afternoon high in palo alto. it will be 82 degrees, 84 in san jose and 94 in san martin. so you can see some of those temperatures headed for the low to mid 90s today, with a significant cooldown in tomorrow's forecast. so we'll check that out coming up in a few minutes. cinthia, you're hearing about something affecting the commute through oakland. yeah. let's go to the northbound direction of highway 13 over there by skyline. it's on the joaquin miller offramp. now it's either a tree or a light pole that chp says is blocking the off ramp there. so we'll continue to check on that and see how that impacts the northbound direction. your alternate, of course, is to continue on 580 there through oakland. we go out to the altamont pass. no big issues to let you know of. it's just about a 23 minute ride. getting yourself westbound direction to the rest of the valley and the greater bay down through the south bay. we are all good to go. we'll watch the build from san martin to san jose. of course, as the morning goes on. marcus. thanks, cinthia. well, to developments in the escalating conflict between

israel and iran. we want to give you a live look in tel aviv this morning. israeli fighter jets overnight conducted new bombing raids targeting iran's uranium enrichment sites as both nations launched more missile strikes. meanwhile, president trump is weighing options for a possible u.s. strike, consulting with his national security team inside the white house situation room today in the bay's alice bard. live for us in washington. and alice, with the president sending more u.s. military assistance there. many are wondering how deep the u.s. may get involved in this conflict. marcus. it's a serious and an open question right now, for sure. president trump is stepping up his public messaging, posting that the u.s. knows exactly where iran's supreme leader is hiding, saying, we're not going to take him out, at least for now. but adding our patience is wearing thin. iranian officials are calling the president's remarks very hostile, and part of their calculation on whether and how

to respond. amid the escalating conflict between israel and iran, a pivotal moment inside the white house as president trump weighs how far to go to help israel end iran's nuclear program. iran cannot have a nuclear weapon. the president spent tuesday in the situation room with his national security team, calling for iran unconditional surrender, while considering a range of options, including a possible u.s. strike on iran, according to administration officials. one of iran's most critical nuclear enrichment sites is buried deep under a mountn, and destroying it would likely require an american warplane with a massive bunker busting bomb. many lawmakers in both parties calling for congressional approval before any military action. we should have some say so about it. if it flew the b-52s, we'd be risking yet another war in the middle east.

democratic senator john fetterman backing a u.s. strike. you could never have any real peace in the region. you know, if you allow or iran is able to maintain a nuclear program. while the senate's top republican holds out hope for a diplomatic solution, iran coming to the to the negotiating table and agreeing to end their nuclear program, president trump has for weeks pressed iran to negotiate a deal, now signaling a possible shift. they should have done the deal. i told them, do the deal. so i don't know. i'm not too much into who to negotiate. the u.s. has sent more military assets to the middle east, and u.s. bases are at their highest alert level, prepared for any possibility of an iranian strike. two u.s. officials say iran is prepared to strike u.s. bases in the middle east if they choose to, though there are no indications anything is imminent. in new comments, iran's supreme leader said any american military entry

will undoubtedly be met with irreparable damage. president trump has said targeting u.s. troops in any way would bring a forceful response. marcus. well, let me ask you this. what do we know about how close iran may be to making a nuclear weapon? yeah, it's an open and an important question. and the status of that nuclear program remains a little bit unclear. in march, the president's director of national intelligence, tulsi gabbard, testified on capitol hill that the intelligence community does not believe iran is building a nuclear weapon. the president was asked about those comments monday and said, quote, i don't care what she said. i think they were very close to having one. vice president vance also noted that the un nuclear watchdog recently determined iran is not complying with its nuclear nonproliferation obligations. marcus, good information to know alice barr in washington for us this morning, alice. thank you. the deadline for the sale of

tiktok is being pushed back again by president trump. back in january, a law requiring the social media app to be sold off by its china based parent company went into effect. the legislation was passed over concerns that tiktok's chinese ownership poses a u.s. national security risk. now, the white house secretary said mr. trump will sign an executive order this week, giving tiktok 90 more days to find a new owner. this will allow it to continue operating in the united states. this is the third time the deadline has been extended. happening today in san francisco. pushback against proposed budget cuts. opponents fear it may even lead to a new wave of homelessness on the streets. today, the bay's ginger conejero saab is live for us in san francisco, and ginger mayor lurie has already warned that painful cuts are necessary to close that massive budget deficit. so what's the deal with the pushback? well, yeah. good morning, marcus and laura. mayor

