right now at 11:00. not taking any chances tonight. bay area businesses are boarding up, preparing for thousands of people to hit the streets tomorrow. no protests are planned nationwide. it's a day of demonstration against the trump administration. we begin tonight with nbc bay area's pete suratos live in san francisco. pete. security plans are in place there, and the mayor is encouraging peaceful protests. they are, and we're expecting to see dozens of these protests across the bay area tomorrow. and city leaders are reminding people to protest peacefully. tonight. stores in san francisco's union square are boarding up in anticipation of any violence that may break out during weekend protests. mayor daniel lurie says the city has been preparing since last week

and wants people to take part in ththe demonsation, but to make sure it remains peaceful tomorrow and every single day. our job is to keep you safe and make sure you have the freedom to express yourself. oakland mayor barbara lee sending a similar message to those going to the demonstrations in downtown oakland. we have to ensure that peaceful protests continue because we have we're at a defining moment, actually, in terms of our democracy. and so we must maintain the peace. the process are a part of a nationwide movement opposing the trump administration. it's the same day a military parade is being held to commemorate the army's 250th anniversary. this also president trump's 79th birthday. the cap off a week of protests across the country in response to federal immigration raids in los angeles, and also the president's decision to use both the national guard and the marines to assist law enforcement on the ground. we're not going to give up without a fight, right? protests in the

bay area have largely remained peaceful, but police have responded to cases of violence and looting after the demonstrations. there are a lot of rumblings and rumors about ice agents coming into oakland chinatown like they did with la chinatown. stewart chen is organizing the oakland protest that will end at frank ogawa plaza. he says the community is on edge as federal immigration enforcement intensifies across the country. he's encouraged by the support he's receiving this week from the immigration protests and the large crowd he's expecting tomorrow. this will give my community the visual, the optics that people do care. and you're going to have that san francisco protest will begin around 11:30 a.m. at dolores park before ending here at civic center plaza. and we know that both sfpd and sheriff's deputies will be on the streets, but federal agencies will not be providing mutual aid in san francisco. pete suratos, nbc bay area news.

thanks, pete. thousands are also expected to converge on the south bay and the peninsula for what organizers hope will be one of the bay area's biggest and most unusual. no king's day demonstrations. organizers, including the group together we will are planning a so-called. seven by 7000 protest. the goal is to get at least 7000 people to line up along el camino real, from the tesla dealership in sunnyvale to the tesla dealership in palo alto. that's a nod to the controversial role elon musk has played in the trump administration. in downtown los angeles tonight, that curfew remains in effect. and at a news conference this evening, the mayor said there is no end date for it. meantime, marines are now on the ground in la. this is a live look at the wilshire federal building. the marines are supporting members of the national guard protecting federal buildings after ice protests erupted last week. they're taking their post a day after the ninth u.s. circuit court of appeals temporarily blocked a federal judge's order that had directed president trumump to return control of the guard to governor newsom and the

iran and isrl. meantime, we could also start to see the effects of this at the gas pump. tonight, the damage seen on the ground in jerusalem and israel warning more missiles are on the way. this video showing israeli air defenses taking out most of the previous wave of missiles launched overnight, but some did land. according to the israeli paramedic organization, 21 people were injured, one of them critically. the iranian retaliation comes after israel's surprise strikes iran's ambassador to the u.n. saying so far, 78 people have been killed in iran and more than 320 are injured. iran's supreme leader posted on x today saying, quote, the zionist regime has made a big mistake, a grave error and committed a reckless act. israel says the operation, dubbed rising lion, killed iranian nuclear scientists and generals, including the commander of the revolutionary guard. israel also says iran's nuclear program posed a clear and present danger. i want to assure the civilized world we will not let

the world's most dangerous regime get the world's most dangerous weapons. the council on american islamic relations has condemned israel's actions. we are on the brink of more violence initiated by israel without any accountability. we have a large iranian american population in the san francisco bay area, and they have been concerned for an extended period of time about israeli violence in the region. rabbi mark blum in oakland says they have several members in their synagogue who are in israel right now. we've got preschool teacher. we've got a father and a daughter together. we have parents visiting their children there. we have somebody on a post-college trip. so we're concerned about their safety. we're concerned about the concern of their parents and their family members. and of course, we're concerned for the risk that it is living there in the u.s. we could start to feel the financial impact of this conflict at the pump. rise in domestic gas prices is expected to happen quickly within a day

