right now at 11. the clock is ticking for california. tonight, we're again facing threats and funding cuts from the trump administration, this time over the state's inclusion of transgender athletes in school sports. the department of education says california is in violation of title nine. nbc's alyssa goard explains how the state might respond with this deadline fast approaching. the department of education says california violated title nine by allowing transgender youth to participate in the school sports teams that align with their gender identity. the u.s. secretary of education saying the findings, quote, make clear that california has failed to adhere to its obligations under federal law. now, the department is giving california ten days to comply and make changes, including restoring awards for

and sending apology letters to girls who competed against and lost to trans athletes. this comes after abby hernandez, who is openly trans, competed and won at the high school state track and field championships weeks ago. at the time, the governing body for the competition announced a change in the rules so that if a trans athlete medaled in any race, the biological female athletes they knocked off the podium would also medal. california based trans family support services, which supports hernandez, says today's findings by the department of education are another blow to trans youth. every hit that comes is just another step of devastation towards our youth and their families. kathy mullin thinks we'll see california and other states push back. law professor pat kane agrees. i can't imagine that california is going to say that the current position of the department of education is correct, but she says this will be a complicated case to argue in court and may be an uphill

to me, i don't think it's thatw. necessary. i mean, they had a war. they fought. this will be a real departure. i mean, americans have not met directly with iranian officials since 1979. usually they've used intermediaries through the algerians, through the swiss, through others. so this is a rather remarkable if he is indeed implying a face to face meeting. stephen zunes, professor of politics and the director of middle eastern studies at the university of san francisco, said an agreement may take some time. trump's kind of depreciating, approaching this almost like it's a real estate deal, saying he can make these demands and push it through. and it may be more complicated than that. meantime, president trump continues to claim the strikes on iran's nuclear sites devastated its nuclear program. it was very, very successful. it was called obliteration. pushing back against reports that the defense intelligence agency, in an initial assessment, said the iranian nuclear program was set back just 3 to 6 months. when

pressed today, the president acknowledged the report's findings but described it was premature. they presented a report that wasn't finished. they didn't see it. all they can do is take a guess. and late tonight, the cia director said credible intelligence indicates iran's nuclear program has been severely damaged and would have to be rebuilt over the course of years. meanwhile, the cease fire between iran and israel is holding for a second day. nato secretary general praising president trump for that agreement and made a notable comment when the president compared israel and iran to squabbling kids. they fight like hell. you can't stop them. let them fight for about 2 or 3 minutes, then it's easy to stop them. and then he has to. sometimes you strong language, strong language. you have to use a certain word. jocelyn moran, nbc bay area news. back here at home, this just in t the oakland unified school district, has adopted a new budget for the upcoming school year. board members voted to approve a roughly $300 million spending plan. but the district says it

1:52 am
sheriff robert johnson emphasized his department does not assist ice, but says if agents find out from public court records when someone is being released and show up peacefully and respectfully, they will be treated like any other agency. we heard from the county executive who agreed with the sheriff's stance. we're going to respond to a question that we would give any other member of the public. meaning, if, robert, you came in and you asked and you knew that somebody was being released and you asked, well, what time are they expected to be? if we could get that information, we will get it to you. just like for anybody but many community groups, including silicon valley, de-bug says the groups and the county agreed on a policy barring county officers from responding to any inquiries regarding incarceration status. they're not supposed to be even interacting or talking to us to begin with. so, you know, it's concerning to our community because if they are sharing information which they claim they they don't, but how else is
1:53 am
ice going to find this information? they say it's online. but for our experiences, some of this information cannot be found online. the sheriff reiterated ice agents are provided any information the public also has access to, and points out law enforcement agencies may not cooperate, but they also cannot stop any arrest or operation if they feel that somebody is impeding or interfering with their lawful job. they could come back and prosecute us. robert honda, nbc bay area news. more trouble for intel. the struggling tech giant is announcing layoffs in the south bay. intel plans to lay off more than 100 people at four locations in santa clara. it's the first cut in a wider plan to slash nearly a quarter of intel's entire workforce. along with the job cuts, intel will hit the brakes on its automotive division. the silicon valley company has been dealing with a drop in sales, along with intense competition from its rivals like nvidia. work

extremely hot, because this cool air to the north is checking it, but we're still going to be warming up. we'll get you the latest on this plus a 14 day forecast and that microclimate weather. let's go ahead and start it off with tomorrow morning. and there you can see the fog is back but it doesn't look too extensive. we'll see that fog right here at the coastline. also a little batch here. some low clouds near the east bay and also throughout the bay. and then the majority of this, as you can see right here, clears back by the afternoon with just some fog left at the beaches. morning temperatures. we are back down again in the 50s. we have seen this several mornings in a row that will leave us with 56 in the south bay, 54 in san francisco, 53 in the north bay. then check this out through the afternoon. numbers going up 4 to 6 degrees warmer. so down here in the south bay, that's going to put us back to 80 in san jose, 82 in los gatos, 79. cupertino 85 in gilroy out to the east bay. look at this. a better day for you in oakland and hayward. we'll get into the low 70s. fremont 80 and over those east bay hills, 88, in concord, the coastline. still
