sydnie has the morning off. we have your traffic and weather out the door. i'm sorry i called you the grim reaper. >> i have nothing but bad news for folks who want sunshine. the storms just keep rolling in and today no exception. you have more showers showing up around the bay area, some heavier amounts now headed in toward vallejo. rain coming your way in vallejo. all sagging south throughout the day. showers on and off throughout the day and more storms to come. let check traffic with gianna. >> be care wonderful slick surfaces. we are getting busy this morning. we have an accident in san jose. northbound 101 connector to 680. it is over to the right shoulder but injuries reported so may cause some spectator slowing as you work your way through there. we are seeing slight improvement on the northbound 101 drive. guadalupe parkway southbound busy in san jose. we'll have a live look at the bay bridge coming up but first back to you. >> thank you. it is 6:00 now. a murder investigation this

morning in the east bay shots were reported in a housing project this rodeo about 10:15 last night. contra costa county deputies found a man in his early 20s who had been shot and was in the street. that man was pronounced dead at the scene. no suspect information at this hour just yet. all northbound lanes of u.s. 101 at marin county are now clear afternoon a deadly early-morning accident about 1 a.m. just south of san antonio road. officers say it appears a car crashed into the center divide, then was struck by a van. a 22-year-old woman in the car was killed. four people of in the van suffering minor injuries. officers said the initial crash might have knocked the car's headlights out making it difficult to see. this morning the family of a missing student is offering a reward to get her home safely. kiet do is in hayward where michelle le was last seen last friday. good morning, kiet. >> reporter: good morning. it has been four days since michelle le went missing but this is still officially a

missing persons case. today hayward police will be talking with fairfield police about a similar case involving another nursing student missing from last year. now, last friday at 7:00 here at hayward, michelle le went missing at about 7:00 in the evening at class at kaiser hospital. she was supposed to go to reno with friends but her car was found locked and parked a few blocks away. compare that to this case. phuong le disappeared in fairfield in april of last year. phuong le was found dead in napa county. that murder is unsolved. both victims share the same last name, both nursing students, vietnamese in their mid-20s and both drive white hondas. last night in hayward, family members passed out flyers to get the word out about a $20,000 reward and they are terribly worried. >> for her, this is very unusual. she is very responsible. much more responsible than me.

>> reporter: all righty. here's a look at the flyer the family members are passing out. $20,000 reward. michelle le is 5'6", black hair, brown eyes. again, last seen here in hayward. >> the case similarities are eerie. >> not saying that the cases are related. just want to make sure that there's -- that no funny businesspolice are asking anyone with information to call them. >> thank you, kiet do live in hayward. there. family and friends will hold a vigil for the san jose mother of five murdered over the weekend a memorial set up for melissa ross shot and killed while driving near helyer park saturday night. a 20-year-old relative riding with her was uninjured. they say it's a case of

mistaken identity. a new development in the brian feeting case. today lawyers for the main suspect plan to present evidence to police they say will prove his innocence. our anne makovec is at san francisco general where stow remains in critical condition. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we don't know what the defense attorneys will be presenting to the lapd this morning. but we know that the defense team has already brought forth several family members to defend him. >> we have come across evidence, witnesses, information that we believe ultimately will set giovanni ramirez free. >> don't know the place. never been to dodger stadium. >> reporter: that was ramirez's mother just heard from. she says giovanni ramirez was never there and is not a dodger fan. he was arrested a week ago and still hasn't been arraigned on charges of beating bryan stow on march 31. ramirez is in jail on an unrelated parole hold. police maintained he is their prime suspect.

in addition to what you just heard from ramirez's mother, lawyers say his 10-year-old daughter is prepared to testify that she was with her father that day even though she was supposed to be in school. meantime, bryan stow is in critical condition. this was a statement left yesterday on his family's website. see in family is watching the case unfold. doctors are weaning him off a fourth seizure medication and they postinged this on the website. he was sleepy, hopefully more tomorrow, thank you for your support. doctors have also been working to remove some blood clots from one of his legs and everybody remaining hopeful this morning. >> thank you. time now is 6:--

bridge toll plaza. metering lights are off. a nice ride, 18 minutes from the carquinez bridge to the maze to the maze. if you are taking 880, northbound starting to see some extra volume through oakland into the maze. southbound though not bad at all. golden gate bridge problem- free, no major delays. 8 minutes south 101 from 37 to 580. in the south bay we have been monitoring this accident 101 and 680 over to the shoulder, causing slight delays. >> thank you. buyer beware. the robbery thieves are pulling off by using craigslist coming up. >> plus, sidewalk sharing on the golden gate bridge. why bicyclists and pedestrians will be forced to use this same path for the next few months. and call it the royal itinerary. the newly released details about william and kate's visit to the united states. will they be coming to the bay area? we shall see. stick around.