or two. right now, crude oil barrel, but that was about a spike of about $10 compared to this time last week. meantime, president trump tonight meeting with his national security officials in a phone interview with nbc, the president saying he was pleased with the israeli strikes against iran, that israel, quote, had the finest equipment in the world, which is american equipment, and that the iranian government, quote, missed the opportunity to make a deal. now they have another opportunity. we'll see. the u.s. warning iran not to target u.s. troops in the region. jocelyn moran, nbc bay area news. back at home tonight, all evacuation orders have been lifted and people are returning home after a fire threatened dozens of buildings near vacaville earlier today. the fire started around 230 this afternoon on english hills road and estate drive grew to about 110 acres. now 30% contained, but you c see a big burn section right near one home.e spoke with one local man who says his property was almost destroyed by the fire.

they said it was in our backyard. and so like i said, we were on the freeway this side of dixon and just stepped on the gas and come flying down here. we out around the fire department because apparently they can only go 15 over the speed limit. note, my house. i don't give a damn about the speed limit. homeowners are being praised tonight for all their defensible space around many homes in the area. firefighters are being thanked for their quick work. no structures were damaged in the fire. no word yet on how it started. new at 11 a new chapter for 23andme, the co-founder and former ceo of the embattled genetic testing company, has regained control of it, and wojcicki outbid regeneration. regeneron pharmaceuticals during a during a reopened bankruptcy auction to win back 23andme, she used her new nonprofit research institute to put in a $305 million bid on her old company. in a statement, wojcicki said she is thrilled that teetee terry research will be able to continue the mission of helping

people access, understand and benefit from the human genome. 23andme was wildly successful at its peak, but struggled in recent years with generating revenue and with privacy issues. disgsgraced theranos founder elizabeth holmes is asking to more. holmes is serving her time in texas. she was sentenced to 11 years for defrauding patients and investors in the blood testing startup theranos. but she already got two years knocked off for good behavior, so she's facing just nine years. now she is asking the san jose court to reduce her sentence by another two years. her attorneys argue her work to help fellow prisoners qualifies to reduce her time. the request comes one month after she lost her latest bid to overturn her conviction. no word on when a judge will rule on the new motion to reduce her sentence. there is outrage among many in antioch after a woman was caught on camera vandalizing a large sign. the sign was posted to promote the city'spcoming juneteenth

celebration, marking the end of slavery in the u.s. nbc bay area's jodi hernandez has the video and the reaction. reporter this is the video that has many in antioch feeling angry and hurt. a woman with a sharp object vandalizing a sign promoting the juneteenth event. i feel disgusted, angry, but i also feel that we have a lot of work to do. reporter. this morning, community organizer velma wilson put up another juneteenth sign. she says it's hurtful to know some don't understand the importance of the day commemorating the end to slavery in the u.s. velma says for her, it's personal. i am a proud descendant of an uncle who was lynched, thrown into the mississippi river, mississippi river, just because of the color of his skin. my father had to fish his brother out of the river. we'll be replacing this,

and we'll get a new sign up for monday. today, all that's left are the frame and the ropes used to anchor the sign down. antioch's parks and rec acting director says this is the third juneteenth sign that may have been tampered with. two others have disappeared. we're not going to let banner or or anybody's, you know, situation stop us from from our mission of helping others and celebrating. last year, some 1500 people attended the city's celebration. the parks and rec director says it's a chance to learn history while celebrating african-american culture. it's a celebration of freedom and not just for one one culture. a community organized event will also take place, making it a full day of juneteenth activities. and while the actions of the woman caught on camera are troubling, folks say it won't stop the celebrations. this is why we're here. still making sure signs are getting put up so the community knows. we're not frightened. we're not afraid. we're going to continue

investigators have already recovered what could be a critical piece of evidence to help them determine why the boeing 787 went down seconds after taking off. here's nbc's tom costello. staying in india, in the hospital in ahmedabad, the lone survivor who walked away from thursday's air india disaster tells indian tv he has no idea why. he's the only one of 242 who got out alive. emergency door is broken. my seat is broken. i'm not jumping. i just walk out. i can't explain. it's medical everything. vishwas kumar ramesh said he was in window seat 11, a right next to the broken exit door, yet managed to climb through. but everyone else died, including a british radiologist and his family who took this selfie. the boeing 787 dreamliner crashed into the local medical school's residence hall, killing roughly 30 on the ground. all of us at air india are devastated by this loss and

