees. cinthia, you've been watching the

commute. any problem spots popping up? yeah, i let people know. a few minutes ago i was going to check along the peninsula, and this is southbound 280 at 380, kind of by the cemetery. the cemetery there in san bruno. just a word of caution for something on the road. we'll check it out as i get more details. i'll let you know about that one. there's two crashes that i'm following now. coming down 680 after sunol getting yourself into fremont southbound, 680 there. we'll watch for more details to. right now it looks like things are moving to the right hand side, so hopefully that's okay. back to you. thank you very much, cinthia. well, breaking news, we're following in the middle east and renewed fears this morning of a regional war after a massive israeli strike in iran. and soon after iran's first response, israeli army's releasing new video showing air force jets taking off early this morning. prime minister benjamin netanyahu called the strike a last resort to prevent a nuclear armed iran. at this point, we know iran's most senior military leader was killed and in attack.

since then, israeli air strikes took out many senior leaders in iran's air force. video from iran's state media shows damage from inside iran israeli fighter jets are believed to have struck more than 100 targets. smoke could be seen rising from buildings in tehran. israel says iran overnight launched about 100 drones towards israel. we spoke with one former senior u.s. counterterrorism official who believes iran's response will likely dictate how quickly things escalate. some of these capabilities they haven't used yet against israel, and this is something that could if some of these capabilities that haven't been used are used, then i could see this situation really escalating and spiraling out of control. the trump administration is trying to distance itself from the israeli strike, saying it had no involvement. however, president trump this morning posted an expansive response on truth

social, citing the inability to reach a nuclear deal with iran and warning things in iran may get worse, hinting there are more attacks to come if a nuclear deal cannot be reached. the escalating conflict also throwing a wrench into the situation on wall street, oil prices are soaring ahead of the opening bell and futures are down more than 1%. well, this morning, president trump's tug of war with california continues. the national guard staying put in los angeles, at least for now. now, an appeals court siding with president trump, temporarily blocking a san francisco federal judge's ruling, which declared trump overstepped his authority. well, this all comes as final preparations are underway for the nation's first military parade in decades. today in the bay's chris pollone joining us live from washington this morning. and, chris, a lot of back and forth over the last couple of hours or 24 hours at least. yeah. marcus, you had to keep your head on a swivel to figure out what was going on. so

too did governor newsom for a couple of hours there. he thought he had a very decisive victory over the trump administration in court. but that victory was short lived. and now national guard troops remain on the streets of los angeles for the time being. as anti ice protests spread from california to cities across the country. a federal appeals court says president trump can continue to direct national guard troops he sent to los angeles to help quell violent demonstrations. the reversal, just hours after a lower court gave california governor gavin newsom a sweeping but short lived victory. today is a big day for the constitution of the united states, for our democracy. while migrant roundups continue, the president, acknowledging his crackdown is impacting businesses and appears to be considering a policy change. we can't do that to our farmers and leisure to hotels. the passionate debate over immigration reaching from the streets. i have questions for the secretary to the highest levels of government. california senator alex padilla, forced from the room and briefly

handcuffed after interrupting homeland security secretary kristi noem during a news conference. i began to ask a question. i was almost immediately forcibly removed from the room. i was not arrested. i was not detained. padilla's democratic colleagues, outraged that sickened my stomach. the manhandling of a united states senator. we need immediate answers to what the hell, went on, secretary noem insisting it was a case of mistaken identity. we sat down for 10 to 15 minutes and talked about the fact that nobody knew who he was. meanwhile, final preparations are underway for the nation's first military parade in more than 30 years saturday. the forecast in washington not looking good. it doesn't matter. it doesn't affect the tanks at all. it doesn't affect the soldiers. they're used to it. they're tough, smart. the parade celebrates the army's 250th anniversary, and several groups have organized protests across

the country against the trump administration tomorrow, which also happens to be president trump's 79th birthday. marcus. well, chris, i understand president trump is expected to visit canada this weekend, which i'm sure is going to be interesting coming from a lot of canadians, especially what we've seen over the last few months. yeah, that's right, marcus, especially after he called for canada to become the 51st u.s. state, a move that infuriated many canadians. and the tariff war probably didn't help either. but he's there for the g7 summit. the group of seven comprises the u.s, canada, france, italy, japan, germany and britain. the european union also attends, as well as other heads of state who are not part of the g7, but have been invited by canada's prime minister, mark carney. ukrainian president volodymyr zelenskyy is expected to attend and meet with president trump. it will be his first meeting with him since that infamous meeting, that contentious, infamous meeting in the oval office a few months ago. marcus certainly will be

