carson city sheriff's deputies have made an arrest in a deadly hit and run. 37-year-old juan pablo rios is charged with failing to stop at the scene of a crash involving injury or death, which is a felony. detectives say rios hit gustova garcia-valdes at the intersection of highway 50 and brown street last wednesday. rios told a friend what happened, which police say led to his arrest. garcia valdes died at renown last friday. rios' bail is set at 50- thousand dollars. ### a warning this morning to be on high alert when you answer your phone. the washoe county sheriff's office says scammers are posing as sheriff's deputies to try and get your money. they're even using the names of people who actually work at the sheriff's department. here's how it works. the caller says there's a warrant out for your arrest. they say you can either surrender and agree to be arrested, or pay a "reduced" fine. you'll be asked to pay-- by using an "e-gift" card, or something similar. it's important to remember-- local law enforcement will never ask for payment over the phone, for warrants or fines.

these calls-- write down the caller's name and phone number, then call the sheriff's office at 328-3001. ### a bizarre story out of elko. a man has been arrested for the unlawful killing of an eagle and illegally possessing raptor parts. as kolo 8 news now's terri russell explains, they were discovered after a traffic stop. and we do want to warn you, these images may be disturbing for some people. this is video from nevada's department of wildlife showing eagle and hawk feathers allegedly found in 30-year-old dana morley mcivor's possession. in all, authorities say there were two recently-killed eagles, and a hawk, two wings from two recently-killed hawks, along with 124 separate eagle and hawk feathers . authorities estimate the feathers came from at least two or three additional raptors including an eagle. chris healy/nevada department of wildlife: you can certainly drop the hammer once the crime is found out. and this

gentleman in elko county who was caught with these raptor feathers. according to n-dow, mcivor told them he was keeping the parts for religious celebrations. while that is legal, mcivor or any other native american who uses raptor parts or feathers for ceremonies must have a permit from the u-s fish and wildlife. law enforcement said he did not. the program called, the national eagle repository, was set up in the early 19-70s, and collects, inventories and distributes raptor feathers to native americans who apply and gain access to the program. mcivor faces seven counts on state charges, all of them misdemenors. other states may become involved depending upon where the birds came from. and if federal agencies take the case there could be felony charges for mcivor. n- dow says raptor parts and feathers can make their way to the black market. in this case the estimated worth is ten thousand dollars. in reno, terri russell kolo 8 news now. in about 5 months.. the

eisenhauer is facing charges of kidnapping and murder. keepers' bail hearing is set for today. the man who escaped from an upstate new york prison last summer will be sentenced in court today. convicted killer, david sweat, pleaded guilty to two felony charges related to the escape - which carry sentences of up to 7 years. sweat and fellow escapee-- richard matt--eluded police for three weeks before being captured in the woods 30-miles from the prison. matt was fatally shot during the capture. sweat was found 2-days later in the same area, heading toward the canadian border. the head of the enivornmental protection agency says it is committed to providing safe drinking water to the people of flint, michigan. the u-s house oversight committee is holding the first congressional hearing on the crisis today. here's a live look at the hearing that is underway right now in washington d.c. meantime, the e-p-a is in flint collecting water samples for another round of testing. the town's water crisis began in april of 2014, when the water became

morning. although only a few inches of snow is a local invention is helping ski racers improve their form on the slopes. in ski racing, every second counts and the slightest variation from perfect form can mean the difference between placing first and last. traditionally racers watch film or are told at the end of a race what they did wrong. but, 'forward ski' -- invented by chris bender at sky tavern--is making a difference for the next generation of racers. "racers have some real basic body positions they have to maintain. one is a dynamic forward balance position and the other is independent foot. if you do not have those two things right, it is very hard to accomplish a good solid racing turn." it looks like plans are moving ahead for paid parking at m-g-m owned properties on the las vegas strip. the casino giant announced yesterday that chicago-based "sp plus" will handle paid parking at its resorts ... including mandalay bay, new york-new york, bellagio and the m-g-m grand. the move is scheduled to happen within 60 days. m-g-m resorts says it's all part of a 90-million dollar parking upgrade. an altercation between the driver of a pickup truck and a group of motorcycle riders near las vegas led to a road rage incident involving a gun. and parts of the incident were caught on camera. but one driver says the video doesn't show the whole encounter. elizabeth watts reports. "i felt surrounded and threatened, it was an issue." the driver of this red truck told us anonymously that nearly a dozen motorcyclists were boulder highway. "you see the second three minutes of it, there's about 3 or 4 minutes of what they didn't show you of all the motorcycles

"one of our guys went off the dirt." the rider who filmed the incident and also wants to remain anonymous said it began with a dust up involving another rider and a blue suv. hand signals, laughter and a back and forth with that driver evident in the video, which didn't until- "one of them leaned against my truck on the front of it, and truck with his foot peg or motorcycle i don't know it and then he popped wheely's taking off and about wrecked right in front of my vehicle, and that undoubtedly is where it began." it's at that point, the driver who has a concealed weapons license, is infuriated.