oakland. three people were shot on sunday night. the music is drowned out by some bone-chilling screams from the street. a documentary filmmaker just happened to be there. >> they were just shooting randomly. it seems like one person heard a gunshot and anybody else who had a gun in the area just started shooting. >> well, here's a man as he passes a camera openly carrying a gun. you see there. witnesses say it's hard to tell who was the shooter because after the shots were fired, many people pulled out handguns. cameras continue to roll as people gathered around the victim. 29-year-old eric bush of san leandro, 28-year-old latoya kenny of union city died at the scene. a verdict could be reached as early as as today in the murder trial of yusef bey iv. the former "your black muslim bakery" leader and co-defendant antoine mackey are charged in the shooting deaths of journalist chauncey bailey and two other men in the summer of

2007. both men pled not guilty and face life if convicted. more people are being robbed after responding to ads on craigslist. "the examiner" reports two cases in san francisco this month. two people from san jose were robbed at gunpoint when they showed up at an address at the bayview area to buy a used car on may 12. the robbers wore halloween masks. then last wednesday, a man from fresno was the victim of a similar robbery in visitacion valley. so far no suspects. >> we talked about that. you said being a woman you would be afraid to -- >> yeah. i would. i have a desk to sell. it's apparent when you walk know an apartment that a girl is there. >> i don't blame you. 6:12. hackers post a fake story on pbs. the phony article that's being taken down. our tech expert brian cooley breaks down the dos and

murder investigation this welcome back. here's a look at today's top stories. thinks a murder investigation this morning in -- there is a murder investigation this morning in rodeo. there were reports of shots being fired. a man in his 20s was found dead in the street. lawyers for the maybe suspect in the bryan stow beating say they can prove his innocence. giovanni ramirez has been under arrest since last week. today his lawyers will meet with l.a. police with what they say is evidence that ramirez was not at dodger stadium on the date of the beating march 31. the west sidewalk on the golden gate bridge is closed for the next four months. everyone will share the east sidewalk. people on bikes will have 24- hour access and others can use

the walkway during daylight hours. more rain into the bay area this morning. good morning, folks. if you are just getting up, clouds have moved n storm clouds are rolling through and we have more showers showing up especially in the north bay right now but even further south rain. the focus now apparently all the way up into santa rosa into the napa valley. you have a good streak here that is moving through. we are going to keep things unsettled and wet today and tomorrow and then another storm headed our way for late in the week. so with that in mind, yup, if you are headed out the door, prepare for rain, mostly cloudy, showers showing up around the bay area. temperatures staying mainly in the 40s and 50s. this afternoon you will see plenty of clouds. you will see sunny breaks in between. temperatures running well below average for this time year. right now 52 in livermore, 53 in san jose, 54 and showers showing up in the napa valley. around the state you will find more rainfall especially the further north you go. scattered showers continuing into ukiah at 62 degrees. high country get this a mixture

of some snow and some rain up there. we could see snow in the bay area area down to 4,000 feet, impressive for this time of year. a trough on the west coast allowing the storms to drop in, more showers today and tomorrow, with the possibility of isolated thunderstorms. and then things look like they settle down for thursday. after that another storm moves in, that could be a real soaker on friday. temperatures looking like this cooler than normal, 60s into the south bay, east bay 60s. and the north bay expecting 50s coastside and 60s inland. you get the idea, unsettled weather continues. more showers into tomorrow. the possibility of thunderstorms. dry on thursday. more rain moving in probably late on friday. that's a good soaker right into the weekend. time now for a traffic check with gianna. thank you. let's go live right now to our camera at 580/680 just as you come out of pleasanton towards the dublin interchange. you can see traffic is starting to load up this morning. we are seeing some extra volume

