to head outut earlyn this monday morning, we are going to see temperatures basically back to what we've seen over the past couple of days, with low to mid 70s in parts of the south bay, the tri-valley, only in the low 70s, these temperatures again cooler than normal. we're up to 77 in martinez and 81 in concord, and we'll also see anywhere from low 70s in novato to low to mid 80s for the north bay, while san francisco makes it into the mid 60s. tomorrow will be a little bit warmer and that will be the trend. as we head toward the middle of the week, we'll get a closer look at the peak of the warmth coming up in just a few minutes. getting out on the roads this morning as we take a look area wide across the bay area. it's all green sensors for now. it is early, but we are starting to see some slowing coming through the tri-valley from westbound 580 grant line road to 680 takes about 25 minutes, slowing down just a bit as we typically do see early. and looking at vallecitos road, just a heads up that it is taking a little bit

longer because of some early morning construction. i'll let you know if there is anything that pops up coming up in weather and traffic again in a few minutes. back to you. thank you. kari. president trump is turning his immigration enforcement towards cities led by democrats. and this morning it's being met with pushback. today in the bay's kris sanchez joining us from the newsroom with the reception here chris good morning to you, mark. laura, president trump is ordering an expansion of the detention and deportation of immigrants across the country as protests against his policies continue. he mentioned los angeles, chicago and new york as locations for federal agencies to focus on san jose, san francisco, oakland. not at the top of the president's list at this point, but we did see large protests against trump's policies over the weekend in the bay area, part of a lengthy truth social post by president trump reads, quote, we must expand efforts to detain and deport illegal aliens. his words

in america's largest cities such as los angeles, chicago and new york, where millions upon millions of illegal aliens reside. that's the truth. social post. we talked with people at a demonstration of more than 300 in east san jose this weekend, where people say they will keep speaking out against trump administration, mass deportations without due process. our democracy is under siege. our democracy is being stripped away from our u.s. citizens and our immigrants a tremendous impact. it's a lot of it's very emotional for my son. my son is three years old who doesn't get to see his grandpa anymore. his grandpa, who dearly and so passionately loves him. trump also ordered immigration authorities to focus their efforts on sanctuary cities, those that limit their assistance to ice immigration customs enforcement. this all comes after last week, the president said he would pause ice raids at farms and hotels.

back to you, marcus. all right, chris, thank you. well, the suspect in a deadly shooting of a minnesota state lawmaker and her husband is due in court in just a few hours. authorities overnight have released a booking photo of the suspected gunman, vance beltre. this is after he was found crawling in a field and later taken into custody. now here's the moment authorities detained him last night. as we mentioned, he's accused of the cold blooded killing saturday of democratic state representative melissa hortman and her husband, mark, and shooting and injuring a second lawmaker and his wife. last night, minnesota governor tim walz promised to deliver punishment to the fullest extent of the law to melissa and mark's family. i cannot fathom your pain and the grief that you're going through. we'll take solace in the memory and the work that melissa did. and you can rest assured that we will put every ounce of effort that the state of minnesota has to make sure that justice is served. in the

other ambush, state senator john hoffman and his wife, yvette, were shot multiple times but survived. authorities finally captured that suspect after locating his car, and later seen him running off into the woods. investigators say tha the suspect had a list of targets. many lawmakers are calling for more security in the wake of the shootings. developing overnight, israel and iran are trading new blows in a fresh wave of missile attacks. and we're learning misy close to the u.s. embassy branch in tel aviv, but did not cause major damage. the embassy and consulate remain closed. israel overnight upped its confirmed number of deaths to 24 since the start of the conflict, including eight more deaths today. military leaders say most of those who've been killed were not in bomb shelters. iran's death toll is now believed to be more than 200. now, this comes as president donald trump is waking up in canada this morning for a group of seven summit. he's expected to navigate trade

