>> announcer: live from the kgo tv broadcast centers, this is abc 7 news. good evening. i'm ama daetz. a man is in custody accused of shooting his neighbor he police say came home to the wrong apartment. a student at sf kr spent the night out with friends and came home to his building on mission street just after 1:40 this morning. a abc 7 news says he walked out of the elevator over to what he thought was his apartment.

unfortunately two floors below his. he was shot. the man who shot him surrendered to police. authorities in the east bay are searching for a gunman after a deadly clash on 570. crews responded just before 1:00 p.m. they had to shut down eastbound lane os to clean up and investigate a homicide. abc 7 news reporter report. >> reporter: officers shut down all lanes of this stretch of 580 backing up traffic for miles. the male driver of the blue suv lost ctrol after being shot by someone in another car. >> we don't believe the lone occupant was firing at anybody. we believe that the suspect or suspects were firing at him. >> reporter: witnesses say the suv rolled over multiple times before hitting the center divide. people who live along the freeway heard the gunshots and the crash. >> there was five gunshots. pop, pop, pop -- >> i grabbed my jacket, ran

outside because i thought one of my brothers got shot and then i heard the car crashing, and we came and ran up here. you could see the man over in dead in the car with a gunshot wound. it's sad. >> reporter: it's unclear if the driver died from the gunshot or the impact of the crash. at this point police have no idea if this was road rage or something else. >> trying to determine, again, a motive or if the victim had any enemies or anybody that might have warranted to shoot him. >> reporter: richmond police are hoping witnessless come forward. they say someone should have seen something, considering it was a relatively busy time of day. richmond residents say thank goodness no one else was hurt. >> it's sad. i don't know what the situation was, but innocent people riding on the freeway. a stray bullet could have hit one of them. >> reporter: anyone with information is urged to call police for abc 7 news. and tonight san francisco police are looking for the driver in a fatal hit-and-run in the mission district. at 1:40 this morning the driver

ran a red light as cesar chavez and folsom streets and ran into another vehicle. its driver later died at the hospital. police say the suspects took off running however one passenger remained behind to talk to police. the describer of a third car damped in the crash suffered minor injuries. new details about that santa clara teen stowaway who survived a flight to hawaii in the wheelwell of a jet. he's back in custody atocial services. the contra costa times, according to their report. the 15-year-old is no longer in hawaii after spending about two weeks there recovering. his father flew to hawaii opening to reunite with his son. hawaiian officials reportedly denied the father's request to see his son and bring him back home. there were tense moments at great america today after riders became stuck. it wasn't on any of the big rides. it was the delta flier eagles

the bay bridge and most the flags blowing in the wind over the ferry building. here's what you need to know. we're going to have increasing clouds overnight with a chance of patchy fog tomorrow morning again. the cooling trend continues into monday, and then warmer by the middle of next week, and here's why. the pacific satellite image shows an area of low pressure. so it's circulating counterclockwise bringing a strong onshore flow. that brought cooler conditions inland today and continuing to move east. as it does, slightly cooler numbers into monday. after that, high pressure rebuilds and temperatures will rebound middle of the week. overnight lows in the upper 40s mainly to near 50 and low 50s out there. 53 in san francisco. 52 in palo a lot oh alto. numbers similar to today's numbers. 62 in san francisco. 61 half moon bay. upper 60s through fremont, palo

coming up tonight at 11:00 ap, a man accused of saving lives now accused of taking a life. killed his own fiancee. a new efficiency when it comes to toilets. thousands of bowls used to help keep money from going down the drain, tonight on abc 7 news at 11:00. comic book fans rushed to stored today to get their hands on free comics. happy kids of all ages lined up at fantastic comics in berkeley. they got to meet in of their favorite comic fantasy and sci-fi characters. big comic companies like marvel, d.c. and image were offering 60 different comics for free. stores handed out a total of about a million nationwide.
