up later this week. if conditions don't improve... customers will be allowed to leave extra bags on the curb next monday. ### the storm made a significant impact on our snowpack. today hydrologists measured just how much snow, and how much water we have. kolo 8 news now's colin lygren joins us live from the mount rose summit with the latest snow totals. colin? sarah.. some very good news to report here today... the snowpack right now... is at 125-percent or normal. that is up from 110 percent of normal that was measured here a month ago. trees frozen... and snow on the ground. this weekend's storm turning mt. rose... completely white. "it was a great storm for our water supply." jeff anderson today... conducting the monthly finding promising results. be almost 30 inches of liquid water sitting on the ground." not all of it... but a nice amount coming from the

the equivalent of four inches of water fell since friday. "the crest typically picks up much more water that we do on the east side of the lake, so the fact that mt. rose actually got 4 inches of precip over the weekend, four inches of water over the weekend, it is really good news." "ask any skier and they'll tell you this recent storm brought perfect snow condition. ask any hydrologist they'll tell you four inches of water is a big deal." "this was a great storm for the region and we need about a half dozen more of these to put us in pretty good shaping going into the spring." tmwa hydrologist bill hauck says the recent storm... is an encouraging sign "the latest projections show the truckee river flowing normally through august." those projections are preliminary... and don't mean we're out of the drought... but we're at least doing better. "you know, all of the reservoirs in the system are still seriously depleted at this point, and so we need a very good snowpack year to see some recovery in those reservoirs and this is an encouraging sign." just for the month of

percent of normal. obviously that's a huge improvement over january of 2015... one of the driest on record. reporting live at the mount rose summit... colin lygren... kolo 8 news now. a missing snowboarder and skier were rescued over the weekend, after going out of bounds at mount rose ski resort. washoe county officials say two people called for help saturday afternoon-- after getting lost on the slide side of the mountain. search and rescue officials say they found them, 4-hours later. they were in an avalanche prone area, which slowed the rescue process down. the skier and snowboarder were doing fine, when they were found. ### happening now: the first contest of the 2016 presidential campaign is underway. here's a live look at the iowa caucuses. they started just minutes ago. candidates spent the day using the last few hours to get their supporters out. brandi hitt takes a look at the final push in the hawkeye state. this november. some of the ways to pay for the bond would be to possibly raise taxes. shaun carey, buildourschools.com, " you would need appromiately a half cent increase in our sales tax rate and that equates to about $8 a month for a family of four. $8 a month would provide you greatly improved schools and if you did this on property tax would be about $10 a month." according to shaun carey... if the measure does not pass this november it could impact students. "double sessions in all of our junior highs and high schools and all of our elementary schools will be on year round calendering." again... there is a state of the schools meeting tonight at six p-m at damonte ranch... in which school repairs and new school construction will be discussed. paul harris... kolo 8 news now. santa barbara county officials are endorsing an oil-spill-cleanup-plan proposed by exxon mobil. the oil company plans to move more than 17-million gallons of stranded oil it was left in storage after a pipeline break on

good news for the lakes and rivers of northern nevada. here's a look at lanhotan reservoir. you can see the lake is still a long way from the top... but water is now flowing into the lake at a much faster rate. and the strong snowpack in the sierra should keep the water rising for quite a while. and, the truckee river is going strong. this is what the river looks like near lockwood east of sparks. river flows are increasing with each storm. and with lake tahoe still below the rim... there's still plenty of potential for the river to see a lot more water. ### a few weak systems will keep a slight chance of snow showers in the forecast on tuesday and wednesday, although accumulation is not expected

the abduction and murder of a 13-year-old girl. they made their first court appearances today. 18-year-old david eisenhauer and 19-year- old natalie keepers were formally advised of the charges against them in the death of nicole lovell. eisenhauer is accused of first degree murder.. and keepers with helping to dispose of the body. the engineering students are from the same maryland county where eisenhauser was a high school track star. today, the principal at

said he was shocked by the allegations against the young man. "he was a very pleasant young man, very goal driven but focused on academics and focused on his running he was an outstanding runner." police have not commented on the cause police have not commented on the cause of death or potential motive. the two suspects will return to court next month. lovell's mother said her daughter might have met eisenhauer online. police believe a deadly shooting in south lake tahoe this weekend-- stemmed from a drug deal. it happened saturday night, at the beverly lodge. police found 40-year- old dennis wright junior outside a room with a gunshot wound to his chest. he later died at the hospital. police say wright and a woman drove to south lake-- to deliver a- hundred pounds of marijuana. a fight broke out, and shots were fired. the woman suffered a head injury. anyone with information about the shooting, should call south lake tahoe police. ### the last two escaped inmates from a southern california jail are back

jonathan tieu and hossein nayeri were captured in san francisco on saturday after someone flagged authorities reporting a suspicious person and vehicle in a whole foods parking lot. police apprehended nayeri after a short foot pursuit and found tieu hiding inside the van. investigators say tieu and nayeri had kidnapped a taxi driver and were arguing over whether they should kill him. but a jail teacher arrested for helping them escape... will not be charged. "as for ms. nooshafarin ravaghi, the esl teacher, we've requested further investigation of the sheriff's department concerning her case. at this time, we have insufficient evidence to charge her with any crime." the third escapee....43- year-old bac duong turned himself into authorities last week. the deadline to register for the nevada caucuses is fast approaching.

keep in mind the democratic caucus is february 20th on a saturday---beginning at 11. the republican caucus is february 23rd from 5:30-to-8:30 the caucuses, slated for later in february are only the third such events for nevadans where our state is scheduled so early in the process. both parties are trying to make it as easy to understand and particicpate as possible. here at democratic headquarters in washoe county, pam dupre shows us their website. dupre: caucus dot nvdems.com you can type in your name, and find your caucus location. aren't registered, no problem, there's a link to the secretary of states office to do that for you as well. there's even a fast track system. pam dupre: what's called an express check in number or code. and that code, when you get there, you will be able to slide right in. it's going to make the registration process on caucus day go much more smoothly. dupre says you can register as a democrat on site the day of the caucuses that is not the case with the republicans. the party's website too has information on your precinct site.