tensions with america's long standing allies. however, his appearance will likely be overshadowed by political unrest that we're seeing here at home today in the bay's. alice barr joins us live in washington this morning. and alice, escalating tensions abroad also going to be front and center. laura good morning. yeah. president trump is facing a full plate at the g-7 summit of both foreign and domestic issues with the expanding conflict between israel and iran. you were just touching on front and center. president trump turning to the world stage today in canada at the group of seven summit of top allies, amid mounting concerns over a new round of attacks between israel and iran. president trump, hoping for a deal to de-escalate. sometimes they have to fight it out, but we're going to see what happens. i think there's a good chance there will be a deal. while promising to keep supporting israel's defense. american pilots are shooting down drones that are headed to towards

israel. iran has threatened to strike american military targets if the u.s. continues that assistance to israel. lawmakers sounding off the united states has troops, facilities and civilians in the region do not attack them. that is our red line. if you go there, all bets are off. many defending israel's goal of destroying iran's ability to make a nuclear weapon while still calling to prioritize diplomacy, bring the two sides together, as well as protecting u.s. personnel. u.s. embassy offices in israel are closed today. that, as a u.s. official tells nbc news, president trump rejected a recent proposal from israel to assassinate iran's supreme leader. the growing conflict, expected to be a central topic among the g7 allies gathering in canada while here at home, boiling domestic divisions on

display at weekend protests across the country against trump administration policies. timed to counter the military parade in washington marking the army's 250th anniversary that coincided with the president's 79th birthday. and at the g7 summit. tariff and trade talks another key focus, with president trump suggesting there could be announcements about a few new trade deals while insisting world leaders should agree to conditions set forth by his administration. always so much going on. before you go, alice, we've been reported that president trump has been pressing for a nuclear deal with iran. you have the latest on that, right? so there were supposed to be talks yesterday, another round of talks between the u.s. and iran in oman that would have continued those discussions toward trying to find a way to curb iran's nuclear program before it develops, the ability to actually have a nuclear weapon,

which president trump has said is absolutely unacceptable. those talks, though, were canceled amid the escalating violence, and iran has indicated it's not coming back to the table until the conflict with israel. this latest conflict is resolved and it's very active there, as we've seen. alice, thanks for the very latest. we'll check back with you in an hour for another update. let's take a live look out in san jose this morning. getting you started with this workweek. meteorologist kari hall tracking what we can expect out there today. kari, how are we looking? it's all clear. it's starting out nice and also very cool. we've had some breezy winds kicking up around walnut creek, starting out with the wind at about 15mph. temperatures at 53. it is a cool morning and we're at 52 in san jose, but we are expecting things to start to warm up fairly quickly through the late morning into the afternoon. but after our cool start, we are seeing a mostly clear sky in the tri-valley and we're headed for sunshine once again. today we'll see a high of

71, all of these temperatures well below normal in some spots. as we take a look at the inner bay, the peninsula san francisco headed for 64 degrees, but we will be in the low 70s for novato and low 80s for santa rosa. a few spots in those interior valleys will be comfortably warm for the afternoon. we will be warming up, so we'll talk more about that in a few minutes. getting out on the roads this morning as we take a live look at the golden gate bridge. very few cars coming in from the north bay, and we're seeing clear visibility as we take a look at the san mateo bridge. also a light flow of traffic. i know it's early, but we will start to see things picking up within the next 30 minutes. and a look at 880 and fremont also showing things flowing smoothly. i'll let you know if anything pops up. coming up again in a few minutes. back to you. sounds good. thanks, kari. we're following a series of close calls. southwest, introducing a new alert system. straight ahead on today in the bay. the way it's expected to help increase runway safety. plus, we'll

as we get a look at what to expect as you're heading out the door. and we've seen in san francisco another morning with low clouds and fog. we're in the low 50s right now. eventually it will be clearing out as our temperatures make it into the low 60s for today. another cool one near the coast and mild for the valleys. we'll take a look at the rest of the forecast coming up. and i've been watching one incident coming from the north bay on 101 going southbound as you approach novato. we're getting word that there may be some fire just off of the roadway, but that could start to slow down traffic on 101. as you approach the golf course drive offramp. so i'll be watching out to see if this causes any issues on the roads. and an update coming up again in a few minutes. well good morning. very happy monday to you. stocks fell hard friday on all the worry over a new war in the middle east. oil prices. this is west texas intermediate well above $70 a barrel. futures

