let's do and let's go towards the dublin interchange. westbound traffic on 580 cruising towards 680 through pleasanton. coming up, we'll check the south bay and the east bay and mass transit in the meantime back to you guys. >> thank you. new this morning, the chp has just cancelled a statewide amber alert for 13-year-old girl from hollister. chp officers found cristina ramirez with her father in san bernardino just before 5 a.m. and they say that she is safe. her father marcelino ramirez is in custody. this all started yesterday when her dad signed her out of school and did not bring her home. but the search is still on for two people who kidnapped and robbed a 73-year-old man in morgan hill. investigators released the sketches of the two suspects. police say the victim was forced into a car at gunpoint in the parking lot of a dollar tree store on thursday. the suspects then drove him to a nearby bank where they forced him to go inside and withdraw money from a teller. they then followed the victim

home and robbed him again. the victim told police he only obeyed their demands because the suspects threatened to kill his wife. in the end, though, no one was hurt but those suspects are still out there and considered armed and dangerous. she worked for the san francisco giants until the team accused her of embezzlement. anne makovec in san francisco where the losses were in the millions, right, anne. >> reporter: that's right. about 1.5 million according to the fbi. this is a big scandal at the giants front office. she is now facing federal felony charges and is out on $500,000 bond. robin o'connor worked in the payroll department for the giants in charge of making changes to other employees' direct deposits but the fbi thinks she has been depositing some of their money into her account since last year. some red flags went up last month when she applied for a home loan according to a federal affidavit. in that loan application, she

attached a letter supposedly from giants human resource department explaining a couple of mysterious extra payments she had received because she, quote, assisted us in accomplishing our goal of winning the 2010 world series. the bank called the giants and she knitted embezzling $600,000. when they went through the records, the fbi said it was more like $1.5 million. the giants released a statement yesterday saying, "we're working with the federal authorities to ensure this matter is thoroughly investigated and that any wrongdoing is prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law." she has two federal charges against her and is expected in court on september 30. she is no longer working for the giants organization, needless to say. >> not surprised. thank you, anne makovec live at the ballpark this morning. a date set for barry bonds

to be sentenced for obstruction of justice, on december 16. bonds was convicted on one count in his federal perjury trial back in i'm he could get up to 10 years, but federal guidelines actually call for 15 to 21 months. and by the way, the judge in the case has sentenced other athletes in similar cases to just home confinement with no jail time. after nearly a year, federal investigators say pg&e is largely at fault for that deadly pipeline explosion in san bruno. the ntsb says a power outage caused a pipeline to surge beyond capacity and explode. investigators blame pg&e for faulty welds and inadequate management and procedures. >> it was compounded over the years by a litany of failures including poor recordkeeping, inadequate inspection programs, an integrity management program without integrity. >> that pipeline was installed in 1956 and it had no automatic

or remote control valves to shut it off during an unexpected surge. the ntsb also points a finger at state and federal regulators say they did not adequately oversee pg&e's operation. pg&e has released a statement following yesterday's report saying, it has made several changes to its gas policy in the last year including we reducing pressure on pipelines. they also expect to conduct pressure tests on 165 miles of line this year. the company is using cameras to inspect interior welds and says it has increased its coordination with first responders and is developing a more comprehensive emergency response plan. a new general manager for bart expected to be named today. the transit agency board has reportedly selected this woman, that's grace crunican. she is a former chief of seattle's department of transportation. bart has been without a full- time gm since april, when the board ousted dorothy dugger stop. 6:04. lawrence called it. it was going to be socked in yesterday afternoon.

he was right. i don't know about today though. >> i think it's going to go kind of early today, isn't it? >> yeah. i think it will break up earlier today. temperatures still running below average for this time of the year, guys. starting out with low clouds and fog. thick in parts of the north bay. clouds early on and then toward the afternoon, sunshine and temperatures cooler than average. 48 degrees the expected high -- 84 degrees the expected high in livermore. 80 and sunny in san jose. patchy fog at the coastline and in the 60s there. but warmer weather is on the way. we'll have more on that in a moment. right now let's check the roads with elizabeth. >> we are going to check the roads in the bay area, north bay southbound 101 nice drive through mill valley to the golden gate bridge. fog not as much of an issue as previous mornings across the span. right now south bay looking good. we have been relatively accident-free so far this morning so off to a nice start.