on the westbound side now. heading east of there through the altamont pass, over to our maps we go we are starting to see a backup, as well. again, west 580 getting busy there. they issued a traffic advisory for one of the off-ramps. the greenville ramp from eastbound 580 is going to be blocked. they have one-way traffic control in effect there. this is due to an accident on surface streets at greenville and south front. so give yourself some extra time through there. checking our travel times through the east bay, 19 minutes west 580 from the altamont pass to 680. 80 eastshore freeway from the carquinez bridge to the maze still looking good. and 880 if you're heading through oakland into the maze coming away from 238 not too bad. busy spot, antioch westbound 4 slow and go off antioch. traffic light. you will see some sluggish conditions through pittsburg and northbound 101 in san jose. the connector to north 680h a wreck here with injuries. activity still on scene there all of it over to the right

talk bug this man is. mitt romney is expected to announce his bid for the nomination thursday. michele bachmann and rick santorum are also expected to join the race. >> hackers pushed a fake story on pbs's website saying that tupac shakur is alive and living in new zealand. but he died from gunfire in las vegas in 1996. hackers say they sabotaged pbs' website because they are upset over the network's investigative news programming on wikileaks. critics say the show didn't feature wikileaks in a positive light. pbs since removed the false article from its website. and this morning, the "new york times" is reporting the days of uninterrupted programming by pbs may be numbered. officials have notified member station that pbs plans to start placing corporate sponsor spots

the picadilly circus was supposed to perform on mem joplin, missouri is getting help afternoon the devastating tornado. piccadilly circus was supposed to perform on memorial day but instead, it donated its elephants to help move tons of debris. the number of people still missing in joplin is down to 29 now. they say it may bring in trailers like those used after katrina to house the thousands of people displaced by the tornado that happened eight days ago. dissecting frogs in science class may never be the same. a southern california high school has become the first school in the country to ban frog die sections. instead, the school accepted a deal for free digital frog anatomy software. animal welfare groups are giving the $900 software for free to the first 25 schools who agree to put down the scalpels for five years.

the victim, in his early 20s was found wounded in the street and died at the scene. a deadly accident early this morning. it happened about 1 a.m. just south of san antonio road. officers say it appears a car crashed into the center divide then struck by a van. a 22-year-old woman in the car was killed. the four people in the van have minor injuries. officers said the initial crash might have knocked the car's headlights out making it difficult to see. all lanes in that area are now open. 6:32. hayward police digging deeper to locate a missing student nurse who disappeared last week in the east bay. kitky kit is in hayward where police are asking for help from another police department. >> reporter: good morning. detectives here at the hayward police department will be comparing notes with fairfield police about the eerie similarities to another high- profile missing nursing student from last year.

now, stay with me here. --last friday at 7:00 michelle le went missing after class in hayward. she was supposed to go to reno with a friend but her car was found a few blocks away. compare that to the case of phuong le, who vanished suddenly during a trips to barnes & noble in fairfield in april of last year and her car was found unlocked with the windows down in the parking lot. she was found dead in napa county and that case remains unsolved. so both students share the same last night, no relation though. they are both nursing students, vietnamese, both mid-20s, both drove white hondas. last night in hayward family members passed out flyers about a $20,000 reward. they are terribly worried. >> she is not a bad person. she didn't deserve to have this happen to her. [ crying ] >> i just want her home. >> reporter: here's another look at the flyer family members were passing out.

she is 26 years old, 5'6", black hair, brown eyes and anyone with any information is asked to call hayward police. she was last seen wearing white scrubs. >> kiet, they did find her car yesterday, i guess, a couple blocks from the hospital. did that help at all? >> reporter: yes, that was her car. they are waiting for a search to get in to find clues. hoping to find receipts, notes, anything but they found her car. it was a half mile away and it was usual because she typically parks in the garage but she said she drove it from the garage, parked it or someone parked it and locked it and then that's what makes this case a mystery. >> baffling. kiet do live in hayward this morning, thank you. a new twist in the bryan stow beating case. today lawyers for the main suspect plan to present some evidence to police that they say will prove his innocence. anne makovec in san francisco now with the latest developments. good morning, anne. reporter: good morning.