daniel lurie has ■been working o close $800 million worth of budget deficit over the next two years. and while it's clear that cuts must be made, advocates say that civil legal aid should be spared to avoid creating much of the same problem that the city is already trying to solve. and that is the message that faith leaders will try to send to the mayor's office today, when they hold a vigil on the steps of city hall urging the mayor to save civil legal aid. supporters say the $4.2 million cut will result in hundreds more people becoming homeless each year, and thousands more losing their assets. our senior investigative reporter, bigad shaban, recently sat down with the head of open door legal, whose services are on the chopping block. the nonprofit provides universal access to legal services, offering free legal aid for families that are struggling with everything from wage theft to unpaid child support. as executive director, he opposes this cut so strongly he began a

hunger strike back on june 9th in protest. city's own data shows that for every one person, they help exit homelessness, 3 to 4 people enter it, and that means we'll never get a handle on the problem unless we go upstream and prevent people, as many people as possible, from entering homelessness. so seven supervisors are voicing their opposition. that's a rarity. ever since mayor lurie took office. now, the mayor's office says it plans to allocate an extra $90 million in previously unused funds for homeless services. other departments in the city are also facing cuts in this proposed budget, including the department of public works. now, across the city, about 100 city workers are expected to lose their jobs, while the budgets for police and public safety are getting an additional $20 million. so we reached out to the mayor's office this morning. we are still waiting to hear back. today's protests

outside city hall will start around three, with some of those faith leaders expected to start a hunger strike of their own in protest. we'll have to see if this will be enough to get mayor lurie to consider. the board of supervisors will have until july 31st to pass a new two year budget. we're live in san francisco this morning. ginger conejero saab today in the bay. thank you very much. ginger, the grandfather of aa three year old boy who tragically shot himself in the family's antioch home, is scheduled back in court today. jamal edwards pleaded not guilty to charges including criminal storage of a firearm and child cruelty. that toddler was living part time with his grandparents when in april, investigators say the child found a gun inside the home and accidentally shot himself. today's hearing is expected to cover the setting for future court dates. there's still no timeline on a criminal trial. shockwaves this morning for earthquakes fans. billionaire john fisher plans to sell the major league soccer team. sources are confirming to

nbc bay area fisher is hiring an investment bank to sell his controlling share. an official announcement may come down as soon as today. fisher also owns the a's, which he still plans to move to las vegas. but in 2007, he reintroduced the earthquakes to san jose for a $20 million expansion fee. forbes recently valued the earthquakes at nearly $550 million, including paypal park, which is under team ownership. let's take a peek outside on this wednesday morning. halfway through our workweek, the sun is up in the bay area. enjoy the early morning hours. we're going to feel a little bit of a warm up today. yeah, and we always say hump day, but we're also reaching the peak of the heat and those temperatures and the trend that we'll see has as we approach the weekend. so as we start out all clear, it will be a warm day in the valleys are headed for the upper 80s and low 90s, and it will be cooler starting tomorrow with some gusty winds and dry inland

conditions. but we'll also have to watch out for the elevated fire danger too. due to the winds increasing, we're heading to one of the hottest spots in the bay area, discovery bay. at 8:00. we're at 69 degrees. and look at the middle of the afternoon. we'll be hitting the upper 90s here, briefly touching 100 degrees. that won't be the case everywhere, but once again, we are going to feel a warm up and a wide range in temperatures from the coastal areas to the inland valleys. so we'll have more on this and the cooldown in a few minutes. cinthia has been giving us a look at where we can save a few cents in our gas prices. yeah, and i wanted to start in the north bay kari with 397 at the arco in mill valley. it's been holding steady at this price, and so has our second price of 399 at the sunol superstore off of 680, and finally 417, in san mateo at the arco on south delaware street, sandwiched right there between el camino and one on one. or if you just continue off of the san mateo bridge. now, if you see a lower price this morning, let me

i'm silvana henao from cnbc headquarters. wall street is set to open higher as investors await the latest interest rate decision from the federal reserve this afternoon, and the fed is expected to keep rates on hold. but the markets will be paying attention to policymakers, updated economic forecast and, of course, comments from fed chair jerome powell. now, stocks falling yesterday as the conflict

