watching. i love you, everybody. right now at 11:00. breaking news a tense situation in the middle of a busy boulevard in fremont. multiple swat teams are in position. drones flying overhead. neighbors being told to stay away because of police activity. we're talking about the area. mission boulevard, north of stevenson boulevard, not far from central park and lake elizabeth. nbc bay area's alyssa goard is there. alyssa. lots of anxious neighbors, i'm sure tonight. and i understand you just got some new information about what's happening. yeah. garvin and jess, the latest update from fremont police as of about half an hour ago is that they've confirmed that one person is dead and another person hurt after a call here about a
1:39 am
shooting earlier tonight. now, there are still swat vehicles that are here in the street. armored vehicles that are out here on mission boulevard. police say they got a call here at around 630, saying two people had been shot. officers. when they got here, they found one person who was shot and killed and another one who was hurt. but it looks like that second person will survive. for hours, police have had homes along this stretch of mission boulevard surrounded on both sides of the street. and we've heard them calling out to some of the houses saying, surrender and come out with your hands up. so far, we haven't seen anyone come out so far, and it's unclear who exactly might be inside. we talked to a family that lives in one of those homes. they tell me that all of their family members are accounted for, so they're not sure who police might be looking for at their home. a friend of the family tells us what they heard. you know, we had no idea we were. we were at the park when she got a phone
1:40 am
call. my friend that her sister's house, somebody had got shot. that's all. and then we came. and then police officers out there. and mission boulevard has been closed for hours. families who live in those houses have not been able to return home. what you're looking at right now are the armored vehicles, which have just moved further down the street on mission boulevard. those armored vehicles are still here, as are the police officers in tactical gear. we can still see lots of them out here. and there are drones flying overhead, too. police are asking the public, if you're around this area, please steer clear of in particular, this intersection in between mission boulevard and walnut. there's it's still a very active scene here with police out here in tactical gear. so if this is not your neighborhood and you don't need to be here, police are asking you to stay away. it's also an active want any additional information if you have any. get in touch with fremont police for now. live in fremont. alyssa goard,

nbc bay area news. thank you very much, alyssa. our other top story tonight, still in the dark and still on high alert. pg&e has proactively shut off the power to several homes in alameda, contra costa and santa clara counties because of the windy and dry conditions. more than 800 customers in the bay area have had their power cut to reduce fire risk. it's in the areas in purple on the map, on your screen. mostly rural communities. chief meteorologist jeff ranieri just got an updated forecast for us. we're going to bring him in now. so let's talk about the winds. still an issue tomorrow. it looks like we'll get these on and off wind gusts in the forecast here with us throughout this weekend. right now we're seeing at the strongest at the coastline in the north bay. as expected 24 in san francisco, up to 25 in santa rosa tomorrow morning. overall, we'll consider this a break. it's just 5 to 15mph throughout a lot of the bay area, except san francisco that will be at 25, will be under a quick pop of some wind tomorrow afternoon, up to 29. in san francisco. most of
1:42 am
these lower and inland valley locations would be ten to about 25. and then we would see this continue to go downwards. saturday night we'll talk more about the system that's helping to produce this wind and what it's going to mean for those temperatures for your weekend. i'll see you back here in about 15 minutes. okay. we'll see you then. thank you. jeff. well, you heard jeff. tell us right now. windy and dry. a combination that is dangerous. several small fires popped up in san jose today. this one near coyote creek at galveston and summerside avenue. you can see the smoke pouring right behind the homes. firefighters luckily able to jump on it quickly. now, tonight crews are looking at what sparked these fires and if they might be connected. nbc bears jocelyn moran joins us now. and jocelyn. long weekend ahead tonight. some in livermore are without power at this tesla and greenville intersection. you can see there is now a generator. the stoplight is working. in fact, some who are dealing with these public safety power shut offs are relying on generators. tonight in livermore, pg&e power shut offs
1:43 am
are leaving several streets in the dark. the outages are affecting people in alameda, contra costa and santa clara counties and are expected to last through saturday. pg&e says because of the high winds and dry conditions, these shutoffs are to help prevent a wildfire. fire crews throughout the bay area have had a busy few days. san jose fire teams responded to a couple of grass fires today, but were able to quickly put them out. the cal fire santa clara unit responds to fires in several counties, including alameda and contra costa. they say the windy conditions could allow a fire to spread rapidly. we are watching our entire unit and we are fully staffed and so is the whole state of california. in santa clara unit, we have 16 engines and three dozers and three crews available to respond to any incident. for many, it's day two of the public safety power shutoffs. the generator i can use to keep my refrigerator and freezer to keep from losing food and whatever, and unplug it and plug something else in for a minute or whatever. but i don't have any
1:44 am
water. this generator isn't strong enough to run the water pumps that serve the torres home and their farm, and like a lot of the area, her property is very dry. if there was a little fire or something here that we could put out, we couldn't do anything. meantime, pg&e says additional public safety power shut offs are possible. we know that this weather may continue, and that's why we may have to do sort of a second round to this psps, but it would be a lot smaller. and cal fire recommends staying vigilant. and if you are going to be doing yard work, do it in the morning in livermore. i'm jocelyn moran, nbc bay area news. it was a busy day for fire crews across the bay area. small brush fire broke out in redwood city. this happened on bloomquist street, not far from the redwood city police department. you can see a patch of dry grass that burned. no one was hurt and no buildings were damaged. firefighters also quickly put out a fire in oakland. the fire department posted this video on social media showing just how close the flames got to homes. it started just before four this afternoon
1:45 am
on macarthur boulevard near castlemont high school. about 30 firefighters responded and got it under control before it damaged any of those homes. caused the fire still under investigation. new details tonight about a smash and grab gone wrong for thieves in the east bay. focus on the left. there. you saw it. left side of your screen. the owner of bj's jewelersells us this happened just before two. the thieves. you can see them backing up their car right into the store. and then you can see all these men just start running out rummaging through the store. however, those suspects left empty handed. that's because the store wasn't open at the time of the break-in, and the owner told us he'd removed all the merchandise from the front of the store. well, it feels very painful. and when you are a hard working person and you're working hard and the losers are coming and breaking into and trying to steal all your wealth and everything, you know. so this is pretty painful. no arrests have been made. dublin police tell us that they believe this burglary is tied to a recent jewelry store robbery.