the defense team has a meeting this morning with the lapd. they continue to build their defense as lapd tries to build a case against him. the team says it's confident that they will be able to clear ramirez's name. they have brought several family members out to defend him. >> my son is innocent from the bottom of my heart. >> reporter: what do you base that on? >> because i know my son. he doesn't like sports. he doesn't go to places like that. >> reporter: that's ramirez's mom. she is referring to dodger stadium. she say giovanni ramirez has never been here and is not even a dodgers fan. ramirez was arrested in east hollywood over a week ago, still hasn't been officially arraigned on charges of beating bryan stow back on march 31. of course, ramirez is in jail on an unrelated parole hold meantime but police have maintained he is their prime suspect. in addition to what you just heard from ramirez's mother, lawyers say that his 10-year- old daughter is prepared to testify that she was with her dad that day even though she was supposed to be at school.

we're waiting for some more proof on that. meantime, of course, bryan stow remains in critical condition here at san francisco general hospital. >> obviously it's next saturday. >> how about a cook-in? better way to go as we see more showers around the bay area, folks, today no exception. scattered showers continuing in the bay area. north bay the main focus right now, napa valley getting hit by some moderate to heavier amounts of rainfall continuing on and off throughout the day and sag further south through the day. this weak cold front sliding through bringing scattered showers today and the main core of the low along the coastline for tomorrow. that means more showers with a possibility of some isolated thunderstorms. highs today well below average. mid-60s in the warmest spots. 50s out at the coastline. well, let's see if the rainfall is affecting the traffic out there, gianna. >> it is in some spots. i'll have an accident up in the north bay to report on in just a minute. right now let's update you on the bay bridge toll plaza. metering lights are on and traffic is really starting to stack up here especially in those cash lanes. give yourself some extra time. we are seeing some extra volume across the upper deck into san francisco. still good though heading out of san francisco into oakland. ace train number one was delayed by 10 minutes this morning but ace train number 3

is on time. bart is clear. wreck on 780 in vallejo. back to you. >> thank you. defective breathalyzers potentially put hundreds of drunk driving cases in jeopardy down in santa clara county. but as kcbs radio's matt bigler explains, from san jose, it looks like there won't be as many case dismissed after all. matt, what is the story? >> reporter: we're talking about this alco sensor 5, these new high at the time breathalyzers that san jose and palo alto police used last year. they gave inaccurate readings and the breathalyzers were recalled and 800-plus cases were reviewed. only one of those cases, just one, is having to be tossed out and another 42 others are called into question. so certainly good news for

prosecutors. there was some concern that dozens might have to be tossed out because of that inaccurate evidence. the supervising district attorney says it's still been a time-consuming process for the office. >> it's a huge amount of extra work being caused by this manufacturer deeffect. but it's the right thing to do. we want fair prosecutions and a just result. >> in most of these dui cases, prosecutors will still able to get a conviction because they used the more reliable evidence that the cops do at the police station. it's a more reliable blood alcohol test. that evidence is still being used instead of the breathalyzer but in the 42 cases that are now being described as questionable, those are cases where the driver is simply refusing to take the second test and prosecutors have to rely on other tests and reports. only one case is thrown out as

more storms in california, more showers around the bay area. we have another system that's just moved in. rain in the north bay, showers in the south with the focus of the heavy rainfall into the napa valley, good stretch here with moderates amounts of rainfall. this going to continue on and off throughout the day today and move further to the south so be prepared if you are heading out. bring the umbrella with you, a light jacket. we have more scattered showers in the forecast continuing into the afternoon. we'll see a couple of sunny breaks in between the clouds and wandering shores moving onshore and the temperatures well below average. numbers outside right now. you have 52 degrees in livermore, 55 and very mild in pacifica and 52 degrees and showers in san rafael. more rainfall in northern california continuing into the sacramento valley and the high country. not only rain but snow in the higher peaks. wintry weather in the high country over the next few days. storm door wide open, the trough on the west coast, that's allowing the storms to

drop in out of the gulf of alaska. more showers for today. that low will swing down toward the bay area off the coastline by tomorrow maybe even the possibility of some thunderstorms as we head in toward tomorrow, as well. temperatures still going to stay mild today. plan on mid-60s in many spots in the south bay. out toward the coastline 50s for highs there. mid-60s in many spots in the east bay as well except inside the bay low 60s there. and mostly cloudy skies with some scattered showers. showers continuing on and off in the north bay maybe a third of an inch of rainfall. by the time things are said and done by tomorrow, not done with the rain. more on the way after that. a break on thursday. storms move in on friday and i think that friday storm will be a soaker into the weekend again, gianna? >> there goes the weekend. good job. just kidding. actually some of this rain is causing problems on the roads. areas where lawrence is talking about where we are seeing wet weather we are seeing a few accidents. westbound 780 near vallejo especially at glen cove.