call for a bit of a rise on the open as investors hunt for bargains. shares in the parent company of victoria's secret fell about 8% friday. they're down 50% on the year as that company faces activist investors looking for a shakeup in management. the fed starts its regular two day meeting tomorrow. they've been holding rates steady, worried about inflation caused by the trump tariffs. but those have not materialized quite as much as we were all expecting. the economy, though, has softened. so maybe a teeny cut. the statisticians at nbc just conducted a huge new poll about president trump largely not going his way. asked if they thought they were better off, just 22% of respondents said they were. 78% said the same or worse off. an important question did they think president trump was doing a good job with inflation and the cost of living? 56% disapprove of his efforts. a separate bank rate survey found much the same.

nearly two thirds of americans believe tariffs have a negative impact on their household budget, and that cutting taxes for the wealthy, cutting the federal workforce will negatively impact their finances. 23andme founder anne wojcicki has won back her company. it filed for bankruptcy, was purchased by a pharmaceutical company, but then wojenski was able to successfully argue the bidding system was flawed. now a nonprofit, she set up controls the company and all that genetic data. southwest airlines adding a new cockpit alert system to warn a pilot if he's about to use the wrong one runway, or take off or land on a taxiway. southwest says the runway awareness advisory system has been added to nearly all of its 800 aircraft, and i wanted to take a moment to congratulate the latest recipients of the entrepreneur of the year awards. we did that over the weekend. class dojo is among some of them. also, be wise, which

handles honeybees and serve robotics, which is that little tiny, i don't know, it looks like an igloo cooler that rolls around the streets, you know, delivering pizzas. so among the many award recipients. but i got the chance to host that for something like the 15th year in a row. i was going to say you were handed an award to the guys who made linkedin, you know, like, hey, i think this is really going to turn out to be something. isn't that something? it's nice to be here for so long and to see all this innovation and growth. right? okay. cool. thanks. you bet. well, the giants certainly shaking things up again with the surprise trade, which adds one of baseball's heavy hitters. last night, they acquired rafael devers from boston. in exchange, red sox get two young pitchers, kyle harrison and jordan hicks, along with two minor leaguers. devers is an all star, but he's been in the doghouse actually this year for not agreeing to move from third base to first base. instead, he's been playing designated hitter for the red sox. the giants will also assume

actually clipped second here. slipped into second there for the third week run at the top and a record smashing streak there. and materialists starring dakota johnson and pedro pascal, debuted third with $12 million. and we should note that comcast is the parent company of universal pictures and nbc bay area. a lot to do this weekend. it was a great weekend to warm, but still nice out there. yeah, it was really comfortable for most spots around the bay area. i know it's a little chilly near the coast, but we're going to see that continue today with a wide range in our microclimates. we're already starting out the fog in san francisco, and it will be breezy and slightly cooler in some spots. and then we head for a warming trend midweek. and these are the last few days of spring. summer solstice starts on friday evening, so we're going to see a high of 71 degrees today. we don't often get days like this in june in the tri-valley, but it continues and we're headed for the low 80s in concord. one

of the warmer spots will be fairfield, up to 83 degrees and also 83 in san martin and martinez it will be 77, while oakland will be in the upper 60s and 78 expected today in napa. going into tomorrow, we start to see those temperatures going up several degrees, so we will see a lot more 80s on the map from the tri-valley to the south bay and to the south county as well as the north bay. but then check out wednesday. this will be the warmest day of the week. we're up to 90 in concord, seeing some upper 70s for fremont as well as palo alto. but then we'll be in the upper 80s in parts of the north bay. so this high pressure building across the region, and then it begins to push off towards the east, away from us, making way for some cooler temperatures, a stronger onshore ocean breeze that will help cool us down in time for the weekend. so let's get a look at morgan hill. we're going from low 80s today to upper 80s tomorrow, and then seeing low 90s on