between israel and iran weighs on sentiment. the dow dropping nearly 300 points while the s&p 500 and the nasdaq were down about 1%. now, oil prices are pulling back after rising more than 4% yesterday. also in focus today we're going to get data on jobless claims and housing starts. hasbro is cutting 3% of its global workforce as the toymaker faces higher u.s. tariffs on products made in china. the job cuts amount to about 150 employees. that's based on the nearly 5000 workers hasbro had at the end of last year. now, a spokesperson says structure with long term goals. hasbro cut about 2000 employees in 2023, and sales they've held up, rising 17% in the first quarter. and openai ceo sam altman says meta has offered some employees $100 million bonuses to recruit them. speaking on the uncapped podcast yesterday, altman says so far,

none of openai's best people have decided to take meta up on that. competition for ai talent has reached new highs as top researchers are being wooed like pro athletes. lomita hasn't responded to a request from cnbc for comment. guys, so there you have it. wow. i remember years ago, a friend of mine, her daughter, was going to major in ai and it was so interesting because by then people look at that, right? i know, but here you go. okay, so all we talk about now, that's all. exactly. you got it. good to see you, silvana. thank you. well, after years of cord cutting, streaming is outpacing its ancestors. nielsen officially announcing, streaming, taking over broadcast and cable in the month of may. services. netflix, disney+, peacock and youtube comprised 44.8% of tv viewing last month. broadcasting cable combined for 44.2% of viewing, nielsen added.

streaming has jumped 71% as the main form of tv usage since 2021. they cite the use of legacy media companies increasing their efforts in the field. well, giants fans certainly have to be thrilled with their newest addition. rafael devers did not dappoint in his debut game, even if the giants came up just a bit short. designated hitter number 16 rafael devers. as you can see right there, fans greeted the star slugger with big cheers there, even a standing o in his first at bat. even the mayor attending lasast night's game. while devers struck out his first time up, he delivered in his next at bat, giving the giants a21 lead with a double. he finished the night with two hits, but cleveland broke a22 tie with a home run and the giants lost three two. but you know what? fans are optimistic,

as is the giants manager bob melvin. beyond excited. we've been needing a power bat for years. kind of a devers fast as it should have been. had some good at bats and looks like he fits right in. of course. devers came over in a trade with the red sox, who the giants host in a weekend series. you can watch friday's game right here on nbc bay area. it begins at 7 p.m. no pressure. got larry baer and daniel lurie right there in the front. all right there. all right. weather wise, though, starting out this morning. bit foggy there in the city. yeah. and it's going to clear out quickly. but it's also keeping temperatures there in the city in the 70s while the valleys are headed for the 90s. so we'll talk about that range and temperatures. and we are still seeing a clear start in san jose, as well as walnut creek, where we're now at 59 degrees with a breezy wind. and it's also breezy in san francisco, but cooler starting out at 53 degrees. we've been talking

about how hot it's going to be, but not setting a record. thankfully, because santa rosa's record today is 106 degrees, but we are looking at a high of 92. so even though temperatures are going to be hot in the inland areas today, once again, we're not talking about setting records here. and look at livermore's record 106 103 in san jose and even in san francisco. we have some pretty warm weather for the record, but we're headed for the low 70s for this afternoon. so take a look at your microclimate, the high temperature for today. now let's move it to some better weather for tomorrow. there will be a significant drop in our highs. most of us in the 60s and 70s and those upper 80s and 90s we were seeing will come down to the low 80s for some of our warmer inland valleys. and then on friday, it continues to get even better. and friday is our first day of summer. so we're quickly seeing that high pressure that's giving us the high heat moving away. this area of low pressure moving into the pacific northwest will give us a

breezy wind, but with those winds picking up the vegetation already dry, we will have to closely watch out for the fire danger that we'll see starting even with the cooler weather. so in gilroy, we're going from upper 80s to mid 70s for tomorrow, friday as well as saturday, and then a little bit warmer early next week. but we are going to gradually start to see those temperatures climbing for the beginning to middle of next week. cinthia, you are seeing that there is some rain stopped in oakland. yeah, still our situation that we continue to look right here through 13 there at the joaquin miller offramp, that light pole that is blocking the lanes temporarily stopped. we noticed that the sensors changed from that yellow to green. so maybe they're opening it back up. we'll check on that. your alternate is 580. of course, if you need to move there through the east bay. the rest of the bay. looking good. no major issues to let you know about. we are looking at the bay bridge metering lights still yet to be turned on back to you. thanks, cinthia. coming up next