two-car cruncher noninjury possibly blocking the road. there may be debris in lanes. heads up working your way through there. still light in the area as far as traffic goes but again, that accident westbound 780 at glen cove may be blocking the road. altamont pass busy this morning. westbound 580 loaded up, 25 minutes from the altamont pass to 680. when you hit greenville you are going to see some activity there on the off-ramp. main lines are open off-ramp shut down greenville 580 due to wrecks on surface streets causing delays in the area. westbound 4 business as usual, tapping the brake lights through antioch. stop and go conditions through pittsburg. give yourself some extra time through there. bay bridge toll plaza metering lights are on and a big backup almost to the maze. and as you come off into the cash lanes, traffic really getting busy. eastshore freeway also starting to see some delays, as well. now, the peninsula is checking in problem-free. but as you take 101 near bayshore, some extra volume

month. san francisco, bay area, not any different, down over 5% from a year earlier and down a tenth of a percent from a month ago. selling in the market is basically fallen off after the federal home buyer tax credit expired in the spring of last year. there hasn't been much movement and a big chunk of the market that is selling almost a third of it are foreclosed properties. those prices are cheaper and as a result, that's bringing prices further down. a lot of people are still waiting until the job market gets going before they decide to get out there and buy a home. the home market has a long way to go before it recovers to its pre-recession levels. better piece of news out there this morning is thatapple says that steve jobs will present the keynote address at the conference next week. that's important for appear until that it shows that jobs, who has been on indefinite medical leave since january, is still healthy enough to get on stage and deliver a speech like this. a lot of investors want to see that jobs is still taking part in strategic decision-making in

the company. although apple is an incredibly healthy company with talented individuals working there, jobs is still one of the most iconic and visionary ceos out there and has a lot of influence over where a.m. goes in the future. apple's stock is up pretty big on that news this morning. shares are up almost 2%. that's over $6 higher. the market is off to a good start. there is no surprise that home prize are down and there hasn't been any real solid activity in that market. there is word that europe is closer to bailing out greece yet again which would prevent it from defaulting on its debt. that's big for europe. result, the dow is up as well as the nasdaq and s&p. >> thank you, jason brooks with kcbs and cbsmoneywatch.com. the summer driving season is now officially here even though it doesn't feel like it. >> even though it's raining. it's important to get an oil

[ laughter ] >> look at the technology i brought today. not the usual smart phone. >> waiting for a computer. >> i brought a tire. >> there is a lot of technology explained on the sides of our tires and none of us know how to read it. look at the numbers. i want to give you a basic rundown. the big one in all tires and the largest type is this p means passenger, 175 that first number is the width in millimeters then there is a slash and another number that second number is the height of the tire. now most us want those low profile sporty looking tires and the last number that 14 on that one is the size of of the wheel. this is basic stuff. it's what fits your car but the more interesting stuff is this one. folks don't know what this means. >> is that the pressure? >> four digit code -- no, not

one there. this is the way you tell if you have enough tread left. when those bars are flush with the top of the tread, that's when you need to replace your tires. the old lincoln penny thing, it's still accurate, which is surprising but you have a way to do it without any change in your pocket. just look at the wear bars. >> tires have a lot to do with your mileage. >> huge amount. you have to get your pressure right. look at the label on the car. don't look at the tire where it says max pressure something like 50psi. that's maximum. that doesn't relate to your car. look at the label on the car or on the more modern cars you have one of these, this electronic display called tpms, it's been the law since 2007 that cars have this and tell you what pressure you're running and if you're running low. >> apple ceo steve jobs is coming out of his sick bed to do a little something. >> he has been on medical leave. we haven't seen him for a while on indefinite medical leave. he is going to make a keynote on monday at the worldwide developers conference at apple

from a nursing class. she was supposed to head to reno with a friend but never made it. police found her late-model white honda crv near the hospital locked and parked on a residential street. her cell phone was traced to towers in oakland, fremont and union city and le is one of the top students at university add the family says it's not like her to leave without a word. >> she is not a bad person. and she didn't deserve to have this happen to her. i just want her back.