wednesday. and then those temperatures drop very quickly on thursday, only up to 80 degrees. and we're expecting some 70s for the weekend. and yes, this will officially welcome in summer on the calendar will be in the mid 70s for the inland valleys. and the weekend is looking nice once again, very comfortable. and then in san francisco we're going to see temperatures warming up to the low 70s. it will be nice to get that sunshine, but we willll see more clouds by the end of the week. and out on the roads this morning, i haven't seen any major issues. we are seeing a lot of green sensors all around the bay area. i was looking at that report of the fire going southbound. looks like even leading up to that, people are a little distracted. or maybe the crews heading to the scene of a fire that's just off the roadway there. as you're moving through novato 101, the incident i was seeing was southbound, but it looks like even going northbound, it is slowing it down in that area. so allow some extra time for the east bay. we are seeing it slowing down on kirker pass road. now back to

with a gradual warm-up and temperatures making it into the low 70s for today. it will be 78 in napa for the high temperature and 73 in livermore, as well as san jose and san martin headed for 83 degrees with some low 80s and parts of the north bay as well. and a little bit warmer tomorrow. so we'll talk about that warming trend getting out on the roads this morning. well, there's the backup there as you're heading across the bay bridge. very slow going. we just saw the metering lights turned on. and then looking at the golden gate bridge, we are seeing the easy flow of traffic coming into the city from the north bay and also looking at some high clouds, basically not obstructing your view as you're driving to work this morning, going across the san mateo bridge. nice, cool and easy flow of traffic in fremont for 880 as well. i'll have another update coming up in just a few minutes. all right kari. thank you. well, new for you this morning. a head on crash in san francisco is under investigation. this happened around 2:00 this

morning in the area of sutter street and trinity place. this is outside the crocker galleria shopping mall, not too far from montgomery street bart station. now two cars seem to have collided. a photographer there at the scene also captured at least one person being taken away by ambulance. now we have reached out to san francisco police overnight for more details on what led up to this crash. we're still waiting to hear back. in just a few hours, state lawmakers will introduce new legislation requiring law enforcement, including federal agents, to show stronger identification and also unmasked. all of this comes as protests against ice actions continue nationwide today in the bay's ginger conejero saab live for us in san francisco with more on that proposal. hey, ginger. hey, marcus. laura. well, the framework for this new legislation is something we will be following because federal agents, including ice agents, are primarily bound by federal immigration law and not state law when performing their duties. state senator scott wiener and jesse adrian will

announce new, new legislation later today, which would do two things. it would require law enforcement to show stronger identification, and it would also prohibit them from covering their faces. they say this bill will boost transparency and public safety by building trust between law enforcement and the public. it also counters the perception of what they call secret police. this issue, not just local federal agents concealing their identity, is being scrutinized elsewhere. boston's mayor argues pushing for identification calls for accountability and transparency, while the u.s. attorney general's office says masking is for the protection of agents and their families. the actions of ice officers who are wearing masks are intimidating residents. it's undermining safety in our communities. federal agents and their children are being threatened, doxed and assaulted. that is why they must hide their faces.

calls for transparency follow a weekend of protests nationwide, including ones right here in the bay area. this one happened yesterday in san francisco. organizers say a number of community members who are on immigration supervision received an unusual notice of a weekend check in. protesters and attorneys told us they were not aware of anyone being detained yesterday. nbc bay area has reached out to ice to get clarity, but we have not yet heard back. now the push for that new legislation will be announced here in san francisco at city hall at 1030 this morning. we will be following that throughout the day and online at nbcbayarea.com. guys, back to you. all right, ginger, thank you. later today, lawmakers in sacramento will reintroduce new legislation to protect firefighters not from smoke and fire, but actually from the uniforms that they wear. today in the bay's bob redell. joining us now. and bob, cancer is the leading cause of death among firefighters. correct. and many firefighters,

marcus and laura believe that that's due to the harmful chemicals found in the uniforms that protect them from fire. according to the international association of firefighters, or iaf, in 2023, 72% of line of duty deaths were due to occupational cancer, which is why later today, assemblymember matt haney of sf and john hairabedian of pasadena will reintroduce legislation that bans those harmful chemicals in firefighter uniforms. this is after their previous attempt failed. now, you might recall that in may of 2024, our i unit reported on how these chemicals are believed to have hurt firefighters in san francisco. th chemical in question is known as pfas. it is found in the turnouts. those are the heavy jackeket and pants that firefighters wear, and it helps those clothes repel flammable liquids and resist extreme heat. well, according. but is our bigad shabbat reported last year? it can be harmful when absorbed through the skin. our