hopefully it will stay that way for the 6:00 hour. nimitz busy past the coliseum but 15 minutes out of hayward towards the macarthur maze. and mass transit continues to roll along on time for bart, ace, muni and caltrain. more traffic in a bit. back to you guys. >> thank you. hackers who can break into facebook can earn some bucks. >> the social media site actually wants hackers to find security holes in its system. this new campaign may be in response to a threat by the hackers group "anonymous." the group announced that it will take down facebook on november 5. now, the bug bounty actually starts at $500. the company though has paid about $40,000 to hackers who have revealed vulnerabilities. we'll have a live report on this at 6:30.

back now at 6:14. let's look at the top stories on this wednesday. an amber alert ends in southern california this morning. chp cancelled it when they found the 13-year-old girl with her father in san bernardino just before 5:00 this morning. the girl is safe. her father is accused of kidnapping her from hollister. he has been placed under arrest. former san francisco giants payroll manager is facing federal charges now. the team accuse her of embezzling more than $1.5 million over a one-year period. president obama is calling on congress to pass a transportation bill he says will save a million jobs. the current bill runs out in a month. the president will speak in the rose garden this next hour. good morning, folks. if you just getting up and heading out we are looking at a good day as you have some partly cloudy skies over the bay right now. some of the low clouds extending into the valleys with fog at the coast. a good day better than

yesterday. but still, temperatures mainly in the 50s right now. it's slowly pulling back through the middle of the day. sunshine in the afternoon, 80s in the valleys as you get inside the bay some 60s, some 70s further to the south. even some low 80s toward the santa clara valley. sunshine and clouds at the coast. we have a finger of fog at the coastline right now but looks like it's going to fade away. temperatures well below average for this time of the year. sunshine for most by this afternoon. by tomorrow temperatures coming up. here's our futurecast giving you an idea of the fog and low clouds throughout the bay area this morning but by the afternoon that pulls back and, as a matter of fact, clearing things out a bit toward the coastline, as well. looks like a nice day around the bay area today.

temperatures heating up in spots. 91 in sacramento. 89 yosemite. around the bay we'll see plenty of 70s and 80s toward san jose. 66 in san francisco, 84 the expected high in livermore in the north bay temperatures as high as 75 in the napa valley and 79 in santa rosa. over the next few days, high pressure strengthens that offshore wind may blow. temperatures up into the mid- 90s as we head into thursday and friday. slight cooling latter part of the holiday weekend. right now looks very nice just patchy fog at the coast. let's check traffic with elizabeth. this is 101 near alum rock. things slowing down in the northbound lanes and there is an accident reported just before the alum rock exit. it sounds like it's in the center divide but obviously there are some slower speeds heading into santa clara. watch out for extra volume.

couple of new problems coming in along 880. negotiable 880 approaching stevenson boulevard an accident involving a big rig at least they have the right lane blocked off. again that accident just reported so chp heading to the scene. past the coliseum, things are moving well past overstock.com. looking good towards downtown oakland. but this was the accident the nimitz or the macarthur maze that i was mentioning if i can get past this map here. it is -- well, it was westbound 80 to southbound 880. there we go. westbound 80 connector ramp southbound 880 an accident involving a fedex truck and dump truck cleared to the right shoulder so fortunately it is not causing any major delays. bay bridge toll plaza should be turning on the metering lights very shortly likely in the next couple of minutes. so far no big delay and mass transit continues to look great, as well. bart, ace, muni and caltrain

the speed limit has already been lowered near some of the schools in san jose's rose garden area and they have had good results. forget saving up for college daycare. it's now costing most parents about as much as a public university education. that's according to a new study from a national child care organization. it found most parents are paying more than 10% of their annual income on infant child care. add a preschooler to the equation, the cost is nearly as high as a monthly mortgage for most families. >> unbelievable how much people spend. >> if you have two people in the household, why doesn't the mother stay home? crazy. the man behind the flip cam wants to cash in on comfort food. he has a business plan to make grilled cheese sandwiches the next starbucks. jonathan kaplan opened up the melt in san francisco soma district blocks away from

another spot selling grilled cheese. he has visions for expansion. >> lots of coffee shops and then there's starbucks. we think they will be lots of grilled cheese restaurants. our hope is the melt will be the brand that americans know and love. >> kaplan is using a tech savvy system which allows customers to order and pay for sandwiches on their smart phones. his backers include silicon valley's famed sequoia captain as well as a famous restaurateur. britain's royal family has a proverbial help wanted sign hanging on one of its castles. queen elizabeth is looking for a cheap gardener at balmoral in scotland and according to the job posting those duties include maintaining plants in the greenhouses, tending to the flower beds and lawns and growing vegetables. there is no salary mentioned but one of the perks is live-in quarters on the property. an arizona man is recovering from a freak gardening accident. 86-year-old leroy was working