interesting, and we will be watching. chris pollone in washington for us this morning. chris. thank you. we are learning new details about a fire which caused a massive meltdown on bart last month. you may recall the fire happened on may 20th at the san leandro bart station. we're learning the fire was caused by a cable used to power the trackway. bart says the cable became frayed, then touched the ground, creating a power surge that fueled the fire. the flames knocked out service for much of the east bay for hours, took about a week for bart to fully restore service. well, get ready for corn dogs, funnel cakes, and a lot of fun. the alameda county fair kicks off today. in addition to the old favorites like carnaval rides, pig races, concerts, and exhibits. fair organizers say this year will be a very fun year because they're also going to have some camel rides and monster trucks too. organizers say that you definitely want to order your tickets ahead of time, and make sure you plan extra time to park. the gates

open at noon today at alameda county fairgrounds in pleasanton. this is going to run until july 6th. also this weekend in livermore, you have the rodeo. stick around. it's 645 this morning. bob redell is going to take us there, wrangling up everything you need to know about the excitement happening this weekend. all right. and carrie's got a look at what it's going to look like for opening day at the fair. yeah, it's been the same weather day after day for pleasanton, so it's been very pleasant. and we'll see that continue into the weekend with highs in the mid to upper 70s. just be prepared if you're out there at the fair late in the evening, temperures will drop quickly because it cools down to the low 50s every night. so you do want to make sure you do have a nice warm jacket, and also prepare for those gusty winds that will kick up. we'll see a high of 69 in hayward and oakland, 77 in napa and in san francisco, 66 degrees. los gatos today headed for 79, and we'll see a high of 73 in palo alto. notice tomorrow

let's take a live look outside in palo alto. we are starting out with some sunshine coming in under the low clouds that we've seen here and there. it will be clearing out as our temperatures go from low 50s now to upper 60s

in the early afternoon. it's going to be another really nice day, but warming up and cooling down quickly. we'll take a look at all of our microclimates coming up. and from palo alto to san rafael, but still the same highway 101 there is looking good. a smooth ride either direction right there through san rafael and the civic center. north bay drive times for you. the one that pops out the most is westbound 37. of course, trying to get yourself out of solano county over on into lakeville. that's a 24 minute ride, but southbound direction, that camera, we just looked there. it's about an eight minute ride to get yourself. maybe if you're headingg to richmond this morning. wall street is set to open lower following israel's military strikes on iran last night and iran's initial response this morning. oil prices are spiking above $70 a barrel on concerns about potential supply disruptions from the middle east. investors are shifting into so-called safe haven assets such as the dollar, swiss franc and u.s. treasury bonds. stocks

are coming off a positive session yesterday following a better than expected reading on producer prices. the dow, nasdaq and s&p 500 are on pace for a third straight positive week. apple's biggest iphone manufacturer, foxconn, shipped nearly all the devices it made for the u.s. market froindia between march and may, reuters reports. that's way above the 50% average from last year, and it's a clear signal of apple's efforts to byss tariffs imposed by president trump on china. apple's been taking steps to speed up production from india. in march, it chartered planes to ship roughly $2 billion in iphone models from that country. chipotle and krispy kreme are hoping to turn friday the 13th into a lucky day for customers. chipotle is offering a buy one get one deal from 3 to 4 p.m. local time today. for all fans who are tatted like a chipotle bag, which comes from a popular internet meme. the deal is only valid for customers with permanent or tempoporary tattoo. krispy kreme is giving out a dozen original glazed donuts for

maybe they're not as bad as we think they are. in case you forgot, our parents war is about to become ours. that looks pretty cool there, right? so that is a look at the live action movie how to train your dragon. the story revolves around hiccup. this is a young viking inventor and his unconventional relationship with toothless, a night fury dragon who is known for its intelligence and loyalty. will hiccup and toothless break free from the traditional viking mindset and fighting dragons. instead, they're fostering this bond of friendship and understanding. actor mason thames, who plays hiccup, actually had the task of bringing this beloved animated movie to life. i actually spoke with him and he said, look, even though my costar isn't real, people behind the scenes really help bring toothless to life. we had amazing puppeteers and they walked around like the dragon heads, like dragon foam heads, which is something we could always look at and touch and act with and, you know, improv with