right now at 530, gearing up for fire danger and possible planned power shutoffs. we're live from the south bay with everything you need to know. hours after san jose, crews stopped a quick moving brush fire. plus. it's incredibly sad and disturbing that someone would do that. a symbol of pride vandalized the arrest made after someone sprayed over san francisco's pink triangle. and the new strategy to ease the congestion at a troublesome location. the proposal for highway 17 in los gatos. this is today in the bay. you know, they're out. well, if you like to head to the beach. and people might want to do that on this warmer day. good morning. thanks for joining us. i'm laura garcia and i'm marcus washington. a lot to get to this

morning. but first we start with increased fire danger. we've got live team coverage. kris sanchez tracking where containment stands this morning for that san jose brush fire that broke out yesterday. and possibility for planned power shutoffs this week. so let's check in with meteorologist kari hall first. she's tracking today's conditions as we prepare for some of those higher temps this week. yeah. and so we are going to see those higher temperatures today, tomorrow, a significant drop in those temperatures. and we're starting out with some low 50s really favorable conditions because we've also seen the humidity increase this morning. and we do have the fog near the coast. soo that shows that the humidity this morning there in san francisco, some of the coastal areas at 100%. as we take a look at san jose, we're starting out with a dew point of about 51 when it's very close to the that means the humidity is high. we have a very light wind, and we're looking at some pretty good conditions, but we know that the brush, the grass, all of the fuels for those fires is

extremely dry, despite the fact that we are not seeing any really extreme weather here, we will have to be very careful with the fire danger over the next few days. we're hitting the low 90s from the south county to the tri-valley, all the way up to napa and sonoma valleys, but then notice the drop in temperatures tomorrow with highs mostly in the 60s and 70s. but that comes along with some gusty winds. back to you. all right. thank you. kari. well, firefighters right now holding the ne on a south bay brushfire that got dangerously close to homes today in the bay's kris sanchez is live for us in east san jose hills. okay, so, kris, where do things stand this morning? so the good news is that we're not seeing any flames from where we are, but you can probably see a little bit of the haze there because of the smoke. and there's still a really heavy smell of smoke here in the east san jose foothills. and that's because of that fire that started around 4:00 yesterday afternoon. firefighters went to quick work trying to get that contained,

but as of midnight it was 75% contained at 92 acres. people were ordered to leave, their homes were allowed to go back, but with the warning to be prepared to leave again if necessary. now the brush fire moved quickly toward homes. some people told us they could see those flames approaching right from their own backyards. i packed up my car and got my dogs in there as best as i could, and we always had to go back and i'm going to repack it. pg&e is warning of public safety, power shut offs, psps, outages. they're called when they shut the power off in order to prevent wildfires during wind events. now part of alameda, contra costa, napa, santa clara and sononoma could go dark anyte between thursday and sunday. when those winds pick up. you can check for your specific address on the pg&e website and a reminder, if you like that gentlen want to repack your go bag. we ve a whole list of

hundreds of children's health care workers expected to go on strike in the east bay. and today in the bay's bob redell live for us in walnut creek at one location expected to fill that impact. and, bob, i imagine a lot of parents are wondering, you know, what's going to happen here. so what do they need to know about those upcoming appointments? well, good morning to you, marcus and laura. the union representing these workers will be going on strike later this morning. they did share an email, which appears to be coming from ucsf, which indicates that ucf would be closing its clinics here in walnut creek, san ramon and brentwood and be canceling all elective surgeries and non-urgent orthopedic appointments. we have not yet confirmed that with ucsf. i did send them an email waiting to hear back. at 7:00 this morning, hundreds of health care workers will be walking off the job, and they'll be picketing outside of ucsf benioff children's hospital in oakland to begin what is expected to be a five day strike over cuts and take home pay. this is under new union contracts slated to take effect in july, which the union says