in the yard a month ago when he fell on the handle of his clippers. the handle went into his eye socket. >> it wasishit was excruciating. >> they will be able to correct his double vision but the shears went just under his eyeball. very lucky placement. >> apparently it just pushed the eye to the side and then went into the sinus cavity. so he can see pretty well outside of the double vision. he is lucky to have the eye. there is a 92-year-old man in michigan who says retirement is for the birds. at 92 he continues to show up for his 9 to 5 job at the better business bureau so you better be good. his coworkers recently honored him for his big milestone been there for 35 years. has agreat sense of humor and -- he has a great sense of humor and is constantly asking

>> unfortunately things are busy out there including on the nimitz. 880 we actually have a couple of accidents reported one in fremont, one in the macarthur maze. they also turned the metering lights on at the bay bridge. things are stacking up there. we'll break it all down for and you show you more live cameras. back to you. >> thank you. new this morning, a 13-year- old girl missing from hollister. she has been found safe and sound down in southern california. there was a statewide amber alert issued when her father signed her out of school and didn't bring her home. about 90 minutes ago a drive spotted the car down in san bernardino, alerted the chp. officers found the girl with her father and arrested him. morgan hill police meanwhile are looking for two people who kidnapped and robbed a 73-year-old man in morgan hill. investigators released these sketches. two suspects. police say the victim was forced into a car at gunpoint in a parking lot of a dollar tree store on thursday. suspects drove him to a nearby bank where they forced him to go inside and withdraw money

rock exit. things are getting crowded. it's busy in the northbound lanes towards santa clara. just the usual stuff there and at the bay bridge. this is traffic approaching the pay gates. metering lights are on now so it is stacking up almost to the end of the parking lot almost approaching the west grand overcrossing already looking at up to 10 minutes to get on the bridge. this was the traffic alert just issued now because of this accident in fremont. northbound 880 before stevenson boulevard. big rig accident blocking at least one possibly two lanes. also some damage to the guardrail. that is why they went ahead and issued the traffic alert. that is your traffic. back to you. >> no fighting, you two. the heads of fema and homeland security will tour damage from hurricane irene today and they are going to be in new jersey and new york after touring vermont. the national guard is using helicopters to get food and water to 13 vermont towns that are cut off because of all the flooding in the area. some rivers are still rising. the red cross is urging people in the bay area to

donate blood in the wake of hurricane irene. the organization had to cancel more than 70 flood drives along the east coast because of all the storm damage. the red cross is stressing the need for platelets which have a short shelf life of only five days. bart is expected to name a general manager today. the transit agency board has selected grace crunican the former chief of seattle's department of transportation. bart has been without a full- time gm since april when they fired dorothy dugger. facebook is calling on all hackers to help spot security bugs in their system and wants to pay them for their efforts. stephanie chuang is outside facebook headquarters in palo alto with more. >> reporter: good morning. hey, if people have ever wanted to do something kind of illegal but not only get way with it, get paid to do it, facebook has a good offer. it's willing to pay anyone who can hack into its site so long as they report bugs that they

find in the system. now, it's a three-week-old program called bug bounty. it invites professional security researchers and hackers to find security problems and notify facebook. so far the company has actually shelled out more than $40,000 to about 50 people from 16 countries. you can actually see a list at facebook.com/whitehat. white hat is apparently what these good willed hackers are called in the tech world. in a blog, the chief security officer of facebook said the company paid someone 5 grand for just one, quote, really good report. someone else informed facebook of about six issues and got paid $7,000. so a good deal there. the minimum payment is $500. the company also says it will not seek legal action against these hackers so long as it's good will and they report these problems. the reason of course for facebook doing this is the fact that they have got these security issues. they have millions of users worldwide and in fact we have

learned of a "anonymous" hacking group behind the bart protests has threatened to hack into facebook on november 5 over privacy concerns. so frank, you can see why facebook is taking all these different measures to keep the system safe. >> so if you want to dive in, do you like sign up on their website and start hacking away? >> reporter: no you know, they have security website in part of the facebook website so you can contact those people. but yeah, they have all the instructions there just go to facebook security once you sign in and they should have all instructions for you. >> not quite sure i'm going to hack in, but if you are interested and want to make a couple of bucks, what the heck. all right, steph, live in palo alto, thank you. >> could be a few extra bucks for you, frank. >> i'm not holding my breath. apple, watch out. the retailer giving the tech giant a run for its money coming up this holiday weekend. >> and careful with that cup, the stanley cup damaged after