because it's been pretty comfortable out there going outside. more of the same. we've seen a wide range in our microclimates, from coastal fog and cool temperatures to some very mild valley temperatures in spots like walnut creek. we're starting out with a cool morning. it's in the low 50s. we're seeing that all around the bay area with a light wind. and then the sunshine continues today, and we're basically matching yesterday's temperature trend where we make it into the upper 60s at noon and then into the low 70s for the afternoon. in the south bay, we're looking at mid to upper 70s from cupertino to san jose to los gatos, and low 80s for morgan hill and gilroy, and then for the tri-valley. it will be in the mid 70s and then into the upper 70s for walnut creek and concord it will be 80 degrees and 69. in oakland, a breezy wind and cool for half moon bay. upper 50s this afternoon. redwood city at a nice 72 degrees in san francisco. we're mainly looking at, again some of the same temperature ranges from

upper 50s to mid 60s. and then for the north bay we'll head for 82 in santa rosa, but 70 in mill valley. napa will have a very nice and comfortable weekend. we're still seeing this weather continue with some morning 70s and low 80s, and overnighter lows in the upper 40s, so be prepared for that big range from the morning to the afternoon and then back down for the evening. but looking ahead, we are going to have some warmer temperatures coming in for the middle of next week. we're up to 90 next wednesday for the valleys, while san francisco goes from mid 60s this weekend to low 70s next week. cinthia is looking a little slow for the bay bridge. yeah, look at the camera right behind me. we are piling up there through the toll plaza. some of these people might be looking to the other lane. eastbound direction. there was a crash. we see it picking up right here through the sensors. apparently, somebody walking in and out of the lane. so just some caution out there as we try to get in and out of the city. the rest of the bay is looking

morning to you. thanks for starting your day with us. i'm laura garcia and i'm marcus washington. let's get you caught up on that forecast this morning. meteorologist kari hall tracking the temperatures across the bay area this morning. looking good. yeah, and everyone's pretty steady. and starting out on an even playing field for this morning. but we know that as we go through the day, these temperatures start to spread out across our microclimates. we are now at 54 in san jose. it's 55 in palo alto and a little bit cooler in san francisco at 52 right now with the breezy wind. and then we'll see the high temperature there up to 66 degrees 69 in oakland and 73 in fremont. and the farther you go inland, you know, those temperatures will be a little bit warmer. but we're still feeling some comfortably warm temperatures with low 80s in the santa clara valley, as well as napa and sonoma valleys. we'll get a look at more events and also the forecast for those events going on this weekend, coming up in a few minutes. thank you. kari. well, we are following breaking news this morning in the middle east and

new israeli airstrikes in iran following a wave that started at last night. now, prime minister benjamin netanyahu calling the strikes a last resort to prevent a nuclear armed iran. and at this point, we know iran's most senior military leader was killed, along with senior leaders in iran's air force. iran is also launching drone strikes on israel, and the escalation is raising new fears of a regional war, the conflict also sparking a surge in oil futures that's sending the markets lower. just minutes after the opening bell, you can see right now the dow is down some 220 points. hours after a win for governor newsom, a new and perhaps temporary setback in the battle over the national guard deployment in los angeles, federal appeals court is blocking the temporary restraining order granted by a lower court district judge. the decision may well impact how things play out this weekend, with many protests on tap today in the bay's ginger conejero

saab joins us live in san francisco this morning. ginger. this means certainly no change in things, at least for the short term. that is correct, laura. the national guard in los angeles will remain a presence under the control of the president, at least until the next hearing. appeals court judges put the restraining oer on hold late yesterday, without considering the merits of the case or the earlier decision yesterday, siding with governor gavin newsom and the state attorney general in that 36 page ruling, judge charles breyer determined the president's actions were illegal, both exceeding the scope of his statutory authority and violating the 10th amendment of the constitution. governor newsom then held a news conference applauding the decision. today was really about a test of democracy, and today we passed the test very gratified by this decision. but within hours, the ninth circuit blocked the initial decision, putting an administrative stay

on breyer's ruling. this puts things on pause ahead of another hearing that's set for tuesday. this means the national guard will remain on the streets of l.a. at least through the weekend. the president, reacting with a post thanking the court for its decision and saying in part, quote, we saved la. the appeals court decision is also significant given the planned no demonstrations protesting the military parade planned in the nation's capital. that coincides with the preside's birthday, musician and activist joan baez says it is imperative that people around the world know how many people do not agree with what is happening in the united states, but she urges protesters to do so nonviolently. our only chance of being heard and making any progress anywhere is by using the nonviolence which so many people are. i mean, they kind of get it, because if we try to do any show of violent force, we'll be crushed instantaneously. you may be

