many people got sick. >> reporter: health department investigators are interviewing patients and test samples. the educated guess by doctors here is this is food born related illness. they are asking anyone who had symptoms to come forward and be interviewed. >> every other friday they give bags of food out. >> reporter: shirley jones praises the work done to feed people here. an annual free thanksgiving meal fed some 835 people thursday. >> you know, sad about the fact that they got sick this particular day, when they've been doing it for years. >> reporter: by saturday, the medical center admitted eight patients reporting vomiting and diarrhea. three people died. four were treated and released and one person remains hospitalized. >> just from our experience, it's usually sometng that is food born. >> reporter: health services is investigating. >> all the patients are associated with the same living facility, so it's unclear if the

restaurant. officers have cordon off the area. three people were shot and one is dead. police say another victim took off after being shot but was later found at the 880 on rach. as for the gunman, police have three suspects in custody. officers were in the area and were able to find the suspects quickly. >> the suspect vehicle that was stopped had at least three occupants in it. at this point, we're not looking for any additional suspect vehicles or weapons. at this point, there's no known ongoing threat to the public. >> many people were here at the union landing shopping center at

the time of the shooting, either dining or going to and from the theater. live in union city, lillian kill, "abc7 news." developing news out of castro valley. less are on the lookout for a gunman who shot and killed a man this afternoon near castro valley high school. the victim was a 37-year-old father who lived on the streets. gunshots hit neighboring homes but no other injuries were reported. a driver reading a text message slammed into a 12-year-old boy who was on a cross walk. he had possibly a broken leg. the driver stayed on scene and cooperated with police. police arrested a man accused of molesting a child on b.a.r.t. the 9-year-old girl was on a train headed west towards the bay fair station. 26-year-old marcus brown touched her on the legs and the buttocks. after police arrested brown, the child identified him. brown faces several molestation charges and is banned from b.a.r.t. for up to a year.

new at 11:00, hundreds turned out in south san francisco tonight for a candle light vigil to honor the police officer who was violently attacked with a scape board. officer robbie chong was hit on thanksgiving day. as katie marzullo explains, tonight's vigil brought out friends, family and colleagues. >> reporter: police closed the street to make room for the more than 200 people who came to support officer robbie chong. >> just a really good hearted person, always smiling. >> reporter: she met the officer through the citizens academy. >> they're family, and they made us feel like family. >> reporter: the officer was responding to a man causing a disturbance around 2:30 thanksgiving day.

the man hit the officer on the head with a skateboard and knocked him unconscious. 28-year-old luis ramos was arrested. officer chon is a husband and father. his sister spoke at the vigil. >> as i look into my 2-year-old nephew's eyes, i want to assure them that everything will be okay. >> reporter: he has a long and difficult recovery ahead, but his family and officers are hopeful, after learning he gave his doctors a thumbs up. >> i think we should all give a thumbs up to officer chon. >> reporter: congresswoman jackie spear was among those who thanked the community for coming. >> we have that hometown feeling. >> reporter: in addition, south san francisco has also it will up its city hall in blue in honor of the officer. katie marzullo, "abc7 news." you're looking at video shot by a united airlines passenger on a flight as it dumps fuel before making a safe land thing afternoon. flames shot from one of the four engines moments after it took

off from san francisco to tokyo. the flight returned about three hoarse later. nobody was hurt. united couldn't confirm that the engine caught fire. tonight, san francisco's muny says it's contained most of the hack which compromised much of its systems over the weekend. "abc7 news" was there today as the commute went on smoothly. computers that run the subway trains were not affected. did not impact transit service and we're encouraged that it doesn't appear that customer's information was breached. >> it appears the cyber attack originated in eastern europe. kl

artan. tonight, the crime scene tape is down, but the active investigation continues here at ohio state university. local and federal authorities believe the suspect acted alone, but they are working to figure out if his motive was terror related. confuse and chaos on the campus of ohio state university. >> reporter: investigators say monday morning, a driver jumped a curb and plowed into several people near the school's engineering building. he got out armed with a butcher knife and started slashing. >> people were like, don't go to campus, there's an active shooter. >> reporter: a heroic campus cop, two years on the force, opened fire, killing the

suspect. >> he was yelling and the guy wouldn't stop and the guy charged the cop and the cop was forced to shoot him. >> reporter: there was no active shooter, but the terrifying scene and the officer's shots sparked panic. students barricaded themselves in classrooms. the university tweeted, active shooter, run, hide, fight. the attacker, identified as osu student 18-year-old abdul artan. this is a photo of him in the university newspaper. >> authorities need to treat this as a potential terrorist attack. >> reporter: police and the fbi are searching the suspect's home for more clues on motive. but leaders in the muslim community spoke out urging people not to jump to conclusions and falsely link this tragic incident to the faith of islam.

one person has been hurt. flames have burned 30 buildings, including a high rise hotel in gatlinburg, east of knoxville. more california mosques have received a letter threatening genocide against muslims. delta airlines. he was shouting about donald trump and making derogatory comments about hillary clinton. today, delta's ceo refunded everyone's fare, saying the man should have been removed immediately. meantime, people who feel threatened by what they perceive as the changing social climate of a donald trump presidency met for an empowering seminar. it taught them how to protect themselves physically, emotionally, and legally. organizers say it's a way to bring people together after what appears to be a rise in hostility. >> there's so many people scared right now, so many people that don't want to go out, even in the places they feel they were safe they don't feel they are right now. >> lessons included self-defense and how to report a hate crime. today, donald trump meat with david petraeus as a possible candidate for secretary of state. the president-elect tweeted, just met with general david petraeus, was very impressed. last year, david petraeus pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor

charge after providing classified information to his mistress. counties in wisconsin will be allowed to decide if they recount ballots by hand or machine. jill stein has raised the money necessary for that recount. protesters received an emergency evacuation order telling them to get off land controlled by the u.s. army corps of engineers. the standing rock sioux wants to stop the construction of a pipeline, citing safety concerns. and you put the rain gear away for the time being. a dry pattern is setting up. live doppler 7 hd was busy tracking the showers and right now we're getting the all-clear. but the weekend rains help to bump up our seasonal numbers.

i guess he doesn't miss kevin durant. derek carr seems to add to his legacy every week with his gun slinging arm. yesterday against the panthers he dislocated his pinky finker, pops it back in and leads his team to the victory. he sustained the injury on the second play of the third quarter. the finger was not broken and he returned with a glove. michael crabtree sets up the game winner with this catch. today, the head coach is still amazed. >> it was awesome. i think the team really got a lift from it. you know, that's all good stuff. comeback like that, put the glove on, and lead us down and get a big win like that. that was good stuff. >>