good morning. we have patchy fog around the bay area this morning. looking good from the mount vaca. sun coming up. looks like more sunshine toward the afternoon. still have to get through early clouds. a little thick in spots. temperatures running in the 50s all around the bay area right now. by the afternoon, though, sunshine cranking the numbers up into the 80s. cooler than normal but not bad in the valleys. inside the bay mostly sunny skies numbers into the 60s, some 70s further to the south even some low 80s toward the santa clara valley. and at the coast alone you will find a mix of sun and clouds and temperatures into the 60s. that finger of fog continuing at the coastline this morning. some of that pressing onshore. but it looks like that is going to start to break up. still a trough of low pressure continues along the west coast pumping in cooler than average temperatures here in the bay area. but by the afternoon, really sunshine for most. and then high pressure going to start to build in and it looks like for the next couple of days, we are going to start to

block. you can see some traffic backed up behind it. sounds like there was damage to the guardrail so that's why they issued the traffic alert and why it's taking longer to clear. tow crews should be out there. brake lights out of the altamont pass. 24 minutes westbound 580 between there and 680 and the dublin interchange. an accident just reported as well westbound 580 right there before the vasco road. out tow bay bridge busy morning at the bay bridge. this is our back-to-school commute stacking up beyond the west grand overcrossing. the metering lights are on. so it's sluggish from the incline towards the "s" curve. golden gate bridge this is not looking too bad. if you are commuting through petaluma in the north bay, there is an accident reported southbound 101 right before petaluma boulevard north. so we have actually just taken a couple of calls from the kcbs phone force, 15- to 20-minute delay across the stretch of southbound 101.

help out the economy. first one regards to private firms coming from adp says 91,000 new jobs created in august. that's about 9,000 under expectations a little less than what we saw in july. services sector gaining most of those jobs with 80,000, manufacturing coming in at 11,000. it was some job creation though so a little bit of good news not nearly enough. the other report coming from challenger gray and christmas focusing on firing, layoffs and the number came in just over 51,000. that was about 15,000 better than in july and it came after three straight monthly increases. about 18,000 of those cuts coming from the public sector the biggest number of cuts by state, local and federal governments, the second biggest number this year. on friday we'll get the august employment report, with the unemployment rate at 9.1%. oracle reportedly under investigation from the fbi and

the justice department for potentially violating federal antibribery laws in regards to dealings in several western and central african countries. they are investigating whether or not employees or agents for oracle may have violated those laws when trying to secure deals on database and application software deals. oracle is not commenting stock market off to a decent start this morning. right now the dow is up 89. nasdaq up 20. s&p up higher by 11. oracle shares by the way up a little more than 1%. >> so jason, what was the highest the dow was three or four weeks in the mid 12s or -- >> yeah. it was about a little over 12 at that time. so we are still under that point. it was a really rough four weeks but we are now actually positive for the year. so despite that horrible month that we have had, we are positive for the year. we have had a good run over the past few days. >> that's incredible. we're inching back.

>> getting back. >> hard to tell with the wild swings. thank you, jason brooks with kcbs and cbsmoneywatch.com. it is the latest push to boost the economy. this morning, president obama will push for more money for transportation projects. the president will urge congress to pass a federal highway bill he says will save a million jobs. the current spending bill runs out at the end of september. the house and senate have different versions of the new bill. hewlett-packard is giving its touchpad tablet computer one more run after all. hp said this month that it was getting out of the tablet and smart phone business in order to focus more on selling to corporations. the company dropped tablet prices and said there was a stunning demand for them. so hp is going to produce another run of touchpads to meet the demand. you can't find them now. apple's biggest competition this upcoming holiday season may be amazon.com. industry analysts say amazon will sell three to five million tablet computers between october and december. they say if amazon prices that

ended up busting herself according to fbi affidavits. here's her picture. robin o'connor worked in the payroll department for the giants in charge of making changes to other employee direct deposits so the fbi thinks she was depositing some of the money into her account since last year even some of the players' money. red flags went up last month when she applied for a home loan. according to that federal affidavit in that loan application, she attached a letter that was supposedly from giants hr explaining a couple of mysterious extra payments she had received because she, quote, assisted us in accomplishing our goal of winning the 2010 world series. the bank called the giants who confronted o'connor and they say she admitted embezzling $600,000. when they when back through the record, though, the fbi says it was more than like $1.5 million. she is charged with wire fraud and fraud with a computer. they say she bought fancy cars including a bmw, also a new home with some of this money. and now she is due back in