1:46 am
other ones. and it comes a day after a smash and grab robbery in fremont. that burglary at the jewelers. police say a group of thieves used a car to ram the store as well, then stole tens of thousands of dollars worth of merchandise. officers arrested four suspects but are still searching for a few oths. new at 11 stunning arrest. we're learning that san jose police officer is facing serious charges tonight, according to the mercury news 51 year-old, timothy fay has worked for the san jose police department for two decades. he was arrested last week on suspicion suspicion of firing his gun inside a home in morgan hill. he's also accused of assaulting his fiancee's young daughter in monterey county. fay appeared in court today. during the hearing, a judge revoked his $200,000 bail and ordered him to jail. the san jose police department tells us that fay has been placed on administrative leave. they released a statement about the arrest, saying in part, while we understand the public's concern, we are bound by state law, which limits the information we can release regarding personnel matters. the trust of our community is of
1:47 am
utmost importance and we remain dedicated to accountability, transparency, transparency and integrity. fay will be back in court on wednesday. los angeles mayor karen bass taking aim at vice president j.d. vance today for the comments he made during his visit to los angeles. she accused the vp of spewing lies and disrespecting senator alex padilla. the heated exchange comes just hours after the vice president's own news conference, where he took jabs at both mayor bass and governor newsom. nbc's robert kovacik has the details. the federal building in westwood, where protesters gathered tonight, and where vice president j.d. vance arrived here in l.a. today and went there to say what a great american city los angeles is, and what a great tragedy it is that we have allowed illegal immigration and rioting to destroy, i think, one of the great gems of american, of the american family, the leader of los angeles, not invited to meet with the vp, had something to
1:48 am
say about l.a. as well. it is an absolute lie to say the city of 500mi■!s. when maybe two square miles. there were problems that lasted a few hours that we were perfectly capable of handling. the blame for the alleged destruction in los angeles. you had people who were doing the simple job of enforcing the law, and they had rioters egged on by the governor and the mayor, making it harder for tm to do their job. that is disgraceful. how dare you say that city officials encourage violence. we kept the peace. vance, who is also president of the u.s. senate, dismissed last week's incident when senator alex padilla was forcibly removed and handcuffed by federal authorities after interrupting the homeland security secretary's news conference. it's pure political theater, but that comment is not what sparking outrage tonight. well, i was hoping jose padilla would be here to ask a question. and
1:49 am
how dare you disrespect him and call him jose? but i guess he just looked like anybody to you. well, he's not just anybody to us. he is our senator. governor newsom pouncing as well, saying that was no accident. that was robert kovacik reporting. also today, the legal battle between the president of the united states and the governor of california over who has control over the national guard, returned to a san francisco federal courtroom. the state asked the judge to issue an injunction barring president trump from federalizing the state guardsmen. but instead of hearing arguments, the judge ordered both sides to pause and file written arguments by monday. answering one very important question do they believe this? his court has legal standing to rule on the issue. now, this question comes after a higher court issued a ruling last night blocking the state's attemptpto get a temporary restraining order that would restrain that restraining order would have immediately stopped the president's deployment of thousands of guardsmen to l.a. the state has argued the president overreached
1:50 am
by federalizing troops over the state's objections. the president has said federal law gives him the justification he needs. both sides have said they intend to appeal the issue all the way to the supreme court. on the streets of redwood city, calling for an end to the ice raid sweeping california demonstrators out tonight, saying they are there to stand up for justice and democracy. we all need to get out there and do something, whatever it is that we feel comfortable doing, we need to get out there and do something. protesters attended by members of showing up for racial justice and bandeiras unidas. we're back in 60s just ahead. this news could ruin your future summer plans by the south bay. great america may be closing sooner than expected. and could you hear it from your house? the bay area's own metallica rocking levi's tonight. they're back on sunday for more, but guess what? not exactly more of the same. and i'll take a look at that wind

1:53 am
the swell there. that's the correct video when a man put his hands on the hood of lin's car to get him to stop. instead, lin sped up, swerved sharply, throwing the victim to the ground before taking off. that person suffered a broken foot and a large gash on his face. lin is charged with elder abuse, assault, and leaving the scene after a hit and run crash. santa clara county is investing investing in immigration support services. as immigration enforcement escalates. thee countyty has approved spending more than $8 million of its budget on immigration related services. that money is on top of the $5 million that was approved by the board of supervisors last year. the funding will be used to pay for legal services, outreach and rapid response. a fight tonight to save two immigrant owned businesses in san francisco, community leaders, small business advocates and locals gathered in the castro tonight. they rallied against the pending evictions of castro coffee company and the castro nail salon. both businesses are owned by a family that immigrated from the west bank back in the 1960s,