eye unit found that the san francisco fire department lost 300 firefighters to cancer over the past 20 years, though there is no distinction between deaths related to smoke and fire and those related to carcinogens in the clothes. and san francisco female firefighters have a six times higher rate of breast cancer than the national average. sfpd's lieutenant magali sadie is a two time cancer survivor who underwent a double mastectomy. we can't stop the job from being dangerous. we can't not run into fires. but we can change the future. we can make it so that someone else doesn't have to go through this. last year, the city of san francisco banned the so-called forever chemicals in firefighter turnouts. those uniforms need to be replaced by next year at a cost of $10 million. supervisor aaron peskin, who authored that legislation, says that is cheaper than the expense of firefighters getting sick.nd it's also the morally right thing to do. now, if the legislation being proposed today

in sacramento is eventually approved, california's ban on these so-called pfas chemicals in firefighter uniforms would go into effect in 2027. reporting live, bob redell today in the bay. a lot to unpack. thank you. bob. a hiker with bay area ties telling his survival story. after spending nine days and nights lost in the himalayas. 44 year-old samuel van grinevich became separated from hisis hikg group in northern india. his sister says he then got injured. rescuers found him over the weekend starving and dehydrated, but he's expected to fully recover. they shared video of him explaining his physical struggle, at one point trying to make his way towards other hikers, then changing course when he couldn't reach them. then i got thirsty. i had to go back down to the river. he had been walking for nine days with a fractured ankle and a broken wrist and an injured knee. his

family is from fremont. to find him, they had to arrange a private search and cover the expenses. now that he's been found, they say it's all been worth it. now to a live look in downtown san jose. where happening tomorrow, council members will formally adopt a plan to install five new digital billboards. so back in february, they approved this plan. new displays are expected to go up at the center for performing arts, the mcenery convention center, and two parking garages. they will also remain dark from midnight until 6 a.m. it is expected to generate an estimated $20 million in revenue over the next two decades. taking a live look outside overlooking san francisco. all right. a little june gloom there this morning. kari. although we'll enjoy it at least by wednesday. right when things are going to warm up everywhere. yeah. so the valleys are going to be heating up and staying very mild along the coastline and in san francisco. and we have a breezy wind coming off of

that cooler marine air and that fog that we're seeing in san francisco. it's right now 54 in palo alto and 52 in san jose. as we take a look at brentwood, one of our usual warmer spots. we go from low 50s now to mid 80s during the afternoon. so once again have to be prepared for that wide range in temperatures from the way we start out the day to the afternoon. and martinez, it will be at a comfortable 77 during the middle of the day, 73 in novato and san francisco today, looking at a high of 64, palo alto headed for 73 degrees. we'll get another look at the forecast in a few minutes. wanted to give you a quick update on the roadways this morning. we're seeing no major incidents as of now. and looking at the tri-valley it is slowing down. coming on 580 to grant line road from 680. and we're also seeing it slowing down on vallecitos road as you're trying to make that cut through. but overall we are seeing our bridge drive times flowing pretty well on schedule for this time of morning. i'll

monday morning. it's a chilly start as we take a look at what to expect as you step out the door in santa rosa. it's in the upper 40s now and we are seeing those low clouds. it's going to clear out by 7 to 8:00 and throughout the day, warming up into the low 70s at noon and headed for the upper 70s later on today. we are going to see warmer temperatures mid week. more on that in a few minutes as we get a look at the roadways, we're seeing things starting to stack up there just a little bit as the metering lights were just turned on at the bay bridge toll plaza. i'll be tracking to see if this causes any major issues or what else is going on across the bay area. sounds good. we'll check back with you. kari we'll new this morning. a historic first in alaska. when it comes to the weather, the national weather service has issued its first ever heat advisory there. it covers areas including fairbanks, where temperatures yesterday reached 85 degrees.

