[ no audio ] morning to repair a ruptured underground pipe on the peninsula. it spewed thousands of gallons of raw sewage into the area. the pipe is near davit lane and anchor circle, in redwood shores. it's believed to have ruptured two days ago. the sewage buckled the asphalt and flowed into the garages of six houses... and into redwood shores lagoon. tests on the water show high levels of toxins and bacteria. right now, the sewage is being pumped into tanker trucks and taken to a nearby plant. people who live in

the area are being warned not to come in contact with the lagoon's water. "we do know there was a spill of some sewage, we know that there's raw sawage in the water. people should not swim, or boat or kayak or have any contact with the lagoon waters.." public works crews don't have an estimate for when the break will be repaired, although they have stopped the flow of sewage. they say they are keeping residents updated with automated phone calls. trash pickup is returning in san mateo county today. a two-day garbage strike ended last night. more than 500 allied waste collectors refused to cross the picket line in solidarity with striking workers at a landfill in half moon bay. but now the picket lines are gone. the company say pickups will be running two days behind schedule, as it handles the overflow of trash. did you feel it? an earthquake hit this morning near danville. it measured a magnitude 2.6. the quake struck

around 7:40 this morning. it was centered 3-miles west of danville, and 4- miles south of alamo, in unincorporated contra costa county. there are no reports of any aftershocks. oakland police still have no suspects in the murder of a teenager, a week before his 14th birthday. friends and family held a vigil last night for jimon (jim-ahn) clark. it was near 61st and bancroft avenues, where he was shot wednesday night. those who knew him described him as a star athlete, who also enjoyed doing magic tricks and religious activities. "it weakens you in the knees that here we are, back on page one with the violence and the corruption in our community. instead of laying off 80 police officers, they should be hiring more police officers to help curcumvent the crime that's still out there on our streets." jimon clark was shot as he and his 15-year-old brother walked to

a gas station to help a friend. investigators say the gunman went through the teenager's pockets and stole two dollars, before running off. computer giants hewlett- packard and dell are in a bidding war over a small company in fremont. this morning, palo alto-based h-p got a leg up on the competition. it increased its offer for "3-par incorporated"... nearly two billion dollars. matt bigler explains why these big corporations are willing to pay so much, for a little known company. san francisco international airport has two new & improved runways this afternoon.

runways this afternoon. congresswoman jackie speier and the administrator of the f-a-a were on hand to show off the finished project. workers leveled out two of the airport's four runways, which had settled over time. it's hoped the asphalt resurfacing will prevent sudden shutdowns due to pavement breakdown... and limit debris from crumbling pavement. today representative speier said the project also created 300 jobs. "because of this commitment, because of this investment in the airport, these people have had jobs, they've had extended hours, or they've gotten jobs for the very first time." the runway projects were paid for with more than 14 million dollars in federal stimulus money. bart is rewarding riders' loyalty by delaying the next

fare hike for six months. the transit agency has regularly scheduled fare hikes every two years to offset inflation. the next increase was set for new year's day 20-12. now, it won't go into effect until *july of that year. the move will save riders a collective 2.2 million dollars. it's all part of a larger rider appreciation package from bart's eight million dollar surplus. it includes replacing seats and installing real-time departure signs. apple is again creating some buzz. the cupertino- based company has scheduled a press conference for next week. it's not saying what it's going to talk about. but there is a lot of speculation. some believe apple will unveil a new "i-pod touch..." which could be redesigned to look like the new i-phone 4. there also may be a new i-pod shuffle. something else apple may announce... a new service to allow music streaming over the internet without having to download it. new orleans -- five years after katrina. orleans, just after the storm hit. when the levees broke, it was the first neighborhood to suffer the brunt of the destruction. today, the neighborhood is in the midst of a rebirth. it still has a long way to go. but kendis gibson shows us, signs of hope are slowing beginning to appear. (pkg) erma merril's >> reporter: the porch is all that's left in the ninth ward. she spent the week unpacking her home a few blocks away from the one flooded when the levee broke and katrina wiped out her neighborhood. [ inaudible ] >> reporter: five years later not only are the memories of the storm fresh, the disaster that remains serves as a constant reminder. [ inaudible ] [ inaudible ] the organization has built more than a dozen houses for those

who lost everything. residents may be [ inaudible ] making their way back but restoring the lower ninth ward community will take some time. [ indiscernible ] this is what they are coming back to. the local baptist church holds services once a month and only one of five schools has re- opened. about 20% out of [ indiscernible ] is back cutting the grass and sprucing up their homes. >> it's unbelievable [ indiscernible ] >> it may be christmas before a group of chilean miners is rescued from a chamber. pirits -- singing the chilean national anthem and sending messages to loved ones. they've been trapped 22- hundred