1:54 am
and has operated in the castro since 1982. we're here to support castro coffee company and castro nail salon to beloved legacy businesses that have served the castro for decades and are now at threat of being evicted because of a speculative landlord corporate greed. now the family learned their lease would not be renewed back in january. it reportedly came at the direction of another planet entertainment, which seeks to absorb the storefronts into their private entertainment complex, which is tied to the castro theater. great america could be closing sooner than expected. back in 2022, owners of cedar fair sold the pars land to developer prologis for $310 million. the park was given 6 to 11 years to shut down, but the lease agreement gave prologis the right to terminate the lease early with two years notice. during a recent investor's meeting, the ceo of six flags said the park could close after the 2027 season if
1:55 am
the park's lease is not extended. but a spokesperson for six flags told us the park's land land lease will expire in 2028, with a potential five year renewal option. at this time, we're still in the planning stages and are working with city officials and engaging the community. okay, metallica rocking the south bay tonight. tens of thousands of fans filled levi's stadium for the first of two performances by the heavy metal band. band promised no repeats this weekend, which means they're putting on two totally different sets. fans he spoke to say they were excited to see the band back in the bay area. i've been watching metallica growing up. i'm originally from india and i remember listening to metallica during some of those really low days, and i'm so happy to be here and watch them perform live. it's my dream come true. metallica will perform again on sunday. pantera will be their
1:56 am
opening act, and that show starts at 6 p.m. now it looks like a fantastic show. we needed to do the newscast from there. yeah, no one would be able to hear us. we'll be able to hear us. if we went to the show tonight, we wouldn't be able to hear each other. oh, man. it would have been a good way to kick off the weekend, and i know a lot of folks are ready for that weekend to get here, and we can show you. we are looking at a system here off to the north. there's actually some unusual amount of rainfall heading to the pacific northwest. they'll get about a half inch of rain tomorrow. that's about a third of what they should see for the entire month of june. so wet weather up there. we're just on the bottom edge of it. only a few spotty showers near the california oregon border. so with us on the southern side of the system. unfortunately, no rainfall for us, but we will get into some on and off wind. let me show you more details about that in your microclimate weather. and you know, we've been hearing a lot about the wind. we've heard about pg&e power shut offs. what i want you to know about this is, in most part, the strongest gusts will
1:57 am
be at the coastline. it's also helping to import some humidity, with some of this wind coming in from the ocean. so it's not the driest of winds. and right now we're not expecting it to go to extreme levels throughout the bay area. that's why right now we're not under any red flag fire warnings. nonetheless, fire danger will be elevated this time of the year. so as we start off tomorrow morning here at 7:00, we'll see the gusty conditions here in san francisco. 25 not too bad for the inland valleys as we head into tomorrow afternoon. around 1:00 or 2:00. we'll see a quick pop here, some wind getting up to about 20 to 40mph. san francisco and through the coastline. it's 15 to about 26 here. for most of the lower elevations. we would then see it start to taper off saturday evening, and then we're under somewhat of some calmer winds by sunday morning. and then by sunday afternoon we'll see a little bit of a breeze kicking up. but right now it doesn't look as bad. so sunday right now looks like the better day of the weekend when it comes to that wind. now, temperatures tomorrow morning when we get some of these breezes kicking up, you're
1:58 am
going to feel it out there. so make sure to have that jacket. we're back down in the 50s all across the bay area around five, six and 7:00 with mostly sunny skies. i don't know, maybe, just maybe, you're sleeping in, so you're just going to be able to enjoy the start to that weekend as we take you to these temperatures here. not too hot. 75 in san jose, 78 in morgan hill out here to the east. bay 74 vallejo, 79 in livermore, 70 back towards hayward. it's chilly at the coastline. can't get out of that with 60s down to palo alto. we're at 74 up to san francisco, 50s and 60s and blustery with those gusts out here to napa. we're coming in at 81. not here. we're doing some traveling across the state shouldn't be too hot through the central valley. temperatures will be in the 80s for the most part from redding to fresno. palm springs, though, will be the hottest at 94 right here on that 7-day forecast. we'll hold on to 60s in san francisco. less wind on sunday will again make it much more enjoyable. so let's jam out to some metallica and