will impact 2500 workers. now, the union is demanding that ucsf not cancel its current union contracts and these cancellations are taking place. i shouldn't say cancellations. these changes are taking place as part of an integration plan. current these currently these workers are employed by the hospital. the hospital is transitioning them to be employees of ucsf. instead. ucsf issued a statement on the strike and the accusations from the union, explaining that employees are transitioning to uc employment and joining the same public sector unions that represent other workers in the uc and, quote, some take home pay may change because today many employees pay nothing toward their health insurance or retirement. under uc employment, they will contribute just as their colleagues across the ucsf system do, and in exchange, they will gain access to a far more valuable pension and comprehensive long term benefits, unquote. the hospital

says it is taking steps to ensure care at its clinics. but again, the union shared that email that indicating the clinic behind me in walnut creek, san ramon and brentwood would be closed today and all elective surgeries canceled and non-urgent orthopedic appointments as well, reporting live here in walnut creek. bob redell today in the bay. all right. thanks for the update there, bob. well, happening today, alameda county leaders receiving an update on the county's rapid response effort due to increased ice activity. supervisors in march approved a $3.5 million plan to support it. about two thirds of the money is going to legal defense nonprofits. one third is funding additional resources in the public defender's office. that committee is meeting at noon. well, self-driving cars are now rolling through the peninsula and parts of silicon valley. starting today, waymo vehicles will hit the streets in brisbane, burlingame, millbrae, san bruno and south san francisco. the company is also expanding access to its

self-driving cars in silicon valley, including menlo park and palo alto. waymo has also received state approval to expand into san jose, but so far, the company has not outlined a timeline for that expansion. an iconic symbol of pride is vandalized, and now a 19 year-old man is facing charges this morning. this is in connection to the vandal attack of the iconic pride display in san francisco. so police officers say yesterday they caught the suspect defacing the pink triangle, which sits atop twin peaks during pride month. officers say they also found evidence of tools used for the vandal, and one of the triangle co-founders explained to us what happened. they saw somebody spray painting these big black white lines on the pink triangle, so i came up to see what it was. i'm not sure what the message was or what the intent was. hopefully it wasn't actually a hate crime. it may have just been vandalism of some sort. now, this is not the first

time someone has vandalized the pink triangle during pride month, and with two more weeks to go, there are some concerns it may happen again. well, relief is one step closer for one of the notorious summertime traffic bottlenecks in the south bay. you may have experienced this yourself. the line of cars on highway 17 in los gatos. this is as people make their way up and over the hill to santa cruz. vta has now secured nearly $15 million as part of an initial step to eventually add two more lanes. now, it would add an additional lane in each direction. this is between lark avenue and highway nine interchange. the agency also wants to add bike improvements and wider sidewalks. the project will improve traffic flow a reduce congestion on 17 during the peak commute time, so busy summer weekends. commute time in

as we celebrate pride month this june, one of san francisco's gay bars is surviving the test of time. the saloon is entering its 51st year, the last gay bar on polk street. it has a new owner, one who's been in the neighborhood for decades and who sees himself less as an owner and more as a caretaker. and for that, one famous polk street resident is very thankful, mostly to preserve the place. you know, we wanted to make sure that nothing happened to it. you know, as what's happened to all the other bars that were on polk street when that was the lgbt, q plus epicenter of the city. going out to clubs and bars has been a way that the queer community has communicated for a really, really long time. the cinch saloon will host festivities for pride weekend and eventually a reopening event. but don't expect big changes. they want to keep things pretty much as they are. as for juanita moore, she's

leading the people's march on sunday for the sixth year, taking pride back to its roots on polk street, where the first gay liberation protest was held back in 1970. a new warning for people living in the north bay. beware of bears. a lot of sightings have been reported in sonoma and marin counties. sonoma county parks department posted this video recently there showing a curious young bear at stillwater cove. this is north of jenner. over the past few weeks, bears were also spotted near sea ranch and in jenner, as well as the russian river valley. experts say two things are happening here. the bear population is on the rise in the north bay, and this is also the time of the year when bears start to explore on their own. bears move by their nose because their nose informs their bellies and they like to eat. so they're just looking for new places with food. and our best strategy is to push them on and not have them be comfortable in these residential areas. i'm glad nobody pushed me along when i was ready to eat. the north bay