until now, warm conditions there would be covered in the form of a special weather statement. the recent heat is also raising new concerns about accelerated glacial melt. more than five months following the la firestorm. a symbolic moment of closure here. firefighters yesterday officially lifted all remaining evacuation orders for the palisades fire. now, residents months ago were allowed back in the area, but the orders were kept in place due to concerns about toxic conditions. health and fire teams recently agreed that that area, now fully cleared of any air or soil hazards. new polling shows a majority of americans approve of the way the president is handling immigration and the border. yeah, but scott mcgrew that's only one category where the president came out ahead. it is the only category. yeah. good morning. it was tight. even that one. 51% of americans approve of his handling of immigration at the border, 49% disapprove. and that difference is within the

margin of error. as for the rest of it, he is in the red. overall job performance splits the other way. 45% approve, 55% disapprove. and note that most of them feel strongly about it. and this is also true with trump's aions against universities. 56% disapprove and most 42% say they strongly disapprove. most americans want to maintain spending on programs like medicaid. just 28% favor expanding tax cuts, 21% want to reduce the national debt. all presidents are vulnerable on the economy, and a majority of americans polled say they've seen no improvement in their household budgets. when asked about inflation and the cost of living, 45% strongly disapprove of the president's handling, 39% expressing approval. the nbc news poll asked about that military parade to 64% of americans disapprove of using governmement fundso hold the

concentrate its deportation efforts on big cities where democrats were in control. he's also told ice to ease off deportation of farm workers, meatpacking plant workers, as well as hotel and hospitality workers. you may recall this picture from the last time president trump attended a g7 conference in canada. he's back there now. some of the names have changed since 2018. angela merkel will no longer be dressing him down. the g7, the top seven democratic economies canada, france, germany, italy, japan, united kingdom, united states, russia was kicked out after invading ukraine. president trump has repeatedly suggested inviting russia back. ukraine's zelensky will be a special guest, and so too will indian president modi, also a special guest invited by canada. and that's notable considering the extreme tension between canada and india. canada accused the indian government of

assassinating a canadian citizen and all eyes on canadian prime minister kearny street, who will be hosting all of them and got elected in large part by opposing trump. laura, interesting. thanks so much, scott. well, all month long we are celebrating pride and it turns out more young people are seeking support ever since the recent change in the white house. that's according to the lgbtq youth space, which is part of the family and children's services of silicon valley. these photos show some of the panel events that's been holding to help support young people between the ages of 13 and 25. the youth space tells us. more than 600 people have attended these panels since the start of the year, and that's about a 50% increase from last year. i think that a lot of the concerns that we have is that we feel like we might be silenced. and of course, with the speakers bureau, what we want to do is uplift our community and give our speakers and our volunteers a voice, you know, for the folks that maybe don't feel

we take a look at the background in san francisco, but we are headed for some mid-week warming with our valley temperatures in the 80s and 90s. these are the last few days of spring. the longest hours of daylight comes our way on friday, with that being the first day of summer in mountain view, we're going to see some very nice and almost early spring like temperatures. our highs are headed for the low 70s here, and that's going to be a touch cooler than normal. it will be in the upper 60s for hayward and oakland, with upper 70s for napa and then low 70s for the tri-valley as well as the south bay, while the south county makes it into the lower 80s. tomorrow we start to warm up and take a look at these. highs will be in the upper 80s for fairfield,d, as wel as concord in the mid to upper 80s for the north bay. and then wednesday is our warmest day day as we start to see some upper 80s and low 90s on the map here, with fairfield clear lake reaching 93 degrees, but mostly upper 70s for the peninsula and

low 80s for san jose. so we're going to see the high pressure over the desert southwest kind of nudging back toward the bay area on wednesday and then starting to move back out towards the east, away from us and allowing for this area of low pressure, bringing in a stronger onshore wind flow and cooler temperatures for the end of the week. so our temperatures heading up and then back down, and we're going from low 80s today in the inland areas to 90 on wednesday, and then back down to the low 80s on thursday. the first day of summer will be a cooler one with mid 70s and san francisco. we'll go from low 70s midweek to mid 60s out on the roads this morning. everything has been flowing pretty well. haven't seen any major issues, but we do typically start to see one on one going northbound just after you pass the interchange from 280 starting to slow down. we're seeing that on schedule this morning and a look at our drive times. everything is green, meaning it's flowing at at least the speed limit. but it is slowing down through cocoa
