meet later this morning to decide whether to apply its new rates to current solar customers. kolo 8 news now's matt vaughan has more on what today's decision could mean for the solar community going forward. this has been a controversial topic for some time now ... but depending which direction commissioners decide to go today ... it could mean a bit of relief for people who bought their solar panels in years past. ... commissioner david noble submitted a draft order last wednesday calling for reconsideration of the so-called "grandfathering" issue. meaning the commission could vote to apply the new, higher rates to only new customers ... and allow existing solar customers to pay the more favorable rates they'd been paying prior to the rate hike. the commission voted in december that solar customers need to pay more per month, to support the electrical grid. they also voted customers should be paid less for the power they put back into the power grid. at a meeting two weeks ago ... commissioners decided to uphold the rate hike. that decision has forced several solar companies to stop sales in nevada. premier solar solutions recently announced that it closed its office in henderson. company officials say they had to lay off 66 employees ... and will be moving to a state with "more favorable

a manhunt is underway for three inmates who officials say broke out of a maximum security jail in santa ana, california. they escaped friday.... and managed to cut through steel bars in their cells and sneak through plumbing tunnels to the roof. after that, they reportedly used sheets to repel four stories to the ground. the escapees include a suspected murderer and two inmates charged with attempted murder and kidnapping. the three are considered dangerous. a 50-thousand dollar reward is being offered for information leading to their capture. more trouble for takata. a tenth death has been linked the company's faulty airbags. as a result, u-s regulators added five million more cars to the 19-million vehicles already under recall. the company released a statement offering condolences to the victim's family. takata has struggled for years since its inflators were discovered to be defective. the bags can explode when activated, firing out shards of metal and glass. takata faces multiple private legal actions,

fines and a u-s justice department investigation. a recall is in effect for various brands of packaged salad -- that could be linked to a deadly listeria outbreak. the c-d-c says twelve people were hospitalized in six states. one patient died from the listeria infection. officials say all the patients ate packaged salads that came from a dole processing plant in springfield, ohio. the salads were sold under the brand names.... dole, fresh selections, simple truth, marketside, the little salad bar, and president's choice. the water contamination crisis in flint, michigan has sparked an outpouring of support. so much so.... one canadian hockey team is putting the competition on hold, donating thousands of water bottles to it's rival city of flint. costa papista, president, flint

was forced to make an emergency landing in canada after severe turbulence. it hit like a big dip and that's, uh, some flight attendants were without seatbelts and then they hurt themselves, and then the other people, like, i guess people passed out, because, you know, it was bad, scary. seven passengers were hospitalized with injuries. the american airlines flight landed at saint john's international airport in canada last night. the flight was headed from miami to milan, italy. three flight attendants and four passengers were among those hospitalized.