crushed anyway, but at least, you know, you go down on the right side of history. so the ninth circuit hearing will take place on tuesday, june 17th. and laura, some legal experts are already predicting that this may lead all the way up to the supreme court. so this may not be the end of how we continue to monitor this issue. we're live in san francisco, ginger conejero saab. today in the bay, most definitely. and of course we'll continue to follow. thanks so much, ginger. want to tell you about this story developing now in new jersey. at least four detainees are unaccounted for and believed to have escaped after chaos broke out at an ice detention center. the center is located in newark, and according to some reports, dozens of detainees suddenly revolted. nj.com is reporting the four detainees managed to escape by tying sheets together from a window on their third floor dormitory. an ice spokesman says additional resources are now

medical campus shortly after takeoff in western india. there were 242 people on board. video shows that passenger there in the white t-shirt, who survived with just a few bruises and scratches. he's actually telling the media he escaped through a broken emergency exit after impact. he also says 30s. after takeoff, there was a loud noise and soon after the plane crashed. u.s. investigators are expected to assist indian authorities in trying to determine what caused the london bound plane to go down. california's insurance commissioner is investigating state farm over its handling of the wildfire claims. now, the department of insurance launched a formal review to see if the company violated state laws while processing thousands of claims from the eden and palisades fire that was down in southern california. now, the commissioner says too many people are facing delays, confusion and lack of communication. investigators will look at the issues, such as multiple adjusters, smoke damage

claims and payment disputes. well, this is exciting. we're just one year out to the 2026 fifa world cup, and tomorrow the countdown to the world cup continues in the south bay. the bay area hosting committee is opening up a soccer village between noon and four at the lot at creekside socials on south montgomery street in san jose. as organizers tell us, the free event is featuring the earthquakes bay fc, oakland roots a oakland soul. the great piece about soccer, actually, is the infusion of soccer with culture. and so with that, you're going to see and walk by a lot of music and vibe and food and just the things that make the, the, the world's game actually really, really unique as it brings different people with different passions together. earlier this week, the bay area hosting committee dedicated an official plaque for the 2026 fifa world cup. levi's stadium is hosting six matches

interstate. i love letting you know when it will be. so. we do have some great weather heading into the weekend as well. whether you're going to the rodeo or some of the many events going on this weekend, take a look at the range in temperatures. we'll see. if you're heading to the coastline. it will be chilly, windy and staying mostly cloudy. half moon bay today a high of 59 degrees, but we'll get some sunshine and a nice breeze in palo alto. temperatures in the low 70s in san jose, mid 70s and low 80s for the south county. gilroy today headed up to 80 degrees, 80 in concord and 77 in napa, 75 in novato. so we're going to see this repeat throughout the weekend. as we were talking about, the weather is pretty spectacular for the alameda county fair. we will see temperatures tonight in time for the concert really cooling down quickly. we're heading down to the low 50s, so bring a jacket and grab your spot there to enjoy the music. tomorrow during the middle of the day we'll see highs in the mid 70s. if your weekend plans take you to the sierra, we're also going to see

welcome back. we're moving the bay area forward with a look at the top stories on today in the bay. we're following that breaking news in the middle east and new israeli airstrikes in iran following a wave that started last night. now, within the last few minutes, israel announcing it's completed the latest round of strikes. prime minister benjamin netanyahu calls it a last resort. this is

to prevent a nuclear armed iran. now, at this point, we know iran's most senior military leader was killed, along with senior leaders in iran's air force. iran is also launching drone strikes on israel, and the escalation is raising new fears of a regional war. now that conflict also sparking surge in oil futures and sending stock market lower, right now, you can see the numbers there. the dow is down about 600 points. this morning. president trump's tug of war with california continues. the national guard is staying put in los angeles, at least for now. an appeals court siding with president trump, temporarily blocking a san francisco federal judge's ruling, which declared the president overstepped his authority. another hearing is now scheduled for tuesday. this means the national guard will remain on streets of l.a. at least through the weekend. now that decision comes as tomorrow

protesters plan to make their voices heard over the military parade planned in the nation's capital. some 1500 demonstrations are being organized around the nation to protest that military parade happening in d.c. bay area. protesters are organizing no demonstrations, and local law enforcement is gearing up for tomorrow's parade is being held in honor of the 250th anniversary of the founding of the army. it also coincides with president trump's 79th birthday. let's get a look at that forecast for us. it looks great this weekend. there's a lot of outdoor events happening in festivals. we are going to see temperatures in some of our warmer spots inland in the low 80s, and morning clouds and afternoon sunshine. san francisco does stay cloudy with highs in the mid 60s, and we went from delays to no service downtown berkeley, richmond, bart there for that medical emergency at berkeley. so some alternates for you will be of course the bus routes or just maybe not going to work today. you know, it's friday, okay, but