grieve for those affected. already, indian investigators say they've recovered critical evidence a dvr with recordings from onboard cameras, which may have captured the pilot's actions on the flight deck and the plane's black boxes, the cockpit voice and flight data recorders. former faa and ntsb investigator jeff guzzetti, the flight data recorder will record what in particular that we want to know. the flight data recorder will record hundreds of parameters, one sample every second on the position of the flaps, the slats, the ailerons, the engine thrust levers, the temperature, thehe altitud indian authorities have ordered air india to inspect all of its 787 with ge engines. standard after most aviation incidents. that was tom costello reporting. also tonight, there's outrage from members of the latino community over the treatment of

california senator alex padilla. the league of united latin american citizens held a news conference in texas this afternoon to criticize the security agents who pushed and detained senator padilla. you may have already seen the video. agents surrounded the senator i a department of homeland security news conference yesterday. the senator says he was there peacefully, while secretary nome claims the senator didn't identify himself beforehand. the head of the league of united latin american citizens says the assault on padilla is an assault on democracy. the image of security agents dragging latino senator from a public event is shockingly similar to what our community individuals are enduring around the country. the difference is that senator padilla had cameras rolling at the time, and our families do not. speaker of the house mike johnson has condemned senator padilla's actions, calling them wildly inappropriate. he even went so far as to call for congress to censure him, which is basically a public reprimand.

the fbi is asking for your help finding two people of interest. the feds say the women may have assaulted agents earlier this week. the fbi says the suspects allegedly assaulted agents and stole government property on june 10th in concord. we have asked for more details, but we do know that's the day protesters and federal officers clashed outside the immigration court as people were being detained by ice. here are the two persons of interest. if you have any information or recognize these women, you're asked to contact the fbi. another dead whale has washed up along the bay area shoreline, this time in richmond. the whale is a gray whale which feed up in the arctic and subarctic and breed down in baja, mexico. marine mammal experts say more than a dozen whales have been discovered along the bay area coastline so far this year, 18 of them gray whales. researchers were able to determine that at least five of those deaths were likely related to ship strikes. unfortunately, they weren't able to determine the cause of death in other cases. but notice the

several whales appeared undernourished. they also say it's been a big year for all whale activity in bay area waters. time to check in on your weekend forecast. happy friday to you. yes, and go ahead. saturday. sunday. right around the corner. yeah, i guess you knew that. exactly. weekend is in sight. we were kind of thinking the same thinghere. and as we get a look at our satellite radar picture, we are tracking a system just offshore. there's no rainfall with it. but the important thing about this is it will help to move some cooler air right towards california. so we're not going to get extremely hot. let me show you more of that in your microclimate forecast, and we'll get you ready to go. and for tomorrow morning we do have sunshine here to start through the north bay a little bit there for the east bay and south bay, but we'll also find some patchy fog here across portions of oakland, berkeley, hayward, and then right there at the coastal areas. and then we'll get this to clear back through the afternoon, at least the fog. although you'll see here some high clouds will be filtering

across. but it's going to be more of that mostly sunny sky where that sun is going to be able to push through those clouds. so we're setting it up nice. on our saturday morning, temperatures are back down on the chilly side with 53 here through the peninsula. south bay at 55 dipping down to some 40s here in the north bay. san francisco 52 and some mid 50s in the east bay. daytime highs for tomorrow, staying right near average. so you're going to want to be outside enjoying this in the south bay 79 in los gatos 78 san jose. get you down here towards gilroy. we're at 84 over to the east bay. we're up to 74 vallejo, 79, livermore, closer to the bay. we have some 60s coming in in hayward and also oakland right towards the coast. we can't change this because of that ocean breeze. we're in the chilly 50s and low 60s half moon bay to daly city and on down here to palo alto, woodside,os altos. atherton will be in those upper 70s right here towards san francisco, 57 inn the marina and 66 in the mission and across the north bay. got you to 78 in
